Browns Making MAJOR CHANGES To Starting Lineup Before 2024 Season? Cleveland Browns Rumors & News

[Music] [Music] coming up on today's show I want to predict the Browns week one starters all the way from quarterback to strong safety with injuries not turned off because I think it's very important because ultimately that's what's going to be the reality when week one against the Cowboys rolls around now before we look at my 22 projections for the offense and defense we have gone 10 straight videos without reaching 300 likes and this was the call to duty my boss laid out for me today in our morning meeting so help me end that streak right now hit the Thumbs Up Button if you have not already now my week one starting quarterback prediction DeShaun Watson obviously no hot take here but I fully expect and fully believe and fully anticipate that DeShaun Watson shoulder will be healthy enough and he'll be ready to roll week one against the Cowboys at home now running back is a little bit of a different ation because Nick chub's return for week one is not nearly as much as a guarantee as DeShaun Watson's is in my eyes and in fact I don't think we will see Nick chub at least not in a starting capacity although if he is back I don't see a way he'd come back and not start but still I don't think chub will be ready to return as soon as week one which means I think Jerome Ford will be the starting running back week one you could go with Deontay foran I think theem Hines is going to be more for special teams than Act being a bcow three down running back or even having a large role in a committee until chub comes back now I'm personally going to roll with Ford over Deontay foran because I just feel like this coaching staff is much more familiar with Ford and Deontay Forman two years ago had a nice year with the Carolina Panthers last year in Chicago he was in and out of the lineup injuries healthy scratches strong games here Bad Games there ultimately I feel like for who ended the year as the starting running back pretty much last season will get that opportunity to open up 2024 and hopefully it's not for too long and Nick chub returns sooner rather than later but I'm going to go with Jerome Ford as the week one starting running back first guy to take a hand off now pick a running back for me though until Nick chub comes back Deontay foran or Jerome Ford Ford last year had some really good highlights like the Colts touchdown and the uh big run he had against the Steelers after Nick chub went down but there were also a lot of moments of frustration and lack of vision where wasn't too hard for the fans to see the big hole in the offensive line but somehow Ford missed it so hopefully in year three Jerome Ford shows some more Improvement has a nice strong start to the year and then Nick chub comes back and wins NFL comeback player of the year but if Ford can't get the job done I am confident that Deontay foran in a committee type role can provide some good touches as for your week one starting wide receivers I'll go with Amari Cooper Jerry Judy and Elijah Moore very chalk here as well as it should be you don't have to have a hot take in everything and everywhere in sports and to me this one is just a no-brainer right Cooper Judy Moore all of them come off of really strong years like Elijah Moore having a career year high and uh receptions and yards Jerry Judy 758 yards in a very funky Broncos offense that just never got the passing game going with Russell Wilson and then Amari Cooper is having the best portion of his career right now the last two seasons in Cleveland putting up a lot of career bests like nearly what 12250 yards last year one of the best seasons in Amari Cooper's career as for the week one starting tight end David and joku again the talk continues but we're going to get some unexpected names potentially in just a moment depending on how you view the defense offensive line now Jed Wills I believe will be returning for week one as he comes back from that knee injury he sustained in the Cardinals game in November Joel ponio Ethan posk Wyatt teller at the at the interior offensive line and then I've got Dean Jones starting at right tackle I'm not confident that Jack Conlin will be back week one remember two years ago when Conlin injured his knee in the Ravens game in Baltimore he did not come back in time for week one against Baker Mayfield and the Panthers James Hudson started at right tackle I think we could see Dean Jones beat Jack Concklin back in that rehab race and open up the season as the starter now what I don't know and I really don't want to have to answer this question because it's a very difficult one to answer is if Jack Conlin is healthy and cleared come week three or week four and dwan Jones is playing really good football they hold Dean Jones and insert Jack Conlin back into the lineup hard to do that dwan Jones is playing well but I think this coaching staff is very happy to have a good problem on their hands which is we've got too many good tackles last year they would have loved to have had that problem when all the injuries started picking up this year they're not going to start shipping guys off before uh the season gets underway if they end up needing some extra depth later on in the year so for now I'll say Dean Jones comes back from his rehab earlier than Jack Conlin and the seconde man from Ohio State will start week one against the Cowboys as for the defensive line miles Garrett Dalvin Tomlinson Shelby Harris and zarus Smith so very very similar to last year with the substitution of Shelby Harris for Jordan ellot I really like this defensive line right last season they showed a lot of really good pressure from interior and of course by Miles Garrett and sarius Smith those two guys were some of the best uh Edge rushers when creating pressure for quarterbacks but of course dvin Tomlinson is going to be a really Stout run Defender he's going to plug up some holes and gaps in the middle of the offensive line and D line and then Shelby Harris has some good pass rushing upside to his game while also being an adequate run stopper but the defensive line of the Interior is going to be a strong rotation you'll see Maurice Hurst maybe even a little bit of the rookie Mike Hall and then Quinton Jefferson who they signed from the Jets I think he'll come in on Third and long or obvious passing situations now speaking of this Browns defensive line let me toss this question on screen for you all will the Browns have two 10 plus sack players can miles Garrett and say he it Darius Smith maybe you think it's okaro I know he's told the media a few weeks ago he thinks he can be a double digit sack kind of player this year will they have two 10 plus sack players in 2024 give me a yes or give me a not your linebackers now you got Jeremiah U coroa Jordan Hicks and Devin Bush now don't expect to see a ton of three linebacker sets from the Browns you'll likely see that when they get maybe towards the goal line and they're anticipating a run more or on Third and two those types of obvious run situations but when teams line up first and 10 at their own 25 I expect to see a lot of nickel defense out of Jim Schwarz this year like we saw last year and that will Pro uh predominantly mean just J and Jordan Hicks on the screen now we all know how special J is Jordan Hicks is the new face of this defense he's replacing Anthony Walker the new Green Dot the signal caller in the middle of the defense and all I need for Mr Jordan Hicks is to be a good run stopper this defense has plenty of pass rushers right this defense has plenty of great DBS what I need Hicks to be is a guy that can run into the Gap bring down a running back on third and four and not let the chains extend and keep the D moving Jordan Hicks I know you're listening we just need you to be one hell of a run stopper and this Browns defense is going to be again one of the best in the National Football League now a sleeper candidate I'll toss out there to maybe be a week one starter Nathaniel Watson the sixth round pick out of Mississippi State I mean in the first uh open OTA session to the media the guy had a pick six on Tyler Huntley in the red zone now it's seven on sevens it's far from real real football but if you want to have a little bit of a fiery take of you want a surprise guy that could start week one maybe Nathaniel Watson over Devin Bush if the five sixe player for Mississippi State who has tons of experience just picks up where he left off for the Bulldogs last year with the Browns this year he your starting Corners no surprise here Denzel Ward Mar Emerson and Greg Nome are going to be your three starting quarterbacks to open up this season super excited for this tandem to this T this Trio to run it back all three players last year I felt like had really strong Seasons Emerson Leading The Way with four interceptions Nome with two picks 14 pass breakups plus he had that big pick six against the Ravens and we all know what the warden is capable of as does Joe burrow and the Bengals but I think this will be a top three corner back unit I know hot take coming through here now we did not see that in the Texans playoff game there's no doubt about it there's no excuse making they just flat out failed they did not execute but I feel like this team when this unit right here has too much talent to be defined by one playoff game I think they're going to learn from that playoff game and they're going to come back this year and all these players all three of those guys are locked up for the next two seasons and they're going to form once again one of the best quarterback rooms in the NFL I'm stoked to see what they're capable of achieving this season as for your week one starting safeties Grant delpit and Juan Thornhill last year it should have been Juan Thornhill but remember he dealt with a calf injury uh that he kind of had nagging him during the preseason popped up in the Chiefs game I believe it was but regardless uh these are your two starting safeties for the first week of the season now I want to share the entire safety room with you because you could see Jim Schwarz use a ton of Rodney McLoud I'll actually change that you will see Jim Schwarz use a ton of Rodney McCloud in week one and so that's where we go back to our conversation earlier about just having two linebackers an extra DB on the field and that extra DB is going to be Rodney McLoud over a cam Mitchell or a really young inexperienced corner but I'm very pumped for delpit and Juan Thornhill to I wouldn't say be like reunited because they played together last season but but they didn't overlap enough last year delpit missing the last four or five weeks of the Season Juan Thornhill missing time periodically throughout the year hopefully both these guys got healthy over the off seon they enter the 2024 season with a clean F of health and we can see both safety start all 17 games cuz if that's the case this is going to be a really intimidating and fearsome safety tandem now to give you guys some fun stats and numbers to wrap up the show what I did was I looked back at the returning week one starters from year to year so from 2019 to 2020 week one the Browns return 12 total starters in Andrew Barry's first season six on offense six on defense by the way I came up with these numbers um if a player got injured but would have started but because of a preseason injury they didn't I include them as a returning starter because I feel like for example Jack Conlin was a returning starter okay uh 2021 greedy Williams another one like St for example uh 2021 14 returning starters predominantly all on the offense when that was the year all 11 starters came back 2022 now we start to see a bit of a shakeup uh we get our first jacobe brassett season our sweet uh our sweet prince 2023 18 starters return nine on offense nine on defense in this year I am projecting 19 total starters returning the Browns saying goodbye to guys like Anthony Walker and cion Taki Aki and Donovan peoples Jones so how would you rate the Browns roster on a scale of 1 to 100 what would you give them for me I would give the Browns an 88 what's holding them back from being a 90 and by the way an 88 is not bad by any stretch of the imagination in the NFL but for me I think the thing that's holding them back is we're hoping the linebackers are adequate cuz they don't really need to have a huge role on this defense to have a successful defense but if J gets back to the injury side of things and we see Jordan Hicks and dein Bush not live up to the bargain like that's going to be disappointing um other things that to me have a a little bit of hesitation to giving it a full 90 like until Nick chub comes back can we really believe Jerome Ford and Deontay Foreman can be even a top half running back tandem at times last year for a good chunk of like weeks 8 through 15 or 16 give or take they looked like a that brown Brown's running back room looked bottom five bottom 10 in the NFL so hopefully they can at least just put themselves right in the middle of the Fairway all right to
