little bit and remember we are talking about the third string quarterback as people go at each other's throats online over whether or not the brown should trade Dorian Thompson Robinson so we're going fourth tackle with Dean Jones being the third out with an ankle injury all under three weeks away from NFL week one against Micah Parson and the Dallas Cowboys you just can't do it you cannot do it are open to trading one of their quarterbacks which by the way the only two options are Dorian Thompson Robinson and Tyler Huntley you're not trading away jamus Winston you really want a good stable quarterback behind Deshawn Watson who has not played a full season yet as a Cleveland Brown so that leaves DTR and Huntley you can get more for DTR because he has three years left on his rookie contract so that's longer control for a very affordable price for a team whereas Huntley he's on a one-year deal you don't have that additional year or two on his contract to hold on to so I think DTR would be the one that gets traded between the two and what could you get in return Josh dos got you a fifth round pick last year I feel like dobs was at a better place than where either DTR or Huntley is at right now so I would say you're probably looking at a day three pick swap like they get DTR and seventh and the Browns get a sixth maybe you can orchestrate a player-for-player swap but you got to be talking to the right team because you can only deal with teams that have an extra tackle they're willing to trade and it's one the Browns would like to bring in so I hope that answers your Today's Show whenever you are okay let's get this plan off the ground let's talk about a big move potentially on the move that does make [Music] [Music] sense is a big move coming for the Cleveland Browns we should be conditioned at this point to know that with Andrew at the wheel if there is a hole on this roster he is not going to sit back and hope it gets fixed he's going to be proactive about it he's going to be aggressive and with the Browns currently down two of their top three offensive tackles Jed wills and Jack Concklin still on the pup list James Hudson out with this uh out this week with an ankle injury the Browns are left with three off offensive tackles for preseason week three Dean Jones Germaine a Fetti and Lorenzo Thompson which the reports out of training camp have been that jera Fetti is running with the first team offense at left tackle that's fine to get you through a preseason game but we're now at that stage though where with the regular season being two and a half weeks is away and no sign of dread Wills or Jack Conlin like not even coming to well they can't practice on the pup list but still it doesn't feel like are getting any sort of really good positive updates on them being close to return we could get by with this at the start of August and not lose sleep over it I think we're at the stage now where we should start having a serious conversation about going out and finding a new left tackle at least to get you through the beginning of the season now Andrew Barry if we should know anything by now is not a patient GM think about this time last year what were we all talking about Browns have kicker issue K York has missed a bunch of kicks in the preseason what are they going to do what did Andrew Barry do he did not hope and pray and cross his fingers that Kade York would figure it out no he made a trade for Dustin Hopkins every single time the Browns have been at a spot where they feel like they can improve but they could just wait and hope that their guy comes through nine times out of 10 they go out and make a move and I feel like this is going to be one of those times so when you look at the free agent offensive tackles for the Browns to consider David bakari is by far the most notable name five time allpro left tackle for Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay however he has missed a ton of time recently with a consistent knee injury that he got surgery on in late 2023 and if he's 100% now would be worth exploring DJ Humphries for the Cardinals last year he ultimately got moved on from because of age and them ready to put Paris Johnson at that left tackle position Charles Leno he's been a consistent starter in the league for nearly a decade at this point Duan Brown is up there in the age column but he's been a plug-and-play guy for a lot of teams the last few years Donovan Smith was Tom Brady and the Buccaneers left tackle for a long stretch cam Fleming has been that like James Hudson Chris hubber like six-man first swing tackle Off the Bench for a handful of organizations he could be worth looking at as well David baktiar though to take a closer look at would have to be the most notable name of the bunch five time all proo three-time pro bowler however in the last three years twice he has played just one game and the other season he only played 11 games he's had consistent knee issues and ultimately he gets surgery and it's one step forward two steps back however the last time he got surgery he and the medical team were conf confident this would be the end of the surgeries and this would be the one that fixed it all so I feel like it's worth exploring to see if he truly is healthy and if so would he want to come play for the Browns in a pinch until Jed Wills Andor Jack Conlin is healthy Donovan Smith is another name to keep an eye on he was the buccaneer starting left tackle from 2015 to 2022 then he goes over to the Chiefs in 20123 he starts 12 games for them at left tackle he was a solid tackle I don't think he was as good as his days in Tampa but he started every single playoff game did not miss a single snap helped them Hoist the Lombardi so with two super Super Bowl rings he definitely knows a thing or two about playing deep into the postseason so he could be worth looking at as well PFF ranked him 61 out of 81 qualifying tackles which is not a super impressive feat however I will say that was better than Jed Wills but at the end of the day you got to bring in a plug-and-play tackle there are a lot of nuances to football but offensive tackle not to make it too like degrading or simplifying is maybe one of the easier positions not saying it's easy but maybe easier than others to bring a guy in and just insert him into the lineup right if you're coming up with a list of positions you can do that at like quarterback's the most difficult wide receiver and linebacker not far behind because linebacker is kind of the quarterback of the defense defensive tackle might be the easiest is cuz it's a little bit of like see ball go get ball like go kill the quarterback but offensive tackle is probably not too far behind so if you can got find an offensive tackle that can just hold down the fort if Jed wills and Jack Conklin stay on the pup list put him there for four weeks and that's probably going to be a much better outcome than James Hudson at left tackle so should the Browns sign a tackle let me know what you think in the comment section below I feel like they absolutely should if they continue to get any good news from Jed minimum your team's first four games so if Concklin and wills remain on the pup list after a roster cutdown day the Browns are going to be without their services no matter how healthy they get overnight for at least four weeks which is why the Browns at that point if it does get that serious might decide hey we're not looking to sign a guy just to get us to the first week or two of the Season we're looking to trade for a guy that we think is better than the free agents that could help us out for a minimum of 4 weeks but there's no guarantee after those four weeks that Wills or Concklin will be ready to roll as early as week five so if that's the route the Browns want to go down in terms of finding a more long-term solution at left tackle here are some trade targets that I cooked up Blake Freeland former day three or day two pick a few years ago by the Colts has not really stuck in Indie he's been a backup for them lately so maybe the Colts are ready to kind of Go a different way and the Browns can be a fresh start for him gion Christian or G garan Christian excuse me is a familiar name he was traded from the Browns to the Titans earlier this off season remember he started a lot of games at left tackle at the end of 2023 so if the Browns want to bring back a familiar face that is an option Larry borm for the Chicago Bears he's kind of their James Hudson equivalent in terms of his role as a swing tackle um and maybe the Bears are ready to kind of cut ties with him and the Browns feel like he an upgrade over their swing tackle Chris hubard will'll look at in a moment in a closer second in closer detail Max Mitchell the Jets drafted Olu fashanu and they signed Tyron Smith which is kind of boxing out him and maybe the Browns are looking at his tape and thinking man this is a guy that can really step in and help us out for a few weeks Chris hubber though I think might be the best option of the five of course he played for the Browns from 2018 to 2022 he made 35 starts in that stret last year he joined the Titans early in the season when I think it was Nicholas petite Fier got suspended due to gambling he started the first nine games for them played pretty well I'd say then he goes and signs to the 49ers in May and not that the 49ers don't need his help especially with Trent Williams kind of in a hold out at the moment but if they decide hey we're going to get Williams back we're confident in the rest of our tackles and we wouldn't hate getting an extra draft pick or two maybe that's something the brown round to explore so if you look at Chris hub's PFF grades from last season we'll put them on screen for you here in just a second Chris hubard ranking 36 out of 81 uh 68.2 overall grade 67.8 pass blocking grade and a 62.7 run blocking grade again a familiar face that we've seen the Browns run it back with guys before who thought Kade York would ever come back to Cleveland I didn't so I wouldn't be surprised if the Browns go hey we know what we have in hubard we don't have to catch him up to speed too much especially kind of a a short time frame he can pick up the Playbook and probably get up to speed on it way quicker than everyone else could so hubard could be a name to watch for if the 49ers are open to a trade with their somewhat recently signed backup offensive tackle but the Browns ultimately I mean if they don't already internally they need to figure out a Jed Wheels timeline as soon as possible with how slow the new updates have been and the typical Kevin stefansky vanilla response that really tells you absolutely nothing I'm starting to get concerned that something has not gone well in Jed wills's rehab I don't know if there was some sort of speed bump or a setback God forbid a second surgery had to take place but things I don't think are going to plan for Jed Wheels like we would have thought 3 four five months ago and if they don't get an accurate timeline soon they cannot just hope that James Hudson's going to step into a large role and come through in the clutch we saw a lot of them last year it really wasn't good football like that's just a honest and not even biased take there I think a lot of people would agree Hudson was not showing to be the guy that could be a starting left tackle for a team so Andrew Barry you've done it before we need you to do it again get the Flex Seal out and Andrew Barry every single time the Browns have an issue Andrew Barry throws money or draft picks at it there are so many GMS like the Dallas Cowboys that just go no we like our guys we're going to hope they come through Andrew Barry thinks in the exact opposite way there's a problem we're going to fix it there is a problem right now with the offensive line and I expect him to make a ahead and do so on today's video we're going to talk about the recent trade rumors coming out regarding Dorian Thompson Robinson as the Browns might be open to trading one of their four quarterbacks so our story really begins with Zack Jackson from the athletic putting out this report the Cleveland Browns have discussed a potential trade of second-year quarterback Dorian Thompson Robinson with multiple teams two League sources with knowledge of the discussions told the athletic the first thing that popped to my head when I read that was trade DTR for an offensive tackle now it might not shape up that easily like the teams that are calling about DTR do they have a good tackle worth trading for do they have a tackle they're worth giving or they're willing to give up but when I saw that I thought day three pick swap offensive tackle like this could be a simple hey there are two two teams that have a surplus at one position and have a need at another position and they could help each other out team like that could be without knowing much about their offensive tackles the Minnesota Vikings I mean we saw last year they were willing to trade for a quarterback when Kirk Cousins went down JJ McCarthy goes down and they watch DTR in the joint practices and in the preseason game Vikings could be an option but do they have a tackle they're willing to give up and the Browns would like to trade for because the Browns need some help on the offensive line we all know it by now Jed Wills Jack Conlin still on the pup list and there's really no clear idea or picture as to when they could be getting off the pup list and if they are on the pup list to open up the 2024 season they will miss a mandatory four games to begin the season so Jed wills and Jack Conlin on the pup list has me concerned with week one against the Cowboys being a little over two weeks away the Browns should start to have a little bit of fire beneath them trying to figure out an option at left tackle because James Hudson last year didn't really give us much inspiring football and he's dealing with an ankle injury right now and that's someone who if he is going to start at left tackle week one needs every single possible rep right now to get ready for Micah Parsons and the Cowboys but going back to the possibility of trading DTR so far in the preseason he's 27 for 35 263 yards and one interception after a 2023 season where he appeared in a handful of games made some starts my two cents on DTR last year I thought he improved every single game that he started in from the Ravens game to the Broncos game so I don't look at those stats as DTR stunk last year I look at those stats as DTR was kind of just tossed in the fire in his first NFL start against the Ravens which is probably the worst team to be having like your first NFL start come against when you're not prepared for it at all and after that I saw improve made by DTR but he was still a fifth round rookie quarterback and it showed in a lot of ways but I thought he had a pretty nice training camp and preseason going into the final game like coming off a hip injury he was making some nice plays and having some nice throws preseason week 2 the answer is you're going to get a better return for DTR he's got this year and then two more years left on his rookie contract whereas Huntley is on a one-year vet minimum deal so if a team trades for Huntley it's a rental for 2024 with DTR they've got him on a cheap rookie contract for two additional Seasons so if they like what they see out of him this year they don't have to give him a contract in free agency whereas with Huntley You' either be walking or getting another deal so I think you get a better return for DTR which is why teams would be more interested in him even if they are DTR and Huntley really close in evaluations I think teams are going to be more LED and Drawn to Dorian Thompson Robinson now what could you get for him lower whatever you're thinking fifth probably a six Josh doobs got traded for a fifth round pick last year I would say last year Josh dobs had more value than Dorian Thompson Robinson does right now like dobs looked really good in the preseason dtrs looked solid especially in the first preseason game but I would say Josh jobs a preseason prince who by the way continues his magic even with the 49ers if he got a fifth you're probably looking at a day three pick swap with DTR like you send away DTR in a seventh and you get a sixth round draft pick back now Tyler Huntley is another possible trade candidate for the Browns uh in his career he's made nine starts for the Baltimore Ravens nearly 20 thou uh 20 2,000 passing yards eight touchdowns seven interceptions he even started a playoff game and you know was pretty close up until that 99 yard touchdown by the Bengals in the fourth quarter but I think the plan for the Browns might be let's get an offensive tackle for DTR or A fifth or sixth round draft pick and sneak Tyler Huntley on our practice squad right we can release Huntley likely goes unclaimed put him on the Browns practice squad whereas if you release DTR remember when you wave a player if a team claims them they pick up their contract and a team might put a claim in for a guy who's got two years left on his rookie contract for a very cheap amount so I don't think you're getting DTR through the waiver wire but you're probably going to get Tyler Huntley and you put him on your practice squad and now you've got an additional roster spot that doesn't have to be used at the quarterback room although I'm not opposed to the Browns putting three quarterback on their 53 man roster they learned last year how valuable that position is but at the end of the day if you take one thing away from this video let it be this we are talking about qb3 every single year it's Groundhog Day Groundhog Day for all NFL fans Not unique to Browns fans where we read way too much and make too big of a deal out of backups and then the regular season gets here and we're like wow I can't believe that we wasted so much energy our arguing with one another over trading Huntley or DTR when in reality 99% chance it won't matter cuz neither guy will see the field I know last year was a little bit of an anomaly but I'm not going to bank on the Browns starting five quarterbacks in consecutive season so
