LIGHT ON A RANGE OF RESTAURANTS. RIGHT NOW, AT 4:00, CREWS ARE FIGHTING TO GET CONTROL OF A WILDFIRE IN SIERRA COUNTY. YOU CAN SEE THE INTENSITY OF THESE FLAMES AS THEY CONTINUE TO SPREAD. THAT FIRE IS THREATENING HUNDREDS OF HOMES AND FORCING PEOPLE TO EVACUATE. THANKS FOR BEING WITH US AT 4:00. I'M TY STEELE. I'M LISA GONZALEZ. THAT FIRE SPREAD PRETTY QUICKLY. YESTERDAY IN JUST A MATTER OF HOURS. SO FAR TODAY, THE GROWTH HAS SLOWED DOWN, WHICH, OF COURSE, IS GREAT NEWS. THIS IS CALLED THE BEAR FIRE. IT STARTED YESTERDAY IN THE EASTERN TAHOE NATIONAL FOREST NEAR SIERRA BROOKS. AND THESE ARE THE LATEST NUMBERS FROM CAL FIRE. JUST WITHIN THE PAST HOUR, THEY'VE REPORTED THAT THE FIRE HAS BURNED ALMOST 1600 ACRES. THAT'S LESS THAN 200 MORE ACRES THAN WHERE IT STOOD AT 9 A.M. CONTAINMENT IS STILL AT 0%, ALMOST 300 BUILDINGS ARE THREATENED. MORE THAN 500 PEOPLE ARE UNDER MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDERS. BECAUSE OF THIS FIRE. THIS IS A LOOK AT THE EVACUATION MAP. ORDERS ARE IN RED. THEY INCLUDE THE SIERRA BROOKS AREA AROUND ANTELOPE VALLEY ROAD AND SMITH NECK ROAD, AND PEOPLE IN THOSE ZONES SHOULD LEAVE IMMEDIATELY. EVACUATION WARNINGS ARE IN YELLOW. PEOPLE THERE SHOULD BE READY TO LEAVE AT A MOMENT'S NOTICE. LET'S GET RIGHT OUT TO LIVECOPTER3 RIGHT NOW, SHOWING US THIS EXCLUSIVE VIEW FROM ABOVE. THE FIRE, AND YOU CAN SEE A HUGE PLUME OF SMOKE. RIGHT NOW IT'S PRETTY WHITE SMOKE, AND YOU CAN SEE IT SHOOTING STRAIGHT UP INTO THE SKY RIGHT NOW. METEOROLOGIST HEATHER WALDMAN TRACKING THE CONDITIONS FOR US, HEATHER. YEAH, AND THAT'S THAT PYROCUMULUS CLOUD THAT YOU SEE THAT LITTLE WHITE CAP ON THE TOP CERTAINLY LOOKS A LOT DIFFERENT COMPARED TO WHAT WE WERE SEEING ON THE CAMERAS YESTERDAY. THE PLUME OF SMOKE A LOT MORE VERTICAL TELLS ME A COUPLE OF THINGS. NUMBER ONE, THE FIRE IS BURNING PRETTY HOT THIS AFTERNOON. BUT NUMBER TWO, THE WIND IS NOT AS MUCH OF A FACTOR. THAT PLUME IS NOT GETTING PUSHED OVER. WE CAN SEE THAT SMOKE PLUME HERE FROM THE SATELLITE PICTURE. YOU CAN SEE IT BUILDING UP INTO THE AFTERNOON. AS WE WOULD EXPECT. HOTTEST PART OF THE DAY. IT'S WHEN THE FIRE HAS SORT OF THE BEST WEATHER CONDITIONS THAT IT CAN WORK WITH. BUT AS FAR AS THE FIRE CREWS GO, THE WEATHER CONDITIONS CERTAINLY A LOT BETTER COMPARED TO YESTERDAY. BUT I WANT TO SHOW YOU THE TERRAIN HERE REALLY QUICKLY. THIS IS THE COMMUNITY OF LOYALTON, THE COMMUNITY OF SIERRA BROOKS, KIND OF TUCKED INTO ONE OF THESE VALLEYS HERE. FIRE STARTED IN SOME OF THESE PRETTY STEEP RIDGES AND OF COURSE, WHEN YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT RIDGES, YOU GET THOSE CANYON WINDS THAT KIND OF WORK THROUGHOUT THE DAY AS WELL. AGAIN, THERE'S A CLOSER VIEW OF WHERE THE SIERRA BROOKS COMMUNITY IS. THAT IS WHERE WE HAVE THOSE EVACUATION ORDERS. I WANT TO SHOW YOU THE WINDS, KIND OF THE DAILY EBB AND FLOW OF THINGS.
