absolute start norn Illinois part in notame stadium and knocking off the number five team in the country we talked to the coach we talked to the players that were confident coming in can't be more impressed with how to handle the ups and downs of this ball game with Sora for Coach har coach I can sense that you need a moment top five opponent this is the niu's first win against a top 10 opponent ever and for people who need context you wore this jersey it's deep for you why you I'm so proud of our kids the coaches just everybody they believe they believe and we can't here get you told your guys this week that you didn't need anyone to be a superhero or super human they just needed to be their best what kind of performances did you see out there they they listen to what I said I told them all week we don't need luck we just got to be our best and it was they bre today and and we will never get it done where's this emotion coming from for you you know all these guys that bu our bu through the ups and downs and and they continue to fight you know it's like it's like they're my kids I'm happy for the mer to push through you know matter situation I just be out I'm S no need to be sorry Boneyard wins is what you call it when you all beat a top five opponent a power five opponent there was 70,000 people in here that probably didn't believe why did you all believe we got a team a bunch of guys that uh have been through a lot of different things and together we still are at college football I know it's a whole bunch of other things with the ter p n we still have a family and and they believe in that family and doing things the right way and I could be more proud of him congrats coach let celebrate thank you this team in the pre-season was picked third in the mac and we mentioned how it's been a little bit of an up and down tenure lately the last two years for Thomas hammock 3 and9 and 76 the last two years but you can see the emotion on his face he believed in his team and in the end the guys who really mared believed in in this upset Jason Garrett this was a team when you're talking about number Dame that was poised and you know you tend to get ahead of yourselves a little bit in sports the big win at Texas A&M last week and everybody was looking at the schedule for Notre Dame and kind of Paving the way college football playoff 12 teams well this was a big big time punching the G absolutely it was but that right there is why you coach football the relationships that he has with those kids and what a great day for for Northern Illinois but a gut punch for the Fighting Irish and you said it everybody in the country was talking about their path to the playoffs after the big win down in College Station last week and and Marcus Freeman was on top of it Al gold was on top of it Mike Den Brock was on top of it they practiced hard they talked about human nature what they need to do but you have to go do it and they didn't do it they didn't do it as a coaching staff they didn't do it as a team in any phase of their team they are better than Northern Illinois they should win this game if they want to have the year that they want to have and a disappointing game for them they're going to have to learn from it move on and see what they can do with this season but it's happening too much to Notre Dame lately and this was a hard one to swallow you mention happening too much shades of what happened a couple years ago in Marcus Freeman's opener they made they played went on the road played a good game against Ohio State but came a little short came back and it looked like he was just going to grab that win and you know he was so well aware of that he put the team this week and we were with the team and they knew how you can't take a team like Georgia Illinois lightly they didn't but that's off to this husky team I just go back to the start of the game goes right down the field to go up Seven nothing nor illo first opportunity is on the minus two yd line you think they're just get Dominate and blow them out of the stadium they convert a third down they make a big play in the passing game and the whole thing swung from there so Northern Illinois's ability to handle the ups and downs of this ball game showed up no didn't do that and they got learned from it yeah they got to get ready to go they go to Purdue for their game next week in the meantime it is one of the big upsets certainly of this college football season the biggest upset shocker Notre Dame goes down to Northern Illinois as we send you back to the studio
