Jim White and Simon Jordan midm mornings on talk sport hard edged hard noosed hard to beat the radio program where the only thing they agree about is the name highly charged highly opinionated highly recommended Jim White and Simon Jordan midm mornings on talk sport good morning everybody you're listening to Jim White and Simon Jordan we're live in talk sports so and another night of carabo cup action but as the third round draw causes a stir is the outrage about keeping European teams apart Justified meantime as Enzo maresa doubles down on his Chelsea bomb squad why is it okay for a club to agitate a player out the door but wrong for a player to do the same also today we'll bring in the very latest Transfer News will we see a clean slate from Lee carsley and his England squad announcement today do the Premier League need to put their money where their mouth is regarding referees Pep's bonuses is money the biggest motivator when it comes to leadership and from midday we talk boxing with fight pundit Spencer Oliver it's Jim White and it's Simon Jordan and we are live on talk sport 100% engagement Jim White and Simon Jordan on talk sport now then yesterday when I did say at the top of the show that I was a bit alarmed at the amount of hair product you were using you were saying you might get a little trim you've gone out and you've got yourself a dinky little trim I did I love that 8:00 last night got my hair cut yeah because you were busy during the day weren't you or in the afternoon yes um doing voiceovers for this television show that I'm doing um called sport versus business which is all about different aspects of the Premier League the evolution of sport European Super League the MLS all kinds of different stuff but it's I mean bloody hard yards I mean there's people are Di and ditches is much harder yards but uh doing four and a half hours of trying to read voiceover lines after doing three hours of flapping my gums here I know I know was wearing on my own ear it's it's tough being so sought after in the media isn't it but this is it as I say it was wearing on my own ear well done you uh 8:00 for a haircut indeed indeed how does that happen um there's a salon stay open for you no he he came to my house oh he came to you he came to you little boy hair as well oh really indeed you got a two for one indeed excellent two uh we are streaming live on YouTube and Facebook if you want to watch the show you can head over to the official uh talk sport channel on those platforms just while I remember tomorrow night live on YouTube later on in the evening like building up to 11 o' Mr krook and myself Alex krook and myself will be live on YouTube uh live in talk sport as well the closing stages of transfer deadline day I gave that a little mention in my column in the mail today did you yeah under the aice if you want to listen to that Carnival Horrors tune in to Jim oh that was nice Friday evening still a promo is a promo and we'll take it whenever we can get it um I haven't read your column this morning I was doing something much less important but I will have a look at it in the next commercial break New Castle West Ham Southampton and wolves all progress to the caribo cup third round but ips switch lose out on penalties to lead two AFC Wimbledon um I want to hear Simon the caribo cup for teams fighting for Dom IC survival such as ipswitch um is is is that the better option longer term for ipswitch to concentrate well and truly on survival in the Premier League um you'd like to think that they would have the depth um of squad inside a premier league side coming up from the championship to be able to head off um a league one or League two side in a competitive match I don't think it's hugely meaningful either Which Way um I think that winning games is important gaining momentum building confidence but IPS have plenty of confidence they've come out of the championship and they've played two teams that realistically speaking should not really be considered anything that knocks them away from their stride who in their right mind expecting them to land any gloves on Liverpool and Manchester City yeah if you wanted a baptism of fire you couldn't have asked for anything more challenging the only thing you could have his Arsenal next in the mix I suspect um look I always like to see teams win if the priority that the manager has determined is that the nature of his Squad the elements of concern are for him to make sure that he doesn't have any additional wear and tear then it's probably the more sensible decision or be it's not the most sporting compelling for the fans that pay their dough to go and watch what about your good s at Palace and um what was it 0405 when you came up did you Biff off the cups no not really but we we bought a lot of players so we were able to rotate um and give a lot of the players that dowy had so desperately needed that subsequently B afterwards after they cost me a fortune um to give them opportunities to play and that's where all the rankor started with Charon because we played Charon in the third round of the uh Carlin cup at the time beat them at their place and their announcer announced the Crystal Palace team under their office Crystal palace's team is this and calls all kinds of ractions a year later I'm in court with I and Dai and uh Richard muray and all kinds of problems and that was the seed capital that kind of dissatisfaction but no we try to win games yeah but not withstanding it if if if the manager come to me and said you know I'm really going to play with less emphasis in this game I would have said yeah your job you do what you think's best do what you think's best you did have two early exits from the cup unfortunately didn't you if memory servs me right um yeah there were two early exit for Palace around there third round and fourth round was it well we beat Charon in the third round of The Carling cup and got knocked out by man united to the next round I right right which is at man united yeah of course yeah with due respect what else could you do um I'm looking at the caribo Cup draw Simon um for the the the next stages of Manchester United against barnesley uh Chelsea against B Arsenal against Bolton wonders sitting in the cup does it kill the Integrity of this competition um a new seting mechanism has been introduced now you probably heard a bit about this in breakfast but we we we're we're going to get into this right now a new seating mechanism has been introduced to the competition for the third round draw now basically because the champions league is expanding there's now A Clash in the calendar for when traditionally The League Cup third round matches would be played So to avoid fixture clashes and to ease congestion teams playing in Europe in the Champions League have been kept apart to allow them to fulfill um both their Champions League and their caribo cup commitments across a twoe period so in other words what's going on here the big guns are having their European commitments prioritized over what is a domestic cup that's the benit that's the benefit of M isn't it no but yeah but let's call it for what it is the draw has been tampered with here in favor of the bigger teams in favor of the elite where is the spirit of competition domestically with this well first and foremost you could say that coming in the third round of the FA Cup has a skewed perspective effective doesn't it because the the bigger sides all the bigger sides come in in the third round second of all which do you want the efl didn't have to accept this it's their no choice they didn't have a choice no it's it's it is their choice they could have pushed back and made it a public domain issue and and had a song and dance about it no UEFA is saying we want to make more money out the Champions League you're missing my point so to do this I get it but that's not uefa's gift to superimpose over what happens in a domestic League UEFA can expend their tournaments as much as they want how the league then Finds Its way through a OD ating those extra fixtures is up to the league scheduling now if the efl were felt that strongly about it there's this argument what you wa for actually want is the second cup removed right you've seen it happen in Spain you've seen it happen in Italy and what you've got in the UK is a resistance because we feel there's a fundamental value in having this tournament that was created in the 60s that has great legacy attached to it was originally created to be able to compensate what for for the bigger teams being kicked out of the FA Cup early by losing games so it's always staggered around giving the the bigger sides a better opportunity to win a cup because ultimately that's what the League Cup was created for and now what you've got is a less of two evils do you want these sides to play in this tournament that generates revenue for the efl because a lot of them don't want to so if you do you're going to have to find some form of compromise that you might not like you might not think in an ideal world is a perfect representation of the perfect world of football balance or the alternative is they turn around and say they're not going to play well one minute you say the the efl didn't need to do this and and now you and now you and now you're saying they need to compromise no I'm saying that the commercial reality of it is that they have an alternative which is to push back and say no we're not doing it and then as a result of where would that get them well depends how Brave they feel they have to be depends how how how fertile the Battleground is for them to drag the Premier League Kicking and Screaming into an argument in the public domain about how they rule English football given the fact an independent Regulators coming down the down the line saying this is what we mean this is the waiting of football this is the unfairness of it valuable competition that's been historically very meaningful to this country has been diminished and demeaned by the greed avarest of Premier League football clubs and play that out in the public domain they chose not to do that what they chose to do was find a commercial solution in a big grown-up world of how people find compromises so all those people that are sitting there again it's awful it's outrageous it's unfortunate well okay so is the Premier League to some extent so so is the distribution of wealthiness in football to some extent but in this instance so commercial utions Trump Integrity don't they I sorry are you bringing Integrity into the conversation when it comes to football yes because this draw has been tampered with no that's exactly what's happen here commercial Solutions have trumped Integrity everything no it's just evolved everything's seeded so when you've got a Wimbledon number SE okay so why does the number one player in Wimbledon get seeded to avoid the number two player no I don't think he should be but that's how sport is because ultimately sport is about getting the best ideally to get to the finals the car here has had to bow to UEFA because they want to expand the Champions Le whatever the U do with the Champions League should have nothing to do with the caribo cup but they haven't bowed to UEFA they've bowed to the lobby inside the Premier League that's acquest to UEFA and the reasons why the Premier League the big six well whoever the big six may be at that time that's wrong year ago wouldn't have been Aston Villa considered a big S isn't that wrong I think it's the reality why why why is it wrong it's the reality of what happens football is now as much about money as it is about the competitive of the sport and one of the things it isn't is silly because it is so the bottom line is is we've now got have you thought perhaps that it might be easier with the distributions if the big six get what they want the next time you go on their door for more distribution down to the pyramid which they don't have to do and they're not doing well you wouldn't do it either if someone came along to you and said voluntarily give that money to that radio presenter over there because he's getting less than you you'd say s off until you were made to do so right in this instance the Premier League clubs will be made to do but you get more and more leverage there's more concessions being made in exchange for those concessions there has to be something back the first thing that comes back is their participation in a competition that they don't want to be in in the first place the second thing that comes back is a loading of your gun with a metaphorical bullet to turn around and say we've made concessions you better start Distributing fairly now because you're getting more money as a result of your participation in the UFA competition which we get zero benefit from I get all that but do you accept politics that the spirit of competition is impacted by this um do I well do I okay England gets seeded yes no because England gets seeded in a world cup and because they've done well in qualifying groups and meaningless friendlies they get seeded to avoid teams so for the first time because it because UEFA want to expand their Champions League the caribo cup is affected and the draw is tampered with but the caribel cup can because they're keeping Champions League teams English Champions League teams aart in a totally different competition and that that is a a totally valid argument and the only alternative i' would give to it is don't have them then and then have no competition because the revenues that will be generated will be zip and the reasons why they're they're making this compromis is because it's a lesser of two evils do I think it's wonderful no then why aren't the big clubs coming in on the first round of the FA Cup why doesn't that happen when did that get decided as fair and repres fine the big clubs are telling the smaller clubs you are nothing without us you need us you need us no this competition does acquest to us this competition does this competition does this competition is entirely predicated upon the value of the big clubs being in it so is this the first nail in the coffin then of the caribo cup this is this is the start isn't it you if are tampering with it okay so when man united deci inally just in the passing why can't a Champions League team play a Champions League team in what respects well and because of all of this a CH a Champions League team an english team playing a Europa League team an english team would be a problem I get that in terms of future but commercial value in the same way why can't a top side in Europe play a top side in Europe or the world in the world cup and why are they seeded in such a way to the potentially avoid one another to the business end of the tournament is this right is is what we're seeing today this CBO Cup draw and the way it's fashioned the way it's the way it's been brought about this time around for the third round is it right that it's done in this way is it right compared to what's been done before is it right it favors the big guns I mean what will they tamper with next is it is it is it right in comparison with what we've done before if we start if we started the conversation today right and the League Cup didn't exist and The League Cup now was brought onto the roster and ultimately s suggested that the top six clubs are not going to be put into a certain mix people would accept it as the principle of a new tournament because it's steeped in some sort of Legacy history which is being disbanded left right and Center everything that we ever knew about football has been restructured from how many points you get to a game to how a game is afficiated to which team's playing the champions We which by the way is 95 90% of the teams in the Champions League aren't even bleeding Champions so we can look at the whole thing and say well it's all rooted in hypocrisy and double standards and all centered in one thing the only reason efl cup exists now in it in its entirety is for one reason and one reason only the commercial Revenue it brings to the football league because every other league in Europe is being positively encouraged Ed to step their second cup down and the resistance from the UK is no actually we attach value to it and if that's the less of two evils that we maintain this valuable Cup by finding something that gives an acquiescence to the the big six whoever they may be at the time then I'll live with it other don't want to then campaign for the cup to be no more there's Dan in the wh I think you've nailed it Dan good morning supporters outside the top six are completely fed up with the Top Flight football these days this is another example of keeping the top clubs at the top because they make the most money uh along with PS and the top six getting find pittances for trying to break away into a super Le and I and I agree with that I agree with the principle that once upon a time I agreed with PRS and I agreed with financial fair play because I thought it what it would do is reduce hyperinflation stop having to listen to burbling rubbish on transfer deadline day about how much money people have wasted and put some order into football but it didn't what it did was is it created a a trapdoor effect I.E everyone else was locked out yeah so I agree with that but what in a real world where we all have to live if these guys don't want to play in this league Cup Tournament what will happen to it we both know what will happen to it it lose its commercial value what is the lesser of two evils UEFA tampering with it you're making it about UEFA that's what it is it's about the it's about the Premier League's theyed it through the if the Premier League and the other leagues didn't want to increase the UEFA tournament then they wouldn't have done would they so Money Talks I mean that it's natural EV it's Natural Evolution as you would say sitting in the cup then does it kill the Integrity of the competition is this the first sign so that the the big boys who are in the Champions League can't draw each other in a totally different tournament the carabo cup so Europe is uh having the priority over a domestic competition where will it end is this the first sign of Europe being prioritized over domestic cups you might want to give me a call on that 0371 7234 um there's message here I was raging about this Jim and then Simon talks about it for five minutes he kind of puts it in perspective now I'm happy enough to eat my midm morning pastry damn it that's not the sort of response I want 20 past 10 e e e e talk sport traffic and travel with my deer cooling and heating find an easier route to win air source heat pump project with my dear win more earn faster that's the my dear idea Sunday afternoon on talk sport 2 give us a goal it's all happening in the news building good morning everybody um apparently there's a fire drill going on at the moment Mr Jordan and I carry on as if nothing's happening don't worry about it if you're watching on YouTube and Facebook though and you see smoke gather around me then we might be out of here no we could be like um Steve McQueen Steve McQueen and Pa Newman in Towering Inferno that's right You' be right I I would be that was an amazing and you'd be Steve McQueen absolutely uh Simon I'm so thrilled I'm so honored to have a mention in your CM this morning Simon Jordan on Thursday it looks the same Monday Tuesday Wednesday Friday Saturday Sunday but the payoff line so I'll find something else to do tomorrow night transfer deadline day culminating in the deadline itself for those glued into watching my colleague Jim White enjoy the carnival of Horrors and those of a fainter disposition perhaps look away if a young player is sold that's your contribution to it is it it is you seem to have forgotten you started with me at at Sky on H deadline day and uh give your all that that was in my um educational period oh where I was trying to help you through the difficulties and vagaries of making sense doing transfer deadline day now I realize it makes no sense to anybody yeah I've given up that Pursuit yeah okay that's the way you think no Millions will be tuned in they will and we'll be doing our L Alex Kook the very best in the business will be with me tomorrow night is's joining us this morning as well to tell us about Kea going to bourma that and a whole lot more um why is your taking this seating in the cup this new mechanism that's been introduced uh to uh the competition the caliber cup competition for the third round draw to ensure there is no clash with European and Cup fixtures the efl have enforced new rules which will see teams playing in Europe avoid each other in the early rounds so in other words they've tampered with the caribo cup third round draw let's call it for what is and they've done it in favor of the the bigger teams where is the spirit of competition with this the big guns are having their European commitments prioritized over this domestic competition because UEFA says so and there's an argument that the efl has no choice we asked for calls we're getting calls 0371 7234 Ben and Arsenal fan Ben good morning what do you want to say good morning good morning Simon good morning morning Ben just a maybe a sort of alternative View and I get coming from an Arsenal fan people might scof it but um if the big teams are are kept apart surely that means there's by default more chance of a smaller team getting a Bigg way day going to one of the big boys a pay day maybe you know day out for the fans and if they play a weaken team they might even get a result in a famous win in their history so it could be a good thing I mean possibly more chance of upsets um in the the longer in the longer stretch though Ben are you not somewhat perplexed that you wa for effectively tampers with are you a domestic Cup draw here um I I think if if if the the Premier League AFL were that concerned about it then it wouldn't happen I don't think they are okay Ben thank you for the call here's Alex a West Ham fan in doring Alex good morning what do you want to say hi guys just want to say great show you two you two are quality together the fact there a 5-year-old guy and you're still doing the show still doing it Alex still doing it for you mate it's cuz the management doesn't care about it Alex that's what it is no exactly Flames are licking around our our our heels and and we're carrying on what do you want to say Alex it's getting hot in here mate move on do you know what you know what do you know what this sort of thing does it's been happening for a while and I speak for a lot of us the amount of people that are Premier League fans yeah who have just fallen out of love with the Prem and I had done a challenge last year I done a silly challenge last year I started up the 10th tier of English football and I work my way up if my if they won I I got promoted if they drew I stay if I if I lost I got relegated and I done like a change of non- league and I bumped in so many people falling out of the Premier League for this for this sort of reason like it's it's just lost like no one cares about us anymore like the the big six are always going to get you know the the the the good treatment and when you go to like these non- League clubs and you see people that have just fallen out of it and you have a little you have a little hot CH or Shake little b r you go on league if people if people out there are think all the Premier League is rubish all football's done just get yourself down to non leag Alex what what a great call the purity of football Simon has gone the purists I mean at the top end everything's a skew I mean Alex has just described it perfectly let's let's call it for what it is this this draw has been tampered with if that's what you want to call it yeah I mean it's been it's been manipulated to achieve an outcome to maintain the value of the tournament it's very simple it's very simple take the big clubs out take the big clubs out but is that what it's going next that fine if it's so awful and every wants to everyone wants to go down to little grounds with grass growing out of the uh Terraces where you go into the toilet and it smells like high heaven and you can't get anything and everything's got poor facilities then wonderful if you're a purus I've been in the championship I've been in the Premier League and I don't care what people say because he was an owner I know where I'd rather be the Premier League is far more engaging far more Illuminating far more entertaining far better quality there is something very valuable about the pyramid something very valuable about the uh the non-league teams and something very uh edifying about the way that Grassroots football is so important to the nation but the reality of it is is that football is driven by the finances fans will forever in a day sing and chant about who they want how they want this best players best facilities best managers best opportunity why are rexam alive why is rexam alive and everyone going the football club saved our community because some Hollywood guys came in gave it some Stardust have now monetized it through the fact that they've got a television show which is making it commercially viable and guess what's happening the money is driving them up the league but what's that got to do with fixing a draw well it's not about fixing a draw it's your version of how a draw is fixed it's just changing the manner in which the competition has participated in fixing a dra isal oh hang on Aral that we're not going to put in with them it's as good as that's exactly what it is it's seeding it just You' just my aring it at certain point so the argument then must be what don't let them plead them why because they can't play them because they're both in the Champions League that's exactly what it is well it's partly that yeah I agree fair enough it's partly but so then why aren't they coming so why does so why is the League Cup and the FA Cup never brought big clubs in in the first round isn't that waiting the draw in a certain way isn't that denying clubs of a certain ilk an opportunity in the first round or is it only clubs of a certain ilk above the ilk that get into the first round that qualify for the fairness of the third round you can look at it any which way you want and say it's not perfect and this is not perfect it's not it's not ideal but for me as a grownup in the room I look at it and say and we all kids are we well by comparison if you're thinking is if your if your thinking is I would rather lose this tournament like every other bloody country in Europe has at UA's directive yeah then actually make some concessions then I think that's silly thinking I do think it's childish I think but why would they have to lose the tournament because because the tournament's wonderful because the fixture congestion when don't tamper then why do they have to lose it in every other okay every other country's got lesser leagues in terms of the competition the amount of teams that are in the league the German bundes league has less teams in it the other leagues have less teams in it they've dropped their competitions we have more teams yet we're still playing it there Jack logic in there Jack from sheppy Good Morning Jack morning Jim morning Simon completely agree with the previous caller I stopped following Chelsea to follow my local team sheppy United nine years ago I haven't looked back we even got to the FA Cup first round and played Walla last season that's I'm going to put it out there are any others out there turning their back on Top Flight football because of something such as this you have a third round draw in the caribo cup but because you wafer getting their way it's not you wafer how because wafer have lent on them here and the efl have gone with it where is the spirit of competition with this we'll get back to it it's only half 10 e e e e on 1089 and 1053 medium wave online on your mobile and on your smart speaker talk Spencer Oliver will be in studio to join us for that of course all eyes next month on Wembley Simon when AJ goes in against Daniel Dubois uh that is getting bigger literally by the day because they've had to um uh add seats to The Venue it's it's expanding all the time and um there's going to be an Mighty number of people there way up over 95,000 at that I heard the other day because the self-appointed Zar of boxing now has the ability to be able to influence the amount of seating we can have inside the stadiums yes yeah and we're going to get into that this morning that and a whole lot more Alex c will join us shortly for those who don't know Kea Arab balaga has left the bomb squad at Chelsea and is now down at Bournemouth um that is just one of many moves ongoing at the moment Simon has written about for deadline Dan is colum the daily mail if you want to have a read at that this morning it's very good and I love the picture of you um Alex Cook and I will be here right through the deadline and Beyond tomorrow night so a lot going on this morning but basically we're getting down to an argument here between lower league clubs and Elite clubs this is what this is about let's let's face it the third round draw for the caribo cup a new seating mechanism has been introduced to the competition for the third round draw and this is to ensure there's no clash with Europe Cup fixtures the efl have enforced new rules which will see teams playing in Europe avoid each other in the early rounds because UEFA has lent on everybody that this is the way they want it to happen they want to make more money out the champions league and as a result of that effectively the third round draw of the caribo cup is affected Adam's a big West Ham fan Adam what you want to say good morning uh good morning guys how you doing um morning living over I'm living over in in Switzerland I listen to you guys in my car all the time and I love the show thank you it's first time I've been on the radio so you're welcome you um I watch a lot of Swiss football I go to all the local games and they only have our version of the FA Cup they don't have a League Cup here and what they do is the the lower ranked team always play at home in the draw and I think that that would be a fairer way of uh doing the draw I mean West Ham have just gotten Liverpool away and we had the same fixture last year Liverpool played their B team we played our B team and if you spent a fortune to go and watch the game you don't know who's playing until an hour before the match it's not really fair for anyone um you know I'm all for changing as a positive but I don't see why it should be that the big six get to you know be seeded and then they get a home draw as well it just doesn't seem fair I see so the smaller team over there in Switzerland Adam always gets the the home draw they're always at home exactly exactly like I mean just recently you know the local team just played young boys they got smashed 10 nil but they Reser they erected a load of Stadium there so they could have 5,000 supporters watching the game the whole time Town came out to watch it was brilliant I like that Adam so football Integrity is Alive and Well in Switzerland yeah exactly yeah yeah Adam nice call like was the Integrity in in determining an outcome in terms of a venue and by the way in affecting an outcome well by by by giving somebody a Home Advantage also waiting in favor and I'll tell you what running up the flag pole of the uh the clubs in League 2 would you like to play Liverpool at home in front of 5,000 people or would you like to play Liverpool anfield in front of 50,000 people where you get the share of 50,000 fans and I guarantee you the straw poll that we did would come in favor of most of the of the uh lower league clubs saying well I'd rather play play the game away because it get more D Adam listen thanks for your call Mike down in Southampton I think you've nailed it here one minute Simon is bleaching about sporting integrity and then he's backing tampering with a competition to favor the so-called big sides just like the Champions League this is destroying the sport for the desire of money which particular bleet was I on about the sporting Integrity the desire of money but which which bleet was that because I'm the one that said in the room uh integrity and sport in the same conversation doesn't sound like someone bleeting about it that someone says that someone's laughing at the idea that it's steeped in Integrity in the first place you do talk about it a lot though when um like all the time no I don't ever no I don't I don't I don't think it's a sentence that belongs together no no but you you you can see the argument here for supporters of lower league teams saying the elite are being favored here this is all to help the elite in ufas in 's determined PL to make more money it's a conspiracy with the Davos group they're all doing it to to to reduce the proletariat to the lowest common denominator it's the economics of football it's the way that the world works one hopes that the tradeoff is that the increased revenues that go into the Premier League can find their way down the pyramid and everybody gets some benefit from it or the efl when that going to happen never the efl like some sort of deranged dick witon with a sort of stick and a spotted handkerchief can trundle off down the road and have no Premier League clubs in it and then they'll see how far they get with that we take one more call in this stepan's a evertonian Stefan good morning mate how do you want to finish this for me thanks very much H great show again um what I want to say is I think that um Champions League team should be taken out of the carabo cup um I think it would make it more competitive for them mid Premier League te teams like Everton not that we would win it um but I think it would also ensure that when and the previous caller touched upon it there's no B Teams of the Premier League playing playing B Teams of championship teams or whatnot so we could just get rid of it we'd still have the like some Manchester United Tottenham Chelsea in the in the cup so it would be um it would still be financially viable but who cares if Man City or man united or whatever winner every year um it would get it would open up the playing field a little bit I like the call Stephan I like the call I like the sentiment of the call as well it's not a bad idea is it no it's a decent idea ask the efl when they're packaging it up and they're selling the overseas rights to the football league cup and they go to all the different sponsors and the advertisers this year you're not going to get Liverpool you're not going to get Manchester United you're not going to get Arsenal you're not going to get Man City but you're going to pay the same amount of money for it and see what happens I'll ask you one final question as we hit the break Alex CR joins us the other side of it we'll talk transfers do you accept Simon that the spirit of the competi the spirit of the caribo cup third round is impacted here I think it's a change that's a yes no not particular I think it's a change whether it's a progressive change is it does matter do I think the spirit of it I think I think that the I think that the the elite side should come in in the first round in the FA Cup first round of the League Cup if you want to talk about about Spirit of the competition why is it all of a sudden they've waited at certain times no it's a change that I think a lot of people will take exception to and I understand why they take exception to I just happen to look at it from a different point of view which is I know for a long time the agenda has been to get rid of this cup and that is a that is a very weighted agenda that's manifesting itself in other countries around the world that actually play less games than our teams do yet we are I have the wherewith out and the resilience to try and maintain the value in it by finding concessions and finding ability to be able to find compromises to retain the value in this competition and if people don't like it that's their prerogative I happen to look at the bigger picture and say I'd rather have this cup than not Winston in darbishire hi Winston Jimmy you never read my messages out I am now Simon says what would the lower league teams do without the big teams commercially but football would not exist if it wasn't for the rest of the smaller teams and Grassroots football oh yeah yeah good Lu with yeah good point absolutely right good point absolutely if it wasn't hold on the final word for Mr it wasn't Akon Stanley there'd be no Premier League the Premier League is has been spawned out of the the pyramid absolutely but as the sport evolves whether you like the evolution or not the football league and its contributing factors are becoming less and less important sorry tragic as it may be it happens to be a reality and it's not going to change unless we all want to go down the route of saying we're going to reduce all the cost implications of football we're not going to pay this kind of money for everything else then we can all equalize it again because everything should be equalized in society shouldn't it yeah I could bring on the Super League that's bound to be next good Jordan the egos have landed midm mornings on talk sport beautiful blue sky here in London hope it's good wherever you're listening all around the UK it is uh Thursday morning August the 29th we're going to head down the road from here uh at the news building at London Bridge to Lord second test Ingram Sri Lanka John Norman good morning yeah good morning to you Jim beautiful here at the home of cricket where we are moments away from the start of the second test match of three England were given a real test at Old Trafford Sri Lanka battling back six for three in the first Innings at one for two but still they set England a total that uh and they pushed them all the way to the end of day four Joe root uh battening the hatches really as he ground his way and his side to Victory um the second test match has gone the way of the first in regard to the task it's Sri Lanka who have won it and they sprung a little bit of a surprise because they've decided to bowl first the Captain Dan J de Silva saying he wanted to or wants to take advantage of uh swinging conditions for the first hour or so well looking to the heavens it looks beautiful it looks a batting day so we shall see whether that was uh a gamble that has paid off or one that will uh fall flat England one it up with two to play they've had a golden summer so far four games four wins but they have been uh uh they've lost the services of markwood for the rest of this series um they've lost the services of Ben Stokes and of course they got a makeshift opener as well so they've got a challenge and a test here today but first they need to get through that first session Dan Lawrence and Ben Ducket will be walking out to the crease in about 10 minutes time after Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to Bow thank you very much John Norman updates from John throughout the morning no doubt um let's find out who's moving and shaking in the order of transfers Mr Alex krook and myself we're going to overdrive tomorrow night as we build up to the deadline itself that is then this is now toport Chief football correspondent Mr crook good morning to you good morning disappointed to to hear Simon saying that he's not going to be tuned in tomorrow night I bet he will you know he just won't admit it of course he will of course he will he always does you always say you're not going to be anywhere near it and then you tell me uh what you heard what you saw Etc you'll be texting me throughout of course you will um Alex good morning to you what is the latest regards Aaron ramsdale is he southampton's new goalkeeper certainly looks that way Jim uh he was due on the south coast for a medical today after a fee was agreed late last night actually right before kickoff Southampton beating Cardiff in the league cup all along in this transfer window Arsenal have been pretty steadfast in their 30 million pound valuation of Aaron ramsdale that was the talk when wols were trying to sign him on loan they wanted an obligation for a permanent 30 million transfer they lowered their sites it's £1 million up front another million pound if sampton stay up and it could get as high as 25 million pound based on various uh performance-based add-ons I think this is a good piece of business for Southampton they've been busy in the transfer market this summer but they've signed largely unproven Premier League players I think in terms of what he brings on the pitch and in the dressing room this could be quite a key addition for Russell Martin I think it's a great move for him Simon do do you know the boy wants to play he's desperate to play he's going to be busy um and so with that in mind I think he's a valuable acquisition for Southampton it's a strange climb down from the heights of being signed for Arsenal to go and Achieve significant things to now finding himself thrust into Southampton a club that's threatened with relegation but fair play to him if he wants to play and this is an opportunity to do so he certainly will be earning his money because Southampton are going to find themselves under a lot of pressure this season and he will be the perhaps the reason if they do stay in the division uh or one of the reasons because of his goalkeeping performances and it's the case this morning the South Coast clubs going for bigname goalkeepers because Bournemouth have done the same right yes they have Kea arifa belaga on loan from Chelsea he extended his contract at Stanford Bridge before making this move he accepted lowest salary because of course he was the highest paid goalkeeper in World football there's no uh sell on option in this deal Bournemouth contributing a significant percentage of his new wages and a bit of a trivia question he's the second Champions League winner that Bournemouth has signed after Gary Cahill but he's the first player they've had on their books who's lifted that Trophy twice what a summer it's been for Bournemouth they've lost Dominic salanki they've replaced him with a full Brazilian International and a record signing in ever Nelson I was at the Vitality last Sunday I thought they looked really good against Newcastle they've got Everton away from home this weekend and I fancy them to inflict more misery on Sha DA's team interesting you were raising an eyebrow or two well you've only got two but I saw one of them move uh about the keer move to Bournemouth no not really I mean ultimately he's he's a goalkeeper that's gone from being highly valued to one that found himself in all kinds of controversy as a result of his Antics in the pitch in the efl Cup Final where a major team got to um irrespective of seeding or not um and he now finds himself at Bournemouth um which is a good club and and I think the chairman has proven or the owner has proven to have some very strong views on how he wants his football club run and took some very B bold decisions that have proven to be right we like him Bill Foley we like the sound of him well you know he's one of those fellas that has backs himself doesn't he puts himself in a position I don't so sure he would have been quite as sanguin as he professed to be if bourou got relegated because he said that when he made the decision to get rid of Gary O'Neal I'll take the consequences if we get relegated yeah the reality of the consequences a little bit more far reaching than just saying you'll take them when you can't get back out the division the next season but he's done well he didn't have that problem and he was right and long may continue to be so now Alex a friend of this show Gary O'Neil at wolves was kind of suggesting all right we've seen a few go but I need them in so is he getting a couple of players in today or certainly before the deadline he is Jim wolves making moves late in the window like you I spoke to Gary after they lost to Arsenal on the opening day of the Season he said we've got1 million pounds in the kitty now from selling Netto and kilman we need to invest investing they are Sam Johnston on his way from Simon's old Club Crystal Palace for10 million he'll be the new number one I'm told Jose SAR eventually will leave the football club where that happens between now and Friday I think he's open to interpretation and they've also agreed a deal of around about 25 million euros for Andre a midfielder Brazilian playing at fluminense he's been linked with Fulham in recent transfer windows but looks like he's on his way to M and you and they're still trying to get K Osho out of Burnley as well so it could be a busy end to the window for wolves okay and I think the the the lad who's coming in as you say Andre is is big news in South America I mean I think flumi beat Juniors did they not Southampton though in getting in Aaron ramsdale are they also doing some business today elsewhere well what's intriguing about this deal is that you're allowed two domestic loans now we all assumed that Aaron ramsdale was going to join Southampton on loan and therefore that would shut the door on another Premier League loan now that it's a permanent deal it does give Southampton some flexibility Maxwell corn is one West Ham player on their radar and I sort of teased you with this yesterday I am told there's a possibility they make a move for James W prous to bring him back to the South Coast from West Ham he's a player that Russell Martin admires again I think he would bring a bit of leadership and a bit of premier league experience I'm not saying this will happen but I think it's more of a possibility now than maybe it was earlier in the window want to keep an eye on for sure as is Miguel Almer on from Newcastle to Fulham potentially Fulham showing late interest in him okay big favorite in the Northeast is alar on Alex thanks very much indeed for that isn't it incredible Simon how a player like James Ward PR gets his move to West Ham all sorts of talk that he'll go with Southgate to the Euros all sorts of talk that he might do well for for England at Germany didn't happen because that didn't happen and now seemingly ly doesn't fancy him at West Ham and could be going back to Southampton all in the space of a few weeks well I suspect he wouldn't have left Southampton if there wasn't the relegation and the necessity for Southampton to realize some funds so the fact that he's now playing for West Ham for a manager that didn't sign him and doesn't see him part of the plans and perhaps going back to Southampton may just be the natural order of events because if Southampton stayed in the division I'm not entirely sure he would have left so he went in did a job for David Moyes and his team for a period of time and given that La perhaps wants to play a different way and doesn't just see all the merits in a dead bull specialist orbe I think James Ward prices a prices a little bit more than that um going back to your spiritual home I mean Matt latier never left Southampton did he and and and and had opportunities to do so maybe if Southampton got relegated he might have done who knows yeah but the the going back to Southampton would be I think it would be a great um I think it would be a great meeting again because he would give the fans a lift uh and give the club a lift and he would be lifted by the reception he got yeah where someone want Alex will be joining us uh throughout the day and then throughout the day tomorrow building up to the deadline itself JT and Essex is worried about you Sam great show show as always guys but I'm watching on YouTube Simon did your hear dresser past 11:00 beautiful day here in London the cricket underway just along the road at Lords it's Jim we Simon Jordan we're live in talk sport coming to you live on YouTube and Facebook as well if you want to watch the show uh then you can head over to the official talk sport channel on those platforms a lot to get through many of you in anticipation of last minute movers and shakers in the world of transfers asking me also of questions this morning James up in Newcastle big Newcastle fan hi guys love the show Thanks James would be gutted to lose Alma on to Fulham a great player who is responsible for getting us Champions League football I'm still hoping to see gahi come through the door amiron certainly is a big favorite up there Simon we know that but Fulham seemed to be quietly going about some business I mean they they they took yam Anderson didn't they just the other day um I'm never really quite sure what fulam are what they want to achieve they're a Premier League club but you know more than that what what what's the ambition at Fulham would you say be competitive in the Premier League yeah I mean the fell that owns it got enormous amounts of money um and owns a you know an NFL franchise yeah understands the value of the sport understands the value of the Premier League and knows that the participation in it giving yourself an opportunity to be a top 10 Premier League club and build and maybe get yourself knocking on the door of the top six cuz you's got the same wealth as the guys that own Aston Villa is a reality for Fulham I mean the the transfer of certain players like alaran seems to be the transition period from what Newcastle were to what they want to become we've seen the departure of Alan San maximan s maximum that was a huge favorite at Newcastle that did great things for periods of time alarin had a difficult period then came through it and became a fan favorite but they're in a pursuit of the top of the division now and they obviously view this as an opportunity to um or the reality of the players that once were are no longer for them and and teams like Fulham are picking up around the sides you know Fulham picked up eobi didn't they from Everton last season who's done a decent job for them yeah true uh it's all gone quite it would seem kyogo to Manchester City Celtics kyogo um many people ask me to ask Alex CR next time he's on but certainly you're right it has gone All Quiet on that one Enzo maresca has been talking Chelsea in European action they've got to try and see off servette which I think they probably well do but um on this subject of this bomb squad we've been talking about those who've been training on their own marasa has made it pretty clear that if you're in that group then you stand next to no chance of getting a single minute even under him at the football club but it begs a question why is it viewed acceptable for a club to force a player out of the door but when a do the same it's a disgrace this is morasa on those who aren't training with the first team my advice it's just uh he knows exactly what he has to do I don't think he needs to be honest my my advice because I prefer to be honest with the player so with the r happened exactly the same they are all player the ones that they are not involved they are all players that uh they are not going to be involved and they don't get any minutes in case they stay so I don't know what's happen if when the windows thrf is closed who is here and who is not here but the only thing I can say that the ones that they are going to get minutes are the ones that uh I think that they can help us so if you're in that group and you're training some distance from the first team group and Sterling's one of them the moment the transfer window closes and you're still here you're not going to get minutes well maybe maybe not depends what you do but that's a false comparison you just gave there why about forcing people out of clubs because the obligation that people have to a player is to pay him that's the predominant obligation and at no point can anyone avoid that obligation even if they want the player out a player Downing TOs and refusing to play because he can't get something he wants and ultimately a move is a completely different thing that's not meeting the obligations the only responsibility that a football club has is to provide a training environment under the obligations of sporting chance and pay his salary if a player subsequently can't make himself available to play because he's got the hump because he can't get something he wants or he can't engineer the move that he prefers to have like Riad mahrez did at Manchester City and leer and was ay supported by the Ridiculousness of the PFA in that situation they're completely different Dynamics so it's not the same the only obligation if I buy a player and he breaks his leg I still got to pay him until he fixes himself yeah and if I buy a player and I don't want to play him that's my choice choice as well as long as I pay him yeah of course it is but M me and I'm quite sure there have been a number of players who discover what you're like as an owner and want out and agitate for a move out well first are they wrong to do that first and foremost they wouldn't discover what I'm like as an owner because I didn't interact with them second of all the manager's responsibility is to pick the side and if a manager decides that a player is no longer Surplus Surplus requirements then that's it then the club's responsibility is either to facilitate a solution for the player which happens in all walks of life they go somewhere else or to suck it up and pay a player that nobody else wants H so that's the respons it's not the same no one's Downing tools no no one's Downing tools the players down tools though when they don't get what they wantas all right so AG with so when we're categorizing it as when someone forces a move through why is it all right for a club to force a player out of a club rather than rather than a player we've here we've got Raheem Sterling who's under contract and they'll pay him and the football club is agitating for him to get out the car no they've just told him they're not agitating for anything God forbid the player doesn't H hand in a transfer request or turn up for training he doesn't want to hand in a transfer he's he's going about his business very professionally first and foremost he if he has in a transfer request he'll have a financial consequence as a result of it which is why he won't hi in the transfer request because he doesn't want to lose loyalty payments or whatever else that goes with the transfer request being put in second of all if a club decides for whatever reason that the direction they're going in is not including that player given that there's only a certain amount of players that can play on a field there's nothing awful about that as long as they meet their obligations to keep playing him if they keep paying him that's their contractual obligation I don't understand this confected outrage or sentiment about a player that's no longer chosen by a player by a club to be part of it but they'll still meet their obligations there's no one saying to him tell you what we're going to put you over there and we're not going to pay you if someone said that then everyone could be up in arms but we have said before and Ben Jacobs was on breakfast this morning saying exactly this wasn't that long ago when maresa said Raheem you're important to me and you're important to this football but don't you get bored of rehashing this Half Baked line that's only of a conversation not really because it's factually correct it's not it's we have a situation maresa and Chelsea have changed their view of completely out of Contex they change their approach of it rahee you're in the naughty Corner he's not na you're staying there until you move that's the choice because as long as you say you ain't going to play but as long as people like you keep perpetuating that nonsense people are going to keep listening to it first of all he's not in a naughty step he hasn't done anything wrong he's just not required I don't's nowhere near the first team doesn't mean he's on an NTI step that means he's not fit for what they think they want him for which happens in every Walk of Life and every circumstance and and and the idea that what Mesa said in context as we have discussed 57 times if Mesa walked into a press conference and out of the blue announced that the entire world with no provocation whatsoever this player is really important and people could say it but if somebody asks him a question is Rahim Sterling an important player he has a choice he can be incredibly undiplomatic and cause absolute Mayhem by turning around and saying he's totally unimportant or he can say is important so he said he important so he took a but not that important because he getting shot of them fine but importance is all relative isn't it he's important to a certain point he's an important asset you're important up to a point yeah you're an important asset up to the gate there and when that gate lives you can go well your importance now moves into the fact we want to retain some commercial value in you so that's important the context of it could be is but if you want to frame it in such a a silly sentimental way not silly well no one's on a nauy step why is he on a nauy step it's not silly what's nauy step I'll tell you why well qualify the NA Step why is it view can't what you can't qualify the naughty step the naughty step you're not training with the ones who have a future when you put someone on nauy step because they done something wrong that not that recently not that to not that recently you were very much part of it because you're important now you're not so it's down to you to get out it's a ridiculous conversation but it when it comes down to it why is it viewed acceptable for the club to force a player out I just described it for you but because it's done to money because they ping them but they haven't forced him out he has a choice he's got two choices to stay and earn his money or maybe prove them wrong and fight his way back how about those two conundrums he's not going to do that Pro prove your maybe stay and prove you're worth a a place in the team the moment the transfer window closes you're not going to get minutes right and what's the club going to do the CL the club's going to pay the club's going to pay him1 1.2 million pounds a month to do nothing so what a wonderful little world for R Sterling but the club offered him those correct and those are the terms the club club and the club are prepared so so the club so so if these performances are so dire would you still be advocating for him to be part of the team you you would agree with me that the club to a large extent has put Raheem sing in a corner here they boxed him in well how well move or rot in the reserve move or rot in that group that are not going to feature or or accept the reality of various opportunities that are out there we'll try and engineer the best opportunity for you we don't think two years ago we thought you were something that you aren't you aren't for us going for forward we're quite prepared to meet our obligations but in the real world we don't think you're going to play on the team now if that's okay for you then we'll accept our responsibilities if it's not okay for you then how do we find a solution amongst ourselves it doesn't involve being put on a naughty step it doesn't involve um half-baked Nuance conversations that aren't all qualified in the full length and breadth of what was said a a little lifted quote thrown in to constantly weaponize the argument right Rahim Sterling is not on any naughty step he's simply not somebody that they think is not is good enough he got no choice now though has he well he's got every choice he can sit there and wait for the January transfer window and he can also he can also put a transfer request him he can also say to Chelsea he's not going to do that why he's not going to do that but why he's not going to agitate but why like the club's AG get on with the alternative's going to agitate so he doesn't want to be part of the solution in so your argument is is that Rahim Sterling should be able to stay at Chelsea and play in the first team even though the bloody manager doesn't want him to is that is that the Crux of your argument there's Neil in Plymouth Sammy you don't get it um you're happy to force a player out of a club who's under contract you don't care where he goes what he gets paid or how it affects his family heaven forbid a player what am I social worker employ club and wants to go mid contract you you just don't want to lose good players it all comes down to how good and important the player actually is I agree with that final line yes in the eyes of Marisa yes of course it does in the eyes of of any sign individual but he's got no choice so we so we get a useless buffoon in and because we want to make sure that his mental well-being is okay we keep in the side by that logic the man's a fool if he was in his football club he'd probably be saying something different the bottom line is all that's happened is that Raheem Sterling's shelf life has expired for two reasons I suspect one they're paying him a lot more money than they should have paid him in the first place but they wouldn't have got him if they didn't play him and now they've got buyer regret and I accept that as a principle so the club expects a player to honor his contract but the player shouldn't expect that in Reverse but they are because if if Chelsea can't get him away they're going to honor his contracts there wasn't it didn't say in his contract if it says in his contract you will play 38 games every single season come rain or shine they' be breaching his contract but it doesn't say that it says Rahim Sterling will get paid £350,000 a week and get selected if the manager wants to and in the meantime what happens now Ram Sterling can easily find a solution he can say look I accept the writings on the wall so here's what I'm going to do I'm going to facilitate an outcome for us all I'll put a transfer request in I'll accept a restructured deal like everybody else does and I'll go play my football but he doesn't want to do that because it will be about money right so let's have it right so Chelsea's about money Rahim Sterling's about money when does it become about football when does it become about football chelse have made a football decision in my view they don't think the kid is good enough more full them for signing him and they've got to meet their obligation for the next three years because if he sits on his backside like Winston Bogard did all those years ago for roban Abramovic he'll get paid as we described the other day I supect numerically incorrectly he'll get 70 million pounds for the next three years not bad work if you can get it or he can take his poor maligned backside off somewhere else and get equally as much money probably somewhere else because there'll be no transfer fee involved or some sort of solution that enables the Raheem Sterling to progress I wonder if if if if there's ever a line in his contract incidentally Raheem if it starts going peer shape for you you you'll be training on your own well there's no line in any contract telling him where he's going to train in the first place no no no no oh he didn't expect this to come about he didn't expect this situation to arise no he didn't and now he's in it you think that ultimately the the first team manager can train 42 players in because he says he can't so the fact that rahem Sterling Falls outside the predominant 21 and they can only train 21 players setting up for a match day what would you have them do set up another coaching Network that it doesn't involve the first team manager but involves a shadow first team manager that coaches the disenfranchised players maybe it wasn't the best idea to sign 42 players or maybe the reality of football is you trade them in and out okay rahee maybe out there tomorrow we shall see will it be a swap deal with Sancho uh involving Manchester United we shall see we shall see then but that is then this is now it's quarter past 11 e e talk sport traffic and travel with myar cooling and heating find an easier route to win heat recovery vrf projects British Masters and started the Ry cup qualification campaign and it is the young Finn Sammy valy Mar's had a very good year on the DP World Tour who's setting the early Pace pretty decent conditions uh in front of good galleries for the opening day he's at four underpar and making a good start uh it to trying to win this important tournament on the DP World Tour um which has been presented by S Nick falo now later on this afternoon tyell hen will be teeing it up obviously player who applies his trade now on the Liv tour but due to a loophole is able to Tee It Up he'll be going out just after 1:00 as will the Ridder Cup captain Luke Donald is also in action here this week but as I say it's the Finn Samy valy Mari who is leading the way rert thank you very much indeed as I said we're off to Saudi Arabia or at least the snooker players are uh because tomorrow the Saudi Arabian snooker Masters the inaugural Saudi Arabian snooker Masters Simon gets underway and of course like everything in life and we've spoken about this since we came on here this morning at 10:00 is really all about money isn't it the Saudi Arabia snooker Masters is now a world ranking event it will feature a prize pool of over2 million it's the biggest tournament ever staged outside the UK and the event in Riyad will boast a 2.3 million pound prize fund closely in line with the games annual Cru bow World Championships including the same 500,000 winners check um the Saudis are saying it's to develop snooka and uh pool in the region over the next decade or or so the rning snooker world champion is kyen Wilson and he joins us live Karen good morning to you how do you feel about playing your trade out there in Rian yeah good morning guys um listen I'm I'm you know always thrilled to be going out to new destinations it's a place that I've never gone to play snooka before so um it's just sort of showing how much the game is expanding worldwide and yeah I'm really looking forward to the new challenge did it's a simple question Ken did snooker need this yeah I believe so I think you know snook rout in China in particular is huge and we have about sort of five or six events out there a year now so um we can't just keep relying on China all of the time so um to expand to the Middle East you know we used to have tournaments out in uh Dubai and Bahrain so hopefully that Sparks more interest across those sorts of territories with the new Saudi Arabia Masters Simon it it seems to be quite a simple um course of events here if the sis want a sport and certainly want involvement in that sport then they'll get it well I mean they have every right to be involved in terms of no sport is owned specifically and explicitly by any region and so if the Saudis want to participate in a sport and we know how they'll participate they'll participate economically um and so with that in mind the snooker players themselves place professional snooker for two things for achievement and for the fact it's their professional career and that's what pays them and so them playing in these tournaments and the opportunity to generate more money as a result of it is in course of course a Natural Evolution the fact that it's been that Saudis are using sport as a way to connect with the next generation of their you know Muhammad bin Salan is very keen to make sure that his subjects understand the direction he goes in the young subjects are very indexed to Sport and snooker is a brilliant Sport and brings different eyes to the prize and so I don't see there will be people that get on the human rights issue and the the image laundering which imparted is of but that's got nothing to do with Kieran and playing in a world snooker tournament that has significant repute and great reward as the reigning world champion that's what he would do and that's what he should do is is the sport of snooker in a good place at the moment Karen in terms of eyes on your sport yeah absolutely I think as I mentioned before especially out in China it seems you know ever since the covid pandemic has um you know thankfully passed in terms of putting sport to a to a halt um it seems like the first for snooker in you know many territories has has gone through the roof you know we're seeing more and more prize money pumped into the sport um more and more tournaments pumped into the sport you know I'm actually I'm currently out in Dubai where um you know a hotel out here of completely welcomed me and my family um because they're huge snooker fans um that's not the only reason but um you know I'm going to be practicing a snooker Academy out here and then heading off to the Saudi Arabia masters from here so yeah it's great you know snooker's becoming more and more worldwide Kiren how do you feel when the inevitable question comes landing on your doorstep about Sportsman's participation in a region that has strong human rights issues in terms of the in which they behave the issues toward LG LGBT community and all of that stuff we see it in other sports we've seen it in the live golf tour with Phil Mickelson coming out and telling everybody that it's to regenerate the area how do you feel that question is put to you what's your answer to that yeah it's obviously tough isn't it it's not a question you know anybody really wants to be faced with um you know from my point of view I have two young children to feed um you know plenty of bills sort of up coming my way and you know I just want to play snoer I want to go and see new fans I want to see new territories so you know when wst the world snook tour put on an event you know wherever that be um you know they deem it safe for us for the players to go over and compete there you know there's um you know the 12 times uh female World Snooker champion in ranne Evans I've seen her on Instagram that she's just traveled over there so um you know we have to obviously look at that and she feels safe enough to go over there and compete so um I think what it is think what is Kiren people object to the nonsense if this was if this tournament was if you were going over there and being offered 50 Grand you wouldn't go play in this tournament because it wouldn't be as meaningful and there's nothing wrong with that what people find a little bit unpalatable is when they hear people like I suggested Phil Mickelson and other people talking about the fact that they're going there because it's about regenerating the area being an influence being someone of meaningful Dev to develop it when really it's all about the money there's nothing wrong with that cuz you're a professional Sportsman the motivation here is because it's a very highly paid and rewarding tournament isn't it yeah absolutely it's you know it's on par with the snooker World Championships this year in terms of prize money so um you know I'm not in a position where I can turn down that sort of opportunity to go and perform out there so um you know I can't really comment I've never been out to that side of the world before in my life so I wouldn't want to um you know sort of put any negative on it um until I've gone out there and seen it for myself and and been out there and explored um you know I'm sure that will make my own mind up but you know being a current world snooker Champion as well I feel like I've got a bit of a Duty especially this season to sort of be a good Ambassador for the sport yeah and and you're right to think that I think you're right though that that did you win when you won the world you won 500 Grand the same check awaits a winner of the the competition in Saudi right yes exactly ly the same prize poll I believe I think right throughout all of the stages not just the first prize it's the same as the the world championship so you know we want to be part of progressing this sport even further throughout the years and we need more tournaments like this where the prize money is going to compete with the world championship so hopefully other hosts come in and they want to compete even more and it just boosts the popularity of the sport is is the worry longer term to finish with Ken that all eyes will move towards a region like the one going to and away from the lights of The Crucible in other words what I'm asking you is The Crucible days are they numbered I really hope not um you know I've I've been dreaming of becoming a world super Champion since I was six years old um thankfully I've been able to lift that world title in that Arena uh before that decision has been made you think of the greats like Alex Higgins Steve Davis Steven Hendry um they all lifted it with the Starlight curtain at Bru bu I've managed to do that um and I hope I get to do it again for many more years I think the ideal scenario would be it expands um the prize money becomes more and more because I think there is demand for more people to come and watch live snooker G good to speak you good luck in the event in Saudi Arabia um I am told you're a big Chelsea fan do you hope Ivan Tony comes through your door at Stanford Bridge while you're own sodi absolutely um yeah I know Ivan he's actually is from my sort of area in Northampton sh so um he actually come to watch me at the snooker Masters in um Alexandre Palace a couple of years ago so yeah I'm praying he goes to Chelsea we need him okay H Karen thank you very much indeed Karen Wilson no less a reigning snooker world champion heading to Saudi Arabia um it is 11:30 we're going to talk boxing in a bit e e e e on 1089 and 1053 medium wave [Music] that's right we're joined by Shawn Martin from MGM we're going to look at today's top sporting events discuss the latest odds around them Sean good morning to you mate um The caribo Cup last night what do you make of it morning guys yep um I suppose the Premier League teams competing in Europe entering the competition now makes it very very newsworthy despite the new seeding complication that you spoke about earlier it has thrown up a few potential crackers H not least Coventry versus Tottenham in a repeat of the 87 FA Cup Final elsewhere lowest placed team left in the competition in Fleetwood Town travel to stoke AFC wimbledon's reward for beating ipswitch is to host Newcastle holders Liverpool a potentially tough one with West Ham going to anfield and lastly a word for Barrow who will travel down to London with seven new signings this window five of which for three transfers to take on Chelsea and they're 200 million pound worth of Summer reinforcements Chelsea Jim for what it's worth a 10 to one3 Joint favorites to LIF The League Cup alongside Liverpool and Newcastle they're they're all behind Man City at 11 to4 and Arsenal at 8 to1 Aston Villa and man united they're at 14s you can get Spurs at 16s and then You' get the likes of West Ham at 18 to1 Brighton at 20s and Simon Crystal Palace out there at 28s 28s would you be tempted little sentimental bet no okay um what about the weekend I know there's one big one north of the Border but what are you thinking H yeah d t will'll look at the weekend card in a bit more detail and of course get your golden goals predictions tomorrow but yeah the two standouts are surely both on Sunday gym with Celtic against Rangers at parkhead followed by Man United versus Liverpool at 4m. down at Old Trafford Liverpool can't really afford to drop points even this early on if they're looking for a title challenge I'd suggest well Eric tenh likewise can't particularly afford to go one one win from three to start the season up here Rangers already dropped points against Hearts so Celtic win it moves them Five Points clear of them already all that leads me to ask which do each of you reckon is the most meaningful full match this weekend between the two good question I I I think from a Scottish point of view and for the very way you've just described it Rangers have got to go there even this early in the season and get something at Celtic Park I that's the way I would see it Sean they've absolutely got to go there and get something believe in themselves well meaning for all relative isn't it I mean ultimately Man United and Liverpool are teams that are aspiring to be at the top end of the Premier League Liverpool expiring to win it perhaps man United's trying to get back into the top four you've got two Dutch managers in the T out so the meaningful nature of that situation is there's going to be Compares and contrasts directly afterwards biggest game in Scottish Football is Rangers versus Celtic it's diminished by the fact that they don't let fans in there so some of the meaningfulness of the game goes away yeah I I would say probably of the two games the more meaningful is probably Celtic versus Rangers because of the sheer scale and um Dynamic of that particular rivalry yeah any La odds on those two fixtures for us Sean yeah so well given Celtic won four and Drew one of the five Derby meetings last season Brandon Rogers has a tremendous record in Derby and the Hoops have lost just once at home domestically since January 2021 they're understandably favorites at 3 to 5 you can get a draw at 3 to1 and Rangers have actually been hovering around the the 4 to1 Mark H which across the last three Derbies that we've come on here to discuss with you guys is clearly the longest price we've quoted for either either team in this match regardless of venue H down at Old Trafford Liverpool also go in as odds on favorites at 5 to six a draw again just under 3 to one there and United to win at 11 to4 the heads to heads with those two last season came out at two draws and a win a piece so very quickly if you wanted to double up on the two biggest games of the weekend it's currently just under two to one for both Celtic and Liverpool to win a draw in both games is 15s i' dread to ponder it but an underdog double of Rangers and United to win is 16s and I've got to say my own fancy is a draw down at Old Trafford and Celtic to win the Derby up here which is five and a half to one Jim okay Sean what do you think sammon you you you've gone yeah I think I think that's probably the bet I was putting a bet on that's the bet I'd put on which is Celtic winning and a draw at Old Trafford a draw at Old Trafford and the Tour Championship at East Lake Sean the end of the FedEx Cup golf yep top 30 in the FedEx Cup money leaders in the field at East Lake today and it's worth noting that they're placing in those rankings gives the players starting stroke advantages Jim so money leader Scott Sheffer for instance starts on 10 under second in the Mander schle starts on eight under third place hii matuyama on S under and so on and so on H Sheffer is the 11 to 10 favorite but better value could actually be taking him to win without those starting Strokes which is a market that we offer for this he's 15 to4 in that one Victor hovland won this last year starting at eight under H in that position as I've said is shley this year and he's 9-4 or 4 to one to Wi without the starting Strokes elsewhere Rory mroy is going for a record extending fourth FedEx Cup he starts on four under meaning he's 18s to win at all outright or tends to win without the starting strokes and finally L ludvig abber tied second at the the BMW last week he starts five Strokes behind Sheffer here but notably he finished 12 shots ahead of him last week so 20 to1 stranger things have happened Jim Sean good man top work from you thank you visit BM gm. co.uk or download the app morning here in London let's head down the road to Lord second test England Sri Lanka John yes it's just starting to heat up a little here as well England 38 for one there were some eyebrows raised when at the toss Sri Lankan Captain Dan and J de Silva decided to bowl first um well I can't say it's paid off but they have made their first inroad into this England batting lineup uh Dan Lawrence standing opener perceive weakness outside the off stump which is not really what you want as what you want as an opener coming down the track to uh Kamar and uh really playing at the ball that he should and could have left alone nine times out of 10 the outside edge was taken the battle was on the move and that's an ugly looking dismissal so uh an early breakthrough for Sri Lanka just as the pressure just started to be mounting a little on that decision to bowl first first England have lost their first Wicket here Ducket on 20 pope new to the crease one on out England 39 for one John thank you very much indeed Simon you and I disappear into the afternoon at 1:00 an hour after that we're going to find out who made it and who didn't when Lee carsley um begins his certainly interim interim reign as the man in charge of England he announces his first squad for the upcoming Nations League games um of course Finland the opponents what do you think I I know what's coming back at me here are you in any way excited about what he may or may not do regards Squad announcement here um no I'm curious I'm not I'm not excited because I don't think he's going to I don't think revolutions start at for tilt so if we're expecting a revolution from him I think we'll be probably misguided I mean there isn't a lot wrong with the team besides the way that they were asked to play because we cannot take these domestic successes that are flying in every League that they play in every side that they play in and look at them and re and recognize them when they're playing for their country at certain times there's certain parts of the game where you can see the similar traits they that make us so infused by them when we're watching on a week by week month-by-month basis in domestic football so I don't feel that there's that much that needs to be changed besides the way that we're going to play I wrote about it in my column all I hope for from Lee Carley if he actually end up getting the job is he has the balls to play front foot football against bigger sides because we' got the players we believe we've got the players if these players ain't any good why are Real Madrid signing them and why are teams like Man City buying them and playing them in the best team and I know that they're playing with other players mixes of all parts of the world but our players offensively were considered to be the the ones to watch out for in this tournament in the euros and we didn't see it now whether that's cuz Kane wasn't fit and whole ra of things that go on with Kane but I I don't I don't expect him to break an omelette no to make up to break eggs to make an omet I don't expect to see Harry Kane jeterson and Dean rice made the captain no right or Ben White coming in well he doesn't he doesn't Merit it no shap well should carsley be judged as interim or the next England manager in Waiting look I if I if I if I knew the mindset of the fa I'd work out how to be bone Idol and do nothing of any substance I don't know what their mindset is is but I would suggest that there's a a significant indication that they've been this route before it in their minds has worked out well in lots of people's minds getting to quarterfinals semi-finals and two European championships and using losing the bleeding lot every time is real real progress and wonderful to look at um so they'll see that as a blueprint that's worked they'll look at Spain and say well they can do it over there ignoring the culture differences and the attitude and Outlook and a composition of the playing Squad and say what we can do over here so I think it's his to get I think it's his to get if he goes and plays in against the republic Ireland and the fins and perhaps the Greeks if they extend to that period of time and all of those results go the way that they bloody will should so his mission is to be more frontf footed I mean have a team that's more Fran food well his mission must be more of the same because they wanted to keep G Southgate wasn't it they weren't they weren't unhappy with the start of play so with that in mind depends who's who's defining his mission if you and I as the viewing public not so much you as a Scot but me as an English man watching the english team play I would suggest I want to see an entertaining side that puts it upon the opposition and asks a lot of questions and plays the kind of football that most people enjoy um watching when it's when it's been played by Spain or being played by other teams that play on the front foot and exhausting the potential of the players and realizing that we've exhausted the potential and we're good enough or exhausted the potential and we're not good enough and we can accept that so it depends who's asking him if the nation is asking him they'll be saying pick up the slack from where we got to and make this more exciting and entertaining and make us something to be feared and not some not someone that spends their entire time worrying about what the opposition is going to do listening to International managers describe how difficult it was to break down the triangle of play that Switzerland put together cobblers if you're on the front foot and you're the team in ascendency let the opposition worry about you okay so that's why I hope for from Lee Carley and maybe he'll be there and maybe he won't um Ryan is very brave and cheeky today here we go brexit Jordan that must be you thinks Ben White doesn't Merit a place in the England squad because he Dar to turn down a previous call up Ben White is the best right back in the league carsley would be a fool to leave him out I think that's his entirely entitled to his view first of all what bre has got to do I have no idea um but that's what they do is they throw little monikas at you because they can discredit your argument my argument is my argument is not about brexit Ryan my argument is about whether somebody didn't have the character to overcome the challenges that he had whilst playing for England turned his nose up at playing them should be rewarded by being brought back into the ultimate privilege of representing your country I think that's not right I think you should have the substance and the character to represent the honor that there is and to overcome the adversity that you may have experienced which made you want to be excluded from England squads maybe maybe it was he didn't go on with somebody within the old regime and now this is a clean slate and sure I'll get my all but maybe he's shown a characteristics which isn't admirable if if the only people that we can work with or the only people that we can uh uh relate to are the ones that we like and the ones whose opinions we agree with then we're a pretty pathetic myopic one-dimensional character sort of society that's why people are constantly in arguments because they can't accept someone else's point of view you might not like someone else's point of view but when you throw monikas around like brexit Jordan what's that got to do with my argument about Ben White is he a is he not a European Citizen and so he shouldn't be playing for England buffoon you're going to insult me insult me about my argument not about what my political leadings might be I told you Ryan you were going to get it where where Ryan is right though that he's if he's not the best down as well that annoys me as well he's amongst the best right backs in the Premier League if not the best so why not pick him but but part of that also disag I don't disagree with the fact that that he's a very capable football player yeah but also part of it is character isn't it is substance of going in the trenches and knowing that the person next to you will come over the over the wall with you that fell he's too busy laying on a suned brushing his hair and pulling his shorts up around his butt cheeks oh maybe maybe maybe there are those out there that thought he he showed a bit of character by saying no to England at that particular time and that's an alterate AR and even more character by saying include me if you want and that's fine that's that's an alternative it's not one I agree with I don't think that's character at all I think that's looking after yourself doesn't suit me bit hard didn't agree with that don't like the way been treated not having end of that that's that's that to me uh typifies the modern day expectation of a footballer can you imagine if some of these guys lived a day and age when they were actually told the truth about their shortcomings what would happen to them they'd all be they all they'd all be under sedation somewhere because he couldn't cope with it Gareth get three tournaments how many do you think carsley should get I don't know I don't know the measure of the man or the next manager if it's not him um I think the England managers should be based on a tournament by tournament what is the point of giving an England manager a job he goes to the next tournament which by the way we should qualify forget what happened in with McLaren and forget what happened with uh other managers like when Don Revy departed and Ron Greenwood couldn't get to the 78 World Cup and look at the here and now and say isn't The Business of Being at a tournament what an international manager is about because you should qualify look at the minnow we play in qualifying groups I mean it's a stroll up when we get to a tournament he should they should be judged upon the tournament if you go to a tournament and you're absolute crap why would you want to have him for another tournament just because you gave him that contract tournament by tournament yeah Merit Ryan tweeted you there didn't he brexit Jordan I just think people are Wes if you're going to if you're going to dismantle someone's argument why why why categorize them under a monik because you think that diminishes the person then what comes out of their mouth is no longer valid Ben I like it not Ben White but another Ben he's jumped on it brexit Boy hasn't taken that well has he Taste of his own medicine what medicine do I give out then I don't know I don't know anyway um what we do know is that pep has been very generous by scattering a few quid few thousands here and there uh amongst uh his first team staff we'll look talk sport a daily landscape of fire football and feuding towering opinion from two giants of sports broadcasting Jim White and Simon Jordan midm mornings on talk sport Simon Jordan's football business round up on talk Sport with Tesco Mobile for business join Tesco Mobile and get business phone bills for up to 40% less than the big mobile networks Tesco Mobile every little helps for applicable terms and verifications see Tesco mobile.com bus we're going to look at uh one specific top business story regarding Pep Guardiola in Manchester City with Tesco Mobile for business Simon this is intriguing um Pep Guardiola reportedly has given a bonus of £10,000 to each member of Manchester City's support staff it's understood the gift was recently received by every employee who works in the first team building at the club's training base 60 or 70 people work in the building including chefs receptionists physios kit men Baristas you tell me they make coffee indeed and security staff what you what's your take on that generous what is your take on that I mean you know when it comes to it you all say to US money talks You Know M money is s is such a big player uh in in football at all at all levels why is he done it we need to ask pep that question because only he can answer that but what do you think it does in terms of motivation what does it tell us more about pep well what it does it makes people feel very valued because it's you know it's something that doesn't have to be done Pep's chosen to do it from his 15 million pound a year salary so it's something he can do um but he doesn't have to do it and lots of other people get paid lots of money um I was always very keen in my time to make sure that staff got bonuses got rewards got recognition when we got promoted to the Premier League I wanted to make sure that everybody in the building not just the players got some sort of reward for the fact that the club had got promoted because that's what I believed in I built systems of of of of of development in people and pay reviews every year and performance related reviews that people could see where they're going in this instance and also be recognized and rewarded by it because I believe that fundamentally in that a business is as strong as its staff they're their biggest asset and sometimes their biggest liability and hopefully the biggest asset is what you try to achieve for them um in this instance pep is deciding upon himself you know to to give £10,000 to 50 different members of staff at the training ground um which I think is which I think is a there's no way you can find anything about it other than say it's good spirited yes of course someone earning 15 million a year giving away 3% of their salary um is not as generous as somebody giv a lot more in proportionate to the money that they own but it's irrelevant the man doesn't have to give anybody any money but these guys but these guys are also part if you're part of a team if you're part of an environment you are rewarded they're not going none of them are going to become shareholders in in Manchester City they're all only going to be salar to a certain point and then they've got to watch the absolute opulence of what arrives in the car park every single day for two hours um you know players getting in a Maserati or Ferrari whatever car they arrive in right all of that is by the by the the rewards for being Elite at what you do which predominantly Man City are and it's just Pep's way of saying to people you are part of this team and the lift and the motivation and the feel-good factor because I I suspect there's a psychological boost when everybody feels that they're really valued to whatever level to a guy being given 10 grand buy him buy him so so he has their loyalty because they're working in that environment for him they're all working for the city ownership but they are working specifically for they will believe for Pep Guardiola and so for Pep to have bought that loyalty to have turned around to them and said this is from me to you it's not from the ownership well it is because the ownership give him 15 million quid that we can afford to do it this is but this is from me this is me looking at you as a human being and as an individual and saying thank you and this spirit that we have that starts from the players walking through the dressing room into the training ground onto the field you are all part of they get well rewarded yeah thank you very much see there's quite a St contrast here in Manchester isn't there there's a message to prove it Jim Ratliff should take note here instead of hammering all the back room sa at United whilst rewarding underperforming players but the mess is there the sentiment isn't far off bonuses at city for non-playing staff redundancies for the same at Manchester United come on everybody knows there a matter of fact that this the the the fact that Radcliffe has gone in and looked at it and seen that it's a great big fat swollen Beast of underresourced people doing not enough work and that actually streaming it back to being effective we don't know the employment levels in Man City against the employment levels in Manchester United what we do know is what we have heard is that there was a lot of people deciding that they thought it best to work from home rather than be working at Manchester United and doing things effectively a lot of people that weren't being as effective as they should be and that's not just because you've got this ridiculous comparison between one manager not the club one manager that gets paid how about the profy of Manchester United of Man City to be paying prep guo 15 million quid in the first place let's pay Pep Guardiola 10 million quid or let's pay ten har less and give it no it's not how it works it's a silly comparison but the point is is that is that it's nothing to do with Manchester United being um uh skin flints and mean-spirited they've gone in there like you do in all football clubs you look around go well what are you doing well I do is I scratch my ass on morning look out the window well that's not very productive we'd like you to do something more than that no I'd rather work from home and do that okay fine you can go somewhere else s um and it's an element of going through it and rationalizing it and making people effective it's not about saving costs because man united is a very lucrative business that doesn't need to nickel and dime around a few people that are not working in their commercial Department who was your most generous manager you ever have a manager that did something none of them are generous oh yeah sorry with their money or not many with my money very generous I found them to be the most generous people with money I was so pleased to go there on Friday evenings and watching them sign off big drinks bills for whoever they wanted that was always their generosity astounded said a moment ago that this is money that pep is paid by the hierarchy of Manchester City so it's kind of the same you paid your managers was there one specific manager no who was generous with that money you paid him to whom to the players to to to the staff yeah on a similar basis to this well there would always be this um my great Delight was Finding players when they didn't do something and I thought that was money back for me but it wasn't it was just redistributed back into the players and to the Christmas parties or to the staff what was the biggest fine you ever imposed on a player I think i' you can only you can only employ you can only impose a certain level when I wanted to impose enormous fines on players for doing things ad aimay you I sent him off useless couldn't Cow's Ass with the banjo and break does his knee send him off to the most expensive surgeon that I didn't have to comes back hasn't been fit for about the best part of a year supposed to go and do an opening of an event which is on the roster been told week out two weeks out been told a week out Been Told day doesn't turn up so I wanted to find him quite significantly but you're only allowed to find them in find him in two we blocks where did you find him I don't know I think he was on 20 grand a week or something so I find him 40 Grand something which he didn't like he didn't like and and he tried to enlist the help of that clown college of the PFA no well okay anyway uh when it's all down to it Well Done pep around 60 or 70 people uh in the city at man Manchester in the building at Manchester City including chefs receptionists and physios 10 grand nice gesture nice Gest well done how about anyone through there in the manage in the world of management here at impetuously into the studio to join us for the next hour Mr Oliver it is great to see you um we've been missing you how are you very very well yet it's um been a while hasn't it it has been a while and um I've had a little time a little break I've been away at the Olympics which was amazing by the way yes that was a great event come back went to New York called my good lady Nicola for a week and now I'm back staring at Simon fantastic how how good does it get right I believe in mayorca you could see across the water you could see into his window in his house and you could see him bloody telecope I was in my bear like like over here he has his hairdresser visit him at home to to to do his uh his hair uh the hairdresser comes to him he doesn't go to them Spencer it is good to speak to you are you excited about the weeks ahead in the world of boxing I really am yeah I can't wait for it if I'm totally honest September the 21st obviously it's going to be a huge night of boxing Anthony Joshua Daniel are going head-to-head all British world heavyweight title fighting a brilliant undercard as well and uh you know we've got that October the 12th that huge show out there as well so so much going on right now yeah so much so we're going to speak to the chief executive boxer Ben Shalom who joins us live Ben good afternoon to you um the the card the fight card on the 12th of October in Riad Saudi Arabia has got some phenomenal fights on it I mean Simon We Know Better BV is going to fight on that of course against Dimitri bival that apart though Ben we're going to see Eubank Jr on The Bu we're going to see wardley Fraser Clark on the bill we're going to see Ben whttiger one of your Fighters This really does wet the appetite does it not it's absolutely crazy Jim good afternoon by the way but I have never seen so many main events on one bill I know people will talk about I think they're being spoiled for choice now there's there's huge fights happening all the time courtesy of Riad season but this is did I ever think Eubank Jr wardley quar two which could have been box office people will argue could have been box office in his own right Ben Whitaker who I believe is uh is is the future of British boxing Jack Massie stepping up and taking on a world champion all amongst other huge huge night H huge fights with Shakur Stevenson on as well but then that main event as well it's boxing gone crazy it really has I think yes people are getting used to it and probably don't remember how unprecedented this is but uh yeah October 12th is is is pretty special and of course I mean SP what it does tell us is that Ben and boxer are involved with Saudi Arabia um what why did it take so long Ben well you'd have to ask all the promoters that were trying to stop us getting in but um no I'm only joking I think at the end of the day um what is so fascinating but amazing about what they're doing in Riad season is they're not buying into anyone there's no they won't get involved in politics they're not going to take sides they're not going to block fights they're not going to say this isn't happening they do what they want and that means they put on the fights that they want and they put on the fighters that are going to bring the biggest attention to their shows and uh I think it's refreshing I think it's it's amazing of course to be involved in boxing at this at this point I think in truth this was all any boxing fan ever wanted and uh yeah delighted to to to be in this era of boxing and obviously October 12 as you mention four four huge fights for different reasons for for Boxer Fighters and uh yeah huge night ahead yeah I think the only winner here Ben is the boxing fans isn't it you talked about that with rad season working with all the promoters taking the politics away from the sport in many ways with you know pay-per-view splits who was getting what with it breakdown of fights and obviously going on different TV stations as well was always a problem but now that has all changed and the only winner now are the boxing fans yeah the fans and the fighters the fans it's to have September 21st coming up in the UK obviously Josh batti has has a has a fight that we've been a world intering fight that we've been waiting for a long time then have October 12 amongst everything that's happened this year is is phenomenal but the fighters as well Tyler Denny and Jack mie I cannot tell you one year ago we're sort of working out how do we how do we get a route for these guys how can we get them active how where is where's this opportunity coming from so we invested in them we found ways for their route to the European title it's it's uncanny how sort of similar what's happened is they've managed to to come through some big tests Jack Massie after after losing to Jose Parker gone on a run in the cruiserweight division back at its division Tyler Denny as well won the European title created a name for themselves and then got this huge lifechanging payday both of them um so it's yeah it's the fans but it's the fighters as well and and it really is changing lives there are those who will say though like a Great British fight such as Fabio wardley going in against frer Clark again should be here should be in the UK for British fight fans what would you say to that B I look I do sympathize I've had some uh some some messages about the some nice some not so nice um about why wardley Clark isn't in the UK it would have sold out any Arena we were planning for it to happen at the end of August ultimately and I've seen it being talked about a lot when the fighters are offered and I don't think it's going to happen off like I do think we're in an adjustment phase I don't think this is I think the promoters are adjusting as much as anyone else to right some fights are going to go there we've got to make sure we still have the big nights in British boxing I think ultimately you look at that first fight how much it took out of them they're getting it on earlier than anyone could have expected after what they went through at the end of March and then when they're offered um money that even a successful pay-per-view perhaps won't guarantee them you know you you you can't blame them in those situations do what I hope is that fans do understand it is adjusting they're still going to be the big nights here and I do sympathize you know wardley Clark it's a Brit if there's ever a British fight it's worldy Clark very well you answered it well do you think British fight fans are coming around to this idea now s that almost inevitably some of the big Fighters going to go out there and they're going to they're going to go to Saudi because that's where they get yeah I mean see great cards but great money there'll be an argument that they that they would like to see on the undercard of the September 21st fight with AJ and du Wembley which may well be a reasonable argument I mean the go to Ben's opportunities the reasons why Ben's now in the in in the mix is because he's got a meaningful stable of Fighters that are alluring to the Saudis that was his objective as the newest Promoter on the block with the blue chip the Blue Chip broadcast that everyone wants to work with Ben's job was to get the best fight cards that he possibly can he starts with bti against Willie Hutchinson that opens the door and now you've got ultimately the boxer card in October the 12th with a heart we know of an array of very attractive names but to go to your question about the British fighter fans given the crap that we've listened to for last two or three years about fights not being able to be made right now in the here and now people are just pleased that they are being made the narrative will move uh eventually that they would like to see a few of them being made in England and a few more being made in England but they are so you know the argument I originally had which is we cannot just allow the agenda of the Saudis to utilize sport for their own opportunities and and what they want from it to to just you know to diminish what's happening in British boxing but right now that's not the case they're putting events in the UK okay they're opening the doors Fighters are getting paid a lot of money to be able to make to to be able to be in these fights we'll see how the landscape sort of Peters down when the Saudi start saying yeah well we want to return on this money because right now it's just they're just throwing money at it with no real commerciality behind it and I think that you know you're saying it's a shame that we don't get this Walley Clark fight you know happening again in England well we saw the first one here and Simon we've had this conversation before when you were talking about the mecca of boxing being out in Las Vegas and all the big fights going over there no one really said anything about that ultimately it is prize fighting and these two guys left it all in the ring last time they boxed in that fight in that in that draw and you go they deserve to be paid and that's where they're going to get paid so you got to understand that and the fight fans are winning from it the only thing I'll would say back to that and you're right Spencer is that the the mecca of boxing no one argued when Frank Bruno went to fight Mike Tyson for the world heavyweight title when you're fighting for the British title or you're fighting at a domestic level which these are fighting at getting paid well that doesn't negate the argument you just put forward which is we all accepted the Mecha of boxing but that wasn't for our domestic Fighters Ben stay with us we're going to take a quick break and we'll be back with you benon with us live e e e e talk fighting Daniel Dubois next month but the focus of our attention at the moment is this incredible bill of fights over in Saudi Arabia which is very much on the horizon as well taking place in October and of course talk sport will be all over at one of those fights Ben Whitaker against Liam Cameron uh joining Simon myself and Spencer Oliver this lunchtime is promoter boxer chief executive Ben Shalom uh Ben is funned right at the same time there um Spencer Oliver and myself both received text messages from one Billy Joe Saunders who's saying come on what about my man Lou Edmonson why Ben have you not get him fighting Ben wher on this bill in um in Riyad Saudi Arabia what do you want to say to that look it's a good question and Louis Emerson's a a great fighter and a great lad and someone I like a lot and he's I'm sure that that fight does happen down the line and I want to see Louie's career developed regardless of of Ben wh I think for me Liam Cameron say what you want about Ben wha that is a huge step up to to do this after coming back seeing Liam Cameron take Lyndon after the distance lose on a think it was a split decision Spence on on channel five headlining yeah I mean Ben whiter who's still still widely considered a prospect to take a fight like this it's a it's a huge test and credit for Riad season again for for for getting it done as well is there any truth in in um Ben Wier declining to fate Edmonson look I think Ben clearly wants the biggest nights the biggest fights the biggest pay days I believe he's seen Liam Cameron and thought Liams boxed at a higher level than me he's looking at a higher level I want to prove myself I I've got a measuring State I can see Lyn and Arthur this is a test this is something where I can prove how good I really am but what I'm getting at Ben is that Whitaker hasn't ducked Edmonson here Whitaker will fight anyone but it has to make sense for him Whitaker is looking up as every fight does and saying who's the next name who's the next fight that's going to increase my pedigree increase my resume so of course he's going to have Fighters calling him out whether it's Louis Edmonson but every day he has Fighters calling him out so he is that guy and it's going to be like that for the next couple of years and and he'll take the fights that make most sense for his development listen I think Louie Emon is a great fighter and that is a good fight down the road for Ben Whitaker and I'm sure that fight will happen but for Ben Whitaker to step up and fight Liam Cameron now you've got to give him props for that because that is a huge step up yes Ben is the Golden Boy turning over and and the one that everyone's talking about but Liam Cameron is no pushover he pushed um Lyndon ARA to a split decision last time out he's a former Commonwealth Champion very much on a high at the moment and it's a huge huge step up for um Ben Whitaker for sure look it was on his hit list and I was a bit you know when he said I want Liam Cameron next you know as a promoter with with with a talent like Ben and knowing that I want him to develop and knowing I want him to headline he's another headline to show yet I thought this was a this was this was a huge indicator of of where we're going and um yeah I think I think October 12 is is going to show a lot about how good Ben Whitaker is and credit to Liam Cameron because he has been through the mill rightly or wrongly had a long time out of the sport and has come back worked hard and got a huge opportunity and he will come game as anything and and looky to take Ben Whitaker's head off Ben Eubank Jr Chris Eubank Jr fights his fellow Camille zaretta but but is there not a bigger challenge out there for him is there not a world title challenge out there for him Ben under your good self yeah I've seen a lot of this um obviously he's a huge name there's a lot of opinions around what he does when he does it who he fights and rightfully so he's never he's never won a World title and his talent deserves to win a world title with with with hard work you have to just look at it plain and simple he's at his age he needs activity he's been out the ring nearly a year I still think this is a good fight to come back to a guy that's only lost to M and Golovkin a guy that's coming to win a guy that's going to stick it on him and to be honest I'm just so grateful that he's back in the ring one of the biggest stars in British boxing this is going to give him the momentum the platform to take those big fights to take the big fights on his terms and uh yeah I think people have to understand when you've been out of the ring a year you're going to want to get back in and I think this is a good test and I think to be honest British boxing fans should be happy we have we have Chris Eubank Jr back do you think Eubank Jr should be doing bigger things than this yeah I do but I understand the reasons why he isn't I understand the reasons why he hasn't taken the potential offer of the Canelo fights that was potentially in the makings because your best version of yourself and if you're going to go in and try and win a world title that's what your motivation if your motivation is to get paid to play some more poker on tell that's all about Las Vegas Villa then you can go in and fight Canelo and lose and pick also just on what Simon said there a lot of Fighters probably would just take Canelo on six weeks notice for for the money that they shouldn't get Chris wants to win that fight he's going into fights to win he's ambitious he's not coming for like I think people think baby he's he's so money hungry it doesn't make sense no if he was that money hungry and that desperate for money he'd take a few million and he' go and fight Canelo on six weeks notice and not be prepared he want to double dip in Saudi by taking an easy fight get get get get his star shining in Saudi and get paid twice for being in yeah but but I think that you know what what Ben's saying there is you know when you fight someone like Canelo to a fight of that magnitude you go you want to be best prepared for that especially at Eubank stage of his career what is he 34 years of age he's in the Twilight he been scratching his ass for 12 months yeah no but what I'm saying is you have to be best he's only been given 6 weeks notice the fight hadn't he's been doing nothing for 12 months what does that matter though when you only get six weeks notice you go the choice is you could have had plenty of two up fights during that there's reasons for behind the scenes you know people have their own issues there's reason why he's not boxed not because he doesn't want to box and so I think he wants to go into Canelo fight to win and and and that's the plan and this will prepare him for for the big Knights he's not going in there to live and and he wants to be paid properly when he when he's get when he's getting offered more money for other fights other than Canelo you have to have alarm Bells Canelo is the the biggest fight in boxing a boxer Chris Eubank brings the Charisma and brings some heat and some noise and it's good and it's good for Ben as for for boxing he's gone in twice against World title holders and he's lost both times so he's lost to Billy Joe Saunders he's lost to George grov unless there's a created opportunity or a created opportunity I don't see Chris Ubank Jr winning a world title and I certainly don't see him winning a world title against Canelo but to give him an opportunity if indeed he wants that opportunity rather than endlessly listing out the fact he wants to fight uh Canelo or he wants to fight Connor Ben or he wants to fight this person and never actually having these fights to get the best version of him he does need a few more fights is there an argument Ben as Simon is suggesting that Eubank Jr is to a degree marking time no absolutely not I think Chris has his biggest spikes ahead of him when when when Simon talks about every time he stepped up he's was let's just break that Billy Joe S Billy Joe Saunders that fight was early on in his career it was a very close fight Billy Joe Joe is a is an unbelievably talented fighter and Chris came on very strong towards the end of that fight it was extremely close George Gro was at Super middleweight George Gro was at Super middleweight at 168 against a very very big man and a very very close fight yes he's lost twice in in in situations that played out he wouldn't have come through and he lost Liam a light middle he's he's then he's then made up for that and and and I think chrisan J is a phenomenal talent I believe he will he will win a world title I think we're going to see his biggest fights over the next 18 months always fight fans getting in touch with us while we're on air no name on this one what top fighter like Eubank Jr takes a warm-up fight none he's he's not a top fighter he's said Ben shalom's pants down here for a big purse it's an easy fight the rest his history I mean many people are thinking I think along similar lines to Simon get him in there for the big ones now he's been around long enough you know get get him in there but you're saying he's got reasons for taking the fight that he's taking in October I think look it's it's disrespectful to call Zer Mata a warm-up fight this is a this is a guy as I said that's taken that's taken two losses in his career to Golovkin and mongia I think it's a good fight it's not the big name that we want to see him in with and we will see him in with but as I say he's had a lot going on he's been out the ring in over 12 months I'm glad to see him back because it means we're going to get the big facts Ben does the road map for Chris Eubank Jr see him boxing for a world title within the next 12 months yes but equally and and I'm just being completely transparent he wants the biggest names we've seen his hit L we've seen him we've seen Billy Joe talking about a comeback we've seen Connor Ben perhaps returning we know he wants the Canelo fight we know Crawford might look at moving up to middleweight as well so those will take precedence um and those big names will take precedence but he wants to win a world title at 160 and I can see it and there's possible fights there to be made against Lara that was talked about and Adams as well so as I say he wants to achieve everything that everyone wants him to achieve that everyone want sees his talent and and believes he can achieve and he's got 18 months to two years to to go and do that in in his Peak okay Ben thank you very much indeed we're coming up to half 12 um just a a a word on ball ahead of Lee carsley Squad announcement at 2:00 and news coming through to as Kieran trip here will not now Rupert Bell is at the British Masters At belfrey rert what can you tell us good afternoon good afternoon yes halfway through this opening day of the betfred British Masters a couple of Englishmen going along nicely conditions making it a little testing but lorri caner and Jordan Smith have both opened up with good runs they're coming towards the end couple of holes left for 34 year old Englishman lorri caner who's at three underpar the same score as Jordan Smith who won the Singapore open earlier this year and Sebastian Frederickson a 21-year-old DNE is also going along nicely after 11 holes he's at three under but there'll be all eyes on another Englishman in just over 40 minutes as Turell Hatton will be teeing it up as he begins his quest to try and make it into the Ridder C team of course he's plays regularly on the live tour now but that loophole allows him to play here in this DP World Tour event and the Ridder Cup captain Luke Donal will also be teeing it up in the next hour rivert thank you very much much indeed Spencer Oliver has joined Simon and myself as we talk boxing this lunchtime we heard from boxer chief executive Ben shom on the fact that Chris Eubank Jr will fight on that bill in October in Riad um many of you out there are saying to is time up he's got to be having a a world title fight by now and if not why not um there's Rob guys you're making excuses for Eubank Jr his career's getting boring now there's another one spener Eubank Jr he's a big name because of his dad's Legacy but it's boring now guys have no desire to see him fight to be honest I mean does this come through to you Spencer but you bang Junior there's a frustration amongst certain fight fans absolutely listen we do need to see him in a world title shot and and we need to see that very very soon I understand where he's sat right now we're saying he didn't want the Canelo fight because he's been 13 months out and there is an argument there Simon's one that will argue argue about that saying listen it's about opportunity you got to take them them opportunities and he hasn't taken it he's tries to take his own path he's going out to Saudi he's going to get this fight a it's a very winnable fight you know he's a tough guy tough campaigner but no world beater he gets to win here and then we need to see him in that big fight with that big name he has to box for a world title I don't I don't think the public will accept anything but okay Spencer we shall see and we're also going to see what's going to happen next month because um it is selling out at an incredible rate so much so they've haded more they've added more capacity to the crowd that's going to gather at Wembley next month to see Anthony Joshua fight Daniel Dubois 95,000 plus are going to squeeze into Wembley to see this uh Daniel dub I think is just finished another session in the gym and his trainer Don Charles joins us live this lunchtime Don good afternoon to you good afterno to you Jim Don thanks for joining us am I right have you just been with Daniel how's how's the training going because the countdown's on now isn't it most definitely um all is well all is well at theend aha you're playing your cars close to your chest Mr Charles here Spencer yeah as nothing changes with me you know that I know listen Don you know Anthony Joshua very well you go back a long long way you obviously work with Daniel Duo now I suppos a million dooll question is you know what can Daniel duu do to beat Anthony Joshua September the 21st what have you really been working on do you truly believe you guys that you can get Victory there well if we if we didn't believe we're in the wrong business um you asked me prior to that what will he do or what are we planning to do basically what he's been doing in the last uh two if not three previous fights and and that would be I mean I was in in Saudi watching him against um hergovich and we've spoken about it often enough on but that night Daniel virtually boxed his head off is he going to attempt to do the same to AJ It's a Fight by any means necessary we will box and we will fight we will choose when to box we will choose when to fight I mean against hergovich that approach against herovic was just to take the fight to him and outwork him out hustle him and break him down and it's exactly what he done and he come through there as an underdog I mean it was probably a career best victory for me there with Daniel but he probably can't take that same approach against Stony Joshua can he most definitely um I've got the whole when you got the whole country uh telling us uh what that we must uh keep our hands up and uh you know again please pardon my next line I had a phone call from Stevie W last week telling me the same thing he's got to keep his hands up and move his head so um and we'll be stupid we'll be stupid not to uh not to listen which is a um what we have to make sure to rectify the mistakes we made in the previous fight although we came out Victorious uh we need to rectify um what we believe we need to rectify um no we can't take that sort of approach the the initial three first three rounds uh it's not advisable and uh like I said we've been working heavily to make sure we Shore up our ends but the opposition's got some defending to do it I can tell you that for nothing I mean you just started work with um Daniel dear just prior to three months prior to the Alexander us fight didn't you and I think that a lot of people including yourself said that that was probably the making of him that fight the molding of him because that was where you recognize that he does belong at World level and it's not about the physicalities with Daniel it's more about the mindset and you feel that you've installed that to him that psychological side that was maybe missing with him and that makes him a different fighter ah we had his line crackle a bit we'll see if we can get Dawn back Simon in your view is Du capable at this stage in his career of beating Joshua in this massive event next month depends what Anthony Joshua turns up I think um fighting Gerald Miller and hovic and fighting Anthony Joshua were different animals um Don talked about the chances that he had against usyk and felt that he would be usk and he didn't and he's making he has the same sentiment of course he's going to answer the question if you do think you've got a chance by saying of course we've got a chance of course he's got a chance Daniel Duo hits and he hits hard um the big question is is is Daniel Duo at the level that Anthony Joshua once was at and is Anthony Joshua at that level and if he is it's a difficult night Don is back with us Don when you see your fighter Daniel du at the moment in the gym and he's going through his Paces what are you looking at what what do you see that gives you real hope for September 21st um I see a lot of things and one of the uh most recent things I've uh not just myself the team we've noticed there's an eror of he's always been a confident kid you know um there's an there's an extra bounce in his steps he's not a flash kid as you know um he's very humble dance withth kid and there's an extra they know that Champions mentality um that's what we're saying it's not the spoken it just see it the way the way there just it's hard to explain unless you witness it yourself there's just this extra balce in his steps you know he smiling he's happy and is relishing the opportunity to to uh cement I wouldn't start using the word legacy to basically let's say to retain his hard earned title um because we weren't awarded that title on the night where he supposed to be on the line as you know it was uh he would upgrade it to a full Champion uh weeks uh after the fight yeah so this by winning on the 21st would then be legitimate in the sense that nobody could ever question him again about being a world champion but there is an a an extra air of themm even if it's a 10% increase in his behavior then that's how gains isn't it Don do you put that down to him becoming ibf world champion because I think that when Fighters go from being Challenger to world champion they do get a different bounce in their step that does give them a new found confidence and that that can be the difference you know going into this fight for Daniel deire is that you know that extra belief in himself because that's where the confidence will come from knowing now that he is the man he's the he's the world champion and that does make a huge difference with a fighter correct correct spener you B high level you was a champion European Champion so I'm sure after you won that belt there's this you can't describe it unless someone is in your presence would they feel what I'm trying to tell the audience there's an extra added like I said it's not a flash it's not suddenly a flash kid being cocky no there's just this a of uh uh and that confidence is not a false one it's based on the words we're putting him through you know it's l like I've always alluded to his layers about building layers and all we've done for the past 12 months this will be his fourth fight in just over 12 months yeah all we do is put layers layers up layers and we go continue doing so I I I looked at hergovich at the end of the fight in in Saudi Arabia Don I must admit he looked shattered and he looked shocked do you think Dan can Daniel inflict a similar outcome on on AJ not can he he will have to um you know with the greatest of respect we're we're going in there with an elite elite High performer high level performer in the name of Anthony Joshua we're not under any No Illusion this is not going to be a walk in the this is going to be hard I said before the hergovich fight this was toughest fight to date we knew that we're going to be in for a fight we know be in for a fight against Joshua like I said Joshua is a look what the kid is the was it 12 year career so far what he in that um and it's going to be tough but we've made Provisions to accommodate everything that he's going to bring but have they made Provisions to accommodate what we're going to bring that is the question Don amazing thank you very much indeed Don Charles joining us this lunch time of course he goes in against dub goes in against Anthony Joshua on the 21st of September at Wembley Stadium 95,000 plus going to be at that um it's a very good attendance along at Lords it's a cricket it's his second test England Sri Lanka here's John 83 for3 England they've lost Ben D on the reverse sweep it's a shot that he usually plays well but uh when it doesn't pay off it looks ugly um he's gone for the uh premeditated shot and he hasn't got it in front of square and he's got it in the air as well and kamara's done well on the boundary at backward deep Square leg to take this high and steepling catch and what that Wicket means is is that Sri Lanka who decided to bowl first will feel that they're Justified they have in front of them though got England's three best batters Jamie Smith Harry Brooke and and Joe root who is still there so no need for panic for England but that's three wickets that have fallen this morning and you got to say the Batters on each occasion have had a hand in their own dismissal 87 for3 England okay Spencer Oliver uh in with us until 1:00 in with us on Tuesday live in studio on the show is promoter Eddie Hern that is then though today we finish off with some more boxing chat heading towards one e e e e talk sport traffic and travel Coliseum of confrontation Jim White and Simon Jordan midm mornings on talk sport the nation's primary destination for essential breaking sports news triple distilled opinion and blistering debate take it to the limit with white and Jordan midm mornings on talk [Music] sport Spencer Oliver alongside myself and Simon this Thursday lunchtime as we talk boxing live on talk sport we're also live on YouTube and Facebook SP Watchers why don't you Spencer with Simon and myself to one um it would be wrong to go to today without mentioning Martin boli uh Spence he he thrust himself amongst the world's leading heavyweight contenders early this month and very much derailed the progress of rising American hope Jared Anderson what do you think of him well a performance like Jared Anderson was highly talented as being the next guy to take the heavyweight bat absolutely annihilated him smashed him to pieces and um Martin is the guy is the chairman of the who needs him who wants him Club no one wants to go near him because he's that good I've seen him up close in the gym I've seen him sparring all the big names trust me the kid can fight but he's now earning his right Simon is now WBA number one I think WBA um WBC number three he's knocking on the door I think there's a you know there been rumors circulating is he going to go over to China will he fight zel xang in China well I think Joseph Parker's now activated that rematch clause so that takes him out of the equation but where does Martin boli go next because who wants him that is the truth of it he's that good a great fight for him would be someone like Ed Cabo wouldn't it yeah absolutely me with him who's knocked out Frank Sanchez recently and knocked out the big Russian I mean I they who'd want that fight but it's an interesting one for Ben Shalom because he gets a foothold in the heavyweight division at this moment in time Frank has all that sort of monopolized and and so does Eddie yeah now all of a sudden Ben's in with the Saudis if boli is at the front of the heavyweight queue now as as an opportunity it gives him even more power and more opportunity to to to to embolden himself but boli is is an interesting fighter if he's hot property Spencer who truly could claim to be the future at this stage of the heavyweight division Moses ATA that's not even a conversation I think that that kid is the next Superstar of heavyweight boxing he's he's brilliant southb stance controls the space really well Wicked with his hands Marius V last time out a guy very tough very durable people expected him to give ITA rounds and ITA just took him in two rounds but it was punch perfect shot selection is brilliant he is the next Superstar of heavyweight boxing without a doubt well I spoke to atoma uh over in Riad some time ago just uh a few weeks ago and uh I was putting it to him how do you feel about being dubbed the future of the heavyweight division the next big thing people's expectations got nothing to do with me like I know what I think of myself and I just got to go out and prove that it's nice it's nice to hear that people have got such high hopes for me but yet again that does me no favors like at the end of the day they can't jump in the ring with me so it's like it's nice to hear but I kind of have to ignore it because if I like if I think that I'm the future then I feel like I've achieved something that I haven't achieved yet so I'm kind of put that at the back of my mind and just carry on doing my job you're 19 but when you first began boxing you hated it is that right no I didn't hate it but I was like I threw up with my first couple sessions I was I don't know if this sport is for me but turns out isn't it I've just loved being in the gym when I was younger and just messed around and got good at it and I'm here you see everybody will want a headline are you still aiming to be the youngest World Heavyweight Champion since mate Tyson fris did said the other day it's like when like a kid obviously football or growing up like he's not going to just say I want to play for the efl or saying you go I mean he wants to play for Chelsea and whatever like me I was very very una when I first start professional I was very unaware of the things outside the boxing uh outside the ring sorry that my job that I can do is only get in the ring and fight and I feel like I'm doing that job to the best of my ability and I feel like I'm definitely maneuvering up the rankings quickly like obviously now i' got the WBO title I'm I'm ranked it in there if it comes it comes if it don't it don't listen I just it was a goal it was a goal I'd love to aim it if not on to the next one I got a goal in my head but I'm going to see if there's going to make a difference if I don't tell anyone Moes um he he feels yeah I I understand why people are looking at me thinking I can make the headlines but at the same time you know he wants to stay grounded listen he's annoying 19y old kid mean some we're talking off Ed just then he's a very mature kid for 19 I know what the goal is I know what Frank Warren wants I know what he wants and that's to become the youngest ever World Heavyweight Champion Mike Tyson currently holds out of 20 years of age and they've just I saw Frank Warren just calling out actually saying Moses wants Joseph Parker Joseph Parker and he's looking at interim titles then and that might be the Gateway into going in to win one of these World titles before and break Mike Tyson's record but that's the confidence they've got in his ability you know whether that's the right move whether that's pushing him too soon Joseph Barker a great fighter in his own right and he's on a run at the moment but that shows you Simon the confidence in their in his ability not just with him but with the team around him as well the kick hand fight oh yeah I mean and he can also speak for himself as well when someone answers a question you know other people's expectations of me had nothing to do with me I think that shows you the level of his own thinking his belief system he's not going to get caught up in it I mean he is a very impressive young man and a very impressive fighter I I don't like him fighting fting Joseph Parker at this stage I think it's just a tad too early because Joseph Parker has got the smarts um and has done very well recently but if he were to go and fight Joseph Parker and to deal with him comprehensively then it would just explode the opportunity potentially for him to get to fight for World title inside the time that Tyson I think he's going to be hard pushed to get a world title shot by the time he's 20 or even I think it was 21 when Tyson won the world yeah I think I think Tyson was 20 but it depends on what month that falls in and what not son of Frank Francis Warren looking after Moses ATA yeah uh big things expected of him so I have to say he is so impressive as you say with that you know there were big things expected very early of Daniel Duo yeah and three or four years ago people were writing articles that forget Fury forget Joshua this is the kid and it they may well be right Moses has more potential than Daniel did there for sure like I believe he'll ABS 100% he will he will win a world title I do believe that I've seen many fighters at the certain and you look at Daniel who was a great young fighter himself Moses has something special though but if you look at this next gener we are about to see the furies and the joshuas um and the us6 sooner rather than later depart and behind that is a vacuum there isn't an elite Triumph for it like there was in tennis there isn't you know Joshua Fury and usyk if you look in the heavyweight division what are we looking at yeah true so that will a vacuum that can be filled by people like a tumor Simon the last time Eddie Hern was in the studio um it apart from the fact that your your chat with him that day if we can call it a chat got an enormous audience it was build as her versus Jordan and all that Eddie Hern is going to join us live in studio next Tuesday and I think a lot of Watchers uh gone under the bridge since then and there's a fair bit of mutual respect flying about is there um respects all relative isn't it I I maintain the points the things that I said despite the consistent protestation that I don't know what I'm talking about and the things get born out we sit here two years down the road how's his mate Connor how was the advice and the care that was put into Connor Ben's career how's that worked out for him because that was the Genesis of the of the the arguments and most of the time what what Eddie does very well is answer a completely different question than the one you've asked him right okay so not much so I I listen if if you if you it will be a different if you build a business alongside your father that's worth the best part of a billion quid and do it across a multitude of sports and make each one of these Sports better as by association in terms of the representation and you have to be admired so the fact that they've done darts they've done snooker the boxing world you have to admire it it doesn't mean you have to like the person but you can admire their achievements well let's admire Eddie when he's in with us next Tuesday Eddie you need to do that he'll do that for himself he will be in studio with Simon and myself on Tuesday H Spencer Oliver thanking you so much mate for your contribution as always today as we head up to one remember in about an hour Lee Carley's first England squad will be announced no ke tripier he has retired from International Football heading to one e e e e on 1089 and 1053 medium wave online on your mobile on the app and on your smart speaker talk sport talk Sport with luers Vans new or used luers vans will keep your business moving luers a good deal better thanks to Jim Simon and indeed Spencer uh coming up next me Paul hawksby Charlie Baker is here we've got an England squad as Jim was just saying we're going to be bringing you that live and the reaction to it from the caretaker manager Lee carsley we'll hear from him we'll get your reaction to that as well there's going to be a few interesting names in there certainly few issues at left back in like the news in the last half an hour or so Johnny Jackson's going to join us the AFC Wimbledon manager big win for them against hip witch and Newcastle to visit their Stadium next Lots going on in the transfer market and we'll be reflecting that our old mate Mickey Quinn joins us it's the combination of his Racing League he's one of the team captains and of course we'll talk New Castle Liverpool and more plus um we'll have a birthday spring squeeze that in the final hour before all of that though and we'll keep you in touch with the cricket and the par Olympics but let's uh let's get these sports headlines now with Ben Fletcher good afternoon we'll start with Cricket it's been a tricky morning for England at Lords put into bat by Sri Lanka they've lost some cheap wickets including standing Captain Ole Pope talk sports John la is watching yeah it's been another engrossing session of test Cricket Sri Lanka have turned up to win not just compete they were eyebrows raised when Dan and J the Sila after calling correctly at the toss decided to bowl first but as the lunch bell rings out you'd have to say kind of Justified Harry Brook and Joe r at the crease as England walk from the field the three batters to fall of all out of hand in their own downfall Lawrence the makeshift opener coming down the quick and trying to push a ball into the offside could only take an Inside Edge or an outside edge rather that was collected by The Keeper he went for nine Ole pop rash pool shot top Edge which was caught well by the Sri Lankan skipper for one and when B Ben Ducket was out on the reverse sweep caught on the boundary uh you'd have to say just about Sri Lanka's morning uh two teams trooping off and as I say root and Brook at the creas but England have lost three wickets this morning they're 97 for3 at lunch The Following on podcast with John and Steve harmeson returns this evening looking back at the day's play now a modern day England Hero has announced his International retirement it's Kieran trippier oh it's in what a start for England inside the opening five minutes here and
