Start out on today's dmvr Buffs live we are three days out from week one against North Dakota State what coordinators coach Livingston and coach shmer said on the podium today North Dakota State head coach Tim pic has some words on his evaluation of shador Sanders Z Weaver balls out in the final preseason game of the year for the Cardinals and much more here we go [Music] bre [Music] mation let's go my guy thank you kale appreciate you welcome into dmvr bus Prime Time coming to you live from the Toyota Lounge driven by your Front Range Toyota stores Toyota the official vehicle of dmvr three days out you feel it coming three of them things bro we finally made it bro yep only a couple more sleeps bro next time I'm on here with you bro we going to actually have a game to talk about let's get it Scott Proctor once again on the show today welcome our guy back great to have you here my man appreciate you my boy appreciate invite as always love being up here on this set with y'all let's get into it my boy let's get into it today we had our final media availability um ahead of NDSU next time we talk to the coaches players anyone on the team basically it's we're wrapping up 100% uh we're uh we're very anxious I am at least you are yes I can just feel it around the team though like everyone is so ready to go for Thursday night bro when you when you hitting the same dudes and your teammates for for a month on end bro and you finally see that light at the end of the tunnel you feel me it's it's a different feeling I feel you though I feel like they're they're a bit more locked in and I think they feel you know that it's what 72 or so hours away man it's going to be uh it's going to be cracking here Thursday night so let's get into practice today no players just uh the coordinators coach Shermer and Coach Livingston up on the podium um let's start with Coach Livingston heard a lot about this defense uh throughout Spring football in the early days of Camp yeah and uh I think the arrow is still pointing way way up with them yeah man I love uh I love interacting with Coach Livingston man he impresses me he impresses me Livingston presser takeaways every time we get a chance to to talk to him for sure man you know a few things that kind of stood out to me out the gate you know just talking about the NDSU matchup uh he obviously talked about the fact that you know North Dakota state ran a two quarterback system last year they're probably going to do the same this year cam Miller probably be the you know starter out the gate their main starter but um Cole Payton as well is a real you know weapon as a runner from the quarterback position I think dude like 63 230 you know real load you know to tackle particularly in in the red zone and goal line area situation so you know I think that's going to be the biggest thing for this defense on Thursday is you know not allowing ndsu's quarterback run game to you know control the tempo of the game you know allow them to get in the short down and distances short third and you know fourth and fewer so I think that's going to be the biggest most important thing for this defense here this weekend um for sure and also too you know he mentioned you know some of those leaders on the defensive side of the ball who have kind of you know stepped up or you know stood out to him at least in his first season in Boulder those three being you know Camron Silman Craig who we probably expected to hear Trevor Woods as well and you know Shane Coes on the defensive line and you know him mentioning Co probably makes me think that Shane will probably get that first that first rep to start an interior defensive line next to chido I would assume um and obviously there'll be some other guys rotated in but I would expect um you know those guys you know Shane Co in particular to kind of get the start you know alongside Chidi probably BJ you know probably Deon as well up front so it's going to be interesting man but uh yeah I love hearing from Livington and I think I mentioned two on the show before there there's a possibility it's on the table that he's like a star defensive mind like we look at him you know maybe a couple months from now like yeah he's a future head coach whether be in the college ranks are back in the NFL so I think I really like where this defensive staff is at and obviously there's a ton of Talent on that side of the ball so it should be should be fun starting Thursday night definitely uh here's coach Livingston on his impression of NDSU what they've seen on film and um you know what they're preparing for on Thursday yeah I think it starts with their players you know you got to know who they have coming back what they can do uh obviously the culture there is something that will not leave depending on who the head coach is it's in the locker room you watch those guys play whether it's on defense or offense I mean it means a lot to them um so yeah it feels like we're watching six different teams uh first games are that way um you know I'm sure they're watching a bunch of different stuff on us so it's really all about us I think it's going to be that way each week uh but no more than the first week when you're not really sure what you're going to see and you just kind of adapt and adjust in the game and and that's why we're coaches that's why we get paid to do this and uh super excited for it go hey coach uh North goota State's a team that likes to use the quarterbacks in the running game a lot what challenges does that present to your defense yeah they make you play 11 on 11 um I can't say enough about the quarterbacks obviously the two system last year you know Wyoming was very similar if you go back and look at it um I think seven runs better than you anticipate and I think nine is a phenomenal athlete so uh we got our hands full again when they go make it 11 on 11 we got to tackle we got to get off blocks and we got to play fast so uh again can't talk enough about the culture they have built there right you watch those guys get off the ball whether it's the the ones or the threes and some of the blowouts I mean they had some hell wins last year and it's a consistent effort right so um really phenomenal challenge that we're excited for so there you go uh you kind of set the table beautifully but I would definitely expect to see both quarterbacks on Thursday night yep um you know they like to run the ball you know that what's everything's going to be built off of in that offense I'd assume some play action as well um you know mixed in but yeah you're going to see a lot of you know weird stuff quarterback power you know read option Veer you know uh sweep all this type of stuff so um it sounds like they're ready or they're preparing the guys to be ready for a battle in the trenches on Thursday night 100% And yeah that's going to be the key I think to me what I kind of just alluded to and you know I encourage everybody out there to check out my story from from last week talking to NDSU offensive line running game coordinator Dan Larsson my former College head coach for three years um and you know he just kind of brought up to me when I asked him about cam Miller you know he mentioned a game two years ago National FCS semifinals chance to go to the FCS national championship and cam Miller completed played the whole game completed one pass but he ran for over 100 I think 130 yard and you know his legs was really the reason that they were able to advance to another FCS national championship and that's just kind of the player is it might not be the prettiest throw in the football but they're going to rely on him to make plays with his arm but really be you know a factor in that running game and I think again that's what Livingston this defense has to do on Thursday night Force cam Miller Cole Payton or whatever to throw the football make them prove show you that they can actually move the chains with their arm and utilize their their offensive weapons because argob their best receiver is now playing in the Big 12 for Iowa State Eli green you know who they lost in the transfer report of this offseason so you know make those quarterbacks again whether it be cam Miller or Cole Peyton make them prove that they can beat you with their arm cuz if those two guys if one or both of those guys get gone with their legs it's it could be a problem and it could turn into a you know a bit of a dog fight there for sure and also another thing Livingston mentioned there too was have time adjustments that's going to be huge that's another thing Larson mentioned as well because you know he told me they don't even really know who the Colorado starters are going to be on defense you know so it's going to be a it's going to be a filling out period for both teams but probably even more so for NDSU because you know they got a the Personnel they're going to have to adjust to and also Livingston style as a defensive coordinator that's something Larson talked about like you know with all the nuances that Livingston probably has from learning under lumo the Bengals in the uh over the last you know damn near decade there's going to be an adjustment period for both teams so you know which team assuming it's still a close game around halftime assuming you know which team you know comes out of halftime with the right adjustments uh I think he's going to have an upper hand moving forward yeah and then uh you know coach Livingston mentioned it today you know it's like watching uh six teams and that's just North Dakota State a team who does not have much movement in the transfer portal um they're very traditional on how they build their roster in terms of bringing guys in having them come all the way up so um it's just week one for everyone in college football and I think you saw a little bit we'll get it to some week zero takeaways later in the show but I think you saw a lot of that on Saturday in week zero a lot of uh you know teams just kind of feeling each other out and stuff you know they may get a play to pop here and there um but you saw a lot of comebacks too in week zero and I think a lot of that was what you were saying with the second half adjustments it's North Dakota State we know what they are they're going to run the football they're going to try and control the clock exactly and uh play keep away from shador and all these receivers basically 100% yeah uh coach Livingston you know we just talked a lot about uh running the ball in the defensive line and stuff but the linebackers have become a topic in recent weeks particularly the competition for who will start uh for that first team defense at the second level here's coach Livingston speaking about that linebacker unit and what he expects from them yeah there's been competition each day um you know coach Hart coach Hilo they do a great job with those guys um you know so there's competition you know guys want to play you know um that's the beauty of college football is only x amount of guys play so I'm excited to see how when the lights come on on Thursday night I'm sure we'll have a bunch of packages and a bunch of different guys flying around and and uh they have put everything they have into it so the football Gods should bless them with a play or two he didn't really want to give away too much there in terms of personnel I don't blame him man yep I don't blame him I get it though but we have a good idea right we expect we expect to see Trevor Woods out there for sure yes definitely um lante B's going to get some run for sure but yeah Niko green is the guy who I would expect to if not start get the majority of r at inside linebacker alongside Trevor woods and you know he mentioned packages there and that's going to be I don't think that was by accident I think they are going to be legitimate packages where you know you utilize levante's Levante Bentley's ability to rush the passer you know from the second level with the defense and you know and just get him in open space attacking that quarterback especially again with the size of those NDSU quarterbacks and you know their ability to run the football so it's going to be interesting to see how again Livingston kind of utilizes his shooter so to which is again one of my favorite football analogies I've ever heard a coach say he said that earlier this spring that you know he likes to think of his Playmakers his guys on defense as Shooters in basketball you know you want to get your best Shooters as many shot attempts as possible so whether that's man coverage getting those guys Inman coverage if this guys is truly talented as a pass rusher getting them in as many one-on-one opportunities as possible so I'm going to be fascinated to see how Livingston employs you know some of those guys particularly in the front seven yeah he talked a lot about Trevor today so I would expect a lot of Trevor Woods on Thursday night um I'm also very interested to see what they do with JB because he had a great spring we've heard he's at a great Camp as well kind of been this versatile piece that they haven't really figured out uh at CU but it seems like now he's really starting to come along figure things out at off ball linebacker so I'd expect to see a bit of him as well and this kind of seems like a Jeremiah Brown game right a Smash Mouth really physical this is exactly it instincts read your keys and go make a play exactly coach Livingston also as you mentioned you know talked about the leaders on his defense said cam San Craig's a phenomenal kid and leader also mentioned Shane Coes and Trevor Woods um and then you know this is kind of a moment for him as well because uh first time defensive coordinator first time play caller he spoke a lot about that today um but also gave his thanks you know to coach Prime and to everything that's been going on at Colorado since he's gotten there he said had run through a wall for that that dude talking about Coach Prime yeah um I'm grateful to be here my family loves it here um so it's great to hear that he's really fitting in well and just love him Boulder in Colorado yeah it's dope man like I said I love hearing from coach Livingston and yeah I mean he didn't really yet to say that it was kind of unprovoked you know you know just the trust that coach Prime obviously has in in Robert Livingston you know to give him this this platform you know this Spotlight on on this team as a first time you know defensive coordinator uh I think says a lot about you know how coach Brian feels about Robert Livingston and again I I see the potential I can I can see a world where in a few years in a couple years even you know coach Livingston is is a head coach somewhere mhm would not be surprised um you know I'm very interested to see defensively what the Buffs throw out at the Bison on Thursday night um I we saw like a fourman front I think usually in the spring game and a lot of the clips that's what we see uh would you be expecting them to go bigger on the front maybe drop an extra guy down get a guy like Shane Coes in a wider S type of set maybe to more utilize the skill set I mean honestly I'd be a bit surprised I would expect the to see the traditional four down linean you know two linebackers five DBS on the field because you know your DBS are so versatile and you know at least a few of them those safties are particular shallow camon can come down and fill the Run Lanes you know pretty easily so you know I wouldn't expect you know again maybe in the Red Zone you know maybe in goal line situations absolutely you bring in an extra defensive lineman you probably bring in a a Bentley or J Brown who you know really thrive in run situations but you know I don't I don't think you know I also don't think that you know you want to show too much if if you can help it you know I'm saying if you can help it at least you know if you got to pull out what you got to pull out to get a win but you know if you feel early on that you feel pretty comfortable with the talent discrepancy between the two teams on the field you don't want to show everything but I think it'll be uh it'll be interesting man I I think Livingston has a lot of tools at his disposal in terms of personnel uh in terms of you know a lot of things who he has out there on the field and the way he wants to deploy them I think I said employ earlier instead of deploy so I just want to just want to apologize you're getting on both sides of the ball love it and more about the transition over to the other side of the football but first a word from our friends over at UC Health and their Ready Set a lot today about a lot Shurmur presser takeaways of different things preparation for NDSU uh his role being on the sideline this year as opposed to being in the booth yeah um qb2 tons of things so let's just get into this uh Pat shurmer on North Dakota State and what he's seen scouting their defense so far did you get what you wanted to get implemented in terms of a game plan going into the season opener oh I think so I think you know we've been able to work on all the things really throughout the year that we would do and really the first month of the season and uh you know we're playing a different style of Defense than the one that we play against in training camp so that's been good too cuz we can work on some of the things that we'll see as the season progresses but uh we feel good about our plan moving into this first game right you go yeah I mean I I said it at the outset but you know they're a team that's built on toughness they got a a rich winning tradition um they're very fundamental in their approach approach uh but I'm going to say fundamental in their approach because they have enough wrinkles to keep you on your toes whether it be pressures simulated pressures they will play some man um you know and I think it's just a cultural thing with them and I would think you know I think they've got a lot of really talented players you know all Americans you know to to say the you know but they also uh you know the sum of the parts I think they really play really really good team defense I'm not surprised at what I heard there because um it really is what coach said it's about the culture that that they've established at NDSU um they've got a brand like a certain play style you know what I mean and they may have a new head coach but it's not going to change too much uh from what we're used to seeing from this team defensively you know a lot of Tampa two some cover three they will play some man here and there um but they also like to you know play some games with the slot Defenders too send them on blitzes drop them in and out simulated pressures so there could be a lot thrown at this team on the offensive side of the ball the Buffs Buffs wise on Thursday for sure yeah I think there's maybe some uncertainty about the offensive side of the ball considering they have an offensive minded head coach now leading the program for the first time in 20 plus years I believe something you know coach Larson talked to me a little bit about but uh yeah defensively you you pretty much know what you're going to get man this is going to be a fundamentally sound defense and that's obviously you know what Shermer you know talk quite a a bit about there um so in return Colorado has to be the same they have to be disciplined you know what I'm saying they have to you know be very fundamentally sound up front because if Colorado's offensive line has a good night then the Buffalo will have a good night and next you could say that probably for most of the games on their schedule this year but particularly you know week one I think it it's very important to establish a run game here week one against opponent that you should extensively be able to do that again you know yep Charlie Alford doll d Hayden you know whoever you know gets in after him AUST of you know either the two true freshman running backs even I think this is going to be a game where you get hopefully a 100 yard rusher you run for a buck 50 as a team in addition to shadur and those receivers just doing what they do so um yeah and a lot of that's going to fall on Pat shmer he talked a little bit about about the script the opening script you know that's something that coach Larson used to do when I played for him and I'm sure Shermer does something you scripped out probably the first 10 to 15 plays or so the first two drives or so and obviously there's going to be some variation depending on down and distance and how things go from the first couple plays but you know you have you know 10 or 15 plays that you've practiced a ton that everybody all those 11 guys on the field feel really good about and it's also going to tell you you know those 10 or 15 plays what plays later in the game you can run off of that you know if you run a certain Run play you might have a play action you know off of that that you know kind of same look and whatnot so you know Shimmer's going to have uh he's going to have to get creative a little bit but not too creative you know hopefully so it's going to be a it's going to be interesting for sure yeah it's going to be interesting for me to see the offensive balance on Thursday um you know we just talked about the defense and how we know North Dakota State's going to come out run the football play action they're going to try and control the game you know win time of possession but um if the defense does their thing on on the other side of the ball for the offense uh it's kind of the same thing I think they you know if you can counter punch them run the ball and own time of possession yourself um that's just as good of a counter as it would be on defensively you know getting stops here in there no doubt um but you also got to score too I think Colorado should aim to score every time they touch the ball on Thursday night um and if that happens I don't think it will honestly really matter what happens defensively uh too much at that point too yeah I have to agree with you coach Shimmer also spoke um again he's going to be on the sideline for games this season he also talks about the impact of having the T on the sideline as well a different change for Calling plays from the sideline him coming from the NFL let's hear it I think I think especially at this level communication with the players um and you know this is a way different operation and feel than pro football um and so it's no huddle and you can make quick changes on the field things change constantly when you're in no huddle um and so um that's why I felt like being down there instead of telling somebody to tell somebody I'll be right there so that I can make those switches uh in real time and then the second question is and then I'm sorry so the other part of it is you know typically in the NFL it's a much slower game right because you're playing from the Huddle quite frankly um and so a lot of the communication you can get through the communicator to the quarterback to do in the Huddle here it's all happening in real time everybody spread out so that that's part of what went into it plus also it gives me an opportunity between series to visit with shador face to face and we can talk about things that we want to do moving forward way different game I'm curious though also um do the tablets you guys can use those this year does that play a role too that you now can look at those on the sidelines or yeah I think they're good uh I think the the biggest change for college football like I'm used to the tablets from the NFL it used to be tablets with pictures this is actually tablets with video so guys in the Press Box can grade their players in real time you know I think uh you you know but they're very advantageous when you can see what's happened um you know if you run a similar play later on a lot of times the plays just keep changing but you can tell how teams are playing in real time it's good it's good stuff so both coordinators on the sideline but again I think the impact of having those tablets and being able to like live react live learn from what you just saw in the football field especially for a guy like shador Sanders who precisely you know that's where he makes his money is uh you know being a great player off the field being a great teammate but the film study uh learning you know defensive Tendencies and all that stuff um that's a massive massive Advantage for shador and for Coach Shermer I mean he's kind of coming from that realm too so it's a little bit of a you know going back to some of the NFL type of setting of course he's going to be on the sideline though so right yeah I thought that was fascinating too you know I don't think it was shown there but you know Shimmer was asked about you know just his report with shador today and you know he just talked about the fact that shador makes it easy on him because he's always so prepared he always knows what to be looking for and you know what to be watching out for when they're watching film together by themselves and shador is a pro mentally you know and and many different ways and obviously Shermer has a pro background and I think those two just mesh really well and obviously most likely better than you know shador and Shawn Lewis probably did last year because again different styles and you know Styles make fights so to speak and um you know again I think Shawn Lewis is is a fine coach I think he's going to do fine in San Diego State right I think he just actually named Danny O'Neal Danny O'Neal former CU buff commit a true freshman correct as his starting quarterback so you know again it looks like you know to me at least that Shawn Lewis you know probably wants to be able to talk through things more and you know be more of a Hands-On coach with this quarterback but shadur don't need that you know shadur don't need that yes he needs coaching but and he needs somebody you know from to have give him a different perspective out there on the field from the sideline what he's seeing from the sideline and whatnot but um I just think that that's minding of The Mending of the minds rather is going to be really special between shador and Shermer this season I agree um last clip we have from coach um I asked him about the offensive line story of the off season how does he feel about them at this state three days out from NDSU uh very confident very confident I think those guys have worked extreme ly hard together fortunately uh we haven't had a lot of injuries so they you know Pat on the OL they've got a lot of time on task the Five Guys that we going to start uh working together and uh so yeah I got a lot of confidence in them I got a lot of confidence in all these young men you know I feel I feel like they're going to go out and we're going to put them in a good spot let them do the things they do so first part at the end there he just sounds very confident in the team what he's seen at practice but um again reports on offensive line all sound great uh he did mention you know we've got a we've got a top five so there's been a lot of talk about reshuffling on the offensive line and stuff right um I wouldn't be surprised if maybe there's a sixth or seventh offensive lineman who gets in the game and plays but other than that that's going to be it I think you really roll with your top five kind of like what they did with TCU last year for sure yeah it's going to be uh yeah again hopefully hopefully you don't have to do too much shuffling hopefully that starting five you throw out there plays well enough to where you you know they stay out there until maybe the game's out of hand but I think it was good to hear Shermer say that there is a there's a there's a starting five that they feel really good about it cuz I know l h mentioned last year that you know there about six to eight guys that they feel good about um which which is good you need that depth injuries happen but also too it's really great that injuries knock on wood haven't really hit this offensive line group obviously like Shermer just mentioned there that way they can get the Reps in preseason you don't have you know one or two guys missing a bunch of valuable time together getting reps with that with that starting five with shador you know with whoever's in the back field as well so I think that's another just just a positive sign you know coming out of Camp because as we've seen injuries injuries have been popping up kind of all over the place you know in preseason college football here um which sucks we hate to see that's the worst part of sports injuries but um you know again thankfully CU has you know been relatively unscathed I know khil was dealing with some stuff last week they kept him out of the open practice or was that the week before I was that was the week before he got back last week yeah right so uh so yeah it's been uh it's been all good and obviously Shermer sounds confident like we saw there and he has some reason to be you know Jordan SE is who I'm going to be watching though on Thursday of course very closely Al along with most of the college football world but um yeah his first college football action you know it's going to be something to watch and he's going to have a lot on his plate I'm sure you know the Colorado defense or excuse me the NDSU defensive coordinator is going to you know send some some exotic looks his way to see what he can pick up kind of mentally as well as physically uh so that's going to be fascinating to watch man being shador Sanders Blindside protector is it's not an envious job but it's a job that if you do it well you will be rewarded y handsomely yes very handsomely a couple more things uh coach Shimmer was asked about Cardell Thomas um he started practicing last week with the Buffs as well he sounds like he's been really impressed by him he said he's done a really good job he's a really fine player he got a late start but he'll be available to play if we need him but we W he won't be one of the front liners this week and also mentioned that he's a great guy wonderful person to be around just seems like a great kid um but it sounds like they got another piece in that offensive line he certainly looks apart cuz he was talking also saying like you know not this week but in the future he'll be ready to go yeah so I mean that's a that's a a late ad that could be proved to be very valuable for this for the depth of this offensive line unit down the down the stretch and again he's played you know a decent amount of football from what I remember so it's uh it's a nice that's a nice late ad like I said at a position that again you're going to need depth whether it be early or late or both yep um so now you have him uh you got guys like Zack Owens um Wyatt hmel uh yakari Walker Tyler Johnson like I feel really really good about where they stand with the offensive line right now I I agree with you um coach shmer was kind of asked on comparing this time to this time last year year uh and you know he was just an analyst at this time last year but he went back further to when to before he even joined the team you know talking about the spring game and it's something that ne's talked about with us too how last year like this time last year they're still kind of figuring out what they had um because they had so many spring portal editions last year and they had so much turnover after the spring game that it was almost just like restarting again you know after the season ended for them when they got to camp in August uh but shmer says I think we're night and day from where we where we were a year ago at this time um that's pretty much it though that's the press conference oh uh qb2 um yeah does not sound like there's much of a competition right now or if so it's over uh shout out Ryan stab man yeah Pat shmer was very adamant that Ryan St is qb2 very adamant he seemed very confident in you know his abilities and you know what he what he'd be able to do on the field you know God forbid something were to happen to shadora I think that's a very important thing to have confidence in a backup quarterback you know and obviously Ryan stab showed what he he he's able to do in a you know short stint you know last year at the end of the season and you know he's impressed me you know from what I've seen him too he looked really good in the open practice um here recently after a bit of a slow start but he really settled in makes some really nice throws throws a really good ball real zip and accuracy on his throw so you know I like sto's game a lot and clearly he's earned the the trust of Shermer and the rest of that offensive staff definitely all right let's take a break we got a few more things to touch on you a sunflower seeds guy you know you asked me this before did I already a [ __ ] and not really but you put me on you gave me something to think about though I'm not going to lie I got you uh shout out shinuk CED um whenever I watch games at home at the stadium in the stands wherever I'm at I got to have some sunflower seeds with me really it's just it's just part of what I do I don't know how to describe it it just it's always been that way and it's going to stay that way uh and I'll be chomping on some shinook cedar seeds on Thursday night and this weekend because college football is back man uh but Chinook's got some great flavors um you got the original lemon pepper jalapeno Ranch my favorite is the parmesan pepper and the Hatch Green Chili ones they even have cinnamon toast sunflower seeds we got some fans of those upstairs as well so give them a CH uh a try you can get a sampler pack also if you go on over to shanuk cedar.com use that code Buffs Buu ffs that's 20 uh 20% off your order the best seeds ever shout out shinook Cedar and then also shout out to us the NBR events hey um we've got a bunch of tailgates coming up it's football season so we're back Buffs tailgate on Thursday RSVPs are up on the site uh or tickets I should say are up on the site uh go to the dmv.com events we got Broncos tailgates coming up um it's going to be a minute for the Broncos I think the Steelers is the home opener and that's not not until after Colorado State I believe for us yeah we got like a month but should be a should be a party the uh even the preseason one the other day was a was a blowout you were there uh yeah it was a good time hell yeah um what can people expect from the tailgates out there K ah man uh just a good time I mean food booze beer and uh the best location I mean we literally we're right in the sports fan parking lot um back parking lot so we over look mile high from like the best view in the world and it's like less than a 5 minute walk to get down into the stadium so best spot best deal you're going to find and the best fans in the city it should be a good time sounds like a Vibe love it um so yeah shout out to us head on over to the events page over at the dmv.com events or follow us on social at dmvr sports um and you can check out the whole calendar on the website as well all right let's talk about NDSU specifically real quick you just handed me some news sounds like uh Cole winki the safety who we talked about a few weeks ago yeah um not going to be available and we'll miss significant time this season it's a big blow for them he's obviously an All-American their best defensive player you know I asked coach Larson about wisnoski specifically uh last week and obviously he was just going just about you know just a former High School quarterback who has played linebacker obviously made you know his hay here recently at defensive back and just a versatile tough-nosed player who's just a playmaker you know for their defense and again best player on their defense it's that's a huge loss a big blow for the bison and we won't be seeing him Thursday night and you know hopefully we'll see you know him sometime at this sometime this season but uh it won't be Thursday night so that's uh it's a tough blow for the Bison yep big news uh we wish him well obviously but um you know Buffs are going to take it use it for their advantage on Thursday night and then head coach Tim pic I believe this was today had his press conference oh yeah and was asked obviously about Colorado in week one um and he gave some you got you just got to Tim Polasek on Shedeur listen to this uh here's coach Tim plasic on shador Sanders yeah um you know four weeks ago getting started on this process everybody's asking about Colorado my mind you know just went to off schedule plays you know him making things happen um you know outside the pocket or you know off schedule right he's the best player that NDSU has played yet okay and I really believe that this guy is process oriented he's progression based he's aware of footwork and timing and Rhythm he takes what the defense gives him okay he goes to the right spots and then on top of that he can play off a platform different platforms I think he has a great ability probably his in my opinion his strongest suit is is that he can get his cleats in the ground and deliver the ball quickly when he has to you know and that effects that has a positive effect on rpos that has a positive effect on relief type plays you know a run with relief he's impressive um you know if you were to line up and show him a three-man rush he's going to buy time back there buy time and hit second and third level um throws that are uncommon you know with great accuracy and deep crossers and those kind of things um some of his best plays are the simple play of throwing the ball away as well I I admire uh shador from the standpoint that he's playing the position the way it's always been attended intended to play you know Rhythm timing footwork all matching up and then you put on top of that the ability to to extend plays looking to throw he's not a runner first but he is capable but extending plays and and keeping his eyes down field is pretty impressive it's exciting I think our fans should be excited and should appreciate that they get to see one of the top you know a first round draft pick at quarterback get to play against the Bison is he better in the pocket than you thought then from you know once you sit down right like I I um mentioned to Sam I think we were talking I Pro Football Focus has all these cool different cut-ups and I was able to pull his best 250 plays and then you start to really have an appreciation for um he's playing to position there's a lot of guys that are really good they're really scary that just are making throws or they beat you with their feet he is playing the spot you know I just several times found myself back in the quarterback coaching chair and like bum bum bum bum bum bum bum I mean he's there's some Rhythm there and there's some Temple and you got to appreciate it first off so much to get into there but first off shout out to coach Tim pic and North Dakota state for keeping it classy and not taking any shots how about that some mutual respect for week one Scott you got to love see it you love to see it man if that uh that clip right there don't get you fired up for Thursday night's game or shador Sanders final college football season I don't I nothing will mhm that's great stuff right there great Insight from Coach P again somebody who knows football and offensive football as a offensive coordinator on the offensive staff at uh Iowa you know a handful of years ago so that guy knows ball and you can hear it when you know he talks about shador and what he sees out of you know number two watching him on film said he is the best player North Dakota state will have played against um yeah I mean that's high praise and you know he went through talking about how he said he pulled up shor's top 250 plays from PFF wow and kind of just broke him down I mean he's really done his homework on shador and you know he said he's a first round draft pick all the things that he does well which is all that we've been saying you've been saying 100% so shout out to all the haters out there Twitter Youtube otherwise who try to say that shador isn't this or that um yep it's right there there it is and I think it was it was great timing too because actually this morning I published a story on the Colorado end talking about why shador Sanders is arguably the best quarterback in college football and it was three reasons that I want to get into quickly if I can sure situational football is huge particularly from the quarterback situation two situations that come up often and are important in deciding football games in the Red Zone in the fourth quarter right so in the Red Zone last year these numbers are according to 24/7 Clint Brewster shout out to him tweets about shadur you might have seen him some of his stats and I kind of just flesh it out into a fuller story right that's coach uh Tim Brewster's son he knows ball he knows ball knows former college quarterback himself as well so in the Red Zone last season Shor Sanders make sure I get this right threw 15 touchdowns to just one interception that's pretty good right not bad in the fourth quarter right Brady mode right in the fourth quarter shador completed 7 2% of his passes for 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions mhm and then how you play against top competition is a important factor into the success of a quarterback especially one that has you know plans of playing in the NFL y obviously shador played in 10 full games last year right excluding the the game he missed in you know the three quarters of the Washington State game that he left early six games against top 25 opponents last year shador played again against those top 25 teams he completed 64% of his passes 10 touchdowns one interception that's a ball that's Elite stuff man and obviously you compare those numbers uh Brewster also had those numbers on Carson Beck you know who is a first team AP All America on the preseason all Awards all the awards you know so and shador is uh pretty much better than him across the board even Dylan gabw who got second team APL America the Oregon quarterback the former Oklahoma quarterback um shador has got him uh you know in those very specific albeit important statistics so it's uh shador is one of the best in college football if not the best coach POC and DSU head coach certainly agrees uh he is the best quarterback in college football for my money I mean there's no one better at commanding the game being a leader being a good teammate and I love what you said too about playing the position it again as a former quarterback myself great great point that is uh that's genius stuff because again he mentioned like you look at guys who are just so physically gifted right whether it be with their arm Talent or they're able to use use use of their legs you know shador doesn't he's not the most athletic right he doesn't have the biggest strongest arm but he's accurate as all hell and again his processor you know his brain is the thing that makes him such an elite signal caller quarterback for sure no doubt man that's great stuff all right just a few more news and not notes to get to before we get to questions get your questions in the chat now for Scott and I we will get to them shortly uh first thing this happened over the weekend coach Prime partners with a bank a local bank to give players News & Notes who are parents on the team accounts bank accounts for their children yeah 2121 $2,121 to get those kids started um I never ever want to hear again how coach only cares about his sons and Travis all that because no one else is doing that in college football that's lifechanging stuff man yes it is and that's that's the definition of bigger than ball bigger than football you know what I'm saying or you know you have you know a few guys in in your program in your locker room on the Colorado football roster who were legit legitimately shaping the Next Generation you know with their with their children or what not so that that can't be that can't be taken lightly and that's that's awesome I I do remember seeing you know coach Prime tweet about it like the day or two before like I need to partner with a bank like what's up who try to go crazy and you know a day or two later you got something special like that going on that's pretty cool all around very cool man um that's just the advantage of playing at Colorado um doesn't happen everywhere else yeah our guy Xavier Weaver had a big big big big time week three preseason game for the Arizona Cardinals they took on my Broncos uh yesterday at Mile High of it's a preseason game three right yeah so you're not not going to see much of uh starters it's not frankly it's very not quality football either too though it's for the uh The Fringe guys right trying to make a roster trying to make a team it's exactly for guys like Z Weaver and man he went out and showed out led the team and receiving had two receptions for 56 yards including a 43 y he had four targets um and then again in the return game man and you know you talk about special teams and these guys who are on the roster bubble that is exactly how you were in a roster spot in the NFL Z Weaver uh kick returns had two attempts for 55 yards including a 32 yard kick return and then also had two punt returns uh one for 10 yards one for six 16 return yards just showing how versatile he is this guy is such a lock to make the roster it's I think so a lock he's a lock Z Jones five game suspension big that's big um what he's done he's done it every game for the Cardinals this preseason 100% yeah and you you you touched on it tooo man that versatility especially when you're talking about Fringe guys make a roster your ability to play multiple positions and do multiple things will give you the edge over another Fringe guy and that's what Xavier Weaver has done like I remember him catching punts at his pro day here in Boulder you know back in whatever that was April or so and obviously that's something that NFL Scouts wanted to see it's something that he has the ability to do and again with the uh even with the uh the NFL kickoff rules changing you know now for this season like teams are putting an emphasis on you know how effective they can be in the return game and obviously Z has shown the ability to to be solid at that and again if that's something that he can do for the Cardinals that's going to be a reason why you know they might keep him on the roster but it's been cool watching him ball make plays on offense obviously as well as as a returner and just hearing some of the coach Ganon Arizona Cardinals head coach too they yeah they they love him man they're glowing about him and I think I think it was the OC ping I believe is his name is something like that you know just talk about he just seems unflappable like nothing nothing you know can bother him or get him off his Square whether it's a you know a third down and you know a team period or you know something else back there catching punts you know when 11 guys in your other side of the ball trying to take your head off I think uh he's built differently from a mental standpoint and that's going to help him you know show what he's capable of physically yep um th ping K th pen Kings just nailed it get him out of that number 30 for real um for real for real I think he's a virtual lock to make this roster but if not he's going to land somewhere he's put enough on film that somebody will certainly pick them up no doubt no doubt um we've been talking we've kind of tabled a lot of the realignment talk recently we haven't really talked too much about Yukon there was some Buzz about them joining the Big 12 though uh Pete theel had a tweet today the Big 12 president 80s met with Yukon today no vote was taken on admitting the huskys as expected the call was in informational in nature and discussion focused it was led by the big 12's outside consultant which walked through yukon's media and market value um so that's still in flux the latest news that we saw last week was football in 2031 and then full Sports I think in 25 or 26 in the next few years but just something to keep an eye on there does that move you does you conf potentially being added to the Big 12 M I didn't think so it don't really do nothing for me either I mean that's a I know this is not a big basketball podcast that's a big deal in basketball 100% I guess I'm just talking thinking specifically through football lens but basketball yeah that's a different anal big big 12 is probably going to be the best basketball conference in the country you had Yukon that's going to be that's nuts true true it would be but I think they need to focus on the Clemson the Virginia Tech and the miamis of the world me personally agreed yeah that's what this what this s alignment is about it's about you know uh bolstering your name in football because that's where the money comes from that's where the money is where the money reside uh week zero we kind of talked about FSU GT on a Saturday show you have any takeaways from that game or the weekend in general lots of great football being played uh exciting games yeah man it was a big weekend for The Underdogs man it was big weekend for The Underdogs whether they were winning outright or covering this spread uh yeah I watched most of that Florida State Georgia Tech game and man was Florida State unimpressive yes they were super unimpressive dju I mean uh he was talk you know about quite a bit you know coming over from Clemson and whatnot uh for good and bad reasons and um yeah he just you know looked out of sorts that passing game looked out of sorts particularly after last season because they were so explosive right with with uh Jordan Travis and you know Keon and Johnny Johnny Wilson I believe yeah so they had an exp was on that team explosive passing game in offense as well and that is uh not that offense Florida State on Saturday looked like Clemson's offense for the last you know year or two which is not ideal and not going to win a lot of games in the ACC particularly with that schedule I mean I'm sure again with the new you know cfp you know kind of set up a week zero loss isn't the end of the world you know you know I think back to Oklahoma State last year losing early in the season to South Alabama and then going on a run and obviously going all the way to play in the Big 12 championship game so you know week zero loss early season losses is the end of the world but uh things not looking great for them boys in Tallahassee or for former CU buff commit DJ Lundy yes you know I don't know if you saw him he was out there obviously quite a bit and um and whatnot but yeah it was uh it was interesting it was interesting for sure I'm glad college football is back though man it was dope just to watch a live you know game this weekend unreal um RC and I were hanging out with a buddy just drinking beers on Saturday after the show and it's just it's Heaven man love it uh the SMU Nevada game was very interesting to former CU quarterback Brendan Lewis the starting quarterback for the wolf pack for the second straight season um actually had a decent game when you look at the box score 14 of 26 132 passing yards for two touchdowns and also ran 18 times for 77 yards Nevada was up um they had control this game and then SMU just came roaring back just started chucking it uh hit on a few big passes uh they were kind of shuffling quarterbacks in and out too but they came back I believe from a uh was at least 17 to 10 it might have been 24- 10 uh deficit that they came back to win with 16 uh fourth quarter points massive comeback in that New Mexico Montana State game as well that was a wild game um that's really about it uh Hawaii um you know put the business on Delaware State although the Hornets did Cover so shout out to everyone uh like me who took the dogs on Saturday that's about Superchats it what do we got in the questions today super chats first grant what's up man thank you for your Super Chat keep up the amazing work as the Buffs make their first playoff run I propose starting tomorrow you clip every cringey pun arcade drops and compile an end of season highlight or low light reel that's a good one y'all gotta do that he's he's got a lot of them bro he's got a lot of them the problem with that is that that video by the end of the season would be 72 hours long exactly exactly um yeah I mean it'd be great content but I'm not willing to go back and uh clip all of 800 of rk's uh puns from the last year that's a chore right there thank you grant for the Super Chat shout out to Warren who's back in the super chats with a super stick ER sunglasses perpetually fall onto video game controllers proud face hell yeah appreciate you Warren uh what's up Ivan what are you looking forward to seeing the most on Questions Thursday besides the actual season and the Buffs uh and Buffs ball starting of course you want to start man I'm looking for a few things man I mentioned it earlier I'm really interested and excited to see Jordan Sean's first college football action I'm really excited to see how shador Sanders comes out in his first game of his final college football season I think he's coming out really motivated ready to make a statement and he's going to have an opponent on a national stage that he's going to be able to do that against and defensively this pass rush man this pass rush I can't wait to see BJ Green in action Deion Hayes in action in particular as well as some of those other guys up front so uh those three things in particular I'm really elated to find out about love it um for me it's mostly the new guys as well um particularly the transfer and guys at uh big positions of impact defensive line chido tan Carter um even on the edge rushers BJ Sam Deon uh those are the guys I'm looking forward to seeing the most uh also Preston Preston and DJ can't wait to see them go out and work same uh I think they'll have some opportunities to make some plays on the football um but that's obviously burying the headline it's Travis and shador yeah I'm just excited to watch those guys play football again yeah it's almost crazy how at least to me like Travis kind of flies under the radar sometimes as arguably the most versatile best player in college football but you know he's he's just a naturally quiet dude not in the media often if ever so I think you know from that standpoint you know people kind of might forget about him throughout the you know rough of an offseason but yeah once he get out there on the field between them white lines I think he's going to quickly remind everybody why you know he is who he is emis uh Scott do you play CFB 25 or Madden appreciate the question aremis not no more not currently man I used to be a huge Madden like I used to buy Madden every year starting from like Madden 04 well Michael Vic on it up until like I don't even know like 16 or something but uh over the last couple years yeah I just haven't really had much time I'm still pressed I didn't get a chance to play CF college football 25 yet but I need a new system and that's that's just show you that's just show you how out of the video game business I am you know I got to upgrade my system before I get on the on a new game but um yeah I don't I don't play him too much often I Needmore I know you do right oh yeah yeah oh yeah actually I heard you got the Bel to ass by Arcade not too L not too long ago I was going to wait till tomorrow to address this because he's here um yes look we took a bad L um there's not there's no shame in that there's no I heard like that though RK is the best football video game player I've ever met that's he's like that for sure let me tell you though the Buffs are like that in the game Travis is unguardable yeah I believe it I mean unless I'm going playing prevent three deep like there's no way to guard that guy yeah crazy uh I was trying to use her the safety get over the top I can't even get over the top in time he just runs right by who are you playing with uh my old Miss Rebels okay okay um so oh Miss D should be decent on there right obviously I haven't played it I mean yeah we're pretty good but uh Dart and the running back humbled early on gave him an early possession uh that'll do it yeah and then it's just I mean I was trying to play catch up from the second quarter on because it was he already put 42 on me because Travis and shador are just ridiculous in that game so um but yeah it is what it is who scores the first tutty Gino asks I will go with Charlie offerall I like that answer I was going to I was gonna that was my first gut but then I thought a little bit more shadora to will Shepard all right opening touchdown of the 2024 season for the Colorado Buffalo love it speezy says what do you think the biggest X Factor will be that's a great question uh I think uh the coordinators on both sides for CU coach Shermer how he plans to dial up you know this this run game and balance it with you know shor's you know crazy talent and obviously the talent that they have on the perimeter at receiver and obviously Livingston as well again how he deploys you know some of these defensive Playmakers particularly up front how he's you know because he has talked about we talked a lot about Coach Prime has talked a lot about Travis being able to be moved around that secondary quite a bit with some of their additions you know at corner with you know Preston and DJ so um seeing guys maybe lined up in different spots on different places of the field and I think again living city is going to get real creative so I'm I'm excited to see what he uh what he gets out there um I didn't answer um my ex Factor let me go with Sam Hart um Talk to Me Explain the value we heard it last week who said it um I know coach Prime said on Saturday that he was asked about the tight end that's what it was it was coach Prime who said it on Saturday right the value of a tight end in this offense I think can completely change this offense um especially one like Sam Hart who can block block first and receive second like coach Prime says um I just think that they're going to have more success they're going to have more mass up front obviously too but um I just think that because of him they're going to be less onedimensional um and just more versatile with him on the field and uh it wouldn't surprise me if he has a few catches in the open field and kind of rip some open because we saw Mikey get plenty of opportunities shador look at him a lot last year so oh yeah um terms of a true X Factor that's who I'll go with I like that what's up Warren do we open the game up enough to see a backup quarterback gosh I hope I think so I think I said it on another podcast I would expect to see some Ryan St reps on Thursday oh yeah I love it um sure why not Bernard hey Jak and Scott what would be the biggest surprise we could should expect from Thursday's game biggest surprise uh I think it's guys that we haven't seen too much of you kind of mentioned it with Jordan I don't think we've seen they've been very careful I think showing stuff from Sam Taj um I don't think we've seen too much you know I guess we have seen a little bit of DJ but not a lot of Cam and cam straight up told us that in the offseason too don't talk about me so um I think those guys could be surprises and then uh just in general the offensive line from a national perspective I think that could be the big takeaway that the nation talks about after this game on Thursday yeah in terms of like surprises from like the outside world and because this this wouldn't be a surprise to people who follow the bus closely but I think Charlie arford do is going to prove to the National stage that I'm not just a former walk-on like I'm really like that like coach Prime didn't you know do all of that crying with me and my family at the spring game putting me on scholarship for no reason they're just for clicks or just to look good y i I'm really like that I can play again I think Charlie's going to get the first look uh the first Carry of the game on Thursday night for the Buffs and I think he's going to have a big opportunity to to run wild and show that he's really like that he's going to lead that that back field at least to start the season I love it I can't wait to see him as well man in this entire stable of backs marleene where is the dmvr tailgate tailgate is on the corner of a rapaho and 28th in Boulder if you go to dmvr the dvr.com events uh you can find the little um page for the tailgate uh buy your ticket and all that we even got a little map up there too um if you just want to stop by you can I think buy tickets too at the tailgate if you don't want to buy them online for whatever reason so um everything need to know either check the Buffs account dmvr Buffs on Twitter or go to the dvr.com events on the website Final Super Chat from Don peasy our guy again great show love when y'all talk ball per last show my hot take is the Buffs will have three first round draft picks uh this year can't wait for Thursday hell yeah Don peasy um I think three might be a little uh might be selling them a little bit short there coach Prime said four I was going to say yeah coach Prim certainly thinks it's going to be a so yeah then big tez our guy big Tey in the house with a super sticker pair character lying on the side raising his arms while saying how's it going how's it going big teas that's it boys that is it tomorrow RK will be back um also um with that I mean big all city news today we launched DLS uh Dallas the Dallas branch is up and running uh they had an emergency show first day too CD lamb extension it was meant to be it was meant to be that's what I said
