I realize after October 7th nothing nothing will stop me I owe this to my children to my grandchildren and to their children this is not the world we're going to live in Hamas or the mulas in Iran will not dictate our future welcome to another episode of in our neighborhood today we have a very unique guest raan Osman who's been an outspoken advocate for truth and Clarity here in the Middle East so I want first of all thank you for being here my pleasure you're this unique combination of your Syrian Lebanese grown-up Muslim in Christian schools now connecting to uh Judaism and Zionism I'd be really interested in hearing how the The Experience touched you traveling through Israel after October 7th um because it's it's both the worst of times and the best of times I think to be in Israel where the most alive we've been as a people in a very long time but also the most Shell Shocked traumatized uh fearful that we've been in a very long time I'll tell you that I came to Israel on the first of the 1 that was my first trip after October 7th I've been contemplating visiting Israel and I have a European passport I can do it but I Knew by doing so I can't return to many countries such as Lebanon and Syria in the future but after October 7th I took a decision in a heartbeat I'm coming because I'm choosing aside and I didn't hesitate I needed to come here to give a haug to the people to tell them no it's not all right and I needed to tell them that I have friends who wept Muslims Arabs not everyone uh conds terrorism in your neighboring countries they needed to know this that many people sympathize with you this is not acceptable but they are afraid of speaking up again I encourage everybody to speak up because what is the alternative how how much worse should the situation become for them to say no I am ready to lose the friends who will condemn me because otherwise we are facing an atrocious Destiny are you talking about people in Islamic countries or people in European countries I'm talking about those who live in the west Muslims Lebanese syrians Iranians who live in Australia who live in Canada who live in Brazil what are you afraid of by coming to Israel I voluntarily give up the right to ever return to Lebanon and Syria watching people celebrate what happened on October 7th is not acceptable I don't need to go back there when I miss the Middle East I will come to Israel happily and it's more than enough for me I also chose my people so before October 7th for a while I've been in the conversion process Orthodox conversion to to Judaism and I didn't share this with anybody because it didn't need to make sense to anyone it makes sense to me this is my personal Journey however after October 7th I decided to share that I wanted to tell the Jews that I am one of you and may my faith be yours I know that this camp the pro-israel camp is dramatically outnumbered but I also know that Israel will we can still make the distinction between right and wrong let me ask you a moral question or a philosophical question so you've I mean you've gone through this long transition I guess but what would you say to someone who says well it's only if you become like a Jew you can support the Jews can someone who is a a active devout Muslim also share the sentiment in the world viiew you have I I truly believe it's possible this is why we started a project on social media um social media Instagram reals limited to 90 seconds yeah and what we do we are a group of nine some are historians experts on anti-Semitism um our content is very light is ABC because the Arab world knows zero about Israel due to anti normalization laws and policies everything we know about Israel is told by by ourselves so it's a designed narrative so we started this project on social media because it can reach anyone anywhere it's in Arabic with English subtitles or in English with Arabic subtitles and we explain basic facts like for example Jerusalem wasn't mentioned not even once in the Quran yeah so we try to tell them accept that Mecca and Medina are holy cities for you and Jerusalem has the same value for the Jews so we're promoting acceptance tolerance for them to understand it's not a conspiracy what's happening in the Middle East we try to EXP why the Jews returned not to steal a Palestine it did not exist a Palestine with political borders like people not know that no I learned when I was 11 or 12 in history class and this is this is the official curric curriculum in Progressive Lebanon I learned the name of Theodor hatel it's one lesson it's the antagonist Theodor hatel the father of Zionism who organized uh the first Zionist Cong in Basel you learn the date and the plan and the plan was to for European jury because they are Europeans to return to the Middle East and steal Palestine when they say this a child it implies that Palestine was a country with specific political borders yeah and as a child you don't question okay Lebanon is new because you learned the history Syria is new we don't talk about Jordan because that might raise questions and you carry on living thinking they came those Europeans came and stole the land the the Palestine from the poor Palestinians they are thieves they are oppressors and you carry on knowing only that about the Jews so we try to explain the obvious appealing to an Arab even to a devout Muslim what do you know about the Israelis where was the first time you heard about them in the Quran in the Quran they talk about B is why and they were promised a land because they in indous to this land and we try to interview a lot of people to tell about their background from Morocco from Yemen from Ethiopia from Iraq they are part of this Mosaic in the Middle East they belong among us would you say most young Muslim Arabs aren't aware of these facts surprisingly as it may sound no they are not aware and they surprise when we introduce someone whose grandparents and great-grandparents lived in Jerusalem just here or in spat your narrative like the Israeli narrative is omitted from the collective Consciousness in the Arab world nobody's interested because then you start digging deeper and you might develop Sympathy for the Jew that's what I was thinking where if you don't know anything about your opponent so to speak it's so easy to like superimpose on them any story and any any lie that you want to and the minute there's familiarity the minute that you know a a shade of the humanity of that person it becomes very very hard to believe diabolical stories about them this is the process like it is the intention yeah behind the anti normalization laws and policies in the Arab world they humanized the Jew you don't sympathize with them this is why for example we learn nothing about the Holocaust zero what happened to the Jews if you ever hear in the adabible the Holocaust ah yeah yeah yeah that's the story made up by the Jews exaggerating numbers because they want to play the victim yeah and so it's depicted in a pathetic and disgusting way or denied Ahmed NAD was the president of Iran and he dared deny it on a global level he wasn't ashamed although the Germans are very good in documenting in archives they are the bureaucrats you cannot deny what the Germans recorded very well what we do in this project um on social media because we need to reach the young the youngsters not only explain Judaism in Israel but also um in a very clear way address what happened on October 7th because there are those who don't know much about the Israelis but there are those who are happy with what happened to the Israelis there are many who are Liars who are cruel for example until now in the Arab world the media or many deny and when I say many I'm talking about professionals about academics about politicians who deny that Hamas targeted civilans okay we've seen the hostages return and among them were children children and elderly yeah people saw that and they still tell you civilians were not targeted the first time I came to Israel I went to the nef and I wanted to meet Aisha not only civilians were targeted but everyone in Israel was targeted whether they're Israeli or not whether they're Jewish or not and Aisha wears a headscarf you cannot mistake her for a Jewish girl and she she was obviously young and I wanted to meet her first I must admit I was concerned for her safety because nobody even CNN BBC nobody could see her she was released where is the girl what happened to her so that was a tough process the bedwin sister and brother that were released I yes yeah so I met both of them and I needed to see Aisha and I needed to tell the world to Muslims I met her she has a head scar yeah why did they kidnap her and what do you mean civilians were not targeted she's a kid she's is obviously very young and a Muslim and yet she was kidnapped and we don't know what happened because she wasn't capable of speaking she's she's that traumatized so people in the Arab world in this day and age in the age of social media have seen what happened yeah many Saw and they're happy and you have to go a step further and tell them this is not acceptable would you like that guy who's treating who's beating a woman up would you like him to be your neighbor if you have daughters would you trust him no okay so what are we discussing Hamas has to go I think there there's an underlying issue here where often times when people in the west think about the Middle East it's an Us and Them conversation yeah and then it sort of like it clicks together with anti-Semitism that is sadly ingrained in many Societies in the world as long as it's happening to the Jews over there we're okay with that as long as it's Muslim onm Muslim violence over there were okay with that they never make the mental step of if we don't deal with it there it will arrive here and it's going to become our problem and then they they live in this U moral ambiguity um sort of limbo where they can never directly speak to what's actually happening so say oh well it's just them that that are doing it it's never going to come to us and they don't understand that what happens here will eventually show up on the shores of Europe and it has has in European countries don't know how to deal with Islamic violence and sexual violence it's not unique here uh the press in Europe has had a huge problem dealing with it their governments have had a problem dealing with it because of the same level of violence and uh radicalized Islamic sort of ideology that existed in Hamas on October 7th will find its way also to Europe if it's not treated with uh we've seen the Isis Flags recently waved in Amsterdam yeah H we've seen calls for a caliphate in the UK in Germany and as you said especially Europe they don't know how to handle the situation but about that point of people being indifferent because it's not my problem yeah this attitude showed us that it can be catastrophic and I give you an example from as a Syrian the world let the syrians down yeah and it became everybody's problem because you cannot ignore a dictator killing hundreds of thousands of his own civilians it wasn't a war across borders but people thought it's the syrians it's their problem until the syrians walked to over to Europe they they came to you they walked you don't give them visas you're not going to save them they walked over because they were that desperate and I was living in Germany at the time Germany with its history with Nazism being led by Angela Marco who has a good heart welcomed the Syrian it was the moment where someone had to do something and she said they are shuen dust we can do it yeah and I was thinking I was happy because I wanted Syrian heal but I was thinking especially as a woman you're inviting into this country misogynists and anti-semites yeah not all of them but I lived a few years in Syria and it was a cultural shock coming from Lebanon to Syria how women are treated and how widespread anti-semitism is and I only say this after October 7th because we need to call a spade a spade unless we have a diagnosis we can't solve the issue I used to be an anti-semite myself until I lived among Jews in Europe opened up my which opened up my eyes and I realized that I was brainwashed as I recovered anti-mite living in Germany admiring the process of reconciliation between the Germans and the Jews because this is the model we could apply everywhere on planet Earth which gives us hope and now it's being jeopardized the syrians who have minec in every bookstore the protocols of the Elders of Zion and they think these are true stories now they come over to Germany that reconciliation process was being jeopardized and sooner or later um stories horrific stories of rape and gang rape started arising and then Europe woke up like oops how do we deal with some said maybe a solution would be threatening them of deportation and actually doing it sometimes so that they understand if you come here you have to accept the W Western values if you come here you have to understand that this guy wearing aipa is not your enemy until October 7th where we realized we have a bigger problem the far left romanticizing Bloodshed and calling Hamas terrorist Freedom Fighters yeah we live in a very complex world I I'm interested on on a psychological level a spiritual level um what is it that keeps you motivated because you seem passionate about what you're doing you're doing things that from the outside seem to be both countercultural and carry risk and resistance probably on every level when you wake up in the morning or when you get hate mail or or death threats uh or you know calls of you know maybe you shouldn't do this a this isn't a good idea what is it that sort of keeps you moving forward imuna Faith MH without it I wouldn't be able to get out of bed what kind of faith I was an atheist all my life MH had I not been shown the light had Hashem not shown me that there is something Beyond this world I wouldn't be able to get out of bed it's frightening and I feel for those who don't have the faith in in a god guiding our way um we don't stand a chance mathema Ally speaking we are outnumbered this imuna this faith that the Jews will prevail Israel and its friends will win this fight the fact that Hashem helped the Jews many times before and he will again this keeps me going and I realize after October 7th nothing nothing will stop me MH I owe this to my children to my grandchildren and to their children this is not the world we're going to live in Hamas or the mulas in Iran will not dictate our future we want Hamas gone as an organization obliterated dismantled and then we move on and let's not talk about what happens in Gaza afterwards first we have to deal with this yeah and we will move on I want to ask you a philosophical question you know you you've done so many things you've lived in so many countries who isan like how do you identify yourself as a person I'm not talking about just the titles uh like what is it that um that you're aspiring to what is it that you're working towards I'm a mother very angry at the moment since October 7th MH and I want the Middle East conflict solved I always tell this anecdote if I'm speaking publicly when I decided to solve the Middle East conflict and people laugh it always I find it unacceptable when politicians uh say when they're joking ah we're not going to solve the Middle East conflict why not it's a political issue yeah I as a child sat many times not in a bomb shelter in the pantry we weren't safe but apparently my parents thought behind the washing machine we will be safe but I know how terrified you are as a child you don't care why the war is happening you just want it to stop yeah I still feel that and as a mother my child is safe he's never been in a conflict Zone when I said I'm flying to Israel like this is something you can't comprehend what do you mean it's a it's a conflict Zone it's a war zone why yeah we grew up there there are still hundreds of thousands of children living in these conditions like when we think about Gaza now and I see that the world is outraged did you forget about those thousands of Syrian children living in idlid or in camps around Syria do you see the conditions many of them don't go to school for 10 years as a mom I feel this is what moves me the most having been in a conflict Zone living through many wars um I'm grateful for that because I don't think I would have had the same understanding of what's going on now had I not been part of it I wouldn't understand how deeply rooted anti-Semitism is had I not been living in Lebanon in Syria I understand the system because I grew up in it I must add that I been an Atheist all my life and then I decided to study Islamic Studies and Jewish studies in order to understand the root of the problem between Muslims and Jews during my Jewish studies part of the degree is speaking to a rabbi who was given a very general class what is Judaism and through him I found wisdom it resonated so deeply with me first I had to understand the fact that I accept as a Creator and I found home in Judaism this is a different topic but it it was like a gift what I want to tell you is that I felt guilty guilty because I know how widespread hatred and darkness and evil are in the in the Arab world and I was wondering why was I shown the light and others weren't until after October 7 I had a meeting in Manhattan with a rabbi at the end he told me welcome home I'm happy you read the signs I suddenly stopped because I was absolved of my guilt I realized that we all shown the light we all see signs in our lives we choose to accept them or not yeah to the extent that even a Hamas terrorist in Gaza could have seen a child hiding in a safe room and ignored it and maybe it happened and maybe in the future we will hear such stories we always have a choice and this is um what it boils down in Judaism according to this Rabbi I took a class with he said in Judaism you expected to be a better person a little bit every day and I see the light I was shown as a responsibility it's a Grace bestowed upon me for which I'm grateful but it comes with responsibility and I have to give back to my people and this doesn't mean that the Jews are my people and the rest in the Middle East um aren't they aren't my enemies these are my peoples these are layers of who I am I own my story but now my Jewish people need me and this is why I won't stop until Hamas is a sad story we tell our grandchildren about this horrific event that took place but we did our best to repair the world the Middle East afterwards I think that's a great way to end on a hopeful note I want to end with some words of gratitude to you one of course for taking the time to to share your story and and talk but also for your commitment to telling the truth on your commitment to moral Clarity and your commitment to take a risk uh to to sound that voice and I want to thank you as an Israeli for standing and supporting our country our people I think it's deeply valuable more than you could probably imagine today so thank you both personally and collectively for everyone it's my moral obligation yes Strangely I am the exception and normal is to stand against Israel even if we side with Hamas yeah but we're going to have to live with this and fight to change
