Platform. Your throws change, your footwork changes, and all of a sudden you get in the game. That's what happens. You're not prepared for the bullets flying for real, the defenders playing for real. And he looked a little bit flustered at times. Ruben yeah, I don't disagree with any of that, but what do you get in exchange for that? You get you know he's going to be healthy coming into week one. And that's that's what Nick that's how he looks at it. He's like, well, I disagree. He might be I know you do. And I don't totally agree either. But he's always going to be this way. He's not going to play him because I mean he's four. And oh in openers they I mean the New England game was just as ugly last year as this one was. But they're winning those games. Jalen is healthy coming into week one and that's what Nick's going to do. That's just the way he's going to do it. He got hit an awful lot today. He got drilled I thought he really got beaten up. And that might have been the difference. You play in the preseason sure. You takes your chances, but if you get through the preseason, maybe you're a little better prepared. Pat Mahomes played in the preseason and they ended many of the starters played. I'm not saying you play a full game Reuben I think that's I don't want to be misunderstood on that. You need a series to series get get some live action, get the feel of the real NFL game, not a preseason. Here's the other thing. I don't take that red jersey off. I don't think playing a series or two is going to make a in. We in the second preseason game, three weeks before the opener is going to make a huge difference. It absolutely does, because let me tell you why it does. Let me tell you why it does. Play him in the third game. Let me tell you why it does as a player. You go out there and you get live bullets out there. Jalen Hurts did not have a red jersey on the Green Bay Packers trying to take his head off. You don't get that when you have a red jersey. A ton of football in his life. I played a ton of football in my life. It doesn't mean that I play better if I don't have the reps that going into the game. You just play better when you've had those reps throughout the game. All right, how about this though? He had 13 carries for 33 yards 2.5 yards per carry. I remember that when that was 679 yards per carry. It's the effect of him taking the ball and running it for whatever reason, is not what it was, at least not tonight. Those are the rushes. Yeah, those are a couple of sacks. So now you're talking at 15. Now, how many times did he get hit after he threw the ball a ton, a lot a lot. He got hit in this game. And it messes up your timing and your head. If you don't have the time. If you don't. Offensive line needs to know where you're going to be at. You don't get that timing with them. You know how they're blocking for you. Your reaction on how you need to be in the pocket, where you need to step up in all that timing is off when you don't play in the game. But you know, it was also off at the end of last year and he played all year. I just I don't think I think that's an oversimplification. Do you think he's as off now as he was at the end of last year? Oh simplification is the reason that they think that they can go out and do that. Though his decision making tonight was not good as far as throwing and running. He made some nice throws. He made some nice plays in the middle, made some great plays. But his judgment, his decision making was not good and it wasn't good at the end of last year. I'm not going to say it was as bad, but I look, what's the excuse at the end of last year? I mean, 16 games, 15 games. I just want to point out one more time that they won the game. They did win the game 3429. I got a quarterback. Got to be better. He's got to be got to go to presented by our friends at Team Toyota. And we're looking at Jalen Hurts and Jordan Love and Jordan Love. We hope he's okay. He got injured at the end of the game. Was helped off the field with five seconds left. And there's Jalen Hurts 20 of 30 for 278. Two touchdowns two interceptions. Both seem to be unnecessary. And 80 rating at one point before he threw the second interception, it was 103. And then it dipped to the 80 where you see now 33 rushing yards on 13 attempts. And there are Jordan Love's numbers. So he he he did however, slightly outperform this vaunted Jordan Love who almost had the Packers in the NFC Championship. Jordan Love played awful at times. He made some bad decisions. He made some horrible throws. He left the pocket pretty much, you know, way premature. I thought he was really off today. They dropped about five balls on him as well. So that was our advantage right. Maybe maybe it was from the Eagles defensive pressure. What did you think of the Eagles D I didn't see enough pressure from the guys up front. I needed more from the outside. I thought we paid a guy 50 something million dollars to rush the passer from the outside, and I didn't see him. I think he wore the number. What? Zero? I thought that I thought they pressured. I thought they pressured pretty well zero sacks today for him. Yeah, I think they had the one sack from Zack Baun had the one sack at the end. Did you Shea Zack Baun the MVP? No, he had two. He had two. He had another one at the end the last play. He was phenomenal. But I thought I thought they pressured from the from the inside pretty well. Even though they weren't getting sacks I thought he was rushed a lot. I think that's one of the reasons his his numbers weren't great inside. Yes, from the inside. Yeah, I didn't see I think Sweat had one like one good pressure, but I didn't see a lot from the edge guys at all. Right, right, right. And I mean you've got to have those guys out there playing, you know, for this defense to work the way it's supposed to work, you know. And if you don't do that, then you've got to rely on those guys from the inside to blitz more. You know, I think that, you know, up front, Williams played you know, pretty good. I think Davis you know at times, you know when he was out there he played well. And Carter you know he showed up. You know he got double teamed a lot. He got that much attention. But you know that comes with being you know the man you know what they call him. He him. Well he was that guy out there you know what I'm saying. But he's getting doubled. Somebody else has got to take advantage. Exactly. And they didn't do that early in the game. I thought Josh Jacobs would be a factor. I thought he did, but the interior of the defensive line really held up. And Jacobs was held was held the whole game. The second half, he got it going a little bit for 80 yards total. But first half when they were giving him the football, he wasn't he wasn't doing a thing. I think the field condition was pretty bad and I think that had a lot to do with I mean, both running backs seemed to have trouble getting started early. I don't know if they changed their cleats or we saw them kind of work. They were bringing cleats out to certain guys. But that field, I mean, that was kind of like a Super Bowl. Super Bowl. Yeah, it's a different surface. You play with soccer everywhere. Yeah. You know, soccer's slipping on every play. It was that field was unfit for NFL play. Yeah. And yet they took him down there nine hour flight etc. But but that's that's okay. You know we won. Yes. When do we get to talk about one. And oh let's talk about Saquon. Our Triple-A MVP. Thank you Reuben Frank. Saquon Barkley who has 100. And what 132 combined yards 109 from scrimmage. He averages 4.5 yards per carry. And I think he's everything that was advertised. And we wondered is this going to be the guy from the first couple of years of his career? Is going to be the guy who gets hurt, the guy who is a little less effective. He was everything, wasn't he? 24 carries. And, you know, we talked about him having I said I wanted him to have over 20 carries, 20 carries, the least amount of carries or touches of the touches, touches that we needed him to play in order for us to be successful in offense. And it just goes to show he's well worth the money we're paying for him. Kahleah will route ran the ball up the middle was, you know, get the tough yardage. You know he did everything from a player standpoint that we need him to do to win this game. You like the number of carries. You like the number of touches. He can only carry the ball if he's told to carry the ball around 20. I would agree with Barrett. 24 starts getting a little high but you know they had the lead. They're icing the ball a little bit. And I love the style of runs. They ran the duo blocks. Yeah you're getting 2-on-1 guys up front. You're not worried about blocking linebackers. You're taking a defensive tackle and throwing them into the lap of a linebacker. Those duo blocks were very good. Once they got the feel for coming off the ball, they started moving some people on that Packer defensive line. I like how how Barkley was strong at the end of the game, a game he had 26 touches and he was still effective late in the game. That's that's what you get with a big back. I think my favorite thing about Saquon tonight was was after the Reed Blankenship interception down at the 16 yard line, he had the ball three straight plays. He got like five nine. And then the touchdown was three straight carries by Saquon up the middle. And that's great play calling. It's the hot hand. It's sticking with the guy who's having a good game. And they couldn't stop him. The touchdown run was sensational. Single individual effort. He got through the hole. There was a safety in the hole. Never laid a hand on him. Made him a whip. Yeah. And you can take an NFL safety not having to touch you and take it to the end zone. That tells you about his ability. How about that touchdown I mean that's a wide receiver catch. You don't see running backs making that play. No Woll route. Yeah yeah. The other thing is there's still only one ball. And it seemed to be distributed evenly so that everybody's happy. And we know that that has not been the case always. You know AJ got his balls. Don't worry AJ had five catches for 119 yards. He averaged almost 24 yards per catch a long of 67 yards. That's that's unbelievable. DeVonta Smith 84 yards receiving. And by the way 31 if I can interrupt DeVonta isn't going to get the attention that AJ got or Saquon I thought he was huge. I thought DeVonta made some tough catches. He converted two second and longs on that last drive. Sealed the deal on the field goal drive. He made some guys miss on the second one. Yep, some missed tackles. You know I mean he's just so smooth so tough so clutch. Nobody's going to kind of talk about him because they got some superstars on that field too. But I was really impressed with DeVonta tonight. That's the point though. They do have superstars. The superstars all got the ball. Hurts got the ball, Barkley got the ball, DeVonta got the ball and so did AJ Brown. He got more touches. Will Shipley needs more touches. But Josh and I were talking about that. I like that two back backfield I like it. We were talking at halftime though. The play design some of which left something to be desired. But some of it there was a play that ended up to DeVonta Smith, but Shipley went out into the flat and the D-backs went over to him as if he was going to get the ball, tossed it to DeVonta big gain and simple, but effective. Well, that's that's my play design, you know, flooding one side of the field, making sure, you know, you high low. These defenders I mean it's going to work you know and you know even to start the game off you know having Jaylen with 3 or 4 straight plays underneath center. You know it broke what they always did. The tendency they had last year everything was from shotgun. Everything was read option. Everything was you know scout protection. When they passed the ball we got a little variation on how they were trying to execute the offense a lot better than what I've seen, but I still think there's so much more. They would, you know, first, first half of the game, they would bring motions of guys they wouldn't even get the ball. We know that. You know, these guys aren't going to get the ball. We know for a fact that, you know, the guys they were sending the motion, you know they're just not going to get it. But once they started putting AJ in motion, Dallas Goedert in motion, that's when the offense started taking off what you do. And I thought I thought when Kellen did a good job as Kellen Moore did a great job of probing the defense. She gave you a bunch of motions early in the game. Yeah, a lot of different players. He's trying to dictate to the defense what to do. Yeah. And once you find something that you've dictated, you know you're going to get it. That's when you attack the defense. So I thought that part was very good. Also, if you watch the clock, they had a lot of time out of the huddle and he was screaming. He was. And you know what in the past, man it was like panic time. We were the clock was running down. There was a lot of time, right? Right Jaedyn was really good at making the calls, setting protection, getting the formation switch, you know, getting blockers on Blitzers. I thought he did an outstanding job in that regard because he had time. The plays were coming in quickly. He had time to make those adjustments at the line of scrimmage a real positive. So you meaning they didn't have to go from, you know, the offensive coordinator to the head coach and then out to the coordinator, then out to Jaylen. No they didn't do that. No direct communication 34 points in his first game with with personnel that he's still kind of getting used to getting to know with the three Taryn. I mean they could have scored 50 if you think about it. I mean they had a turnover in the red zone in the deep red zone. I think they were on eight the when Jaylen threw that second pick. I mean they could have scored. You know a couple of those field goals. I mean this is a really encouraging start for the offense. I mean we expected a lot of fireworks right? I think I predicted they were going to score 30 per game, which I
