we are just two days away from the first and only scheduled presidential debate between former president Donald Trump and vice president kamla Harris and new polling data points to a neck and neck race and a possible shift in momentum the latest New York Times Sienna poll shows Trump now with a onepoint lead well within the 2.8% margin of error good evening I'm Brian yenis in for John Scott and this is the fox report [Music] we have Team coverage for you this evening Missouri GOP Senator Eric Schmidt here to preview the debate but first Alexis McAdams is live in Pittsburgh where VP Harris is hunkering down to prepare for Tuesday night Alexis hey Brian well we just spotted vice president Kam Harris out here in Pittsburgh this comes after she's been inside of that hotel room for a couple of days really trying to study to take on former president Trump reporters shouted questions to her asking if she's ready to take on Trump she gave a thumbs up are you ready M vice president ready so that was quick and that's all we got today vice president K laara is taking that walk tonight though with her husband Doug it comes as polls show just how close this race really is the latest New York Times and Sienna College poll finding this they asked likely voters an important question which candidate would you pick of the election was today 48% said they pick Trump that is within though that margin of error as you mentioned so the debate's going to be a deciding factor for a lot of people some people we talked to on the trail say they don't know who they're going to pick yet they want to wait for that debate to hear kind of what Harris is more about and how it comes to the economy with that stance so she's trying to talk policy to then deliver that message to Americans who will be watching at home the Carris the Harris campaign though is not happy with some of ABC News rules debate uh rules including muted microphones but it clim s are just going to help benefit Donald Trump today Pennsylvania Democratic senator John fedman says both candidates are going to do good I also wanted to say that it's going to be a a straightup debate she's going to do great of course but Donald Trump will be good too I mean we can all remember he wrecked all of the Republicans he's a good debater uh but at the end of the day I don't believe this debate's going to be definitive because it's going to come down to the this choice and it's going to be close yeah close as you saw on those polls but a lot of people say they just want to find out more about what kamla haris stands for Brian because she hasn't done a lot of media interviews and then we thought maybe we'd hear more from her uh while she's been in Pittsburgh but no dice on that so we'll keep you posted Brian all right Alexis McAdams with vice president Harrison Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Alexis thank you Donald Trump is the best counter puncher in the history of American politics this is is seven presidential debate over three Cycles uh and this is her first and so we're in a tide race and she has still a bunch of Swing voters who don't have an opinion of her or waiting to see who she is and what she's going to stand for so you know I think the advantage is to Trump going into this but you know as as we all know all strategy goes out the moment you get on that debate stage former Obama Deputy Chief of Staff Jim msen sizing up Tuesday night's first Trump Paris presidential debate for more on what to expect let's bring in Missouri GOP Senator Eric Schmidt who sits on the Senate armed services committee Senator thank you so much for being here I want to go back to the New York Times Sienna poll that came out today and in that poll it says that 28% of Voters said they needed to learn more compared with only 9% who said they needed to learn more about former president Trump doubled that about 63% said they needed to learn more about Harris's policies I don't have no idea about that the vice president said that she is uh sticking to her values but it seems based on this poll Americans have no idea what those values are Senator yeah and I think when they scratch the surface and see more they're not going to like what they hear from her I think there's a couple other points on that poll that are really interesting first U by a 2 to1 margin president Trump leads as the change agent so in an election cycle where people are upset about the status quo they view him as the change agent that's really good uh for president Trump and then voters side with President Trump on all the issues that are most relevant so all those underlying factors really matter uh and then you of course she can't really run from her record right and and when she was in the Senate she had the tiebreaking vote on the so-called inflation reduction act the American Recovery Act that pumped $1.4 trillion dollar into the economy which has led to this inflation of course she's the failed borders are so once you kind of get into her record and the fact that she was even more liberal in the Senate than Bernie Sanders uh that spells trouble for KLA Harris you know I don't know if many people know this Senator but you helped uh former president Trump in his last debate prep when he went against President Biden I'm wondering uh are you helping the former president in before this debate yes or no on that but besides that I also want to know what's your advice to the former president before Tuesday night's big debate well listen I don't presume to give any advice to president Trump he's done this before as an exceptionally well I mean he had the knockout punch against Joe Biden which is unheard of I mean that will go down when people teach classes in political science about debates they're going to talk about Nixon Kennedy and Trump Biden that's how good his performance was and so you know I continue to have conversations with the president but I don't give him advice I'm happy to to help wherever I can but uh he's right on all the issues and I think what this debate comes down to and what this presidential race comes down to Brian is are you better off now than you were four years ago under President Trump we had a booming economy we had a secure border there weren't Wars popping up all over the world uh we were energy dominant we don't have any of those things right now and KLA Harris can't recast herself into some moderate when quite literally she authored the green New Deal and was by a nonpartisan voting Record Keeper organization she was more liberal than Bernie Sanders like I said she's truly a radical California politician and and I think when when people learn more about that they're not going to like it uh do you think that based on this poll this is the first one where we've sort of seen the momentum shift here right it's been the summer of Harris so far in terms of the polling momentum at the very least uh do you think that this is indicative that this was all a sugar high that this was temporary senator yeah I mean I've been on record saying that that this race comes into Focus after Labor Day uh and that's where we're at uh she was going to have a honeymoon period and that honeymoon now is over officially I think this poll starts to show you that that once people you know most people are living their lives they're doing like normal things they taking their kids to volleyball games you know they're not they're not focused on this 24/7 but now that the election is less than 60 days away it comes into focus more the records come into focus more this all helps president Trump cuz that's what he's going to be running on and he should and KLA Harris like I said's got real problems when you really dig into what her ideology is what her voting record is it's way out of step with uh with mainstream America when you look at the polling H the top three most important issues according to this latest poll to Americans are the economy and then it's abortion and then it's immigration uh the other poll again I want to put this up that 28% of Voters said that they need to learn more about about Harris here um the abortion issue is something that the Harris campaign is is really leaning in on and there has been a lot of back and forth over the last month we can expect Harris to really use that on the debate stage uh what do you think the former president needs to do on that issue because he's got pro-lifers that are upset with him and and it seems to be he's stuck between a rock and a hard place on this issue it seems yeah well I think he gives the same answer he gave in the first debate which was look uh this is now up to the states to decide and people can have this political discussion now about where they want their state to land which is what that legal fight was all about all along you contrast that with KLA Harris's position on this issue she supports abortion on demand taxpayer funded abortion on demand until the moment of birth that's a radical position and so um she can talk about it but ultimately as you noted in that poll what people are most concerned about right now is the fact that every week that they go to the grocery store everything is 30 40% more expensive uh people are having to you know gas is expensive uh their utility bills are more expensive it's just much harder for regular Americans workingclass families to make ins meet and so I think president Trump will make that case very effectively he has now built a Republican party that is a multiethnic workingclass party that appeals to regular people JD Vance is a pick there for for uh vice president now reinforces that with his story and his campaigning in the Rust Belt state so um I think again uh she's going to listen she handled the debate just fine with Mike Pence I don't expect that I mean she's she's going to handle the debates well but where she really has problems is you know sort of the back and forth with a press conference or having to dig a little bit deeper into her policy positions it's interesting that she really hasn't done that she did sort of one phony interview um but she hasn't done any other ones she hasn't had a press conference she hasn't had questions come at her from multiple reporters at multiple times that's what president Trump does every week so uh I think again once people learn more about her positions uh they're going to be running in a different direction all right well we'll see what happens to this debate Anything Can Happen the mics will be muted when the other one is speaking we'll see how that is advantageous to either side but Missouri Republican senator Eric Schmidt thank you so much for your Insight tonight thanks Brian and be sure to tune in to Fox News democracy 24 special coverage of the ABC presidential debate simoc cast right here our coverage begins Tuesday September 10th at 8:00 p.m. eastern time The Big Apples migrant crisis is so bad some city council members are pushing to pause Sanctuary city laws pressure is mounting on Governor Kathy hokel to take action especially after a report about migrants flooding the city's criminal justice system CB cotton is live in New York City with that story tonight CB hi Brian six Republicans and three Democrats on New York City council's Common Sense caucus are urging Governor hokel under her emergency powers to issue an executive order temporarily waving the city's Sanctuary laws so local law enforcement can more readily cooperate with ice this week they wrote to the governor saying in part quote the recent surge in violent crime including incidents involving migrant gangs in Central Park and queens parks where they have been reported to be raping robbing assaulting and even shooting at police officers demands immediate and decisive action as you know New York City is a prime target for terrorism and we cannot afford to be complacent in the face of such threats one of the caucuses co-chairs TS Fox it's not just about crime he says it's about salvaging resources which he says have come at the expense of the migrant crisis that's the battle whether or not we can afford to keep our cops on the street to hire more cops for retiring cops because they're leaving our the job to hire firefighters to hire teachers uh the the services that are required by The migrants Who are coming to New York City are immense the city told us today still has nearly 63,000 migrants in its care and Fox News has confirmed since December the city has quietly given 150 migrant families $4,000 each to help them secure their own permanent housing while Governor hokel can take temporary action permanent changes to the city Sanctuary laws would take legislative action from the New York City Council and so far there's been no indication that the council would seriously consider walking back any Sanctuary policies which Advocates say are needed so migrants cooperate with police if they witness a crime or become a victim Governor hokel didn't respond to our requests for comment today but last fall Brian she indicated she supported ending the city's right to shelter law and just last month New York city mayor Eric Adams said he supported changes to the sanctuary laws back to you a crisis that's costing the city at least $5 billion that number could double this migrant crisis a real issue here in New York City CB cotton right here in the city thank you so much a man Hunt is underway in southeast Kentucky for a gunman who opened fire on drivers yesterday along Interstate 75 the shooting resulted in five people wounded and a major highway shot shut down it's a story we brought to you late last night Christina Coleman has the latest on this now Christina hi bran yeah authorities have now identified the suspect as 32-year-old Joseph couch of Woodbine Kentucky they describ couch as 510 145 lbs and someone who was armed and dangerous they say he shot into nine vehicles around 5:30 yesterday evening on Interstate 75 just north of London Kentucky a small town about 75 miles south of Lexington at least seven people were injured including five who suffered gunshot wounds there was a victim shot in the face I'm not sure whe whether that was the first person but there yes there was like I said there were some very very serious injuries in the those Vehicles deputies say they arrived on scene to find absolute chaos cars on both sides of the interstate some with window shot out and bullet holes and some of the vehicles they also believe they found the weapon that was used in the shooting in a wooded area we located an AR-15 it's uh going to be processed uh and it is in a wooded area next to the interstate uh in a a location that he could have shot down upon the interstate from that wooded location the sheriff says they also found the suspect's SUV in a trail just off of Service Road near Interstate 75 deputies say the thickly wooded area that they're searching in is challenging the area it's so remote if if he planned this uh it's so remote that's probably one of the most remote exits along I75 uh it's so wooded there's no there's one business there's no residences uh he couldn't have picked a an area that is any more remote and difficult for us to try to locate him multiple law enforcement agencies are assisting with the search including the FBI and the US Marshall service authorities out there said they planned on calling off the search temporarily when it gets dark out there and that thick and and wooded area but that they'll continue up tomorrow morning Brian I mean just astounding that nobody died from that thank God on that but uh yes thank you so much Miami Dolphin star Tyreek Hill was briefly detained by police this morning did you see this just hours before the Dolphins opened their season a block away against the Jacksonville Jaguars this video shows part of the incident Hill did play today boy did he ever and he scored an 80 yard touchdown to help the Dolphins win Madison scarpino now with this wild story and the very latest Madison yeah Brian from being detained and in handcuffs this morning to scoring that touchdown and then winning against the Jags it's been an eventful day for the NFL superstar and we now know that one of the cops who detained Hill has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues according to Miami dat police and after the game Hill told reporters that he has no idea why he was placed in handcuffs here's part of what he had to say everybody has bad apples in every situation it wasn't disrespectful you know cuz my mom didn't raise me that way um didn't cuss didn't do none of that so like I said I'm still trying to figure it out man social media video video shows just part of what happened it's unclear how an alleged driving violation that's according to Hills agent escalated to the wide receiver being handcuffed laying on the ground surrounded by cops the Miami Dolphins say he was only detained for a short time and several teammates saw the incident go down and stop to offer report this is the second time in the last few months that a big-time sports star has been arrested or detained before a competition in May pro golfer Scotty Sheffer was arrested just before the second round of the PGA Championship in Kentucky he was facing four charges but all have been dropped questions about how this Dolphins player ended up being detained in Miami this morning as mentioned One Cop is off the job for now and Hill isn't facing any charges at this time back to you yeah I don't think this is going away either I have a feeling this will be talked about for at least a week if not more uh just an unbelievable scene there in Miami Madison scarpino thank you for that report thanks Brian there is much more ahead on the fox report including new reaction to Friday's so so jobs report Lucas Tomlinson is working that story Lucas count well Brian a new jobs report is out with some details that may surprise you stay tuned I'll have the details after the break [Music] pack cancel a trip to Mexico stay inct forget that brand [Music] new we've got breaking news out of Capitol Hill the long awaited house Foreign Affairs committee report on the Biden administration's withdrawal from Afghanistan is being released minutes from now we're told that according to Republican house Foreign Affairs committee chairman Michael McCall the the report 3 years in the making is expected to be highly critical of the withdrawal which left 13 US service members dead in a suicide bombing at cell airport that paved the way for the Taliban to take control of the country Fox News will be going through this report and we'll have much more on what it contains throughout the evening President Biden laying low in Delaware this weekend after his son Hunter pleaded guilty to tax crimes and the August jobs report fueling fears of a major downturn in the economy Lucas Tomlinson is live at the White House with both of those stories Lucas good evening good evening Brian and recall just a year ago President Biden said his son did nothing wrong now Hunter Biden pleading guilty on those tax charges of course that comes after he was convicted on those gun charges back in June one of the reasons Hunter said he plad guilty was to save his family from quote needless embarrassment likely a reference uh to the sore details about drugs and hookers and a lifestyle and foreign influence that he did not want to see made public President Biden his team likely also very relieved uh that this case is now behind them the president did not take any questions about the matter while spending the weekend in Delaware but it's likely that officials here at the White House are glad this will not affect the Harris campaign going forward President Biden will you pardon your son a new report by the labor department says employers added 142 2,000 new jobs in August which was well below expectations Wall Street had expected 20,000 more and that August jobs report shows native born Americans lost more than 1.3 million jobs over the last year while foreign born workers gained 1.2 million jobs also Brian part-time workers increased by 500,000 while the number of full-time workers went down by 400,000 on the Sunday shows Republicans and Democrats had differing views of the economy here's Arkansas senate or Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Connecticut Senator U Murphy the economy is bad inflation has skyrocketed you go to any grocery store or gas station as a family as an American you're feeling the failures of this Administration she doesn't get to run away from that I think the contrast is pretty striking between a candidate on the Democratic side uh who wants to make sure that we grow the economy from the middle out and Donald Trump who still believes in this magical thinking of trickle down economics and the Wall Street Journal editorial board says it believes the Biden Harris Administration wants to grow the economy from the government out Brian Lucas Thomson live at the White House Lucas thank you for more on this month's job report and the outlook for the economy let's bring in Economist Dr Peter Earl Dr Earl thank you so much for being here very much appreciate it let's bring up those August jobs numbers again on the screen for us the actual added 142,000 jobs projected was 160,000 jobs uh and also if you look at the revised 12mth jobs report we're talking about a correction of 818 th000 Less jobs than what was originally planned out here I'm wondering Dr Earl what do you make of these jobs numbers and how concerned are you well I'm quite concerned uh you know it's true that uh we saw 142,000 jobs in August which is lower than the 65,000 forecast but it's actually somewhat worse than that because the fact is that steady state job growth in the US is about 200 to 225,000 jobs a month so the economy is already vastly undershooting that level you know some of the other data that came out showed that the number of job openings right now in the US is that levels not seen since January 2021 layoffs are rising and quits are falling because workers are concerned about finding new jobs if they leave their current ones we also had a base book release that showed nine of 12 districts either stagnating or Contracting so there's a lot of bad news out there okay a lot of bad news out there and that I know that people say the stock market is not the economy but I want to bring up some of these stock numbers the US Stock Market Friday closed you know the S&P and Dal had their LGE biggest weekly uh drop since March of 2023 there you can see the Dow down 410 points the NASDAQ registered its biggest weekly drop since January of 2022 I'm wondering how much of this is concern that the Federal Reserve will not be able to soft land in fact how much of this is concerned that the Federal Reserve messed this up and we are no longer near a soft landing and could be entering a recession if that's what's causing it it's uh it's a it's an apt concern because the FED has made mistake after mistake since 2020 you know there's a lot of volatility in the market right now partially because really a small handful of stocks have carried the major indices to those highs that called The Magnificent the magnificent seven and one of them has done most of the heavy lifting and that's Nvidia so there's a single company which is really the tail waging the dog you know of course the the the stock market takes a lot of cues from the Federal Reserve and right now the big question is whether the feder will cut short-term rates by 25 or 50 basis points on September 18th but even after that the Market's going to remain spooked about the outcome of the election there's a lot of you know really sort of uh anti-business policies being thrown out uh there's a possibility of civil unrest depending upon who wins and who doesn't so I think we're stocks are in for a bumpy ride forward again unfortunately what's your outlook in general last question here about consumers you know the consumer confidence went up a little bit in August but prices are still high interest rates are still High um what's your outlook right now for the average consumer so we're not in a recession right now but we're very much on the edge of one um you know it's only very lucky that oil prices are falling because of the slowdown in China otherwise I think we could be slipping into a recession right now as for consumers uh you know we found out that the savings rate is near all-time lows recently so consumers are running faster and faster on the proverbial treadmill to try to keep up prices are still Rising it's just that they're Rising more slowly you know than they were before so uh yeah it's it's a lot to be concerned about and there's a lot of misrepresentation at work about the state of the US economy right now yeah and I don't think people are going to get that much Clarity at the debate on Tuesday because there's obviously two very different views here on the economy uh but Dr Peter Earl thank you so much for breaking that down thanks thanks for having me so what can we expect on Tuesday night what strategies will vice president Harris and former president Trump use when they take the stage in Philadelphia political commentator Sarah Bedford has some thoughts she will share them with us next Donald Trump intends to pull us back to the past but we're not going back Camala destroyed the greatest city in America San Francisco she destroyed it totally destroyed it then she became Attorney General of the state she destroyed the state of California now she's running for president we're not going to let that happen we're not going back cuz we also know that if Donald Trump were reelected he intends to give tax cuts to billionaires and big corporations he intends to cut Social Security and Medicare go back couple of years we will never Frack there will be no fracking in Pennsylvania Pennsylvania will never frack and now you say oh yes uh we will Frack the whole thing is a conob both candidates are gearing up for the big Showdown on Tuesday the stakes may be especially high for vice president Harris as new polling shows former president Trump narrowly taking back the White House if the election took place today now joining us now is Sarah bedford's Steamboat Institute blankly fellow Sarah thank you so much for being here this evening I want to start off with with Camp Harris here we saw this New York Times poll which shows it's a national poll of likely voters it shows Trump with a a slight lead here uh with 4847 we can put that on the screen and then we also show that same poll shows that nearly 30% of Voters want to know more about her as a matter of fact 63% of Voters say they don't know much about her policies and you can see there that only 9% of vot of likely voters said the same thing about Mr Trump so in other words they know Trump but they don't really know Harris how much of Tuesday night will be in so important or crucial for Harris to Define herself well it's hugely important for kamla Harris not just to introduce to voters where she stands on issues because she's not provided any clarity about what she's actually running on up to this point but because there's been no primaries there have been no solo interviews with kamla Harris as only one on CNN that I think most in the media even friendly media characterize as just going okay in terms of her one interview so there's a lot of pressure on KLA Harris to describe her policy agenda and that's to say nothing of the people who are tuning in to watch how she performs stylistically because that was a big part of why people tuned in to C Joe bid to see how did he perform when he was off a teleprompter because his schedule had been so tightly controlled up to that point I think the White House here risks making the same mistake with kamla Harris by keeping her on such a tight leash that people will be watching not just for what she says sub substantively but if she even can perform well when she's not on script the Harris campaign is starting to really downplay those expectations uh ahead of Tuesday that could be gamesmanship but they're particularly interested on the mics they will be muted when the other one is speaking and they're saying we wanted them to be unmuted how much play on Tuesday and to whose Advantage well you know KLA Harris seems to be really only capable when she's firing off lines when she's doing something that's pre-prepared when she when it's scripted the the problem here is that she seems to have crafted a strategy that depended entirely on the mics being open so that could she could fire off onliners against Donald Trump absent that the focus is going to be on the substance of her answers and that's her weakest point it's not good that voters can't pick pinpoint where she stands on anything and that the platform she's running on now Bears no resemblance to the one that she ran on in 2020 when she was in the presidential primary and while the focus will be solely on where she stands now I think she's going to face some heat for flip-flopping and there's not been a satisfactory answer from the Harris campaign as to why all those positions changed and quickly last my last question to you is this is NFL Sunday now what are your keys to the game here for former president president Trump to come out Tuesday as the Victor well the stakes are so much lower for Trump people know him really well as that poll shows Trump needs to not get personal with KLA Harris and just focus on driving home that hypocrisy angle that kamla Harris has changed her positions across the board and she doesn't have an answer for why other than the unspoken one which is that she's really only interested in winning all right political strategist Sarah Bedford thank you so much for joining us this evening with that insight thank you and be sure to tune in to Fox News democracy 24 special coverage of the ABC presidential debate simoc cast our coverage begins Tuesday September 10th at 8:00 p.m. eastern time keep it right here there is much more Fox report ahead just moments away for
