have now less than two weeks to get a deal done before the regular season starts now Jerry Jones in his postgame comments was a little bit more Cy uh than what he normally has been on lamb basically saying he didn't want to talk about it and my first thought was okay that means they're they're making progress they Jerry's not going to get involved with with the public attention there because he thinks they're actually getting closer to a deal then Clarence Hill reporting this morning this according to a source the Cowboys are making progress press on a deal with lamb nothing has been agreed to or consummated but the team has increased its offer to lamb above $33 million annually and the Cowboys have narrowed the length of a prospective deal to four years this is progress that's what that is you're getting closer to the actual average per year the structure of your deal now getting down to four years which was what it's what players want Cowboys don't seem to want it but that's what the players agents are going for for these days you have to accept it next big step there would be the guaranteed money no reporting on that we'll see how it plays out I think in the end the de probably look something like this give or take couple million on the guaranteed money maybe half million if that per year on the average money four years which is this we put up like what three weeks ago whatever it was like what it was going to be you have to make it this challenging right four years 135 I think the guaranteed money might be the most uh the trickiest part to figure out but just figured out come on guys let's go 33.75 million per year maybe it's only 33 A2 I don't know if it gets to 34 if it does maybe just a little bit underneath it but I think that's a pretty easy Benchmark you could have had figured out weeks ago months ago as soon as Justin Jefferson got paid so do you think lamb and the Cowboys will get that deal done by week one so no games missed hopefully sooner than later so there's not you know risk of soft tissue injuries Etc why for yes n for no go vote at the pin comments of today's show I do think this deal gets done I'd still be pretty surprised if it didn't get done I am still upset and I will not forget it that the Cowboys haven't got the deal done yet that we are now deep into August at the end of August and you're still trying to finalize a deal that I kind of thought would have been done a year ago ended up not being the case and they've continued to drag their feet since then I think some noteworthy reporting from Tom pisero I want to get to here clam remains a hold out as he has been throughout the course of training camp this was on Sunday by the way but I do sense there is some optimism in Dallas that it could be coming to an end soon the sides communicated a lot over the past 10 days everyone involved knows where the other stands in terms of what it's going to take to get this done CD lamb is not pushing to be the highest paid wide receiver if when this extension gets finalized I would comes in right underneath Justin Jefferson it should not be a super complicated deal to work out having said that the Cowboys historically have moved slowly on a lot of these types of deals time is now of the essence the red begins two weeks from today against Cleveland Brown you're going to need to get lamb out on the field if he's going to be ready to roll in week one so a critical couple of days here as the Cowboys and SE lamb try to finally reach an accord look other Tom is right it's go time you got to make some decisions here you you got to get stuff done now I don't think lamb would hold out of games I I think that the the game checks there are too valuable to to justify jeopardizing that type of thing but updates as well on the Dak Prescott contract situation he is also the final year of his deal unlike CD lamb no leverage exists from the Cowboys to potentially say we're going to franchise tag twice that doesn't exist for Dallas he's got a games worth of season worth of games to play and then he hits the open market here's what ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on Sunday as well they're going to try to get Prescott done before week one as well and and double down on both these guys meaning CD lamb and spend a ton of money so it's unclear if they can pull this off Prescott if you talk to people in and around the situation he's well aware of how well he could do in free agency and if he were to to let this ride out and play well again and put up huge qbr and then be there in March for 60 million a year or whatever it's going to cost it's going to cost a lot I don't think both sides want that they want to try to shake out shake this out with the deal but it's going to take a lot of leg work over the next two weeks I have my doubts the Cowboys and Dak Prescott are going to agree to a deal what do you think ends up happening pre-week one D for deal n d for No Deal let me know in the that quote from August 25th or March 25th ah both sides want to get a deal done ah they're going to work hard to get it done before week one it's going to be expensive both sides know what they want nothing has actually changed really not not really we know it's going to be expensive we know how how the market is it's always been that way I get the sicker shock over said Market why have these deals waited so long you know someone tried to tell me oh the Cowboys hav cost themselves money a yes they have because the market has gone up at least for lamb over the last calendar year maybe not so much for deak with his unique contract situation but you also limited your spending in free agency if you had paid lamb and m and d Prescot whatever number they wanted to get you could have freed up 20 plus 30 plus million do to spend money on they didn't do that instead they're going to carry over a bunch of extra money NE next year ring their hands about oh our dead money and not actually half that much dead money relatively speaking if you just pay guys or if you don't pay players limit your salary cap flexibility and also still have like two or three guys under contract longterm paying anybody right now I still believe CD Lamb's deal gets done I refuse to believe the Cowboys are that stupid because if you want to rebuild which is fine if if if you don't want to pay Dak press build I get that I I understand I get the I get that I do you're going to want CD lamb to help out your new Young QB you kind of need him if you want to win games now you need CD lamb as your one true dynamic playmaker on offense right now whatever your plan is you need lamb out there I have my doubts about about Dak Prescott my concern by the way is that they'll let this drag out as long as humanly possible and then cave and give him everything he wants just like they did last time and done with other players too and then actually really pay a premium when maybe they should have just you know swallowed their medicine and and taken their pills from the the bed they made four years ago when they didn't do the Dak Prescott deal right the first time they're still kind of reaping what they sow from them now Cowboys roster cuts are coming Cowboys have to cut down from 90ish players probably a little bit less than that by now and I guess it is actually is still down to 53 plus injured think he is firmly on that roster bubble kind of right in the middle of it with just over 24 hours to go I'll make note Todd Archer of ESPN and David Moore Dallas Morning News both had our small King on their 53 their final 53 man roster projections seems significant Jerry Jones post game had this to say about Tu spawn Gadget juice and at non Gadget times which I think he means like as a running back explosive playability right he's going to be interesting for us now I saw many headlines saying oh Jerry Jones confirms dufon on the roster I actually wouldn't view it that way it's not how I I I took that quote I took that quote of like you know he's going to be an interesting decision for us not an interesting player on the roster um even though I'd put him on there because you don't have any juice on on at running back you are cut Deuce fun that is the slowest running back room in human history not well I take that back uh since the forward pass came around also still a slight exaggeration but you guys get my point so does dufon make this roster okay for you keep him see if he ends up getting cut let me know in the comments section of Today's Show against the Raiders and against the Chargers uh pretty much every time duvon touched the ball good things happened he made plays uh I think in reality when it comes to the Cowboys duvon is not a roster lock but he does bring you something different than what exists on your roster Ezekiel Elliott is this team there there's no doubts about that now he is a short yardage power back who can pass protect that's that's great that role okay Rico dowle is I think a more well-rounded running back who offers a little bit more explosive juice probably not as good in short yardage but isn't necessarily bad in short yardage either I think he's the best back on your roster he's also not a gamebreaking big play machine that's just not who he is you know Malik Davis is like a discounted version of Rico da I wonder I think he's got a chance to make this roster in part because it might be more of a bones fossil Le decision that he wants him to be the personal protector that's fine but you know Royce Freeman is just discount Zeke Elliott at this point or similar to to Zeke Elliott I don't have anybody on this team that offers explosive plays I would like to have somebody that offers explosive plays and if it's not going to come from outside the organization du fawn's the only viable option there I don't want to run a three yards and a cloud of dust offense so I I get you might not trust D Spa in pass protection I don't know I watched Malik Davis get rocked in pass protection against the Chargers I I think whether you're carrying four backs which if we include lipy as the fullback HB Titan hybrid four is fine five gets a little steep think duvon has to be one of those players [Music]
