REALIGNMENT CONFUSION: PAC 12 Teams Homeless for a Month

let me clear up some confusion the Pack 12 ended this weekend but Oregon and Washington and USC and UCLA they don't actually join the Big 10 for another month technically they're homeless we're Tuesday tweets but first the lights are officially out for for the former Pack 12 Conference as of June 30th kind of sad really their losses our gain of course in the Big 10 and now it's just a pack two if you will with Washington State and Oregon State but I saw a lot of confusion online beginning with this week and over the last couple of days here Oregon and Washington and UCLA and USC they don't officially join the Big 10 until August 2nd that means those teams are homeless for the next month the changes are already in full force I mean the Pack 12 Network sadly went dark over the weekend again a lot of sadness over on the west coast but it's going to be exciting over here for the rest of the country in the Big 10 so once these schools join to Big 10 officially they'll be full-fledged members in all sports and that means in addition to football this fall fall soccer and women's volleyball all these games will be as Big 10 teams for these new for for new schools and of course uh now we're up to 18 teams and a big 10 is going to be the largest and the oldest FBS conference in all of America and this promises to be the greatest football season in Big 10 history and we couldn't be more excited about it in case you can't tell right here on lockdown Big 10 we love talking about the expansion we like talking about possible future expansion but we're we're great right now we're excited about this 18 Team league that's about ready to take over here this year and the medy days are coming up pretty soon and practices a month away we're ready to go so next week programming note we're going to start with our team by te season previews and perhaps a a surprise prediction here or there as well we did this last year we'll do it here this year as well in June and make it a tradition unlike any other here on lockdown Big 10 but we can rattle off a little sneak preview regarding these four new members that are coming in the Big 10 from out west you know first and foremost let's talking about Oregon I love talking about Oregon H I think they're gonna have a special season there's a lot to talk about here they are going to be a formidable opponent for everybody this season they remind me of a ball Club in any sport really that is about to move into a new stadium or new Arena and a lot of times you know a Target date has been set while they build the new Arena all the plants all that stuff and the team ownership kind of gets the roster geared up a little bit maybe add a few free agent Superstars here and there because when they have this new stadium or Arena they want to put butts in the seats they want to have something to look at you don't put a bad lousy team in a new facility you want a good team out there and that's kind of what happened because you gotta get fans something to to to watch in the new digs it's kind of what Oregon seems to be doing at least to me right now they were pretty good last year but they're even better this year at least on paper and Dan Lanning is ready to take the Big 10 by storm in his very first year there no transition there's no honeymoon there's like they're just going to go after it and see where the chips fall I've said it before and I'll say it again this year I'll take a little bit of heat from this but I don't think it's way off so I don't think I'll take that much heat I don't think the Michigan Ohio State game is the biggest game of the year in the conference this year and I never say that but this year I think on October 12th at oddson Stadium when Ohio State comes to town that will be the biggest big 10 game of the year Oregon hosting Ohio State the winner will have an inside track on a big 10 championship and and more both of them probably win or lose probably more at stake with the expanded playoffs to 12 teams this year I like their chances of both of them getting into the playoffs this year then there's the Washington Huskies team that comes into the league as the national champion runner up but you're not going to recognize many players on this team because they're all new or they were there but they weren't starters last year from last year's team that played in the national championship game jetfit takes over for kayin dor who of course parlayed his success at Washington last season into the Alabama head coaching job but despite all the new faes for the Huskies I think their most intriguing game still comes down to October 5th when they host Michigan and by the way Michigan's coming in with a lot of new faces as well and even though it'll be two really new teams it's a rematch of the national championship the media will make a big deal about it will'll make a big deal about it it's a cool game on the schedule and really nobody knows how that's going to come out now let's take a quick peek at the two Southern California schools who of course committed to the Big 10 even before Washington and Oregon did they are all ready to go there's a lot of inj about Lincoln Riley and Southern Cal and a little bit of pressure on Coach Lincoln Riley I think this year to produce right away they'll be explosive on offense assuming of course that Miller Moss could fill cayb Williams shoes or at least the way he did when he threw six touchdown passes in the Holiday Bowl and everybody went whoa oh we've got our guy we're good I mentioned yesterday as why will Howard ended up at Ohio State there were rumors he was going to go to USC because they didn't know what they were going to do with Caleb Williams gone lo and behold the head Miller Moss under their wing the whole time got to get a really good look at him and kicked the tires on them leading up to the Holiday Bowl with an extra five weeks of practice actually six right when you think about it so uh I think at that point linol Riley realized I I got something here we're good to go so I think there are a lot of expectations on offense and of course it comes down to defense can they improve at all because they've had none and you can't play Big 10 football with no defense they have some intriguing games on their schedule in fact USC has a brutal schedule let's be honest I mean they've got a game of Michigan Home dates against Wisconsin Penn State and Nebraska plus the seasons bookended with the neutral season opener against LSU and then they close it out with the finale at the Coliseum with their arch rival Notre Dame that's a tough schedule you're going to have some bumps in the road there uh that's pretty tough and then of course there's UCLA you know they have lowkey expectations this year I think first year head coach TOA Foster took over when Chip Kelly bolted to premote himself and become an offensive coordinator at Ohio State you know the story big surprise at the time but I'm most intrigued to see how offensive coordinator Eric bemy does over there and how that works out and for how long he stays is this a a one-year jump he still wants a head coaching job somewhere we'll see how that works out as for right now I think it's pretty intriguing at least on offense and this staff is starting to make a little bit of Headway recruiting they've really made an effort to keep California kids in California in fact we've got a recruiting update on UCLA coming up in our next segment their first Big 10 game comes in the second game of the season as Indiana comes to the Rose bow for the first time and well since they played in like played USC in the Rose Bowl in 1968 so it'll be kind of unusual there but like USC the Bruins also have a non-conference game with LSU at LSU tough scheduling believe me this is just a thumbnail sketch of our preview what we got coming up next week when we talk about all 18 teams one at a time we kind of feature one each day here on this podcast but uh we're gonna open up Open Arms with these four pack 12 teams coming into the Big 10 we're all very excited to have them uh and again we'll highlight every team all 18 teams starting next week that's what we do for July media Day is coming up in July out of Indianapolis as well well we'll have a total in-depth analysis of personnel exor and that he chose Penn State over Maryland on Friday he said he was torn over the decision exor's from Owings Mills Maryland a lot of pressure to stay home right he was certain he'd be featured at both schools and he says they run similar offenses and overall he just felt like it was a better fit at Penn State so that's where he's going and Pen stain offered exor as far back as eighth grade if you can believe it but he said it was during his June visit to ABY Valley they they did a deep dive with him and he did a deep dive with new offensive coordinator Andy kikki and his offense all right here's how we're going to use you and here's how we use guys like you before in the past where he coached before got him fired up got him pretty excited and you know cotal Nicki he he told XO how he likes big receivers in space and that's how this is going to work bottom line is Penn State needs receivers to take that top off the defenses that's no secret we've been talking about that on this podcast for a year so we'll see how that goes with the wide receivers this year the Ohio State Buckeyes their target Damen Shanklin says he will announce his decision on where to play in 2025 on Friday Friday July 5th the pass rusher is from indianapolis's Warren Central and the Buckeyes already have the top ranked recruiting class of 2025 if they land him it would only strengthen their position position on the top meanwhile also strengthening their position as the number one recruiting group fourstar Maxwell Roy has committed to Ohio State he's 6'4 280 pounds picked the Buckeyes over Michigan and Ruckers he said he wanted to be a buckeye since he was a little kid it's hard to overcome that and there is another player out there that would allow the Buckeyes 2025 class to be even stronger but they have some competition from new Big 10 fo Oregon and we're talking about fourstar Edge rusher Justin Hill uh Hill says that he will announce tomorrow Wednesday so he's choosing between Oregon Ohio State USC and uh he is an Ohio native so maybe uh maybe Ohio state is that going for him he had 13 sacks his Junior season in high school pretty good another intra conference battle is shaped up between Nebraska and Ohio State for offensive tackle David Sanders Jr and he said he just had absolutely crazy and fun visits at both Lincoln and Columbus and if you read it between the lines a little bit seems like he's leaning toward Ohio State just a little there's three star Edge rusher uh epie ctin LA from Rancho Cucamonga California he is committed to stay home and go to UCLA I told you earlier they're trying to make a commitment at UCLA to keep California kids in California this is a perfect example um also Ohio State and Utah were in the running for this kid but he's going to go to UCLA Deshawn Foster quietly putting together a top 30 class at UCLA ninth in the Big 10 kind of middle all the pack and they do have three fourstar recruits in the works they got commits from fourstar safety Jaden Hudson four-star running back Carson Cox as well as fourstar quarterback Madden IMA leeva don't forget again Eric bemy the offensive coordinator that's attractive to quarterbacks as long as he's there quarterbacks and offensive weapons might want to lean to UCLA these days and let's not forget a big win for the Badgers they get a commitment from 2025 fourstar offensive lineman Hardy Watts that took place on Monday he reportedly went down to the wire he chose the Badgers over Michigan and Clemson that's a big win for Luke fickle going head-to-head against Michigan and Clemson and coming up with this kid that wants to play of course even before fickle went there Wisconsin had the reputation for you know big offensive lineman I mean so does Michigan and all that I get it but that's a good get 22 commits now for the class of 2025 for Luke fickle and the Wisconsin Badgers and Michigan State got a commitment from Three Star defensive lineman Derek Simmons from Franken Muth Michigan he's uh just one rating point away from being a four-star so he's a really high three star so that's a good get for Jon Jan Smith at East Lancing lot of recruiting news going on man it is it is building up and then as soon as the coaches get done with this they got to start practice pretty soon just a few more weeks away daytime TV could be a drag their uh updated 2025 um Team recruiting ranking ings to kick off July this is recruiting rankings Ohio State number one I think that's pretty unanimous around around the country Oregon at number five notice Penn State at number eight on their list but notice number 12 yeah that is right if you're watching on video you're seeing that correct Ruckers and I've seen them ranked even higher I've seen some people rank Ruckers as a top five recruiting class for 2025 but here they at 12th on this list Michigan at 15th Wisconsin 16th and they got Southern Cal at 21 but yeah I'll uh look out for Ruckers I'm we're gonna have fun with that preview when we do all the teams starting next week we get to Ruckers that's going to be a fun one they are they are killing it over there they're doing a great job this is from at quati says Oregon is now Big 10 country it is the Oregon Duck and uh it says okay people tomorrow morning 12:00 a.m. Oregon joining the Big 10 again this is what I was talking about earlier at the top of the podcast this is where the confusion came in there were a lot like a lot of things like this on social media Technic now Oregon is no longer in the Pack 12 but they're not in the Big 10 officially till August 2nd I don't want to rain anybody's parade go ahead and enjoy the buildup and the ramp up but um you know facts are facts details or details technically August 2nd okay here is another another one uh from uh at legalize quack and again it is a picture of the Oregon Duck ring out on a motorcycle as he does before games it's a short little video and it says July is the last month of the year without Oregon football that's right got an August 31st game to kick things off here is from at Owen Tulie says don't tell me Oregon isn't a blue these are what he's got a list of the uh EA Sports college football ball 25 out and it it ranks team Power Rankings here it has Georgia one Ohio State 2 Oregon at three on the list by the way M say don't tell me that Oregon isn't a blue blood when we have the third really tied for second best roster in America and absolutely cleaning up with recruiting you don't have to like it but you do have to accept it um no no I'm not going to accept it and look at risk of I don't want to upset any Oregon fans I have all due respect you've heard me say you got a shot at winning a big 10 in your first year and maybe even a national championship I don't think that qualifies you as a blue blood a school that's been you know doing it for 50 years or whatever the whatever your requirement is or your specs for naming somebody a blue blood so no I'm not I wouldn't call them a blue blood it doesn't mean they're not great uh it doesn't mean they can't have an awesome season that doesn't mean they don't have it over or under their nine and a half win total this season and it is a picture of their schedule of course a reminder that the wolverin have won the Big 10 Championship three straight years yes we all know that uh we'll do this officially when we do Michigan preview let's just say all right let's just say wins I'm going to skip through this wins against Fresno State Arkansas State let's say USC Minnesota Washington Illinois Michigan State Indiana and Northwestern all right that's nine wins right there you see the wind total is nine and a half so that means Texas that means Oregon that means Ohio State got to win one of those three games to get the over nine and a half it's going to be tough and if they win one of those three and run the table on everybody else that's a that's a 10 and two season that's playoff team that's playoff team I mean maybe even a three loss team somebody gets in but there you go uh let's see here is from at Ross bork as we talked about yesterday featuring Ohio State he's a new Ohio State athletic director and he says the Journey Begins officially at the Ohio State couldnot be more grateful humbled and fired up to lead the Buckeye Athletics and business advancement into a new era let's go Buckeyes there's this whole statement there interesting um in charge of Athletics and business advancement yeah that's like nil money it's a new part of the job embrace it more news uh here is from at FF buuck um it says boom four-star defensive lineman Maxwell Roy commits to the Ohio State University yes he did and we mentioned that earlier here he is with the Ohio State Garb on I see it also says on here Chiron Locker by Ryan Day second time just never stops hey here's a fun one from H at the University of Maryland turps 10 years ago today we joined the Big 10 since then Six National Championships including all sports 49 Big 10 title 67 NCA tournament appearances and 75 individual NCA Championship appearances celebrate with us throughout the month of July there you go 10 years Maryland in the Big 10 and here is at Big 10 football little highlight of K manangi this is why Ruckers is going to have a special season one of his many long runs last season and this is a highlight from the Virginia Tech game so very good I believe this was a 55 Yard run by him for a touchdown so there you go kind of spreading it around a little bit Tuesday
