The Colorado Buffs Game One Opponent Profile

[Music] really excited to welcome back uh aisen to the B and family and Coach Tim poac my assumption is that you guys love your position coach you love uh the process you love the people and the administration this thing's still family oriented it's the strongest culture in the world this is the strongest culture in the world and I know that you guys are are worried about the change and what man what's this guy going to be like what does it look like tomorrow what does it look like Tuesday okay so change is tough change is really hard okay but we're going to take the steps that we need to take to move forward and that that trust element guys we're going to work at we're you guys are the most important part of this thing next year what does that have to do with the past championships anything has nothing to do with it let's go create our own story and be part of this great tradition in history and I would rather coach this room I don't even know some of you guys I'd rather coach this group the way you guys have been coached what you know the systems so forth and so on there won't be extraordinary change with that stuff I'll take this group we'll go to war because of your DNA because of our DNA now here's where I'm at Three core values that we are non-negotiables that we will do every day we are going to compete and love competing with each other our opponents the day so our second core value will be Improvement consistent Improvement needs to show off because it leads to credibility and TR all right then the last thing you guys already know right toughness all right tough physical part that goes without saying but we will lead the country in physicality we will lead the country in physicality that starts up front on both sides this really the only guarantee I'm going to make you is that I promise that as a staff as a university we're going to set each and every one of you guys to reach your full maximum potential I want you to know every step of the way I'm going to be here with you we're all fortunate to be part of this program in this room I [Music] fully coach Dom ISO wda Y in Fargo North Dakota you're opening up with North Dakota State aown FS killer tell me what you know about the Bison they good they're really darn good and I'm mad at Rick right now for putting them on the schedule to open up with them like can you give me a layup or something like those guys are wonderful their staff has always been amongst the best many people have matriculated from that staff to go to higher levels um those kids play their butts off they they're tough um they don't make many mistakes they're accustomed to winning they don't give a Dar about being at home or on the road that does not phase them whatsoever um we just we just can't wait to to to see it I know it's a national television game I believe it's a Thursday night game hopefully not too late um but we can't wait to see them it's going to be a phenomenal game the North Dakota State Bison falson field in Boulder Colorado no FCS program has claimed more national championships than North Dakota state football winner of 9 of 11 FCS titles from the 2011 through 2021 college football seasons the Bison started their extraordinary run with a five Pat from 2011 through 2015 and ended their decade of dominance with three more from 2017 through 2019 after Sam Houston claimed his first ever championship in the 2021 spring season ending North Dakota State's three Pat the Bison then won their ninth National Title in January 2022 North Dakota state has appeared in a total of 14 NCAA division one football championship playoffs all of which have been consecutive the Bison have an overall record of 47 and5 in postseason in play since becoming eligible in 2008 including a record streak of 22 consecutive playoff wins from 2011 to 2016 the Bison have won more Division 1 FCF playoff games than any other program past or present NDSU has won nine National Championship Games lost one and have advanced to the quarterfinal round in every playoff they have appeared in the five playoff games that NDSU has lost has been to the eventual National Champion that year year excluding 2023 in which Montana went on to fall to South Dakota state in the title game there are currently 13 former Bison football players on NFL rosters 11 on active rosters and two on practice squads the 2024 NFL draft marked the first time since 2018 that North Dakota state did not have a player selected in the seven round NFL draft the team did have four bison signed free agent deals with NFL teams on December 17th 2023 North Dakota State announced that Wyoming offensive coordinator quarterback's coach Tim POC will take over as the next head coach of the Bison all chapters come to a close you can't read a book without turning the pages the 2023 football season for North Dakota State Bison came to a close yesterday following the team's double overtime loss to Montana and Missoula that means the Matt ins era India also comes to a close and a new era begins under a new head coach the school announced this morning that Tim POC will be the 32nd head football coach in program history POC returns to North Dakota state from Wyoming where he was the offensive coordinator under former bison head coach Craig B for the past three seasons he spent two previous stints with the Bison first from 2006 to 2012 coaching running backs tight ends and fullbacks he returned to North Dakota state in 14 to spend three seasons as the offensive coordinator and running backs coach here's what a few of the players had to say after last night's loss coach R said yesterday in our unit meeting he said this is the closest unit that I have I have seen in 16 years we each have each other's backs and you know I feel like we would die for one another and we just got so close throughout the adverse sit situations that we had been in throughout the entire year and it just made us love one another even more again this was Matt in's last time at the helm who has led the Bison since 2019 here's his reflection on the night and where this program is at NDSU is going to be in a good they're in a good spot um everyone knows what the what the standard is and I think we played to the standard do I wish we'd have won a couple more games hell yeah but um I'm not apologetic for the standard what's next for coach in is a coaching position as a linebacker coach at at Southern Cal and for the Bison who hand Tim poek the Reigns I told them that we'll wake up every day fully dedicated to each person that sits in those seats to maximizing their opportunity and for them to reach their full potential I think if we can get that done I don't think I know we'll have an opportunity to beat Colorado next year I think we'll have an opportunity to win every game I'd like to run the ball and we want to be the most physical team in the country right there babe good job good job babe my roots go back quite a ways you know to the airart era and Earl solmonson era and Don Morton eras you know I still remember watching all those teams play during the course of their ten years of NDSU and obviously the tenure of Rocky Hager and I'm very uh aware of history and the tradition and the Championships that have been won that's the idea good this is my sixth uh stop in college coaching uh started out as a head coach um at my Elma Mo Min State reach reach reach reach reach there you go set there you go yeah let's go quick karaa it's been a head coach I've been an offensive coordinator I've been a position coach I've been an assistant head coach so had numerous roles and uh very fortunate to be back in the state of North Dakota especially withing Co State that's it stay here that's better that's better that's better longtime College head Coach North Dakota native and former NFL quarterback Randy Hedberg has been North Dakota State University's quarterback coach since 2014 he has been part of seven Missouri Valley Football conference championships and six NCAA division 1 FCS national championships at NDSU Hedberg who was named the 2020 21 FCS assistant coach of the Year by the American football coaches association has mentored three NFL draft picks in eight seasons at North Dakota State including two quarterbacks selected in the top three overall at the NFL draft the thing that is special about indu in our football program is we're a player-driven program our players set the tempo for our team these guys and I'm going to tell you Carson taught Easton Easton taught Trey Trey taught cam we have a very rigorous schedule for our quarterbacks and I'm going talk about quarterback GR and I'll get into culture and leadership in that area in just a moment but they taught each other they taught each other how to prepare and this is going on and this is something we started and it's morphed into bigger things with these young men uh Carson Wentz was the second overall pick in the draft back in 16 he was 22 and4 as a starting quarterback for the Bison okay the next guy well I'm going to go to Trey Trey was the third overall pick in the draft a year ago or so he'd still be playing for the bis and this would be a senior year if he's still with us but Trey was 17-0 as a starting quarterback for us the guy in between him e stick was a fifth round draft pick of the LA Chargers he was 49 and three as a starting quarterback now they all have similar traits they're attentive to detail they're they're so detailed they're so meticulous in their preparation and how they led the team and how they became leaders through our program and I think it's really important cam Miller's Legacy is still being defined he hasn't uh finished playing yet but he's got a good record to this point he has been part of bisen teams that have produced nine of the top 10 seasons of total offense in NDSU history including a School record 7,076 yards in 2018 and 7,512 yards in 2019 red Sher freshman Trey Lance in 2019 won the stats perform Walter Payton award and Jerry Rice award as a the top offensive player and top freshman player in the football championship subdivision Lance accounted for 42 total touchdowns led the nation in passing efficiency 18.6 and set an NCAA all divisions record for most passing attempts in a season without an interception 287 before being selected number three overall by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2021 NFL draft [Music] just 17 career starts only one game due to co this year a young man from a small town in Minnesota couldn't get recruited by many power five schools as a quarterback and he decided to bet on himself and believe in himself he is a quarterback he thought North Dakota State agreed he had 17 Stellar starts for them and now he strolls to an NFL draft floor tears in his eyes as the quarterback of the future of the San Francisco 49ers what a moment it's Trey Lance everybody which means Justin Fields is Matt and Ma Jones are still on the board we'll discuss that in a moment but for the moment let's take this in this is big I I'm excited for Trey Lance this is somebody again you mentioned it rich he bet on himself think about a life change where I talked to I asked him what he was doing wondering if there was going to be a season he was trying to work out and throw he was spending some time babysitting a family's kid so he could make some money to live while he was staying in Fargo and now fast forward he only plays one game this year he's the third pick in the draft going into an unbelievable situation with the 49ers great for him Hedberg tutored eventual number two overall pick Carson Wentz to a record setting season as a first year starter in 2014 the bisen junr passed for a School record 3,111 yard while also setting School marks for passing attempts and completions Wentz was 20 and3 as the Bison starter and led NDSU to victories in the 2014 and 2015 National Championship Games before starting as a rookie in 2016 with the Philadelphia Eagles what's it mean five championships in a row for North Dakota State I think it might take a couple years for that set and uh something I don't think we ever dreamed of but it's awesome congratulations Jake Landry was hired as offensive coordinator and running backs coach at North Dakota State University in February 2024 he is a native of Grand Forks North Dakota previously he was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of St Thomas in St Paul Minnesota for the 2022 and 2023 Seasons he has 13 years of coaching experience including nine at the division 1 level coach Landry was an offensive intern with quarterbacks in Northern Illinois in 2013 when coach POC was at Northern Illinois as the tight ends fullbacks coach a state championship winning quarterback at Grand Forks Central High School in 2005 Landry went on to become a 2-year starting quarterback and team captain for the University of North Dakota during his playing career from 2007 to 2010 like you mentioned I think on the radio when Tyler was still going to be the offense according to that he would call the plays is that the plan with with Jake is to have him call the offensive plays or will you kind of be in the I mean you're obviously always on the headset but is is it kind of going to be his deal yeah it's going to be Jake Steel I think the number one thing for us to get established is for our players to be really comfortable and Jake had worked in this formation system before some of the shift trade motions will be very similar um but the formations very very similar to what we were doing at Northern Illinois and here so I think that's first and foremost Jake has got to learn our stuff and then what we're going to what I'm going to challenge the staff on coming out of May is okay Jake where do you see this thing headed and he's going to be the play caller for sure but I I do want to make this perfectly clear um with Dan Larson moving to the Run game coordinator he's going to have a lot of responsibility in the preparation and putting together the game plan and then Jake will make some determinations on what what will go to the call sheet and then I think Randy Hedberg we're just really lucky guys this is not a deal where we had to hire somebody to come in and and reshape the whole damn thing I mean we've got a pass game coordinator up there that's been with our quarterback that's the most important person in our program okay um who knows him very well and the first thing we got to do is call plays that that guy's comfortable with and so Jake will be our play caller andry what what are some of the kind of differences I'm sure you're taking in information through a fire hose right now but um just your background what you ran at St Thomas what was going on in Northern Illinois and then what are kind of the differences in or or just things you have to get used to in in this offensive system yeah I think like like coach Paul SE said we're working through that right now we're collaborating as a staff of what's been done here what what can be different what can improve what what can get taken out you know and like coach Paul SE said cam Miller and Cole and what what do they do well you know and how do we enhance that how do we improve that and and how do we expand upon that Grant Olen a record setting All-America linebacker during his career at North Dakota State returned his Al Mama as the linebacker's coach in 2019 he was named defensive coordinator in 2024 Under head coach Tim PC he has been a part of three NCAA division 1 FCS national championship teams as a player and three as a coach with a bison three players have earned All America honors during Olson's time as linebacker management degree and is married to former LPGA tur golfer Amy Olsen who was a four-time NCAA qualifier and Summit League golfer of the year with the [Music] Bison you got to push this thing in and then lift okay everybody understand okay we do three reps good run run run run run good good good I started kind of my roots are division 3 football I played at Wisconsin oir kind of traveled on around a little bit from Ohio to Illinois few places coached in division 3 football kind of how I got to North Dakota State uh uh you know many people know that myself and and Coach paac grew up together high school teammates he's a year older than I am uh so we played High School football together and and they've known each other for a long time know again I I I I believe in what these guys do I know they're going to compete hard and those are the type of kids that I love to we got to find kids that truly love the game and have a passion for the game being an NDSU football player is one of the hardest things you ever go through but it can also be the most rewarding experience it goes everywhere from the community to the the people to the kids to the university uh you know it's it's it's prideful winning games it's it's you know not taking uh any losing efforts whatsoever uh there's a lot of thing that a lot of things that go into it it's hard to exactly put it in words but uh when we step on the field there's no doubt that what drives this program what drives this football team is the pride that we have in this University and the alumni and the community things like that and that's what helps us win football Gams Joe Basher joined the North Dakota State University football staff in January 2021 he was the bis and running backs coach for Four Seasons before being named Rochelle New York in 2014 then was a defensive back at Oklahoma for three seasons 2015 through 2017 where he started 17 games in his career with 120 tackles eight deflections and two interceptions Devin kimman was named the safey coach for the North Dakota State University football program in January 2024 kimman spent the past five seasons on the football staff at Kansas State Devon Kim's captain in 2014 and made the all Missouri Valley Football Conference first team he was invited to the Minnesota Vikings training camp in [Music] 2015 per PFF total FBS and FCS combined ratings of 261 teams North Dakota State University was number one for passing grade number one for receiving grade number four for overall offense grade number eight for key plays number 17 for run blocking and number 26 for rushing [Music] grade on the field you can run the ball you can throw the ball can attack defenses in multiple ways what goes through your head when you're out there just to know which way is best to kind of get those yards and get this team and the offense moving forward I think a big part of that is the preparation that I do throughout the week um a lot of the practice reps and the film that I watch everything kind of slows down on Saturday I have a lot of trust in our wide receivers and tight ends to make plays for us not a lot goes through my head I try not to think because when you think that's when you make mistakes so I try to just trust my reads and play Within Myself And of course this team does a lot of winning we've seen the all the championships down in the hallways of the facilities and whatnot is there any pressure year after year to kind of live up to the standard and kind of Chase that Championship we don't talk about championships much we know our goals and our goals are to win the conference Championship and the national championship but we don't bring those up a lot we're just so process oriented where we take it one day at a time and one game at a time and focus on building this team the best we can each team has used a timeout here for a third down and nine seems like we haven't had live action here in about 5 hours third and nine Miller steps up throws that's caught Nelson can he get in touchdown North Dakota State Raja Nelson into the land of six again Nelson in the slot camiller time now races for the goal line did he get there he did touchdown bison Bon try to respond Miller look at the room for cam Miller he's going a cut back and it's a touchdown North Dakota State Miller holded Back Field here NASCAR package for the buys it here as pton will take it look at the seam Cole pyton he's going to go touchdown North Dakota State he may run all the way to obaja 70 yards I guess that's why you give him a full series H unbelievable run there from Cole pton the Delta formation we've seen this throughout the history of indu you going to see watch one two three four Eagle Defenders all go with that action to the sideline might have forgotten number Nine's a pretty good runner himself he shows off the Speed and how you're going to get Cole Payton back in the game 6' 3 230 lbs at quarterback almost always a run when he's in the game Rajan Nelson joins him in the back field Matt end said he's a freak Rony Jones thinks he could be a tight end in the next level here come the jets Payton to the house hands to his right stiff arm got away from another down the Sid line 4550 pton into the clear the main 3530 angling left to the 20 1510 wow what a run touchdown Cole Payton oh oh my goodness Cole Payton making something out of nothing 61 yards all the way to the house now with a sack and a pick as Cole pton is into the game a quarterback he lobs this one for Stuffle Stuffle inside the 20 breaks a tackle touchdown into the game for the first time at quarterback today he'll keep it himself here and look at this the scene for colle Payton at the 40 got one man to beat Peyton down the sideline Dives no touchdown North Dakota State a 65 yd run for Cole pyton in a full game he lost Cole Payton in here and look at this pton bounces off a guy he's still on his feet touchdown North Dakota State Cole Payton did it again Payton this is what he's out there to do he will always run it has a seam and he bursts through it touchdown [Applause] [Music] bison right away I mean everyone he had offers to leave and he didn't which is unreal I know I know Cody actually had probably a big big part of that just telling him you know obviously there's a really good chance at NC we put a lot of offensive line in the NFL but um no just seeing gray I mean I remember him coming on campus during CO as a 18yearold freshman ended up having to play that spring and just to watch him grow from you know he's always kind of had that uh I'll say confidence to him um which is obviously great when you're a a the type of athlete type of player he is but to see him grow from you know learning from guys like Cordell Bolson and uh you know Cody and then now to be that leadership that leader at Chief RAM on the uh on the offensive line is pretty cool and I'm excited he's going to have a massive year and I'm I'm excited to watch [Music] all you need [Music] do needs this extra point to send us to double overtime good snap good hold kick is blocked heartbreaking bosan again for the four time in 5 years NDSU eliminates Montana State 14th straight quarterfinal appearance for the winningest team ever in FCS football and what a fashion to do it it's hard to say who blocked it but it looks like hter ponas was in there 76 he got his P yes yes the big 68 315 pounder gets the Paw up and [Applause] man this this game will make the same thing that'll make you laugh can make you cry going from the the joy of scoring a touchdown to [Music] devastating loss for Montana State and their 26 game home winning streak that was the longest active in division one football has come to an end at the hands of the team that has done it to them over and over and over again and it happens to a backup lineman who in there that that comes in and makes the play for you incredible incredible game [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] tight end Joe Stuffle is retured to NDSU for an additional year of Eligibility he was named to the pre-season all mvfc second team he was an all Missouri Valley Football Conference honorable mention in 2023 he played in 14 of 15 games with 13 starts to tight end ndsu's fourth leading receiver with 25 receptions for 293 yards and a team High six touchdowns tied a career high with four catches in the season opening win against Eastern Washington at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis accounting for 28 yards and two touchdowns also made four catches and four back-to-back conference games against South Dakota and Missouri State career-high 84 receiving yards in the home win over Western Illinois including a career-long reception of 49 yards for a touchdown now with a sack and a pick as Cole pton is into the game a quarterback he lobs this one for Stuffle Stuffle inside the 20 breaks a tackle touchdown North Dakota State Stuffle In The End Zone again touchdown the big play bison are back Dom just a play action there you see Joe Stuffle started on one side of the line of scriage came all the way across the Deep Over tough route to cover especially in manto man when all you're underneath coverage is worried about the run and then how about the broken tackle and the speed to find a way to get1 brosio brought in now as the fullback and they bring in Truman weire as well back now he'll throw touchdown North Dakota State Joe Stuffle in the end zone [Music] [Music] from the central Arkansas 6 play fake Miller wide open TouchDown Hunter brosio first career score 49 hter broo boy that one's got to feel good he told me in Fall Camp I'm finding the end zone this year and there it is and not surprising I mean you think about a year ago everything that was thrown to Hunter lipkey and you just had to imagine at some point I mean the offensive coordinators coaches fullbacks and Titans [Music] one TK Marshall's got a Hole Marshall hit hit hard but look at him carry the pile he Charles was the first one look at this still going forward lurches to the 21 that's the first time this season that's happened it's a gain of 10 I was just going to say that D feels like we saw this at least once a game a year ago hadn't seen it yet this three backs behind Miller they'll give it Marshall stumbling but able to get into the end zone for the touchdown North Dakota State his first rushing touchdown of the [Music] Season yeah you see everybody walked up on the line of scrimmage and I love the play call go outside a little bit Marshall like you mentioned almost stumbled but just a clear path into the end zone a great job up front from ngu and again I love the hand off here on the stretch can Marshall he's in touchdown North Dakota State [Music] second of the day for the Minneapolis kid hand it off here to TK Marshall he's got the first down and then some Marshall here to the outside one man to beat on the stiff arm still going touchdown North Dakota State it's a hatrick for TK [Applause] [Music] Marshall and I there it's it's uh safe to to say Dom that they got the running backs how about that move right there in the hole again you talk about running backs trying to make someone Miss break some tackles oh TK Marshall did it twice right there good job at the point of attack though get him into that second level but then you see this season Southern has one of them they'll go to Marshall up the middle touchdown North Dakota [Music] State and the B and have blown this one open let's go back to the bread and butter you see Jake pulling around there that's that AAP power and then look at the seam I mean for you to get a scene that big on the one yd in the back field and penu will get the carry he cuts back in penu turning forward is the in touchdown North Dakota State West Fargo shy ends Fric has his second career rushing touchdown and a guy that's just continued to get better as well Dom I think Bap penu every time you get him the ball he's just exciting to watch see good patience there once again keep talking about it but press the outside edge get the defense to flow and then find that vertical cut back good go back here to penu nice Cut look at that one penu touchdown North Dakota state that was slippery and made so much easier because they were able to cover up guys at the second level I'm watching the line of scrimmage Dom and there's just no penetration there from the defense a good read from Cole pyton to hand that one off really just not a lot there from Bria pen who just got to weave your [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] short most of the time Nelson gets it on the end of round the wide receiver looking for the pylon and he's in this a shorter kick that Nelson will take from his own two- yd line makes a cut back inside Raja Nelson into in the open field and Nelson has one man to beat trying to beat Tucker large down the sideline will cut back inside he gets all the way down to the 20 yd line and the Bison get a big play on special team hand off Raja Nelson he's had a good day too cutting to the 35 out to the 40 and there goes Raja Raja at the 2520 1510 End Zone touchdown touchdown Raja he has a great vision he can start and stopping it back to full speed quicker than anyone else and he adds a different Tempo D I'll let you take this one away got for Raja Nelson in the open space Nelson touchdown 76 yards his first touchdown in nearly two years that's got to feel pretty good Kyle his second career Collegiate touchdown heison offense with three and out they scored a touchdown and now maybe on the doorstep of another three and out here in the second half third and nine Miller look at the time still with it waiting for somebody to get open now goes down the field he's got two guys there Nelson goes up and catches it Nelson all the way down to the 32 yd line for a first down Lippy to the bottom of your screen five wide receivers in the game Miller floats this one that one hold in on the reception is Rog Nelson for a first down he'll Mark him out at the SIU 45 a g of 29 yeah a little bit of different look there from Southern Illinois if you watch him on film this is a team that likes to play quarters or quarters meaning you have two high safeties went manto man there [Music] just inside the 10 yd line with a first down and goal to go from the eight Miller fakes to brillan Henderson can he get in the stretch no signal [Applause] yet they say touchdown North Dakota State Henderson's second career receiving [Applause] touchdown that's a long time coming yeah almost doubling his catching catching or his receiving total of DC this the same play that we saw earlier you're going to fake The Zone read there you're going to bring a quick wide receiver we saw Jake Lippy earlier and then a nice of BR Henderson one of three on third down conversions this be a heck of a one if they get this Miller wants to air it out Henderson down there he caught it brayan Henderson all the way down to the SIU 27 Y Line What A Catch it's just running four verts right you're just trying to take a shot to see what you can do you actually had two guys back there but you see Bren Henderson just runs away from him and then how about the catch over the head Willie Ma he [Music] [Music] h [Music] [Music] he he we go come on come on get off the ball go go come on set hit let's go get off the ball guys let's go seted set Hit It Go Fire the hands elbow tight a little okay now one outside zone so now listen we're going to do either inside zone or outside Zone you got to read you got to read it we go outside Zone you now got to know those two bags right good good good got way to be in attack mod Sam see you right tack [Music] [Music] [Applause] go go go and with the momentum here after the buys and denied points granowski in trouble and down he goes Dylan Hendricks comes up with a sack first time today Baker under pressure and down he goes Dylan Hendrick in the his fifth sack of the [Music] season it's a third and 11 was a loss of one morrisy waiting now flushed and down he go that ball is fumbled it's loose nobody's picked it up yet there's a mad Scramble for it here to see who's in the bottom of the pile BS in the game mlan under pressure and down he goes for a sack Hendrick in there to bring him down and it'll be fourth down number 54 Jake Jason patrino that was a bull rush if I ever saw one third and long Chambers into trouble again he's dropped Dylan hendris the other defensive end two on the last two points Chambers can't get away just so good beating kettles these guys stepped up when they needed them that defensive front man they had gone six year doing this what's the excitement level for you personally yeah I'm really excited uh excited to get back after it it's it's been a long spring and we got a really exciting game one so whole season's going to be really fun I bet everybody's excited on the team and we we've been working really hard this summer so far in this spring and we're ready to get after it I know we visited at the Spring Showcase about wrapping up Spring ball on the defensive side give us how things look there with with goo and and Goose calling things and how if anything things will look different for 2024 yeah no they they've been uh preaching different uh from when they started uh being CCS they're trying to make it more simple and uh as we've been going through installs and the Playbook and stuff like that it's definitely getting back to what we used to do before uh uh patrino and all them were there and change trying to change stuff up and it's back to the the OG based stuff which I like and it's simple for everybody's minds and it's been easier for the young guys to get to know it better too so it's been good for us how would you describe your year last year what would be the best way for you personally how you felt you played last season I'd say it had its ups and downs um I was coming off what the broken leg it wasn't always always 100% but I thought I played good at sometimes and played bad at sometimes and it was a little rocky for me sometimes getting back to it but uh this year I'm hoping for a big big uptick and all that uh production and snap count and all that so I'm excited 21 in Cedar Falls here's a third down and four Under Pressure that's deflected and it's intercepted and it's picked off it's Eli moart for a pick six touchdown he's tied his brother3 the big fella rumbles in for a bison score there's no better feeling for a defensive lineman than this one look at this just bringing pressure right up the middle actually has a guy open Eli moart give him the hattick bats the pass up in the air picks it and returns it for a touchdown there is nothing better for a defensive line number 53 he [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] at our first Western Bank and Trust down in distance it's third down and eight Robertson flushed again slings this intercepted it's picked off Logan C with the pick what a start to the season for this guy he's still on his feet he's finally brought down to the 23 yd line his third career interception what else can he do well I believe he was all state on offense and defense as a high school player and you see what he can do when he gets the ball in his hands this is one Derrick Robertson I I think he's he's just better when he's in the pocket and he doesn't have to move you see him have to get off his spot there and panics a little bit Logan cop if you could see there on the wide angle there he's just sitting in his Western has the ball at the 38 and a badly needed first down it's morresy tipped intercepted cop did it again it was tipped by Benson and cop comes up with a pick on the fair catch signal so Murray State will go to work from the 25 Williams intercepted cop how did he make that play with one hand another interception for the St Louis kid what a play he do that with one hand oh this is such a good play cuz he starts it looks like he's going to Blitz you see right there just goes up with the one hand and bats it right to himself I actually thought it was a good read there from DJ WIlliams you see because NSU is bringing pressure he knew he wasn't going to have a lot of time he had manto man across the board got the ball out quick but you see Logan cop he kind of faked day under pressure and down he goes for the sack cop unblocked well this is exactly what we saw in the first drive of the game where you and I moved it right down this is almost the exact same Blitz you see just just not communicating well just not getting the protections the way that they want them on the [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] 9 seconds to go in the half viseris goes over the middle intercepted Cole wh ESI comes up with the pick and he's got some room Cuts back up and he's down all the way to the 40 yd line and that will end the first half WIS nescu found the end zone in the FCS playoffs in his first game at safety he's going to keep that balls Maine gets the ball at its own 33 yd line as Robertson hit as he thre it intercepted again wisneski has another one on unbelievable he's got three in a game and a half well why not why wouldn't it be this guy guy great job getting his eyes turned around NSU brings up brings pressure brings the house you see Robertson getting hit as he thrown just floats this one a little bit but Co nessi good job getting his eyes around seeing the ball is kind of floating a little bit and then just has risen From the Ashes In 2023 to win 10 games most impressive win in school history intercepted off the caram wisneski has it originally tipped by Luke Works IND DSU forcing a turnover the 19th interception of the season for this defense by Far and Away Rody that leads the country on a first down a low snap day over the middle intercepted wisneski with the pick and he's got some room down the sideline wisneski Cuts back in can he get there there still on his feet slowed up he's trying touchdown it's a pick six for Cole wiesi what a play all right so it's 100 days out how much have you actually looked at Colorado film well you know the the comment I would make on that is enough you know I feel good about where I'm at um but it's interesting interesting because you got a new D coordinator you got a new o coordinator you have a situation where 18 new players or different players are going to be joining so our guys are actually this week we're doing a simulated game plan week um and we're using Colorado to do that and so they're very much in a mode of trying to be as intense as they can in May for an opponent they're going to play we're going to play in August um and so I'm looking forward to getting some of that feedback back from the coordinators um situational feedback and then I think this game is going to come down to us it's not going to be about what they do um it's about a couple of their players and us being on point with those players but our systems and our schemes have to be very sound in this one because it's not going to be a matter of out game planning each other because we we're going to have very little information hey before I let you go I ESPN told me I was visiting with them about this yeah there's a lot about Dion a little bit about this as well is about North Dakota State tell me about that you've been gone now back to say Okay first game as a head coach Prime Time Under The Lights Thursday night likely the first college football game on on ESPN give me the emotions on that when I say that I just fire up yeah like I give you the coach speak uh it's just another opponent no it's one of these potential Landmark um games or opportunities for us and for our kids to be on national TV Okay so we've got to be open to the idea of going to the deep end of the pool this fall Camp so we can play we can play very relaxed very free and very aggressive on that opportunity that we get on that Thursday and quite frankly regardless of the opponent but why run from this is an FBS game and at NDSU we've cherished these moments um they've led to a lot of great stories a lot of uh unbelievable experiences for our fan base it wouldn't matter who we were playing first but maybe it adds just a little tick you know this is going to be cool it's I'm looking forward to it um we'll be prepared as a staff our players will be prepared so that we can enjoy it
