I think he's done it on International level I think you're fine you we don't really look at him in his in the club shirt you don't when he plays for England he's on it he's mind he's focused if you're going to pick Gish why haven't you picked how do you pick a goalkeeper like Ram despite the fact that he's a excellent goalkeeper who isn't playing well Gish is in the squad again that makees the same argument he's not playing that's the same argument Martin getting used to the idea now he's had his first uh news conference that g Southgate has gone and and Lee carsley is a man yeah it takes a bit getting used to um I think Lee is coming in and U sort of putting his own stamp on things it's interesting to see um some of the players that have worked with the 21s he's got a big group of those is it six or seven that he's worked with in the past that he's brought into the squad players that he you know that he knows a lot about yeah um so um you can look at that and say there's one or two favorites there you can look at the minutes that certain people have played but that's you know that's his prerogative to pick the players that he he trusts he believes in um and it's the start of of a new future for for him well you you've hit the nail on the head actually Martin what he's done carsley he's chosen six players who played key roles when H they were in his under 21 side who beat Spain and won the under 21 Championship just last year in 2023 and and carsley himself opened up about the selection of those very players I'm I'm sure people will be a lot more aware of Morgan maybe than Angel um Morgan's a a very attacking player full of energy um very creative very exciting brilliant attitude excellent work rate um very difficult to play against um you know he's he's been really successful with England which I thought as well was was important that you know a lot of these players that we've we've called in are used to winning they're used to winning um and getting to L stage of tournaments and doing really well um you know Morgan and and and Angel for instance would have would have been Part of That World Cup team um a few years back that that won obviously they've done the Euros as well well so that was an important thing Angel Angel's probably different to what we would have seen in the past in terms of the um the center midfielder that's um probably a little bit more physical more robust um Angel's very technical um he controls the game with his skill and his technique um he's very very determined he's got an excellent attitude uh loves football um like I say technically and tactically he's excellent and I think he's a he's a player that people are going to really be excited to see you've got n madek who's been brilliant yeah for Chelsea so far what does he bring why does he get his first call up well n's done really well for for the 21s um n's really improved um his his all round game um his goals and assists um the way that the way that he started the season in terms of his energy and his pace and his directness um I think he's he's a player that will be um really important for us this Camp he's a player that I know um I've I've worked with him in the past um hopefully I can get the best out of him I think we definitely he'll definitely help the squad as well I think he'll bring an energy to the squad um bearing in mind that obviously you know we're coming off the back of losing in the final I think that the squad maybe need that little that little injection of of of enthusiasm and energy and the new players that come in will definitely bring that um so it's it's probably um these these players have have have have earned the right to start um like I say I don't think this is this is going to be the squad for the next you know probably be a few changes as well next next uh next Camp the main thing is is that I'm out watching games as are the rest of the stuff and you know everyone's going to get a fair shot Simon I remember G Southgate was criticized at the start of his Reign for bringing in some of his so-called favorites but carsley is doing the same here isn't he yeah it's exactly the same thing I mean the one thing that you all do is if you put a lawyer in charge of business you're being caught and if you put an under 21 manager in charge of the national side you'll see a lot of the under 21s finding themselves in the squad it's it's exactly what G Southgate did it's also something that's easier to manage because younger players are often easier to manage and also if you know them you've got a working relationship with him so I I would be I would have been very surprised if he didn't especially given the opposition um you'll have your main stay of players I mean the squad is a squad but you'll start with your most formidable 11 um and you'll see The Usual Suspects are in amongst that a few exclusions and Kyle Walker given the last tournament surprisingly how poor he was in that tournament because I happen to think he's the best right back in the world by a mile and I was surprised to see him perform at times the way he did in that tournament it was almost like it was one tournament too many for him and I don't want to R him off because I think he's an outstanding player but I'm not surprised at all with that that Carley you don't agree with that no kle Walker no I think he should be in the squad look it it's one of those where I think Lee carsley will pick what he believes to be the best possible team to do it now I remember years ago suffering in this situation when we lost Kevin Keegan in fact I managed I I was the captain of the the previous Squad okay Peter Taylor came in it felt like a real poke in the eye actually it's interesting because trip here has seen it as like okay red flag I'm out of here and I wouldn't have done that I'd have said well okay I'm going to stick around a little bit because this is just the first Squad and and very often when someone's come from the 21s they're going to put the 21 players in so you'll see you'll seeing midow wake and players like this and think okay does do they really deserve to be in there but they the manager seen enough himself I'm not sure they can make that step up when we start getting to qualification games I would like to see K Walker there I know he hasn't started the season yet for City but that's only because of the privileged position he's in at city where he's got copious quality around him so the manager can sort of pick and choose when he makes his exit his his entrance into the season same as Roder same as all these top players that will get extra rest at city where they where they didn't get that rest OE Watkins for instance at Villa had to play you know very quickly into the season didn't play a preseason friendly so we get this sort of change and I yeah yeah okay go in Lee you're the boss you make the decisions it's about getting results if he gets the results that's absolutely fine you're looking at one or two of these now someone's just put the T I think Li liver momento is a really good uh option deserves they're getting these opportunities early by the way you know so that's a good thing isn't it yeah yeah correct I like to get it out of the way get their their debutes out of the way um he's already played of course but dunk uh doesn't make the squad a bit that's a bit of a a poke in the eye I'd say Maguire and stones will probably be the two Central Defenders uh Co will does he deserve an opportunity yet uh question mark for me that one I link I think he's a really good talent he's left footed He gives balance is he really ready yet um only the manager knows Alexander Arnold looks like he's coming in now as a fullback he was always listed as a Midfield player in recent times so a little bit of change there Gomez in Midfield is an interesting one gone away didn't sign a contract to Manchester United been at Le played over 100 games for them and and I can see I can see that but it's not everybody's Choice yeah um apart from that Gish hasn't started clearly he's a preference for greish and I I'm kind of with that because I think he's an outstanding Talent um and he's got a point to prove he hasn't kicked a ball really for Man City be interesting to see what I mean I don't I didn't suggest that KL Walker should be in the squad I suggested the reasons uh in the last tournament I'm I would be interested to see why he hasn't put Kyle Walker in the squad because I'm still in the camp that I think Kyle Walker despite the level of performance that he showed in the Euros which I was surprised by to me still is the best right back unless there's something that we don't are not privy to I'd be surprised if he isn't in further squads but then again it's about i' agree with you Simon looking at the opposition that's just us do we see it differently to you Martin I wouldn't have gone with I wouldn't have gone with to pick Gish why haven't you pick how do you pick a goalkeeper like Ram despite the fact that he's a excellent goalkeeper who isn't playing well greish is in the squad again that makes the same argument he's not playing that's the same argument so it's manager's preference isn't it actually S one guy if you're a bit sorry for his Adam Wharton who who goes to Germany doesn't get a kick first Squad announcement from gley and he's not in it but that's a very interesting one because you would think that was the go-to player because he's the 21s yeah and he's migrated from the 21s very quickly and Carley is making decisions that he is definite not interested in anyone else's opinion because quite frankly why should he be he should be interested in the opinion that he makes because he's the guy that's got to live with the consequences of it and we'll debate it and we'll pick the bones out of it but he'll know the reasons why and he'll live and die by them and I think there's an element of Revolution not too much Revolution because I think it wouldd be fool Hardy for him to be overly starting this Exodus of people that players that people think might have had their day and the argument was run and I think it's a silly argument that Harry Kane might be a consideration for perhaps having had his time and taking the captaincy away and giving it to Dean rice all of these things will come in due course but Harry Kane is still a force we might have been disappointed with what we saw from him in the europ Championships but I guarantee in qualifying games Harry Kane will score goals for England and that's the prim primary motivation for having him why do you think he selected Jack Gish Martin because he has a preference for he thinks he's a top quality player I mean this is this is good leadership from Lee because he's he's like okay being assertive these are the players I want this is what I've looked at over a period of time um as I say there's one or two that um that haven't made it um I'm just looking through that list Ivan Tony obviously Luke Shaw Joe Gomez is not featured I get I get that um yeah so we've talked about the players but the one these will come in but this there competition for places that's what he's trying to develop yeah it's it's a little nod to the to the Future uh but will they take those opportunities that's what they only do this must be very disappointing talking about Ivan Tony without going into particular specifics that I'm not privy to at this moment in time you're looking around you're not finding what you thought you were going to find which was a a raft of top Premier League clubs wanting to buy you so you're going to Saudi Arabia because the economic return is so great that you can't turn it down and then you're dropped from an England squad this can't be reality great for Ivan Tony there's no there's no positive Reformation of Ivan Tony's credentials he worked his whole career to get into the position he is right now and it's only it's only this the hanging of this big offer dangling there that stopped him getting in the England squad because if he' played the start of the season and it wasn't a problem about his contract he'd be in the squad but then Jack Gish hasn't played so and ramsdale hasn't played so you know ramale is not in the squad but not withstanding that Jack Gish is
