REACTION: Kansas State SURVIVES @ Tulane, Penn St struggles at home l College Football Podcast

Kansas State oh boy that was close that was close that was close that was fun that was too close for comfort if you're the wild cats but the big 12 avoids a completely disastrous day was not looking good for a while Cincinnati blew a huge lead I mean a huge lead to pit that was not good that was not good you know what was good Kansas State came back to win the football game Darian meno was carving them up I'll get to the questions Kansas state has in a moment here are the answers 215 rushing yards on the ground six and a half yards of carry DJ giddens was that guy he had a long touchdown reception he ran for 114 yards Dylan Edwards the Colorado transfer remember when we talked about that one on the show long long ago in a galaxy far far away that came into play because he had four carries for 54 yards and a touchdown Avery Johnson wasn't incredible throwing the ball but he was more than capable enough and Kansas State showed you what we thought they'd be coming into the year I say we as if there are other people producing this show it's just me but we myself and others what we thought about Kansas State or the narrative around the Wildcats coming into this year was they're going to have a great running game and guess what they do that that that that was a fantastic effort against a good two-lane team John Sall is a heck of a coach Darian menah was carving him up he had a couple of late turnovers he's a young guy don't forget the name Darian Mena because he might be a starting quarterback in a college football playoff game coming to a television near you by the time the regular season comes to a close but the Green Wave are a good team they should be viewed as a contender in the American as they were coming into this season it's an impressive game it's a disappointing one to win they had Kansas State down 20 to1 at home with a half to go and they couldn't hold on 34-27 the final score Kansas State eeks it out improves to two and0 and I think for the Wildcats here here here's where the questions come in and where questions do need to be raised Darian Mena in this game 19 completions that's the two-lane quarterback 342 yards and two touchdowns with an interception game sealing interception full credit to the Kansas State Defense for making a play late Kansas State's got defensive questions right now I have Kansas in the Big 12 championship game against Utah who as I'm recording this are already up 14 nothing on Baylor no surprise there if you're Kansas State you feel good that you got the win you keep a distant hope of an at large College playoff birth Alive by winning this game you give yourself the confidence to know we can go on the road we can beat a good team we've been battle tested early in the year survived a good punch from a good two- Lane team but boy that defense has got questions there were too many times I mean way way way way way way way way too many times where Kansas State just had coverage busts and gave Darian men easy throws he made some good ones don't don't me wrong menah made a lot of good plays but he was given a lot of wide openen guys to throw the football too that's got to improve that has got to improve starting next week who does Kansas State play next week just off the top of your head oh that's right they play Arizona Friday night game on Fox at home that'll be a top 20 matchup because Arizona will throttle NAU later today and then that'll set up a couple of undefeateds and it's not a conference game but it sure will be reflective of how the Big 12 Conference Championship race is going to play out how real is Arizona that game is in Manhattan you can't have those sorts of coverage busts against Arizona that's got to be tightened up or Teto McMillan and Noah faid they'll just keep throwing number four the ball from number 11 and boom they'll go for 300 yards as T-Mac did last week in their season opening win against New Mexico so questions about Kansas State but certainly important and notable that they were able to get the victory another game I want to talk about here my goodness this is this is all in the morning there's still an entire day uh that I'll get to on on Monday show because I've got uh work play byplay and such to do later today but um my goodness Penn State 34 Bowling Green 27 this is a Penn State Defense that went on the road last week and held West Virginia under 20 and then they come back home and they were they were losing by 10 they were losing in the second half to Bowling Green credit to the Falcons for playing a heck of a game their quarterback Connor bazelak had uh 254 yards passing a couple of touchdowns also a couple of interceptions Penn State ran for 234 yards in this game Drew Aller 204 yards passing couple touchdowns interception 13 to 20 throwing the football you 200 yard rushers why was this game close why was this game just an off day an off day look I love Penn State I love them coming into the year I think they're going to end the regular season 11 and one I think they are all but a lock after their win against West Virginia to make the college football playoff important game to escape here because it could have been a colossal upset I mean a major very bad no good ugly upset against Bowling Green what was the line on this game the I think the I think the nitty lions were favored by uh something north of 30 30 to 40 points ah yes 35 and a half was the number well that's a Bowling Green cover but it is a Penn State win does that linger does that start to become Penn State's identity are they going to eat this stuff out I don't think so I I think Penn State will be fine but not a game that I expected to see they have Kent State at home next week and then Illinois and UCLA so they've played one of four consecutive home games I expect them to be five and0 before they go to currently 13th ranked USC on October 12th in one of the greatest College football days in recent memory so Penn State's got to clean that sort of stuff up I think they can they have plenty of soft opponents on the way but I just was not expecting that I I was not expecting Penn State I if if I'd done a game preview prediction and and and pick you know whatnot here on the show I probably would have picked Penn State to cover 35 and a half because they usually take inferior opponents and beat them down like they did West Virginia last week and west Virginia a much better team than Bowling Green that's why these games are played on the field not on paper so Penn State came out flat footed probably Riding High little emotional letdown Factor I'd suspect if you're a gambling person listening to or watching this show I'd suspect they they get that chip on their shoulder back that they lost after blowing out West Virginia 34 to2 they get it back against Ken state next week uh the betting line on that game whatever it is I might take Penn State might take Penn State but if Kent State goes in to uh to to Penn State's home field and and they and they beat him badly or not beat him badly but they put up more points than they should if the game is closer and Penn State doesn't beat them badly then we might have to have serious questions about what Penn State has going on defensively but I suspect they will write the ship and we'll look back and say that this was an aberration so for those listening who are watching the show in the immediate hours after the Morning window I thank you for doing so and just a couple of of predictions we'll see how these end up playing out uh I do believe that Utah is going to continue to cruise over Baylor I think Iowa is going to win by three to four points over Iowa State I think Nebraska is going to win over Colorado 34-24 I think Kansas wins by the same score in Champagne Illinois over the Ali and uh NC State I think they can hang with Tennessee a little I don't know if they can hang with Tennessee a lot
