oh Iowa good old Iowa good old head coach in in Kirk fence they're just going to be good they're not going to be great I'm not I have far more faith these two teams get compared a lot because they're literally Polar Opposites I have far more faith in USC's defense making improvements than I do Iowa's offense making improvements and guess what they could wind up with the same record this is going to sound very anti- Iowa you interpret it that way if you like I'm just telling you they're not a playoff team Kade mcamera he's fine he's fine think about this Kade mcamera with that Michigan roster and that program under Jim Harbaugh couldn't win a playoff game JJ McCarthy gets inserted National Championship there's a gap between good quarterbacks in college football and Kade mcnamar he's fine he's capable I didn't overreact to the scrimmage stats which were horrible it just reminded me oh yeah that's right Iowa plays really good defense Iowa was going to play really good defense and Iowa is not going to play great offense Tim Lester comes in as the offensive coordinator it can't be worse it can't be worse but do I expect a revolution on that side of the ball no do they need it not necessarily I still am going to be in believe it when I see it mode when it comes to Iowa I I just I don't buy it across the board I do not buy it that said they're still going to be better than most teams in the Big 10 as they have been for quite a while so how are they going to get to either 9 and three or 8 and four I'll tell you Illinois state is who they begin with that's a win obviously duh plainly obvious there let me come back to the Rivalry game and get through a couple more Troy on or at home I think that's a win Ohio State I think that's a loss the two games that I have glossed over here either one could be a win either one could be a loss I think Minnesota is fine I don't think Minnesota's great but that game is being played in Minnesota after they play Troy don't tell me the Minnesota can't win that football game they absolutely can't I think between at Minnesota and later in the season when they go at Maryland I think Iowa is upset in one of those games I do I do week two against Iowa State I don't feel confident enough to make a pick yet I have this as a tossup and guess what Vegas does too according to our friends at FanDuel that's spread is Iowa minus 2 and A2 they're at home they're at home and that's minus 2 and A2 now this Series has been dominated by Iowa so I I lean towards the Hawkeyes I'm just not in the make a pick Camp just yet because we're still in the month of August I know the season starts tomorrow or today depending on when you're listening to or watching this particular show but I I I reserve the right with every team prediction to have one game as an outright toss-up going into the year I think that is this game I think Iowa state is a complete tossup you get the Rivalry factor I like Iowa State I think Iowa is good Iowa State's got the better offense first to 20 points wins go look at the last four scores in this matchup first to 20 points probably wins the game it's not going to be a big over under it's it's going to be a pretty small over under as a matter of fact and uh that game here let me uh let me actually pull up the over under here according to our friends at FanDuel Iowa and Iowa State there just can't be a lot of games with that yeah there a 37 and a half over under boy I would o that's an under bet to me I'm I'm just that's an under bet to me so like 2017 doesn't that kind of sound like how this game ends or 236 like yeah well 2316 would to be over but 1714 1713 like feels like one of those kind of games because that's what has been as of late so I think that's a tossup then after the Minnesota game where they will be at worst 2-2 at best 4-0 which means they probably come down 3- one that that'd be my guess they go at Ohio State I legitimately don't think they're going to score a point much like the big 10 championship game a year ago when I correctly predicted they would not score a point would lose 27 nothing well I was pretty darn close so they're not going to score a point in Columbus Ohio State's defense is going to blank them they come back home they play play Washington I think they win that game could lose it could lose it I like Iowa more than Washington a lot of turnover up in Seattle I trust Kirk fence at home the Iowa faith will be out in full support and Washington will be fine this year but I think Iowa's going to be a little bit better I might even take Iowa if this game were in Seattle but Iowa was at home so I'm taking the Hawkeyes there they go at Michigan State again don't sleep on Jonathan Smith's ability to pull an upset but I was the better team top to bottom that's year one of a re build and Kirk fence is not there Iowa wins that game Northwestern at home again I have a lot of these with Iowa because I don't have a tremendous amount of faith in their football team Northwestern at home I'm picking Iowa to win I don't think it's going to be pretty between Michigan State Northwestern and Washington I will not be shocked though going into the year I think all three are wins I'm not going to be shocked if one of those comes up a loss I'd be surprised if two or three of them come up as a loss that would be a disaster territory for Iowa but that's not going to happen but if they lose one of those I won't be shocked even though two of them are at home then they play Wisconsin that's a game I think they lose at home I like Wisconsin don't love him don't love him but I like him this is going to be a solid Wisconsin team you might look at their win total and say wait a minut it's only six and a half they're at best an eight- win team at worst a four or five win team that doesn't tell the whole story Wisconsin is a really tough schedule they've got to play Alabama they've got to play Oregon at home it's a tough slate it's a tough slate for Wisconsin I think they're a little bit better than their win total indicates I'll take Wisconsin to go into Iowa home building and get a win at UCLA I think UCLA stinks this year absolutely stinks I think they're one of the bottom dwellers of the Big 10 that's a win for Iowa even on the road Maryland again these feel like go either way games because they're on the road Minnesota and Maryland I think that's a split because in one possession games you can go two and0 you can go 0 and2 you probably end up going one and one on the average that's where I think Iowa Falls and then last week of the regular season I think they'll have enough to beat Nebraska I think I think you see how I don't feel supremely confident it's because I don't it's it's because I don't even in the games where I'm picking Iowa to win I don't have a high level of confidence not because I don't think they're going to be able to keep the game low-scoring enough but because I just don't know if they're going to score enough points and they they win a lot of games that are these low low-scoring slugfest and you know last year against Minnesota I think it was they had the the Cooper Dee punt return for a touchdown and it's just there are a lot of things like that that make me go eh eh I don't think they've improved enough offensively to get themselves in the college football playoff discussion I think they're N9 and3 most likely eight- four it's an or nine and three or eight and4 lean towards 9 and3 because I do trust Kirk Fen he's got a very very high floor that much has been established as a head coach and I trust him with this schedule which isn't horrifically brutal but I think it's got enough to trip him up like Nebraska I have as a win Washington I have as a win Northwestern I have as a win they could lose any one of those games they could beat Wisconsin and'll lose one of those games they could beat Minnesota they could lose to Maryland they could beat Maryland they could lose to Minnesota I think iow was going to be a really exciting team you know I talked about Ohio State recently on the show and how they are one of the most boring teams in college football this year because only have three regular season games that are interesting Michigan Penn State Oregon those games are going to be electric they're going to be great every other Ohio State game snoozefest it's GNA be a snoozefest every single week except for those three Iowa's not going to be the case I think Iowa's going to play nine or 10 highly competitive football games this year and I can't wait to watch but nine and three in the Big 10 that's not getting you into the playoff you can knock on the door I don't think you get there I don't think I will have the resume to do
