Washington Commanders' Depth Chart Surprises and First Preseason Game

Glenn and mo are out what's good George it's good to be back in Florida having driven through part of that dead oh you in Florida I'm back in Florida now I was in North Carolina for a family reunion tried to avoid the storm by driving back a day early and ended up having to hunker down in Georgia waiting for thatu to get through there it rained it rained something like SE 16 or 17 inches in Sarasota wow I could not get back until Tuesday and lots of people got flooded big time down here I didn't and and a lot of my folks didn't but a few people I know did so tough but it's to be high and dry and back in in beautiful Sarasota and I'm ready and I'm ready because this is all the weeks before this is was just appetizer now we're getting real practices and we're getting live ammo on Saturday and I can't wait yeah I mean w sorry are your families good though everybody's okay though yeah just about everybody's there's a few people that have had some issues but compared to some other people I mean there was there was serious flooding in in certain neighborhoods and like we're talking about people got getting rescued by boats and stuff that kind of flooding wow because it just that that storm was moving so slowly and all the bands were dragging down all the way to Sarasota and because once it hit land it just went to a crawl so it rained somebody told me it rained 22 hours in a row here in Sarasota Monday uh Sunday and Monday that sucks well I'm glad I'm glad you're here safely man I'm glad you're here real talk man real talk um yeah like you said though um I'm happy man I'm happy that football we getting competition football come now I can really visualize and see if somebody did I if I feel like it's going to be one of those one of them ones or is it all talk like I that's what I care about you know you George you you've been like guest on pods you actually you've watched some of the pods I've been on and um and you've co-hosted some pods I've been on and you know my like my mentality it's all about competition like I want to see you compete against somebody else and like I'm just happy we're getting here yeah well I mean and that's the thing it's like it's been kind of easy for me to somewhat ignore the early can't because you're not even in pads until the second week which again I don't agree with yeah and then you're up against each other and it's just look I love the reports coming out about J Jaden Daniels and Brandon Coleman and Jordan McGee and all these guys yeah but it's like you're practicing against your teammates it ain't the same it's not it ain't the same and so and and you got a team in the Jets that's a good profile because they got a win this year so they I feel like they're gonna except for maybe Rogers they're going to take all this stuff seriously everybody else is going to take this stuff seriously and we're really going to get a test to some of these guys that have looked good but again it's against somebody that's that's gonna be standing on the same sideline as you this year yeah I totally agree and that's a thing like I I'm just happy we're gonna find they're gonna see somebody different who's not gonna get on tennesses and what not but we're gonna get into all of that like we're gonna get into all of that before we do that make sure you I'm gotta read some particulars make sure you subscribe commanders unofficial depth chart and like we talked about earlier their upcoming preseason game against the New York Jets they're travel to New York Take on the Jets all right so the Commander's depth chart came out um George off the off the off the rip were you shocked at the dep chart and I'm gonna pull let me pull it up right now so folks can see what we talking about you know I mean so we're not like just going off or whatever there were a few things honestly the first thing was seeing Percy Butler as like the third string uh safety because we've been hearing a lot about Oh Derek forest's situation may not be great he might be in trouble I've been seeing some content creators talking about that and saying he's struggling and yet I see I see Percy Butler behind Jeremy Reeves in the third string and I don't think Percy Butler's long for this team unless he does something unless he has a pretty good game came here couple games maybe make some plays on special teams where he was primarily playing last year and that' be another recent draft choice that would be getting the thumb real quick which just kind of tells you where you're at so that's number one okay the good surprise is Jordan McGee already backing up uh Bobby Wagner you know I'm a big Jordan McGee fan I was a big fan of that draft pick and it sounds like that that this kid's on the express train to starting which may say something about some of the other linebackers that we'll get into but yeah uh that was a good surprise and they were both on defense for me McGee good and uh pery Butler not good yeah I'm trying to pull it up now but I can't actually let me do this though I'm gonna uh it's not pulled up the way I wanted to pull up so I'm gonna actually add I'm gonna add I'm G add the for off I'm G start with offense for offense my issue for offense my surprise would be Cole Brandon Coleman starting off the rip so you see Brandon Coleman here starting just starting turn this off it's not working for me Brandon Coleman starting like it's it's it's wild to me you have him at the left tackle I know you know you know he's had a lot of positive things talked about him in Camp but him starting at left tackle it's something different to me I'm having all all I'm saying I don't I can't say his last name I said this on the prior show I won't lie to you zakus zakus okay I'm say Z okay I say the Nigerian part UVA was he oh he was UVA not ODU okay zakus all right I can say his first part first because Nigerian ID is like him over like him at the at the at the slot it's surprises me but on the flip side it's not a big deal to me and I and I know a lot of people talk about like dami brown and folks like that Luke mcaffrey to me Terry McClaren and Johan Dawson could be interchangeable they can play some play some slot you could you could punch you put J Jan on the outside with a Terry Jan on the outside with the with the um Jan and have Jan or Terry on the inside because I said this before cidd lamb never plays cidd lamb never plays out barely plays outside most of times in the slot going against nickel nickel corners and and safeties you know nickel Corners are linebackers so you got so you having him there to me it's a good situation it's a good situation to have so it's more like I know a lot of people are like said like they're like oh dami's in trouble I don't look at as dami in trouble because dami is not going to dami is not a slot Corner a slot receiver he's not he's an outside receiver but you can put Terry you're not putting Terry on in slot you're not putting as a starting slot on the depth chart and you're not putting Johan a starting a starting slot on the depth chart so to me that's not a big deal but to me the tackle definitely the tackle um in um I mean in in Coleman getting the opportunity to start at left tackle I would think right tackle but left tackle I'm like wow that's a lot of trust um if you look at the defense in terms of Defense um I mentioned it before to me for me it would be I'm surprised that I'm not seeing my man Forbes starting on on the dline I know they like Michael Michael Davis um but I'm like I believe in Forbes I think Forbes is a young guy that I heard from a man Felix trell who's covered the Washington uh who's covered the the Wast commanders for for this radio station that we help I mean we work with with with this podcast um he said that forest was starting most of most of training camp and all of a sudden so this death him being a backup on the dep CH is kind of weird so and that's interesting right U but it is what it is fors to me on this on this depth chart being I'm on the second team surprises to me U but also uh but what I happy surpris is Quan Martin as a as a starting free safety that's the thing that I I love seeing I thought Jamon Davis Dante Fowler Junior starting over Jamon Davis I felt like that's more of a I I like Dante Fowler he's followed me around type of thing with Dan Quinn so um that kind of got me caught me a little bit it shocked me a littleit you say shock shocked me a little bit but all in all I mean I don't really read into read into um of the the depth chart is thorough as other people do but those are some of the things surprised me so for you like how are you how do you Vibe like the the depth chart do you feel like it's a it's something we should go off of or is it something like do you like look at it like oh this person's in trouble or what not or you look at it like I mean there's a few people that because of where they were that I'm like o that's that's not great but I almost part of me wonders why they even put I mean I guess you have to put something out before a preseason game yeah but it feels like you might be creating a few problems for yourself or creating some controversy where it isn't needed because you got now because because you have these conversations about oh is this guy this or is this guy that or it can be misinterpreted like what you said about dami Brown is is is so on target for me yeah because you're not you're exactly right he's not a slot guy so he's got to be a backup but that doesn't mean that he's on the out so they don't like him or whatever it just means that that that's where he's going to be he's probably the the fourth receiver right now which means he's not just on the team he's well inside the the line to make the team so I I do wonder about something like that and I guess it's just the nature of of the the the the the age that were're in because you know all this in I mean in the old days you wouldn't even I mean you didn't even get depth charts unless you were in the Press Box and probably didn't get him until like an hour before the game and now we're putting this stuff out days before and it's instant on internet and everybody can see it because you know there's so much more access now I think go go ahead continue the Davis thing worries me because he's Don Fowler's backup and I look at both of them as more deep pass rush specialists at this point because that's what everybody's been saying about Davis is that that's how they've been using him so where do they get in in this rotation with frell and and K KJ and dorrence Armstrong and FAO botom I GL on the team so uh I'll say this like I think that's what the Fowler thing interest me because I think Fowler is a it's a complete pass rusher that's what he is Jamon Davis is least play linebacker and he's been he can you can you've seen him out in coverage sometimes he's gotten beat sometimes he's got he's been successful Fowler is a pass rusher that is all that is what he is so if he's on an outside linebacker in a 4-3 defense I don't like that setup now again he may not be they may barely be running two Lineback barely be running three linebackers but if you're running a three linebacker set and on passing situations I'm not comfortable with Fowler I'm gonna lie to you being outside you know what I mean I think jamus is better off because you still have more versatility with Jam if you're teaching him to be a pass rusher you have more versatility with Jamon being a pass rusher and a guy who's who we've seen in coverage yes he's Gott beat I've always said he's Gott beat by players that they shouldn't be put him lining him up against but he's got but he's been in situations where he's been successful in coverage so I'm like I'd rather have a guy who's done it before in coverage than a guy who's not good at all in coverage you know what I mean like not saying Jam's the best in coverage so I don't want anybody listen to me say No jamon ain't that good either but I'm just saying that between the two Jamon is more versatile and doing both because they're teaching him to do this than Dante fer I just wonder if they're grasping with straws at Jamon if they looked at him from last year and said this is the only thing we can try because we don't think he can do anything else and I mean that's unfair but I that's the sense I get with Jamon right now until he until we see different on the field well I just feel like Jamon who was credit I said it before he gets better every year like you can look at him from year one year two year three like you can look at and just like anybody that's on this team prior to that like that we question they were coach Mor M staff they weren't coached by the best like we like just like we give other people full clearance like because they you know whatever full clearance but we and we say well he was coached by R Riv whatever but we don't do the same with other players the one thing I like about like Jamon compared to and I could be biased I do like Jamon I like Jamie but I like that for any player they get better every year like that's all I care like to me's progression year one people were down on him year two he played better year three he's played better like he had a key winning interception play interception I want to see was it against the P the Falcons a key interception against the Falcons to win the game he's had big plays um he had some big sacks he's had tackles he that close to like he had a good good year tackle was wise his best so I'm just saying like he gets better every year that's all my that's my argument with Jamon now you're right they had watch the tape and said well it's a lot to work with and we got it we already got Bobby you're not taking middle and we want you outside I got we got louu he like he's proven as a linebacker so you got to play outside and we're going to only have like in today's NFL you pretty much only have like two linebackers a lot of them Ed two line two linebackers in nickel because they're running nickel they're running some dimes and quarters you may have one linebacker right so we don't need you out there in a three linebacker set as much so that could be a play for Dam Jamon I don't I don't I I'm gonna be real with you I think the Dante Fowler thing is just more I don't want this to be be be a jerk it's more of a favoritism thing maybe because like if you look at Dante Fowler with Dan Quinn he's followed him as as a head coach he's followed him and it's not like Dante coach he's had success with yeah so it's not like and he wasn't he wasn't very successful in the Cowboys he just he just followed he he helped get him that's to be funny he help get him a job like in Dallas like I mean I'm be real with you so I think that's more of a I like him type of thing I'm not sure and every coach has that with certain players you know I said that with uh the draft pick of Luke mcaffrey he's a m mcaffrey is more of a Adam Peters I don't care if it's Adam Peters guy because he knows because of because of the brother and that mcaffrey family so it just it is what it is but I do but again Jam's a guy he still has to play he has to prove it to this fan he has to prove it to the coaching staff like to your point though George he has to prove it that's what it is like like that's the one thing that's good for Jamon is that if to me if he proves it on the field then he's gonna on in preseason in practice he's gonna have a spot you know I mean he's gonna he's gonna have a good he's gonna have a good spot if he doesn't prove it then that's the problem you know what I mean like and as a as a athlete as a player that's all you want all you want is the opportunity to prove it because we seen it here with the other with the other regime if they like you you can try to prove it and they gonna ignore you you know what I mean so he goes in here with a clean slate he has an opportunity to prove it you know what I mean so that's my thing with him is like just prove it you know what I mean like you could they could come in here with a bad they look at the jam like and look at the tape like we got a lot to work with but it's up to him to get better in training camp and up to him to get better um in pre-season to show them like oh I'm valuable so yeah but but those are my Shockers I'm but I still want to kind of see what that happens with Jamon and the rest of them but I like I mentioned about Quan Martin a been big fan of quan Martin just because what he had to deal with like were you like what's your thoughts man what does the say of him being the starting free safety for the commanders on that dep well I mean let's go back to last year as you rightly say we're not you know we gota judge it against the context of how badly yeah a lot of these players were misused last year he finally got used the right way at the end of the season he actually made some plays did well yeah and obviously this coaching staff has seen that and go okay let's let's let's do this yeah because this is what he did in college and this is this and when he finally got to play this spot the correct spot his correct position look at what he produced and he's been having a great Camp everybody's been saying that Quan Martin's been getting constant thumbs up and constant praise uh from all a lot of the quarters that I've been that I uh spaces that I see and listen to on you know online and other places so I I'm glad to see it because like everybody else I was pretty hard on Quan Martin at the start because I didn't like the pick because we'd already taken Forbes in round one and we had other needs and then you know that that preseason in first month was just that preseason was just like oh my God hisas bad yeah how did this dude do anything in Illinois and now you're seeing the real Quan Martin because he's being used properly God that coaching staff last year oh Lord help us terrible it's terrible like Quan Martin they try to play him at nickel oh in the in the preseason he was looking bad and the folks were saying wow man he don't look that good he's playing nickel man doesn't not playing safety yeah and now the guy plays safety and at the end of the season because like people were hurt and then you saw what he could do and then now this coach staff is like yeah we like him we like him more than like him more than defo like basically he's he she's replacing in Ence replacing should be replacing uh cam curl right yeah cam c one of the reasons we're not paying cam curl yeah and I've said this before like and I said this I said this before this all came out and and just when we doing our you know get into the season talk or in Camp or get into Camp talk I said that like I think he's gonna be better and no KN cam cam was great I think he's be better than cam curl he be better than cam curl he could be I think could be yeah so I'm I think this kid can really I think he's going to be I know we knocked the Rivera you know Rivera is working the draft I think this kid could be the one his draft the one guy he drafted that we could said yeah he was one of them uh I'm with you on that I'm with you on that I've turned around on Quan Martin because again I hated the pick I hated the pick and and it didn't look great early but at least now he's being used right and he's showing you what what somebody could have seen in him even if that wasn't the right allocation of a of a draft choice at the time given the other no it was bad George it was bad George it was bad it was bad pick you're right it was a bad pick though yeah I mean terms in terms of need you're right I totally agree with you don't and that's but again that's that ship is sailed M and and we're doing and and if he can be that that if he can be that player he was the last couple games of the Season then that that's gonna that's going to end up looking a lot better than what it did uh granted you'll be crediting we'll be crediting this regime and not the previous one even though we won't be we won't be crediting the over Jam you're right yeah um in terms of our our first question about what off the depth CH chart shocked Us in I put this whole thing on um x for our um ABG um Twitter XX account um my man Felix TR I mentioned it earlier said Forbes has been with the ones all Camp it's a weird list um yeah I agree with I I thought it was weird myself so George you had a question about um my man uh Percy Butler bro yeah I that kind of caught me by surprise because I was hearing a lot about Derek Forest is struggling Derek Forest might be somebody who's SP as up as questionable and yet I see Percy Butler on this on this depth chart behind behind Reeves and Martin at free safety forc to back up the chin man you know and not that he was a very high pick or anything like that but people were talking about and I think with some justification oh man Percy Butler here's our buffalo nickel that that that Ron and Jack always talk about and it wasn't that good of first year he had a couple moments but it was only a couple and man I I'm not sure Percy Butler's going to make it and I mean if that's the case I think we're going to be down to something like five draft choices on this roster from before this year and that's it and it just it just goes to show you what a waste what a waste this last several years in the draft has been we've had so few hits you know not just the previous regime but the previous regime did that too yeah it's like no wonder Adam Peters and Lance Newark and everybody else came in here and turned over half the damn roster basically 25 new guys I think yeah you know man so I'll say this I kind of knew the for me I knew all I need to know about Percy Butler and it's unfortunate to say this when he got to start last year I knew because and I was hoping that he I was hoping that he would pan out and kind of Click towards the end of the season because he was still young right so you kind of wish towards the end of the season if everything would click would click for him but he kept and and the only reason I say this is because he he has Elite Speed right he runs a 43 it's legit 4-3 he's a fast kid um and a big and a big and a big dude like a tall big safety um but he got beat a lot like on he gave up a lot of a big plays um so I knew to my point I was thinking like ah this playing safety NFL may be too big for him you know what I mean like and you would hope that again I I Rave about Dan Quinn and what he's done in PRI in Prior places in Seattle Atlanta Dallas um and so you would hop that he would kind of can coach up him and Joe Wick can coach up uh Percy Percy Butler but I was like you're not beating and I said you're not beating def like you're not because as much as people may like Percy's some of Percy Butler's attributes defos had success in this lead yes he's had like he he was good before he got hurt defo had success like to a point some people had they had him rated as one of the best safeties in terms of top 10 in terms of PFF or whatnot he was up there um Butler has not been Butler was rated pretty low on PFF if I remember correctly so putting that together he gotta work he gota work he's gotta work he's got he's a guy that as of right now I'm looking at is unless he has a great he's getting cut couple of preseason games he's not gonna be here and to be real with you George he I think he's could be practice squad a candidate that's how like he's not a safety that you have to work like I don't think anybody's picking up Percy Butler and saying and saying to themselves yo he's he's like he's going to be a STI no you I think you could cut Percy Butler and kind of stash him as you could stash him on the practice squad yeah that's type of that's the type of safety I I don't think anybody's dying to have Percy Butler if you watch the film on Percy Butler then I don't think you're dying to you're dying to say all right well we can make him into something special because I'll make this argument the only person I feel like that could make him special is this unit I do think this coaching staff could do it and I think if he was on the the practice squad maybe he within time he can kind of get it it's all and no this is going to sound so messed up but it's the truth I mean aky Troy AF is similar like no what I mean by no it's I'm agreeing with you though you know what I mean like you you could fall in love with the speed but you gotta have the skill set to kind of play safety the NFL that's Alla yeah that's all I'm saying like so no knock on him I think I do I I do his speed I I've met him before I think he's a great kid um and I do and I rooted for him I rooted for him but you know when you watch it and I I do want to bank on it being Rivera and and Del Rio but if we're gonna be fair and honest just just looking at the depth chart yeah it don't look good for him and then if you're comparing him and defo yeah I'm probably in terms of what I've seen in on on on the football field of competition defo has been better than Percy Butler you know I mean so absolutely absolutely so for folks out there who who are into Percy Butler it's all it's I'm GNA say the same thing like I said about Jamon it is all on Percy Butler he has he has the opportunity to prove it and speaking of prove it Saturday the commanders take off the New York Jets in their first preseason game for you George what do you want to see in this preseason game on Saturday like like what is like when you pull on the TV you're like all your ears are glued what do you want to see I am looking at specific players I I have heard all the hype around Brandon Coleman so I really want to see him because he is going to get tested the Jets are loaded in that defensive front and I think they're gonna I think they're gonna say look at this this rookie left tackle we're gonna come after him going to come after that's good good so and that's what I want to see I if we're if if this is the case said we're throwing him in the deep end and seeing if he can swim great so I'm Brandon Coleman is one I kind of just want to see what this linebacker core looks like because you've heard we've heard the hype about them too this you know the one guy said this was the best linebacker core in the NFL which you know you could have knocked me over with feather when somebody said that but of course the Jamon question yeah uh Jordan McGee who I like I want to see if I want to see him man G lie to you I want to see him I want to see him the other thing is I want to see Casmir Allen get a chance to return some kicks whether you and I are on the same wavelength on this um I at least Jameson Crowder is an upgrade over what we had last year yeah he is not saying much because what we had last year was really not much Dax the less said the better I want to see especially with this new kickoff rule I want to see if if we can create something in special teams you know there's been a lot of questions about kicker I'm kind of you know not worried about that and I'll be and I want to say this about Jaden Daniels because everybody's be that's going to be the main story like it or not yeah it is only G to be something with Jason Jaden Daniels if it's either really terrible like he has three possessions he turns it over twice and get sacked twice and then you're like what the hell or it's the other way it's so good that you're like oh my God what here he throws a 70 yard touchdown on like the first play then he gets back out there for a second series and grinds out like a 10pl 70 yard scoring Drive yeah and then we're all going to lose our mind if that happens crazy if it's not one of those two things then Jaden is not the story for me because I'm gonna expect something in between those two things and I'm not going to go crazy if there's a couple bad passes here or there or a pass gets tipped and it gets intercepted there or if he makes a great play with his legs or he makes a great play off schedule I kind of expect that at this point yeah not worried about James Jaden in tangibles because he showed me and I think he showed everybody all that during the during OTAs because that's where you're in Tangi show up it's just a question of the physical ability and I think he's shown a lot of people in Camp he has that so then it's marrying the two together so Jaden's not the big story for me it's a lot of these other things it's the it's the people who are trying to stay on this roster it's it's the people that are rookies who look like they're making impacts right away and is that going to be the case when they actually face somebody in another uniform because if that's the case you know then then this rebuilding job that Adam Peters Lance new Mark and Dan Quinn are doing may not be nearly as long or as painful as it should be right now because again we're dealing with a half a new roster and and a lot of these guys are on short-term contracts so we might be dealing with a third to a half of a new roster next year yeah that's true that's true that takes time so for me I would like to see a non three and out on the first drive so I think it goes in lines with you like it doesn't have to be all World it just has to be a non three and out like because then I'm like depending on how it lets you run the ball a lot and you just let him throw the ball once and yeah whatever but I don't I would like to if he throws the ball like two out of three three first plays and it's a three and out I don't want to see that now if he gets a first down on one passing play I don't care what the passing play is to be honest with you then I'm kind of cool with it CU I'm like all right you know get give the kids some momentum um and get some like some live reps I do want him to get Blitz I'm not going to lie to you I want him to get Blitz I want him I want him to see I want to see how he can avoid pressure I'm not into that oh he get hurt type of thing because he's playing football everybody gets hurt and get hurt playing football you can get hurt playing football just running and and pl and planning your knee bad and and tearing an ACL so that's not a like that can happen without even contact right so you can do that in practice we've seen people get hurt in practice right right George like well you and I again we're on the same I hear one more person say oh might get hurt in in a pre if you feel like he needs the Reps give him the Reps that's all I'm gonna say like if he needs reps give him the Reps like you know what he has if you feel like he's already there then all right if you feel like he's as good as most quarterbacks are then all right all I know is like uh old boy for my guy from CJ Stout he played in preseason turned out pretty well and he struggled in preseason and he struggled and everybody struggled in preas sleep a year ago about him struggled in pre season yes and look what happened but he got those reps though could you imagine no question you and the best example ever is Dak Prescott yeah he got he was the backup Romo gets hurt and he gets thrust in as a rookie and he played a lot in that preseason play a lot game one he played I want to say he played a half in both the first two games he play a lot of pre he play a lot in preas and his rookie year was one of the best rookie years the quarterback's had for a long time and then the next year he played zip zero notada pre-season snaps and he struggled I just feel like if you're a vet then it's it's different right yeah when you're a rookie I I'm just I just would like him to see a Ser three and out whatever if it's a three and out put him back in there and get some work or even three series if it's cool with that too but I'm just but I'm just doing it for modern football like modern football the first game two all right give me two series and then we we would go there like I like I watched the Chicago Bears play in the um was it the the Hall of Fame Hall of Fame game and like I know people typically don't play because it's an extra it's an extra preseason game but I would have liked to L Caleb that game because I saying to myself he's still a rookie the only reason I can think that they didn't do that is that that Turf is bad that is kind of okay well that's cool then like that's a good reason but I'm like but I hope Caleb plays at least a quarter yeah like he should play like he should play a lot like he should play save thing and I'm very high on Caleb just like I'm high on jayen like I'm high on I'm very but I'm higher on Caleb I won't lie I think Caleb is very very special um but like I would like jayen to see some work get some work you know what I mean that don't even mean and that don't mean that he has to get work with just like yeah the ones as the offensive line yes he should work with the ones as the offensive line but I wouldn't mind like if Terry comes out the game he could still work with Luke mcaffrey and dami like that's fine like the one I mean the the oine should stay and I think the old line need work other than other than cosm the old line need should be out there too well you know and you know you bring up cosmi I just had a thought because when we had candy Waller on she made that point about how Bobby wagger just completely completely knew what Cosby was up to diagnosed it and then and then put it on him are we overrating Sam cosm because the rest of the offensive linemen were so bad that they attacked the rest of them and the defenses really didn't attack Sam cosm oh no I think cosm like I think cosm's good okay I think he's good I think he's that thought I was thinking about that after Kandy Waller said that I was thinking about that for point though for a whole time I was like man I'm wondering if he was so good if look at him as being so good because everybody else was so bad we're not gonna attack him as much because he's clearly their the only reason he was so good because he didn't get manhandled by like the best interiors like he went against some dogs so he like you could attack him like the dudes the dudes all right Real Talk the dudes who were getting beat they were getting beat one-onone like they weren't even it wasn't even like attacking them with the blit like they blitzed because it's was easier but they were getting beat one-onone too like Cosby was going against some of the best tackles in the game and was was was playing him like playing them so he he's legit good he's a legit one of them but like anything like Bobby Wagner seen everything like there's like that's not a knock on him as a player that's like Ray Lewis right you got Ray Lewis out there like he can Jedi Master yeah exactly yeah exactly so it's like he's gonna find every everything like there are certain dudes that won't they won't find everything that cosm's doing but that's a good point like because I I do think that to your point George that we do overvalue a lot of positions here we do and and we've seen him go elsewhere but I think that that like just like we knew Brandon Sheriff was good at guard cosm's good at guard you know I make the argument I think cosm is our best tackle but you know I make that argument well at least at least at least Adam Peters has started out by drafting a tackle and putting him there and so far playing yeah he's not playing with it I'll say that much no I think I think it's kind of all right left like right tackle I'm cool with left tackle scares me for I ain't gonna lie because usually your left tackle I'll be honest with George your left T tackle starting it's usually a first-rounder is yeah maybe late maybe early an early first rounder if that and like you say and it is true we have been kind of spoiled around here with Chris Samuels and then yeah yeah so I'm just saying like drafted in the top 10 don't forget top 10 I'm just saying like when you say when you say some of the best tackles to to in the NFL over the last some odd years both them are like first rounders that's all I'm saying like the good on Joe Thomas retired early he was a first-rounder yes early first rounder you know what I mean like there so you gotta was was he a Tom like uh Coleman's a fourth rounder am I correct or colan's a fourth rounder that's a lot man it is but but I mean he's looked this good in Camp and then he could turn it around so this is my you want to hear something like you want to hear something this is like this is the most honest this the most honest thing to say who does he have to worry about in Camp bro H yes yes at the end like like yes at least the other years and I'm said like they used to gas they used to gas up our defense defense is trash but at least the other years those tackles those those players you hadt and young they had some guys that's true and he ain't going up against them he going against and that's all I'm saying like who is he going up against that's all that's a good point so let's let's find out now yeah that's why I'm like this is a test and then they got and then they got the next I'm trying to remember who the next down gun uh preseason game is I think I believe it's uh This Baltimore is like the last preseason oh it's Miami it's Miami bro and Miami's got some some pretty Goods theend so Jet got some dogs Miami got some dogs yeah and Baltimore's like the last preseason game always right Baltimore's like the last preseason it's just they're going to and the Baltimore is not and well Baltimore's not when that's the last BS preseason game but they're gonna bring pressure because that's what they do I throw his ass I'll throw his button there too no I would love to see him play against Baltimore because Baltimore who pretended whose fans pretended it didn't matter when they lost the preseason streak there there's going to be a little extra I think this G I'm just saying but we talked about Jaden like how many Ser how many series do you think he's G do you think he's gonna get I think he's getting I know I two or three huh I think it's could be two or three okay unless that unless that first series is like a long drive and it's just you know him going bing bing bing and it go right down the field and it's a long drive like seven eight minutes I think you give him two or three and you you and if it's two great series then get him out of there if it's two wonderful series to score on both okay there you go let him let that's enough because you know we we we do know metti is not is is got is is right up there with FedEx field with players getting hurt we got we and we do have to worry about that a little bit even if you and I that's a good point that's a good point I didn't think about that that's a very good point I would say two three I mean to me it's all predicated on success yes so if he has a good first series he scores a touchdown I'm like he's done like he could be done could be CUA I'm fair I kind want to see him get back out there because I feel like like if the if Watson takes the ball first and goes Bam Bam Bam right down the field scores Robert Salah is gonna be mad and he's gonna leave his defense out there they're gonna try to make some adjustments and I kind of want to see oh that's a good point that's a good point too I would uh because it's it's wild like the only reason why like I'll just take the one and go like I'm not trying to I'm trying to be fair when I say this because when when I saw Griffin I'm real when I saw Griffin play I was like he all right like I I wasn't impressed with Griffin in preseason but again it's the shannah hands right yeah they it's a little it's a different it's just a different mind it's a different man it's it's a genius calling plays I'm sorry I don't even like Mike like that but it's a genius and Kyle Kyle I like Kyle I like Kyle a lot but he's a genius like K he's a mad scientist right yeah I don't have that faith in cliff in in Cliff Kingsburg like that I don't think of him as a mad scientist so like I do want him to look successful in Camp I mean in uh in preseason games like I do want him to look successful so if he gets that one two because I I wouldn't feel good if he's if his pre-season isn't great but not that not because of him because I don't believe in Cliff well I would say this for Cliff yeah I'm not holding the head coaching stuff against him because I think it's clear that's not the job he was built for he was built to be an offensive coordinator or a quarterback's coach and now he's doing that well we get yeah of he doesn't have to worry about the whole team he doesn't have to worry about the Press he doesn't have to worry about this obligation or that he just can coach offense which that's what he wants to do that's what he loves to do that's why I think it could work with Cliff because he's not doing all that other stuff he's just coaching offense which is all he wants to do anyway I just like I just want to see him do it in the NFL like I know it's in college he has done it in the NFL I need you to be proven in the NFL yeah you know that's it like the other guys that I kind of wanted here they were proven because they were under a tree a successful tree and they did some work right um CJ Stout hasn't got like that that whole his his guy got him right you know what I mean so yeah I mean with you I'm with you like yeah I want to see like Cliff's GNA be a better should be a better OC than head coach because his responsibility would be but it's wild because I view yes you got to deal with the the BS as a coach I mean all the BS but also I feel like in today's NFL like when you're offensive minded dude regardless like you get you get full atomy of everything so you're still the OC you're just the OC and head coach and I just I know what you're saying like he has to now he just completely focus on being an OC right but I'm like you still call the plays though where you're at like go ahead go go back to his college at Texas Tech yeah he had these great quarterbacks and these great offenses and they were a five they were below 500 yeah because he didn't he didn't he I I don't know if it's because he didn't pick the right defensive Assistance or he just didn't give a rats rear end about recruiting defensive players but they couldn't stop anybody and they constantly lost these shootouts even though they had Patrick freaking Mahomes and they had Baker Mayfield at one time so it's just like you know I do think it matters that he's not the head coach anymore that's good point I just think that uh like yeah I it's just calling the college game is different from calling the NFL game like that's the thing like his his SK I mean his Mike Leech is the is the rest in peace Mike S is the guy who created that whole offense and coached him up when he was a player when he was a quarterback in Tex um so it's just like how do you get that into into the end and like the spread I mean Mike Lee is one the founders of what some of these offenses in today's NFL are are running um but we have to see how Kingsbury calls a play in the NFL because to me his track this is his track record regardless of position right the first seven games he's pretty good yep he is he's pretty good at calling plays the rest is when defenses catch up yeah so that tells me something so that tells me something like and I don't know you don't adjust and that's not a thing of to me that's not a thing of you're doing too much that's a thing that you're not good at adjustments when the defense totally figures you out your counter game isn't real like you know what I mean George like your counter game so hopefully like that's the one thing about having all these guys on the staff too these offensive minded guys like you got Lynn you have Brian Johnson these other guys who have been OC's elsewhere they can probably help him I think with that a little bit because I do think he gets there he does get to a point where people start to get his Tendencies down you know what I mean so hopefully it works because I do think like he is so he is so pre Jayden Daniel's success is so that him and the offensive line is so predicated on Su the predicated on success of the play caller and the o line that's what because because he's not at this point where he's going to make he's going to save you save you from that you know what I mean he can't save you from that those guys got to help him out so he could be successful um but also for you George you know because the pre this preas preseason game has a lot of pressure for a lot of different people who do you feel has like the most pressure going into this preseason game which player say coach this this was a this is a hard question to answer because you made such good points about like d dami Brown is you know not in as much trouble as people say and some of these other guys aren't because because honestly before you made that point I would have said D dami brown but but taking into account what you said now I'm not sure it's him I kind of Wonder and I'm not saying he's gonna get cut or anything but I wonder if it's Manel fores I wonder if he's really got that if he doesn't really play well in these first couple games that he's going to be S sitting on the end of the bench they're not going to cut him because he's first round pick and and you don't want to take that cap hit unless you just unless he's such a terrible person that you just throw up your hands and you say you have enough and he's not that guy you know he's just somebody that that that that's struggling right now because of size and the way he's used I but I kind of feel like I already feel like the clock's ticking on Emanuel Forbes because that's how bad last year was and even if it wasn't all his fault and even if we blame the coaching staff which we should you know kind of looking at him going is this guy really got the physical profile to play this position in the NFL because that's the thing I was left with last year is like how is he GNA play in the NFL when these wide receivers are huge and when the rules you know when the rules don't let you do anything to try to cover receivers anymore yeah I think he has pressure but I do think he's up for the task um I I think Jamon has pressure as much as I like jam Jamon has pressure um I think Jamon has to show the growth right like he's learning a whole different not position because he still get to play linebacker but you know what I mean another skill set uh be able to rush the passor as well so that he's he he's hasn't to learn how to rush the passor with Ryan carrian so I think that it's essential to him to show progress against in in this preseason game because if Jamon goes out there and gets a couple gets a sack then then he's feeling good the staff is feeling good the fan base is feeling good to now they're thinking you know it's like anything you'll say to yourself like Dallas had Mah Parsons they'll probably fans will probably think uh oh jam about to be a least like Micah not to say he gonna be Micah but you know what I mean right yeah um so I do think that you know Jamon has pressure um if I had the most pressure I think dami I think who really has the most pressure h you know what I think it's easy for me to say Jamon I I want to say Jamon but I'm gonna go a different route I'm G mention somebody I think Percy Butler has the most pressure um and I think somebody you mentioned but I think he has the most pressure because what we we talked about before um he's a guy that started last year which is there he started uh but he's deep he's back in the depth chart as we saw like he's back least Jamon is backing up um so he's in competition right with um Fowler like we can't even tell you like who is Percy Butler in competition he's third string so he has to jump a few people to get to get on this roster right so I think it's a lot of pressure for him to Showcase his physical skill set because he does have a lot of amazing he does have an amazing physical skill set you know what I mean but from a starter to now making this team there's a lot of pressure on him like there's a lot of pressure on him um offensively speaking I think um wey has a lot of pressure on him like Wy has a lot of pressure on him like a lot of people are like obviously in terms of public opinion A lot of people over him right they're over Wy yeah me too I'm over w i mean so like there's a lot of pressure on him to be successful at blocking right like pass protection because it's essential it's essential for him to for this for this for this unit like right like I don't we're looking at it like right now like he's a starting right tackle but could could Cornelius Lucas bump over the right tackle um I'm not gonna say Trent Scott could but could I could see if Brandon if Brandon Coleman does such a great job in left tackle could you see col cornelus Lucas competing with um with Wy I can well let's face it wy's position should be under a lot more threat but as as everyone knows given all the issues Washington had last year he couldn't fix everything in one off season so W's probably all right because yeah definitely like you say look what's behind him Scot they're just not expiring there's nobody that I've heard about in Camp that that has people saying oh man Andrew Wy might not start even though Andrew Wy was certifiably bad last year so I I think and he hasn't been George he hasn't been good in Camp either I've heard that I've heard a lot he hasn't been good but you're right though no one says that this person is gonna take his job but he had Brandon Coleman to to a point Brandon Coleman was playing right tackle he was playing right tackle in Camp but he has but to but to your point but he I'm say this he hasn't been good in Camp either though no and and and look I think we all know that that'll be a priority next next either next draft free agency or hopefully more likely next draft yeah and that's fine because I think we all knew this was going to be a process and this was going to take two or three years I mean I said it it was GNA take three years to get the offensive line you want and the depth you want and you're GNA mostly do it through the draft which means you know we're in year one so yes that means we gota we might have to put up with Andrew wy's nonsense another year MH oh well you like you can't you can't wave a magic wand and fix everything when everything needs to be fixed which is where we're at I mean there were so few things there were so few things that that on this on this house that didn't need to be knocked down and started over you know you're just gonna have to live with it and I what I what I'm gonna hope is that Cliff Kingsbury knows that and tries to scheme his way around it as best he can all right what what from this preseason game would have you feeling like like you're like would give you a bad feeling going to the season if the preas what would have like what needs what would like for you what would give you bad vibes going to the season from this from this preseason game it would be one of two things it would be this offensive line being so terrible that we can't evaluate Jaden okay because that's again we're all we're all of I think of a similar mind on Jaden Daniels we're all excited about him yeah of course yeah we do have to understand that we may have an offensive line that's terrible enough that we really can't evaluate him and and and really look at how he's playing because we're sitting there going he goes one two he go he gets the ball turns around and there's a guy in his face that's a problem the other thing I hate to say I even mention it but we have to say it because this is the way it's been in Washington if somebody that we're counting on gets hurt and gets a serious injury we're all going to be going oh God here we go again because we've had so many seasons like that where we've had so many people get hurt and I just I would just like to see us get through a preseason and a training camp without a serious injury because it feels like that just doesn't happen it just it feels like it hasn't happened for years now some of that is that we didn't weren't staffed properly in terms of that end of the of the you know the is the issue with the guy that got raid by the DEA and all that other stuff the trainers we had these trainers who were weren very good at their jobs and I'm hoping that's fixed under Adam Peters and Josh Harris and everybody but those are the two things this offensive line is just so awful that we're we like well you have to give Jaden Daniels an incomplete or somebody somebody important gets hurt and then we're gonna be like here we go again yeah I agree with you I think that is the thing I think that uh injuries um and just if jayen D is not accurate would bother me I all lie I kind of expect to be bad I'm not going to lie to I won't lie to you expectations are low for offensive line I want them to be a c minus or a d plus okay that'd be great like I do think I do let me be honest like let me be real like I do think it'd be better than last year but that's not saying a lot right that's fair right it's not no that's it's a low bar but that is that's where we're where we're at but but I expect us to do a lot of quick game but that's I I think that's where I'm with with like Kingsbury it's like quick quick game goes but so far if defenses know you have a battle line right they're just gonna play you they're gonna play they're gonna play you tight and they're gonna take away your quick game but you now you don't have enough time to get the ball you know towards the you know you don't got enough time to get the ball you know over the top I don't care if you got a mobile quarterback or what not everything like I've said this before like you can be like jayen is super fast that's great that's cool um but defenses are fast two nowadays linebackers are running four three well I mean Jaden's super fast but he's not potential Olympic Athlete fast like yeah exactly could made the Olympics if he wanted to yeah like and that's 43 and and again and Robert Griffin with that speed at times got caught like on going side I'm just saying like it's it's different that's all I'm saying so like this offensive line has to be good has to be good enough and in mentioning Griffin in 2012 like it wasn't that like you had you had Trent you already had one of the best dudes period so you had somebody you had somebody to Anchor but it wasn't but what was good about with Wasington did was they helped mask like the other individuals who weren't great offensive lineman like they did a lot like Zone blocking and things of that sort that's what made Shanahan so so awesome like he didn't have to have like the all other he needed he always needed a tackle he need that special tackle which Trent was right but he didn't need the spe the special individual on the other side like he didn't need them as much so it helped his offense right it helped his off like like he know how to m not help his offense he masked like everything else which made his offense still Dynamic even with Griffin getting time in the pocket at times because you know the play action game people had to worry about that so he just knew how to design offense like I don't know if Kingsbury is able to do that like playing off with the quick game because it's GNA be lot of quick game if you watch Texas Tech like you know what kind of offense it's probably going to be like yeah bubble screens like some deep ends but you need time do deep ends uh lot lot running back lot of throw running back some screens screen game quick Slants you know what it's going to be like right it's basically getting the ball out quick that's the game plan so people are going to play him tight and with pressure and play him tight now the Kings bird counter that to make life easy for for for uh Jaden that's all I'm saying like and Jaden gets the ball out quick but it's different between getting the ball out quick and seeing seeing it seeing it quick right you can get the ball out quick but you got to see it quick like what I mean by seeing where the defenses are at quick and like I know they're gonna make his life easy by throw and they're gonna run some obviously some read option stuff with him because he's got you gota utilize his legs um but yeah that's the thing we're going to get to see it all but that's my thing my thing I would feel bad Jaden's not like for me not accurate that would be my thing um everything else I don't because I don't I don't expect like I'm not gonna put no blame on him because that's that's out of his control like a bad offense line is out of his out of his control that's something like I'm looking at that o line and I'm like H dang it's this is horrible like I'm looking like also strongberg not getting an opportunity like I'm like this dude was this dude was rated one of the best in college was probably the best I think he was the best lineman in the SEC um he had the best that award and he's like third string I think like it's not a backup center yeah and and remember the center we've got is kind of injury-prone so there's a very good gonna get in there he's not even that yeah yeah I'm thinking like I I I think he's actually another and that's another recent draft pick that we're wondering about yeah I actually think he's good and it's wild I think think I think he's is is good I think he could be good but not the opportunity but this this staff bro he is third string as a center and and guard like Michael deer starts over him yeah this is yeah so it we will see I'm excited to see a lot but I I do want to see strongberg play too I do I kind of want to see him I'm I've been interested in strongberg he got hurt last year so I've been interested I've been interested in strongberg but yeah this is like so so do you expect us to win do you care about the wins and losses in this preseason game George I I care a little because you know what what what you want to see is you want to see the third stringers being enthusiastic and play enthusiastic in playing to win you kind of want to see the coaches playing to win and you know what I always liked honestly and I know it's kind of silly the I loved it when the starters were like cheering like crazy for the backups to win like you know your te everybody on that field when they played the Ravens last year they want to win that game so badly look at the way the side line reacted when that kick went through look at the way the fans reacted it meant something and I know that the season didn't ultimately ended crap and all that but it really did mean something and I really do think you can build something in preseason yeah I know Joe Gibbs every time they won the Super Bowl they he didn't care Joe didn't care Joe did not care Joe didn't care but again he had he had great teams at the start and he had this so it didn't matter he had yeah well exactly so that's different thing we're trying to build something here and and I do kind of I care a little I care a little and I especially care if it comes down to a kick because these kickers hav't been too hot cap so I'd like to see a kicker step up and make a kick to win game that's what I want to see I want to be a close game I want to see kicker I want to see the starting kick in that pressure and I want to be a 50 yard kick too yes I want to be a 50 kick I do I I agree a George I agree with that point well it's time to Let's close this show out man
