[Music] when folks start getting up there in age many choose to slow down and settle down in the Sunshine State at 26 years old Miami's cam McCormick is one of the oldest active players in college football but he isn't ready for the scooter and shuffle board life just yet I know that's might be funny to some I'm older for college football but there's a reason for that my body's been through a lot cam started playing football when he was 8 years old he and his mom Debbie settled in Bend Oregon where Cam was a highly recruited tight end I felt like I was always watching University of Oregon I knew like hey this is where I want to go I had committed right before my senior season played in the first game and then I tore my ACL that following week in practice that injury forced cam to red shirt the 2016 season but he was healthy the entire 2017 season throw to the four and C mic scores and hoping to build on that success in 2018 is that supposed to be you know a big breakout year for myself come to the first game we find out that I'm I'm starting that game I was blocking on on the outside the edge and I felt something like fall on the back of my leg leg come to find out I had tore a ligament in my ankle and broke my fibula while rehabbing cam suffered a setback that required another surgery costing him the 2019 season then during fall camp in 2020 a nagging pain in his foot placed him at a Crossroads I remember sitting outside of the facility and I was on the phone with my mom like I think I'm ready to to quit football like I'm ready to be done I said this is your decision I can't make this decision for you but we have to be able to figure this out a second opinion provided a faster path Back to Football if he opted for another surgery that's when my mindset switched to like hey I can do this I've already done it for you know three years at this point when the Ducks 2021 season rolled around cam was healthy and ready but in the second game of the season facing third and long I catch a a corner route tried to run I got hit from behind and I stand up and and something fell off immediately you got a duck down after the play cam mccor yeah who made the catch B cam had torn his right Achilles ending yet another season and I was just like no no no he called me from inside the tent and he was so happy I was like Mom Mom it's okay it's okay I I'm going to be okay he's like I got the first down and I was like know I I know honey I'm so proud of you you and um he was so happy that he was out on the field and he made an important play after everything he had been through that point I had just got a little bit of taste of playing football again that I was like I can do it again like whatever it is all that mean let me keep [Applause] going in his seven years in you je cam had four season-ending surgeries and played in just 29 games in 2023 he transferred to Miami where he played the entire season and this January was granted another year of Eligibility making this season his ninth and Final in college football downfield gets it complet and he goes to cam mcor the big tight end old man can a lot of people you know make those jokes like ninth year blah blah blah but it's like a lot of people couldn't step in my shoes and go through all the injuries and then still be standing here on my ninth year smiling
