WOMEN. WE WILL HAVE ALL OF THE HIGHLIGHTS. >>> WE BEGIN WITH FRANCINE. PARTS OF LOUISIANA ARE UNDERWATER AND NEARLY 400,000 PEOPLE ARE IN THE DARK THIS MORNING, AFTER THE STORM SLAMMED INTO THE STATE, AS A CATEGORY TWO HURRICANE LAST NIGHT. YOU CAN SEE IN THIS VIDEO, THE STORM SURGE, PUSHING WATER SEVERAL FEET HIGH INTO STREETS AND BUILDINGS. COASTAL COMMUNITIES ALONG THE GULF COAST COMING INCLUDING NEW ORLEANS ARE MOST IMPACTED. FRANCINE WEEKEND INTO A TROPICAL STORM LAST NIGHT AND IT WILL CONTINUE TO WEEKEND NORTH INTO MISSISSIPPI BUT WILL STILL POTENTIALLY BRING RECORD FLOODING A POSSIBLE TORNADO THREAT TO THE REGION. CBS NEWS CORRESPONDENT, JANET SHAMLIAN, IS JOINING US NOW FROM GOLF COURT, MISSISSIPPI, AND JANET, THE VIDEO WE WERE SEEING OF THAT STORM SURGE, JUST INCREDIBLE ENGULFED COURT, RECORD RAINFALL WEDNESDAY, BUT WHAT ARE THE CURRENT CONDITIONS? >> LINDSEY, GOOD MORNING. FROM GULFPORT, GOOD TO BE WITH YOU, YES, A ONE-DAY RECORD FOR RAINFALL HERE YESTERDAY, MORE THAN FOUR INCHES, THAT BREAKS A RECORD-SETTING 1994 AT 2.9 INCHES. SO, WE GOT A LOT OF RAIN YESTERDAY, WE SAW THOSE WINDS, BUT THIS STORM MOVED OUT OF THIS AREA QUITE QUICKLY. LET ME SHOW YOU, AND WE ARE AT THE GULFPORT MARINA RIGHT NOW. PEOPLE ARE TIGHTENING UP THEIR VOTES, AND WE SAW A LOT OF PEOPLE HERE YESTERDAY, RATHER, TIDYING UP THEIR BOATS, AND IT IS NOT A BEAUTIFUL BEACH DAY, BUT AGAIN, THIS MOVED OUT PRETTY QUICKLY AND YOU CAN SEE IT DOESN'T LOOK TOO BADLY HERE. IT IS NOW PUSHING INTO NORTHERN MISSISSIPPI, PLACES LIKE JACKSON, WHERE THE CITY GOVERNMENT HAS SHUT DOWN SOME SERVICES, THERE IS A UNIVERSITY THAT HAS CANCELED CLASSES IN OTHER SCHOOLS THAT HAVE CANCELED CLASSES TODAY. WE WERE ON THE DIRTY SIDE OF THIS, BUT HERE IN GOLD PORT, A LITTLE BIT FAR WEST TO SEE THE DRAMATIC IMPACT THAT THEY SAW, LINDSEY, IN THE LOUISIANA AREA. >> WHAT ARE SOME OF THE LINGERING THREATS OF THIS STORM SYSTEM? >> YEAH, SO, IT IS A CONCERN RIGHT NOW, BECAUSE A LOT OF PEOPLE COME HERE FOR THE BEACH, RIP CURRENTS, THAT WILL CONTINUE TO BE AN ISSUE, NOT JUST TODAY, HERE IN MISSISSIPPI, BUT THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS IN LOUISIANA AS WELL. AND THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR MORE RAIN, SO WE ARE WATCHING OUT FOR THAT, BUT FOR THE MOST PART IT HAS MOVED OUT, BUT THOSE RIP CURRENTS ARE WHAT THEY ARE WARNING PEOPLE ABOUT HERE IN GULFPORT. >> AND THEY ARE VERY DANGEROUS. JANET, ACCORDING TO THE TRACKING SIDE, POWER OUTAGE.U.S., MORE THAN 50,000 PEOPLE ARE WITHOUT POWER IN MISSISSIPPI.
