NFL GameDay | "Call was declined?" - Brooks on CeeDee Lamb contract negotiations dismissed again

Insider Tom pisero uh as the Cowboys begin to get their roster down to 53 ahead of the Tuesday cut down day one big piece of that roster still very much uncertain that the status of cidi lamb where do we stand there Tom all R CD lamb remains a hold out as he has been throughout the course of training camp but I do sense there is some optimism in Dallas that that could be coming time now is of the essence the regular season begins two weeks from today against the Cleveland Browns you're going to need to get cidd lamb out onto the field if he's going to be ready to roll in week one so a critical couple of days here r as the Cowboys and SD lamb try to finally reach an accord and last we heard Cowboys owner Jerry Jones talk on the record about CD lamb essentially said it takes two to tango in these contract negotiation so we'll see where that ultimately ends up Tom pel uh there with us thank you very much Tom now the Cowboys no stranger to Stars holding out you might remember em Smith back in 1993 Cowboys went 0 and2 in his absence he comes back they go to win Super Bowl 28 so all we got to do that's remember Ezekiel Elliott held out all of training camp in preseason a couple years back ended up finally signing back on September 4th before week one of the regular season so let's see Troy that's uh it's not t uh what is it Troy once headline exp old takes exposed something like that on that one troy they went 0 and2 without EMT and then ultimately ended up winning Super Bowl 28 so there is still hope out there even if CD does Miss a little regular season time uh Baldi what's your what's your take on how this ultimately comes together for this cowboys offense that desperately needs that star power I think everybody in Dallas including the owner knows that they need CD lamb in the lineup and sometimes you know it happens in the 11th Hour sometimes you just got to play the game because honestly the only Leverage D lamb has Bucky is to withhold his Services I mean that especially when you're under contract and he's outplayed the contract he has started every game over the last two seasons and his game just keeps being elevated they've addressed the offense line the line should be good I think these two rookies BB and G are going to be good players um right now they need him in the lineup for this offense uh to have a chance to go and win another 12 game season get to the playoffs yeah they have to have him because when you look at their offense you have Jake Ferguson at tight end uh you have Brandon Cooks who's a solid receiver but you don't have a game changer CD lamb is a game changer on that offense and without like I would say avantage or class zekia ellot that can Pace You by running the football yeah Dak Prescott needs to have his number one receiver at some point they got to get this deal done feel like we'll see a lot of Ferguson uh getting targeted if espe if lamb is in the building yes he will get targeted one thing about CD though in addition though is that guy gives this team such toughness like there sometimes wide receivers what they do over the middle of the field that guy is fearless in the middle of the field yeah U no no question his impact when he is out there those fans wanted to win come on uh all right guys so understanding the situations now that the 49ers are dealing with remember it is not just Brandon auk not on the field Trent Williams is still not there I haven't talked about that a whole lot Christian mcaffrey you know still dealing with the calf situation um Baldi what will this 49ers offense look like well look if they're all there it's a stacked roster but if you're minus Trent Williams if you're minus iuk and whatever condition mcaffrey comes back in I mean those are three of your biggest stars I think it really starts honestly with Trent Williams getting him him at some point and he's such a differen maker but in pecking order like you got to get Trent they Trent saw pan su he saw Christian darol he saw all these guys get paid Trent's the best he's maybe the best football player in the league he's certainly the best offensive lineman in this league and he just wants uh you know be rewarded and compensated for that well here here here's a bigger theme when it comes to trim Williams wanting his money Brandon auk wants his money Chris mcaffrey got his money and there are others that want to get paid Pat Riley used to say this when he was coaching it's the disease of me when you have a lot of success everyone feels like they played a bigger part in the making it happen and so now they want to be compensated and we begin to lose focus on what allowed this team to get to the Super Bowl and so as the clock is ticking and we're getting close close to the regular season not having those guys there to me is problematic because this team is certainly talented enough to make another run at a Super Bowl but I just worry about all of the individual agendas taken away from the collective focus on Super Bowl hangover Bucky are you that what you're saying yeah Super Bowl hangover like we have an issue but they didn't they didn't win it they got to it though it happens all the time the team that doesn't win it they have a tough time getting back that's right well look they got an extra day to figure it out right they don't play till Monday that's right right September 9th as they host the New York Jets but what those that team looks like on that Monday still very much uncertain at this point uh okay we are getting you ready for Saints and Titans and getting you ready that last preseason game just to make sure those coaches uh gave you every opportunity I mean look it's the Super Bowl for some of these bubble guys you'll see a different level of energy and enthusiasm your team or someone else's by the time cut down day arrives on Tuesday will Levis well not worried about a roster spot but worried about turning this Titans franchise around nine starts last year won just three of them but was not afraid to push the ball down the field as you can see in that League leading air yards per attempt just over 10 yards a pop down there so let's talk about will Levis here fellas does he feel like Bucky Brooks the franchise quarterback that's ready to run this offense for Brian Callan and the Titans well he feels like the franchise quarterback because they want him to be the franchise quarterback and everything that they've done is with Will Levis in mind on offense you bring Feld 11 plays touchdown it's kind of what you want to see to end Camp well especially after not seeing him at all in the first two games what are they waiting for are we going to see Bryce young we need to see some of that progress and man that was what you really that was the positivity you wanted to come from that outing all right so how does Bryce young and Company find success this year with Dave Canal Buck well I think they continue to build his confidence and as he becomes a more confidence player this offense will have an opportunity to improve significantly the thing that they did they added veterans on the outside Deontay Johnson team with Adam Thiel to give them two guys that he can rely on in the passing game Xavier Legette coming over as a top pick give him to be a big fast physical playmaker that can really do every throw went to thieling and it's fine I mean he he he was up to the task between Bryce and Deontay I'm just telling you like as a Carolina kid Xavier liette like the smile the accent and obviously the athletic ability the explosiveness if he goes off he's going to be a star Carolina he's going to be interview number one no no doubt love his appreciation for this game and the passion that he has for it can't wait to see preseason R still no new contract done for Jamar Chase but for the first time since training camp began I am told Jamar Chase releasing wide receiver Denzel Mims former second round pick of the Jets he spent time with several different teams over the past couple of years still only 26 years old but once again now looking for a new home right yeah in a pretty crowded wide receiver room there in Jacksonville so we'll see if Denzel mems finds a new home shortly thank you very of the AFC Championship game in these two incredible quarterbacks now momes and the Chiefs have had the edge in their head-to-head matchups right four to one including this last year's AFC Championship look at Mahomes has been surgical in those games just surgical almost 73% completion in those games against a really good Ravens defense in just about every one of those games here so let's start Baldi with the most intriguing piece of this matchup for you I think it's uh what the Ravens are going to do on defense right now honestly there's two things like replacing Mike McDonald the number one defensive football led to league in sacks all because you talked about those numbers that were on the screen 4- one talk about averaging 350 plus yards and the last two defensive coordinators for the Baltimore Ravens wink Mart Mike McDonald getting that game prep ready for the Kansas City Chiefs but unfortunately they are doing it all with some real heavy hearts uh here today we do have some sad news to pass along for Baltimore Ravens offensive line coach Joe dallis spring in once again NFL Network Insider Tom peliso Tom uh what went into this call was a pretty heated battle between white and Thompson read it really boiled down to Skylar Thompson won that number two job behind Tua Tonga vioa based on what he did through the course of training camp and the preseason obviously Mike White has played a lot of football in the league he had a pretty good run there with the Jets but at this point the Dolphins just felt more comfortable with Skyler Thompson has a little bit of experience there in Miami Tom thanks very much for that Insight Jaguars do go bigger and get back to where they were 2022 and then try to take it a step further so what will be the key for the Jags to find that success this year Back to Basics Back to Basics for the Jaguars particularly offensively go back to what worked well in 2022 and in 2022 Doug Peterson's first season look it was by commited when he came to the offense they would just throw the ball to the open guy they brought in two guys that would really help him in Gabe Davis and Brian Thomas Jr and what they do is they add a open up yeah and and you know again keeping Travis etana the mix as well on the ground right and then finding a way to distribute man it just feels like there's going to be so many options and ways and answers for this Jaguars team to attack defenses yeah it it is all about like the offense and making sure Trevor Lawrence gets going after the big cont Corner Ryan neelson right I mean I think you he wants that front four to get after you that's what it's based upon he was a former you know defensive line player and Coach himself but I think these two guys when I go out to practice Bucky they're the first ones on the field they got a serious attitude about the season and the approach to the game and I think they're going to
