Sports Gambling 101 - Answering All Your Questions

[Music] what's up everyone welcome in it's been two weeks thanks for coming in going to let some people join this is going to be a little different tonight because this is going to be centered around Sports gambling and with the football season coming up even though we had four college games this past Saturday this upcoming week First full slated of college games and then the following week we've got the NFL season and obviously there are people out there that with gambling legal in 38 out of 50 states people want to know how do I go about doing this not that I'm going to advocate for betting your mortgage on games I'm not even going to be giving you any sort of picks I'm just going to be explaining to you for people that don't know that are people that are interested exactly how and what it means when you're looking at whether it's online or at a casino when you're looking at lines money lines parlays all this stuff teasers what what exactly does it mean we will have photos to go along with it again thank you all uh for coming in if you want to uh donate in any way to this podcast and to this live stream everything is down there for you below and we're not going to really have any bachelor related news tonight nothing in regards to Golden Bachelorette I think that's coming on Tuesday so I did want to just kind of get that out of the way I know maybe some people thought I would have some Bachelor stuff tonight don't really yes I'm very well aware of the Caitlyn interview on the BET's podcast that will be part and mostly covered on my daily Roundup tomorrow I know a lot of you had a lot of thoughts on this as do I I'm not looking to cancel anybody I'm not looking to call people out call people names and whatnot but it will be discussed so don't think that uh it won't be if you do have any questions as well throw them into the comments and we'll go from there as well because we do have some people that have said they were going to come on I'm trusting that they are going to come on three people that had reached out to me and said yeah I'd love to come on the podcast Sunday night because I got some questions so that'll be about 15 or 20 minutes into this podcast if you do have gaming related questions after I start my tutorial here by all means um let me uh put it in the comment section in the chat and I will go over it already see um a couple in there um one of them I'll get to right now will this help me with fantasy football at all no it will not yeah because fantasy is um there are so many people out there on the internet that do fantasy and give fantasy advice I'm not a fantasy guy I just use their info and draft whatever team I can plus there's two different trains of thought when it comes to Fantasy Football there is just a snake draft where you just pick a draft order if there's 10 people in your pool whoever gets the first pick and then the 10th pick and it just goes in a snake order one two three four five six seven eight nine 10 and then if you have the 10th pick you also have the 11th pick and then it goes back around and so there's that type of fantasy football and then there's the fantasy football that I do where everyone in the league is given in our league there's 10 teams and everyone's given fake money and you can bid on players so it doesn't really matter where you draft you have the ability to actually build a roster versus a snake draft which I think is Antiquated and if you're in a snake draft you should tell your commissioner can we do an auction draft because they're so much better and they're so much more interesting because face it if you have the fifth pick in a 10 team draft there are four guys that you have no chance of getting because everyone pretty much knows who the top guys in the draft are so that's just my um just my thoughts on that um I am getting text here so uh sorry okay I I want to get started real quick and I wanted to immediately and like I said when we bring people on I'm after I start talking about some of this stuff I will be also you know looking at the chat to make sure and I'm going to go as slow as I can because this is stuff obviously that I know and I am very knowledgeable about but I understand if you are coming here to learn something about it I might need to explain it to you as simple as I can and while I know it maybe I'm not the greatest at explaining it but I will try my best to go slow and to explain it as much as I can so we're gonna start out with something as easy as this let's do uh let's do this one and this is just we'll go here okay what you're looking at is the first three games for week one of the NFL season usually they're done in some sort of rotation order now the first two games are the first two games in order here because the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs is the first game on Thursday night on Friday night you've got the Packers and the Eagles so we let's discuss this right now you see the Thursday night football game between the Baltimore Ravens is Kansas City Chiefs Kansas City Chiefs are minus three see that right here minus three means they are 3o favorites now I took this screenshot three or four days ago the line is still the same but the number behind it probably has changed a little bit they are minus three with an the Ravens are going to be plus three if you want to bet the Kansas City Chiefs and you say I want to bet the Kansas City Chiefs on the point spread the line is three which means to win your bet the Kansas City Chiefs would have to win the game by four or more because they are minus three if they win the game exactly by three points then you push so let's and I'm going to be speaking here in $100 bets because it's very it's a lot easier to understand $100 bets but whatever you put on the Kansas City Chiefs to win and cover the spread this is called the spread the line the favorite those are the probably the biggest the most terms used for this you go up to a window in Las Vegas and say I want to bet the Kansas City Chiefs minus three they would say well for how much so let's just say $100 you want to win a $100 see what this 101 is here that means you have to give them $101 to win a 100 normally on spreads you'll see like on Packers and Eagles down here normally it's 110 because that is called The Vig or the juice and what that means is that's the fee that Vegas takes for taking your bet that's what they charge you they charge you basically 10% now sometimes it's not 110 it's minus 101 for the Chiefs so you would have to give them here here's $11 I want the Kansas City Chiefs minus three so you'd give them $11 and they'd give you a ticket back that says on it KC minus three 100 to win 2011 because if the Chiefs win by four or more you win your bet so you win back the 101 that you gave them plus you won $100 so you'd get two01 in return so you'd be plus a 100 bucks now let's go to the other side the Baltimore Ravens let's say you wanted to bet the Ravens you say I want the Ravens plus three well this means two things if the Ravens win the game outright they beat the Kansas City Chiefs you win your bet because they are threo underdogs right here if the Kansas City Chiefs win by one point or two points you win your bet because the Ravens are plus three so basically what you do is at the end of the game whatever the final score is whatever team you have if you have the chiefs look at the score and if the Chiefs won by three or more you win your bet if the Ravens win the game or lose the game by one or two points you win your bet now with the Ravens if you were to go up to the window and sayi want the Ravens plus three remember how I said you have to give them $11 to bet the Kansas City Chiefs minus three you would have to give them $119 to win a 10000 that's what this 119 means so they would hand you a ticket the ticket would say Baltimore plus three 29 or um yeah 219 to win uh wait hand them 119 219 to win 200 um 200 yeah 2011 to win 2011 to win 100 yeah 29 to win well you would get you would get $219 back because you gave them 119 and then if the Ravens win the game outright or lose by one or two because you're adding three points on to the final score that's what I mean so you would be getting it would say 119 to win 2 119 to win what the ticket says you know what I'm saying you're giving them 119 and they come back to you if the Ravens win the game or lose by one or two points they will give you 219 in return so you won $100 because you said I want to bet the Ravens to 100 these are all B B off of $100 bets now if you went down to $10 let's just say you wanted to do a $10 bet it's the same thing you would just give them $19 and you would win 29 back you're 19 plus the $10 you won if the Baltimore Ravens won the game I hope I explained that well I think I did does that make sense bet 119 to 100 Ryan thank you I don't know why I couldn't figure that out you're betting 119 to win 100 but you're going to get 219 back if you win your bet you get back the money that you gave Vegas plus you won your bet so they're giving you the 119 plus the 100 back so there you go now let's go to the over under this is very simple the points scored in this game all you're doing is betting over 46 or under 46 you are basically saying I think there's going to be more than 46 points combined you would bet the over you are saying I think there's going to be less than 46 points combined you are betting the under and it's the same thing over unders are usually have the same vigorish right there 110 it's very rarely juice because they'll just move the line to 40 if if a lot of money is coming in on the over they'll just move it up to 46 and a half because so much money is coming in on one way they will just start moving the line but for this purpose they're saying 46 is the total on the game and you just think there will be more than 46 points scored or less than 46 points scored same thing you would go to the window and say I want the Ravens Chiefs over 46 points you would give them $110 to win 100 you would just give them 110 if it 47 or more points scored in the game you win $210 back the 110 you gave them and the 100 you won on your bet if you lose if you bet the over and there are 45 points or less scored in the game that means you lost so you had given them 110 to give for for them to give you a ticket right well then you just get nothing in return you lost your bet so you lost $110 so over unders are very very simple it's just over or under this number that they give you right here how's that got it lesle gets it um now if it is a tie you get your money back in Vegas so whatever you give them on your bet let's just say you wanted $100 on the Ravens Chiefs over and the Chiefs and the final score of the game doesn't matter who wins and the and the final score of the game is 36 to10 well it landed right on this number of 46 you would go to the window give them their ticket and you would get your $110 back so you didn't lose anything but you didn't win anything but you did get your money back because it was a push it was a tie now now let's go to the money line on this game the money line is basically just saying eliminate the point spread but since the point spread is basically saying the Chiefs are favored now you can sit here and say it means the Chiefs are expected to win not necessarily the point spread is just a number that Vegas puts out to try and get betting on both sides they want ultimately what does Vegas want let's just say obviously they're they're dealing in the millions of dollars but let's just say with all the bets that come in at the window ,000 is on the Ravens and ,000 is on the Chiefs that's exactly what Vegas wants because they're gonna pay out everybody who wins no matter who wins the game but the other side lost and they win all this vigorish all this juice whatever you want to call it ultimately that's what they get so that's what they're looking for the money line here is the Chiefs minus 151 now you're basically saying I just want the Chiefs to win the game I don't want to deal with point spreads I don't want to deal with them having to win by three great you can just bet them to win the game and that's this number but because they were favored to win the game they're not just going to let you bet the Chiefs because they were favored by three points meaning they have to win by four or more for you to win bet if they're if you're just going to say I just want them to win the game well then you're going to have to pay a little bit more of a premium you're going to have to give them $151 to win 100 so it'll be 151 to win 100 and if you win your bet if the Chiefs win the game you win $251 back your1 that you gave them and the $100 you won because the Chiefs won the game now with the Ravens because you're not allowed you're not taking those three points points that they're giving you you're just saying I think the Ravens are going to win the game okay give them if there's a plus here see if there's a minus you have to give them $151 to win 100 on plus $100 wins you 131 so it's 100 to win 131 if you bet the Ravens money line and the Ravens beat the Chiefs you will get your $100 back plus you won your bet of13 1 so you'll get another 131 you'll get 231 because they are an underdog doesn't mean they're not it doesn't mean they're not expected to win because plenty of underdogs win games and in the NFL if you've listen to my sports podcast enough you know underdogs win outright a lot of the time in the NFL so that's the biggest explanation and the easiest explanation for just lines on the game same thing Friday game this year is the Packers and the Eagles the Eagles are one and a half Point favorites that means they have to win by two or more because if they win 20 to 19 and you bet the Eagles minus one and a half you lose because they didn't cover the spread minus one and a half means you have to win by two or more now on a when there's a half Point involved obviously there can never be a push or a tie because there's no half points in football it's just you win by one you win by two you win by three you win by four five six seven eight whatever it is this means that the Eagles would have to win by two or more for you to win your bet if you bet the Packers plus one and a half you're getting one and a half points so the Packers could technically still lose the game outright and you win your bet but they would have to only there's only you have a room for a onepoint margin of error here they would have to lose exactly by one for you to win your bet and them to lose the game or they could win the game outright so anything here go Pat go everyone's uh throwing throwing in their uh thoughts so um we're gonna get to our uh first our first caller here not even a call not a caller our first guest coming on uh her name is Robin spring her on Robin hey Steve how you doing good um why am I not oh sorry hold on a second need to uh there we go you got me I can hear you okay so Robin why don't you uh why don't you tell me your question from there yeah I I have a couple questions so I I love gambling I love sports but you've done a good uh tutorial in the beginning explaining the money line the spreads yeah how far in would you go on parlays like for instance say it's baseball like Toronto girl here Blue Jays would you go deep into guessing scores in the Innings like if you're just starting this out or is that a big crop shoot or that's that's what those are called are prop bets and those are very it's fun to do but they're very hard because there's with baseball now especially with live betting there's so many different things that you can bet like I and we're gon to I have some of those uh in one of my pictures let me pull it up here um let's go to baseball lines so do you know do you understand Baseball lines just in general a little bit okay so this was one a screenshot that I took from earlier can you see this on the screen uh yes okay so let's just go this is a screenshot I took of baseball lines from earlier this week uh on the 22nd whatever day that was that was uh but Thursday okay so the Washington Nationals were minus 150 against the Colorado Rockies right so basically the same exact thing it's like a money line in football if you if you think the Nationals are going to beat the Rockies you would have to give Vegas $150 to win 100 right and if they won you'd get 250 back your 150 that you gave them plus you won $100 because it's 150 to win I'm doing this all off $100 because it's just so much easier but yeah if you were to do a $50 bet on the Washington Nationals 50 is half of a 100 and then you would have to take half of 150 which is 75 you would give them 75 and if Washington won you would win 50 back but I'm just doing everything off 100 because it's a lot easier to understand big numbers whole numbers like that um so and then same thing with over runners in baseball eight and a half do you think there's going to be nine or more runs scored in the game you would bet over eight and a half do you think there's going to be eight or less runs scored in the game you would bet the under and same thing and now and then you have to look at this so by by making it 120 minus 120 on the over basically what Vegas is saying is we're getting a little more we're getting a little more money coming in on the over because everything is usually minus 110 minus 110 on both sides so if you see one at one minus 120 and the other one at 100 they're basically saying we don't want to move this line right here of eight and a half we don't want to move it to nine right but there is money coming in on the over so we'll just make you pay a little bit more of a premium we'll make you pay an extra 20 bucks and you have to give us $120 to win a 100 if it for it to go over uh if you want the over now if you want the under you're now you only have to give them a 100 so there's really no vigorish or juice on that and then uh also for baseball they have run lines and this is where it's almost like baseball does have a spread you know mostly mostly in baseball you're just picking the winner but you can bet the Run line which is I want the Washington Nationals if you just want them to win the game you have to give them 150 to win 100 however if you think the Washington Nationals can win by two or more runs you would bet them minus one and a half and you'd be getting money back so if the Washington Nationals win four to2 you gave them $100 you'd win 148 backs so you'd get two 48 back the 100 that you gave them and the 48 so that's like a spread in Baseball they have there are some books that have minus you can bet minus two and a half you can bet minus three and a half but that's basically it's it's hard enough to pick a winner now to sit here and say oh I think they're gonna win by one or more it's just like okay but what it does is it gives you better off it it gives you money back instead of having to give them 150 to win 100 you give them 100 you can win 148 back but to do that the red Nationals have to win by two and you'd be like well how many games end in one run in baseball a lot that's why that's why minus one and a half is plus 148 that's why you're getting money back because it's just I don't know what the number is in terms of the percentage of games that fall by a one a one-run game in baseball but it's a lot more than you think I think today in in Major League Baseball let me look real quick but today in Major League baseball there was one the Jays blew out two three four five there were five games that were one-run games today in baseball so and there's what 15 games a day in baseball there 30 teams in Major League Baseball so it's probably accurate it's probably averages four to five one-run games over the course of a season so 30% of the games land on one team wins by one run in baseball so that's why they're giving you okay you can pick the Nationals if you want them to win by two or more then by all means you can do that so yeah and and the the game the things that you're talking about prop bets for those are proposition bets they're fun bets to make but there's really no Rhyme or Reason you just have to you're just kind of crossing your fingers and and hoping um but anything uh anything else there there was another one that I wanted to show actually show this one so in baseball you can also bet the first half so taking that same Rockies Nationals game the first half is the first five innings so it'll say F5 if you're betting sometimes it'll say it'll say first half this says first half sometimes it'll say F5 which is the first five innings so it's everything is the same except you're just betting the first half of the game okay so the Washington Nationals were minus 150 to win the game do you think they're going to be leading at the end of the end of the fifth inning you then you would have to give them 140 to win 100 if you think the Rockies are going to be leading at the end of five innings you would give them a 100 and you'd win back 120 so so there's a lot of Statistics out there that all these baseball people and gambling people will put out there like you know the Rockies have been trailing after five innings in seven of their last eight games that's why Vegas knows all these numbers that's how they know to set it so on something like this again same thing with over under total will there be four and a half will there be four or less runs scored in the first five innings will there be five or more runs scored in the first Innings so you can bet that and then you can bet the Run line in the first five innings but it's only the Nationals minus a half so if it's tied at the end of five innings you would lose this bet because you are at Washington minus a half so the the Nationals have to be leading uh at the at the end of five let me um let me uh pull something up here um let's see okay um is that big enough I guess I should make it bigger but you can see that right is that too small no it's good okay all right what um anything else there yeah just also as a rookie better would you go spreads or or money line like is is it just a toss up like if if you don't for B for football or baseball for football because football I don't understand like I do basketball Hockey baseball so I'd really just be throwing darts out so would you go with the odds or would you sometimes just uh take a sort of a a flyer and and bet on a a smaller bet but on a long shot do those ever really pay out well let's look let's look at uh let's look at this one um oh whoops NFL week one lines so if we're talking NFL the NFL has so much parody in it you know just looking at these first three games Vegas is saying all these games are pretty much going to be close the Chiefs are favored by three the Eagles are favored by one and a half the Dolphins are favored by three and a half against the bags on Sunday the 8th to save yourself money it's smart just to use the spread because you don't have to you don't have to give them 125 if you want to bet the Eagles or 150 if 151 if you want to bet the Chiefs or 180 if you want to bet the Dolphins I understand that you're giving them money um you're you're just you're you're eliminating the line you're just saying I want the Dolphins to win well you're G to have to pay a premium for that because the Dolphins in Vegas eyes and the gambling public eyes um should win that game they're home against uh the Jaguars they should win but they're GNA make you pay $180 so if you did let's just say you did let's just say you bet all three games for $100 and you took All home teams in this you said I want the Chiefs to win I want the Eagles to win and you just did money line you didn't do the spread here I want the Chiefs to win I want the Eagles to win and I want the Dolphins to win well let's just say the Chiefs win and the Eagles win so you'd be up $200 right but if the Dolphins lose you lose 180 so now you're you went two and one and you're up 20 bucks because the game that you lost happened to be the most money that it cost to bet them to win the game outright so for me will I have money lines on occasion but it's just so much easier to do the point spread because you're only going to be basically paying 110 to win 100 you know this is 113 and 107 this one's a little high for the Ravens but you're getting three points with the Ravens so my suggestion to you would more be about um oh whoops I was showing the wrong picture it wasn't I oh yeah there you go yeah okay there sorry I had the other one sorry so Chiefs like I said if you pick the Chiefs Eagles and dolphins just to win the game outright you'd win $100 on the Chiefs and the Chiefs won Eagles won you'd win another $100 you'd be up $200 but you had to pay $180 right to win the Dolphins and if the Jackson and Jacksonville beats Miami you're up 20 bucks because you win 100 here you win 100 here but you lose 180 here so that's why I would mostly go with the point spread now let's just say you did the point spread on those same three games $100 each Chiefs minus three eagles minus one and a half Dolphins minus three and a half if the same thing happened if the Chiefs won and covered the spread they win by four or more you're at plus 100 if the Eagles win by two or more you're at plus 100 so now you're at plus 200 if the Dolphins don't cover or they lose the game outright if the Dolphins win by three or less or Jacksonville wins the game outright now you're only subtracting 107 so you Tech you'd be up 90 you'd be up $93 you're 100 here 100 here it's plus 200 minus 107 it's plus 93 so it's better than being up 20 bucks but again that's if those results CA came about and it's just like you know I say it all the time if if we knew who was gonna win these games we'd all be rich we don't know you're still you're still guessing you're taking into account like Trends and statistics and stuff like that but it's still all a giant guessing game if it wasn't then Vegas would be broke and they wouldn't be building 4,000 room hotels every you know every few years so that's why Vegas wins because especially when it comes to sports gambling for the most part people lose so it's the best way it's the best way to put it is the best way to describe it so if you wanted to increase your odds to make more than say a hundred on the spread is there any kind of safer parlays you would add for football I mean parlays any any professional gamble Gambler will tell you don't do parlays because it's hard enough to win one game right now you're asking yourself to win two and you have to go two and 0 to win your bet it's just it's hard you're better individually it's better to vet individually that's what any professional Gambler will tell you to do I'm not a professional Gambler I put parley's in all the time do I win some yes do I lose more than I win probably but it's fun because and we'll get to par I'm gonna get brietta how are you good how are you doing good how are you so um go ahead so I don't I don't know enough to know if this has been totally answered or not okay so I'll just throw some stuff out here my first kind of question is i' I've played some Blackjack so I'm kind of wondering like in terms of you like my shirt you like my shirt by the way you know what I'm on my phone so it's like seeing your shirt is like so yeah I do um so what would be like the equivalent to playing the table minimum um in like this scenario is that is that just betting the spread yes okay yeah that's that's what I was kind of taking away from that but I just didn't know if I was reading that right yeah I can you see the screen right now can you see the picture I have up on the screen yeah it's a little small but I I was watching it different and I totally understood everything so okay um so essentially yeah for this you're basically yeah I I think when you get into money and you're just picking teams to win the game yes you're eliminating the line but you're also kind of like if you lose that game just know you're losing more than the average because the average bet is usually minus you have to give Vegas $110 to win a 100 and that's just that's usually for point spreads like I said in this Ravens Chief's game it's a little bit more uh to the taking the Ravens uh you have to lay you have to give them 119 but in a game like Jacksonville and Miami it's kind of even it's almost close to 110 on each side but that's what that's what the equivalent would be to just bet the line bet the game with the line because you're just not going to get killed on the juice the vigorish whatever you want to call it which is Vegas's tax for taking your bet is essentially what the the vigorish or the juice is so um I would I would suggest uh betting the the line in particular okay yeah um if you're interested in that but so what also okay I know it's betting right but yeah so weekly versus like a season in the NFL what is like safer what would you recommend I I think it's tough because obviously every Sunday there's games and I think people that like to do it like myself like I'm pretty much going to put in bets every weekend but I have to understand that it is more of a marathon than a Sprint because you're there's no way if you bet every weekend you are going to be on the plus side every weekend it's just not going to happen and I've already ingrained that in my head I know I'm not going to win every weekend but kind of just like um you said you play Blackjack yeah it's kind of like Blackjack where in blackjack do you bet the same on every single hand no yeah so what you need to you know when you're playing Blackjack the one thing you need to do is when you up your bet those are the hands obviously that you want to win right like if you I if you have a $10 bet out on Blackjack and you win you win 10 bucks and you're like oh I'm feeling lucky I'm putting it up to 30 and you lose that hand well now you're at minus 20 over those last two hands so if you go back to 10 that means you have to win two hands to get back two hands in a row to get back to where you originally were before you place that first $10 bet so the key in blackjack is when you up your bet to to make sure you win those and lose the smaller bets that you make but again if we knew what if we knew what cards were coming in blackjack we'd all be rich we don't know what's coming but that's the goal as you just sitting there at a table it's like man if I want to up my bet I need to win this and then I'll just you know I'll go back down and then I can afford to lose a couple because I just won a a $50 bet if I go back down to 10 if I lose that I'm still up 40 if I lose the next one I'm still up 30 so you know what I'm saying yeah same thing in sports gambling you have to win your bigger bets the the games that you like better than others you just have to hope you win those and it offsets the losses because you're gonna have losses you're not going to go undefeated every weekend the the the number that is thrown around in the gambling world is 52 and a half percent if you bet a $100 if you just bet all season in the NFL and every game that you bet you put $100 on it you would have to hit 52% of your games to just break even and that's if you did nothing else you didn't do anything other than $100 on games you like and you never upped your bet to 200 you never upped it to 500 you just put a 100 on every game you have to hit 52% to break even to be at zero at the 52 and a half percent is what it is because of that minus 110 that they charge gotcha so that's why it's and as Robin brought up about parlays like it's it's hard enough to win one and to do a parlay you have to win two and that's just yeah that's my other question but you said you were gonna talk about parlays because I that's something I I teach seniors in high school and they're always Sports bet and they're like well want to get on this parlay and I'm I don't know what you're talking about so yeah you know what let's um let me um let me should I do parlays now yeah let's uh let's do parlays so here's here's a parlay screen is this is this big enough yeah this is big enough yeah so a $100 parlay now let's just say you're doing spreads okay and as I said most spreads are whatever the spread is you're minus three you on Chiefs minus three Baltimore just say everything's minus 110 so I'm gonna type in minus 110 and you do a two- team parlay of minus 110 meaning you're doing a $100 bet it's a parlay and both numbers that you're are are minus 110 just a straight two team parlay you're betting two teams against the spread and it wins that usually pays sometimes it's 260 this is saying 264 so you go two and 0 you give them $100 you're getting 364 back your $100 that you gave them and you win 264 because they're telling you it's not easy to go two and0 in fact it's it's basically you're gonna win two and a half times your bet 2.6 to be exact because you're giving them a 100 and you're winning 264 if you win if you go two and0 now if you do a three- team parlay this should be six to one okay 596 yeah you're gonna win it's basically six to one you're G to get for a $100 bet on three games you're gonna get $600 back this is saying 596 I'm telling you Vegas is going to pay you at least 600 I mean it's basically the same yeah yeah um now there's all these crazy things that people are doing now because sports betting is legal in 38 out of 50 states and you can do it online on your phone probably what you're the kids that you're talking about are doing eight and 10 team parlays that have much better odds than minus 110 so let's take this one for example let's go back to this page and see um let's take let's just say you think the Ravens are gonna beat Kansas City you're gonna take away this plus three you just say I think they're gonna win outright so they're plus 131 you think the Packers are gonna beat the Eagles they're plus 106 and Jacksonville is gonna beat Miami plus 155 you want to do a three- team parlay and you're eliminating the lines so you're going to go Ravens plus 131 Packers Plus plus 106 Jacksonville plus 155 so let's go back to this one so let's go 131 106 and what was this one it was 155 155 so before I type this in remember we saw earlier $100 parlay at regular minus one 10 odds paid six to1 5.96 whatever for three underdogs to win the game outright it's going to pay you 11 to one because they're not they're not supposed to win so a three- team parlay at $100 but you're not taking the point spread and you're getting Ravens at plus 131 Packers plus 106 Jacksonville plus 155 you're gonna get paid $1,100 back on a $100 bet so technically you're going to get $1,213 back because1 $100 that you gave them but 11 to one is not easy it's a it's a nice payout but that means that the Ravens the Packers and the Jacksonville Jaguars all have to win the game outright and if two of them if two of them win outright you lose your bet you lose $100 because you have to go I don't even know if I I don't even know if I explain that correctly on a parlay you have to win every part of your bet that's why they're giving you such good odds because you can't go two and one you have to go three and0 if you do a three teamer now let's just say you only wanted to do two teams let's just say you only wanted to do ravens plus 131 Green Bay plus 106 you're still going to get better than what was it 264 um you're still gonna get better than that you're gonna get $376 back if those two teams win but you have to go two and 0 so it's the best way to explain it is you're yes parlays are gonna pay more but they're harder to win because you have to win every bet in your parlay and the big ones that some kids do that's like seven or eight teams I mean the odds of hitting that are just so so slim have they hit before sure but oh they say they're gonna win one game they're gonna come in suits the next day when they win so yeah yeah and makes sense now like oh yeah you're putting in 20 bucks and you think you're gonna win all this money that now I get it there there are there are okay so let's do this let's do I'm just gonna do a bunch of numbers like one 147 ad bet uh let's say one is a plus 200 one is let's do one 180 one21 this is what I mean you could do a five team parlay if these happen to be the plus odds on all of them a $100 bet would win you back or a $20 bet oh would win you 4,300 but to win six you have to go six and0 and these are all bets that are considered technically underdogs because you're getting plus money on all of them could it happen again it could but to go six and you have to win all six of these to win to make to turn this $20 into 4,300 4,343 184 and I just now if you did you know you did a $100 bet on this you just multiply that by five you just won 21 Grand but again a $100 16 parlay of all underdogs without getting the without taking the points I mean it' be great if you want it it's just it's very hard to do so that's that's the best way to describe it that makes a lot of sense oh good I'm glad I let's see here teasers on this thing while you're looking that up I got to tell you uh I have to thank my wife because my wife has listened to your daily podcast for years and about two years ago told me you had a sports podcast so I turned it on and I've been listening since oh good I'm glad I I appreciate it thank you very much she loves it she listens every day and she downloads it through Apple oh good that's that's the best way it's easiest way um I can explain teasers but I don't have any pictures so it's not it's probably not going to come across as well because it's just it's tougher and um yeah I don't have um it's it's hard to explain with it's hard to explain without without a visual on a teaser because it's hard I mean it's hard enough to just look at lines and do it but right yeah so as far as this information I understand all this information and been doing this for a long time for for several years like you have small small bets here and there just to keep myself interested in games yeah but when I listen to your sports podcast I love your Insight so where do you get your Insight and what do you study do you use uh other people do you use websites do you use what do you use to get your information and determine which ones you like gosh uh a lot I listen to a lot of sports podcasts I listened I I I follow Twitter accounts and there are just people that I've listened to long enough to where sometimes I'll just they say they like a game I'll be like you know it's almost like confirmation bias I'll be like oh good somebody else likes that game too I'm gonna bet it like but if they like an opposite side of me they me they either might a change my mind about betting that game or I'll just be like oh crap I like that one and this guy who knows a lot about football doesn't like that side so I'll just stay away from it so it's all dependent on on what I feel like I just following Instagram accounts following Twitter accounts listening to podcasts I have two newsl letters that I get that are sent in PDF every week that has a summary of every game the handicappers thoughts on them and I just take that all into consideration ultimately it's it's my choice what I decide to bet but I you know it's it's still I don't want to say a losing proposition but to you know to find somebody who consistently hits every single year year in year out it's it's tough there are some guys on there that do well but you know again sometimes I see their picks and I pick and choose which ones I like and it's like well if you're doing that then what if you pick the two what if they give you six games that they really like this weekend and you pick two of them and they go 0 and two in the two that you picked but they went four and0 on the other ones and they went four and two for the week it's almost like you either have to bet all of them or bet none of them because you can't gripe at the end when this guy's saying hey I went four and two this weekend I'm like crap I only used two of his games and those are the two that he lost you know but I've had weekends where the opposite happen so you know I I pick and choose and I pick the ones that he did win and didn't bet the ones he ended up losing so it's really just a lot of information overload for me I really take a lot of information in and I just decide from there and for me as a gambler I'm much more uh of an underdog better um because I like taking the points in games because you know you just you know this as a gambler when you when you bet a game with a point spread let's take football for example because it's the easy it's the one that most people bet on when you bet on a football game there are three possible outcomes if you bet the favorite uh the favorite has to win not only has to win but they have to cover the spread so that means that if you bet the underdog you have two chances to win them winning the game outright or them losing the game but you covering because that you know you're getting five points and they can they can still lose the game by one two three or four so it's almost if you want to force a play and you're like I just need to gamble on something I would always just take an underdog just because two of the three results have you winning ver versus the favorite they can win the game and you still lose your bet so seems simple but I think a lot of people think the favorite is going to win all the time and always cover and it's not necessarily the case so that's what I would tell you is that I would just take a lot of information in Twitter Instagram I mean the problem is there's so many people online now that are giving information it's like who's good A lot of these guys are giving records that I just don't believe so it's just guys that I've been on for years that I've been following that uh send me PDFs and um you know you pay for their service it's not for not necessarily the picks but it's for the information they'll break down the games they'll say look at this this is a trend you know there's trends for everything so there's also that to look into but you know from there it's uh it's it's just a lot of in information overload and I just make my determination from there are you able to post or share that information somewhere like my PS no not just your pics but the the data that you Garner because that's my problem is I can't there's such so much information out there and so much information overload yeah I mean honestly I listen to yours and then kind of take one or two of your picks each week during football season kind of figure out which one I like which ones I like the best and you're right sometimes I pick two of the ones you pick and I pick the wrong two yeah yeah that's what I mean it's almost like you got to use them all or you can't or or don't use any of them because you could run into that same situation last year I started off great and then I basically evened out and I think I was right around 500 for the season 18 weeks of betting football and my record I believe between college and pro was like right at 500 you know and it's just like that's what's so that's what's so tough um I mean the stuff that I get I pay for so I'm not gonna I I I would feel bad about passing it out but podcasts let's see which ones do I listen to um and and the pay service I'm willing to pay for it you know just I just don't know who to I just don't know I haven't followed anybody long enough so I don't know who would give me legit information and I mean I used to get those newslet those free newsletters when I was a kid just to go through them I can give you I can give you um I can email you and just say here's the here's uh two guy there's two guys that I've followed for years and I get their Weekly Newsletter and um like it's like 99 bucks for the season I don't know if that's out your price range or what but yeah it's n90 it's 99 bucks for the season and it's I mean it's I'm talking about about his thorough breakdown as you can of every single game in college and pro every week and they give their they give their picks on it but I wouldn't necessarily use their picks I would just use the info you know look at a game that you like and see what their breakdown of it is and see if it you know has confirmation by is for you if you're like oh okay this it's kind it's kind of leaning to what I'm I'm looking at but um yeah I mean it's it's really really good but it's also I I I use them for their information even though both newsletters give picks every week in college and pro sometimes I'll like the picks I'll be like yeah I like that one but sometimes I stay away just because last year I don't think they did well on their picks so but I can I can send you that I think one of them is 99 bucks for the year and one of them is um well I have his full package so I don't uh what is his what is just to get the newsletter it's probably right around the same maybe it's 79 or 89 bucks but okay you can choose um but good writeups and um of each game in college and pro every week and then podcasts um which podcast do I listen I mean I have I listen to Bill Simmons podcast I listen to um the ringer the the ringer gambling Show podcast I listen to the favorites podcast and I listen to Bear bets so there's four that I listen to every week and I can uh and I can send you those in an email as well just so um yeah you can write those down but I can send you those in an email as well just so okay and and if you have any anybody in particular with Twitter that you like as well yeah who do I follow on Twitter that there's a guy I follow um Cody what's his name he's got some he's got some pretty good Insight let me see if I can find it here find his here and I'll tell you who it is Cody Brown maybe is his name Cody Brown let's see if that's it I mean there's so many online now yeah exactly everybody's claiming to be an expert It's just tough yeah at Cody Brown bets at Cody Brown bets yeah yeah can't say I've heard of him okay just be careful if I mean I don't know I mean he can say my record is this but it's really tough to know I mean I don't know let me see this guy he's got 460,000 followers so he clearly looks like he's been around for a while um he gives free picks every day I'm sure he's got something that he charges for yeah he says yeah I don't know I I have no idea how good that guy is or or not but seems like got a big following I would definitely tend to look into people who have bigger followings you know some guy on Twitter that's got 1100 followers or something like that I just wouldn't put much stock into because clearly they haven't made a name for themselves but uh yeah I can send you the info of the ones perfect that that I have um anything else you anything else that was it just where where I get my insight give me more information yeah and I'll definitely I'll email I still have your email so I'll email you to go over things that I didn't get to and um let's start with this I if you've heard me talk about it you've heard me talk about Futures where you can bet uh is this big enough yeah oh whoops oops uh oh okay so Futures whereas beginning of the Season before the NFL season starts Vegas puts out a number on what they think every team's win total is going to be and it's strictly over unders these are I think these first two pictures are yeah two of them so I've got five over understand these is just I just chose these at random so right now the Pittsburgh Steelers over under this year is eight and five you know that the NFL plays 17 game schedules so if you want the to bet the Pittsburgh Steelers over you think they're G to go nine and eight or better you would take the over eight and a half and you'd get money back because basically Vegas is saying we have more money coming in on the Steelers under which is why you have to give them $137 to win 100 to go eight and nine or worse if you bet the under or you bet them over like I said nine Tennessee Titans over under six and a half so they're thinking if you want to bet the over seven- 10 or better for the Titans six and a half to the under and more people seem to be betting the Titans under that's why you have to give them $147 to win 100 because Vegas doesn't want to move this six and a half down down to six they're like we'll keep it at six and a half even though more money is pro is coming in on the Tennessee Titans more people are betting the Titans to win six games or less but we're gonna make them pay $147 to win a 100 let's go here these are three other teams Ravens are at 10 and a half right now and this is pretty even you know 103 minus 103 minus 117 you know I said most games are minus 110- 110 the other two that I showed you weren't close to 110 and 110 so the Baltimore Ravens if you think they're going to win 11 games or more you would take their over because their total is set at 10 and a half and Vegas back in the day Vegas used to set NFL teams they didn't have the half point or not the half point they didn't put the halves on win totals you could get a push if they set it at eight and the team went eight and eight or whatever or eight- n they're putting everything at halves now because they want to be paying out either winning or losing because obviously you can't finish a season with eight and a half wins or nine and a half wins you're either winning eight nine or 10 or 11 or 12 so the Ravens do you think they're going to go 11 and six or better you would bet the over you think they're going 10 and seven or worse you would bet they're under Chicago Bears now this is the one I've been talking about on my podcast All Season since hard knocks on HBO Max started because people are seeing their team they're talking about you know the Hard Knock usually talks the team up that they're covering and right now the Chicago Bears over under is eight and a half so you're like man all the all the Bears have to do is go nine and eight for me to win my bet if I bet them over their total this year yeah but you have to you have to lay $175 to win a 100 basically Vegas is getting so much money on the Bears right now that they don't want to move this eight and a half to nine if they moved it to nine then this number would go down but they're like no we'll keep it at eight and a half because we know everyone's coming in they're very well aware that people are betting the Bears over because they're watching Hard Knocks and doesn't mean their bears are gonna not win nine or doesn't mean they are gonna win nine we we just don't know but these are bets you have to put in before the first before the Bears kick off on Sunday uh September 8th so you have two more weeks to put this bet in either over or under if you're interested in betting that but that is once that's in there's nothing you can do you just put the bet in and then you just wait till the end of the season so you're going to have a bet involved you're not going to be able to collect on it if you win your bet until January because even if even if the Bears are at nine let's just say the Bears start the season nine and three and you bet they're over Vegas isn't giving you your money until the season is over they're not going to take your ticket uh until the season is over so unfortunately that's the only thing about betting Futures is you have to wait four months to collect your money Bengals same total as the Ravens they're at 10 and a half and you have to pay a little bit extra juice on this you have to give them 122 to win 100 we did this one already point spreads for week one Super Bowl odds here's another thing that we haven't uh whoops sh this tab Super Bowl odds we haven't gone over this yet this is all just moneyline stuff who do you think's going to win the Super Bowl now these are all based off of $100 bets so when you see this basically eliminate the last basically eliminate the last two numbers cuz you're basically dividing 3150 by 100 so the Chicago Bears right now are 31 to1 to win the Super Bowl a $100 bet will pay you 30 $33,150 on the Bears to win the Super Bowl so these are all pretty self-explanatory but they're all straight moneyline and it's just easy as you can get odds to win the Super Bowl now the Arizona Cardinals because they're not supposed to win the Super Bowl and it would be a miracle if they did you divide 15,500 by 100 they are a 100 like I said eliminate the last two numbers of anything that's four digits or more they are 155 to one so a $100 bet on the Arizona Cardinal to win the Super Bowl would return you $15,500 but do you honestly think the Arizona Cardinals are winning the Super Bowl probably not $100 you might as well light on fire because they're not going to win the Super Bowl this year that's why their odds are so high who's a team that a lot of people think could win the Super Bowl well the Kansas City Chiefs that's why they are only five to one so if you put $100 on the Chiefs and they win the Super Bowl you still get money back but you're getting $533 back versus if the Arizona Cardinals won the Super Bowl you'd get $15,000 back so that just shows that's why that's why there's things called odds there are just some teams that are going to do better than others I think that's pretty self-explanatory right Super Bowl Super Bowl odds um I hope um hope that was I hope that was fairly self-explanatory let's go to this one college football these again are just odds to do certain things and the thing the thing that I chose was Clemson I just took a screenshot because they did this in alphabetical order so I took a screenshot of three teams in college football and this this bet was will they make the 12 team playoff not win it but just be in the 12 team playoff and right now for Clemson to be in the 12 team playoff yes $100 pays you back 172 a lot of people are thinking Clemson can make the playoffs so this would actually be I'm not saying to go bet Clemson but here Clemson grad just for them to make the 12 team playoff they just need to get in that's what this bet is $100 will pay you back 172 for Colorado to make the 12 team playoff they're 11 to1 so $100 would pay you back $1,150 the problem is the Colorado Buffalo are not making the college football playoff this year but if you're if you want to bet no on Colorado remember in baseball you remember the City Chiefs in week one where is that Kansas City Chiefs the money line just to beat the Baltimore Ravens you have to give Vegas $151 to win a 100 just for them to win the game well on this one you have to give Vegas $1,718 just to win a 100 on Colorado not to make the 12 team playoff and let's face it the Colorado buffalos are not going to make the 12 team playoff this year but Vegas is going to make you pay $1,700 just to win $100 so if you had that type of money and you're like okay here's $1,718 Vegas I don't think Colorado is gonna make the playoffs which they won't and when Colorado doesn't make the playoffs you're going to get your 1718 back plus another 100 so you'll win a 100 bucks but you're going to be out $1,700 for four months because you can't collect that until the 12 team playoff is is announced so you're well they'll announce that in December so three months how about Florida Florida's got the hardest schedule in college football this year so that's why we know they're not making the college football playoff you thought $1,700 to win $100 was a lot Vegas Vegas is gonna make you pay $7,800 to win $100 to say Florida will not make the 12 team playoff which they're not going to but they're so not going to make the playoff that Vegas is going to make you pay $7,800 to win $100 so why would you do that it's just a stupid bet now if money isn't an issue in your life and you have $500,000 sitting around I can tell you right now you can guarantee yourself what's what's $500,000 divided by 7825 oh wait 7825 divided by $500,000 oh whoops um so 7825 time 60 63 yeah if you went to the Vegas window and said here's $500,000 I don't think think Florida is going to make the 12 team playoff you would win $630 back if they didn't so again it's not worth it it's not worth to be out $500,000 so you can win $600 so moving on to the next one we did this earlier baseball okay this last one is somebody that is is one that somebody sent me in and this is a prop bet I think um I think Robin was talking about this in the our first person we had on this is a prop bet to where yeah hold on okay so this is something to where you can do players stuff so tank Dell is a wide receiver for the Houston Texans and they have set a prop bet which is a season bet here because it's saying for this season 2024 25 25 regular season receiving T touchdowns tank Dell over four and a half or under four and a half and again this is a straight over under do you think he's gonna score five or more touchdowns receiving it has to be him catching it in the end zone if he runs one in does not count has to be a receiving touchdown do you think he will get five or more this season if you do you would bet his over but you would have to give them one $135 to win the 100 if you bet is under $100 would return you 105 so there you go um and this is this is the same that goes for all baseball football they have all these sorts of prop bets that you can do will this person hit a home run will this person do this will this person do that there's so many of these whether it's for the season for a game I mean there's just so many things the every single game in in the NFL season you will see the the quarterback's passing yards will Josh Allen throw for two his over under this game is 24 yards you're just gonna bet do I think Josh Allen's passing for over 254 this game or under 254 this game and just that's what I mean when I said there's so many things to bet but these are your Basics because most people just want to bet the line what's the line on the game and that brings us back to this one which is like I said these are just the first three games on the board in Las Vegas when NFL season starts the Chiefs are three-point favorites over the Ravens the Philadelphia Eagles are one and a half Point favorites over the Green Bay Packers the Miami Dolphins are three and a half Point favorites over the Jacksonville Jaguars and obviously there's a Full Slate of games in the NFL but I just took a screenshot uh of these because these are the first three this is what most people want a bet yes you've got your degenerates and I'll dabble in prop bets every once in a while I'm not going to do tank Dell's you know touchdowns this year just because I've just not invested in stuff like that more I'd rather bet the games and future bets like I did with those um like I told you with the Bears over under winds and stuff like that but so these are pretty much the basics I I I want to open it up to people in the uh so this is these were all the pictures that I had so I do want to open it up to anybody in in the chat if you have anything that um that you want to ask um by all means let me know um you don't that's fine is there a minimum you have to bet in Vegas I I would think it's five dollar I don't think you can place a$1 bet maybe you can on a sports game maybe it's five but maybe it is one I just I I just think the the sportsbooks in Vegas would frown upon you if you walked up to the window and said I want to place a $1 bet I just $5 yes they'll take that but I don't are the two big ones that are basically going to buy out everybody else and will probably be legal in Most states in three to five years in if not all 50 states FanDuel and DraftKings because those are the ones that allow you to bet like every single thing in the world I mean we're talking same game parlays and stuff like that so DraftKings and FanDuel but I don't think DraftKings and FanDuel are in every state they're not in Texas so I don't use them but yeah I would say those two are the best um anything else that um anybody has before we uh head out of here I'm just looking at some things here okay uh let me scroll up if you had questions before because I'm just looking at the bottom um yeah this is people in the people in the chat are basically just explaining um I think the big I I'm I'm guessing the biggest thing that people might be having a problem with not a problem but the hardest thing to understand would be this one and that is the um is the money line versus the point spread and this number here is just screwing people up the minus 101 minus 119 just just know that this number no matter what it is if it's a minus that means to win a 100 you have to give them 119 if it's a plus that means on a $100 bet you get this back plus I mean the best way to do it is plus is a good thing minus is a Bad Thing meaning you got to give them more than what you win or what you would win on your bet if you think the Kansas City Chiefs are gonna beat the Ravens throw out the point spread on that Thursday night opener you have to give Vegas $151 to win1 if you think the Ravens are going to win the game outright you give them $100 you're going to win 131 back so you will come back with $231 so just keep that in mind any other questions if not we'll uh we'll wrap it up
