playoffs wind down the sports stops sporting like we want them to but the summer FanDuel is hooking up all customers with a boost or bonus daily that's right there's something for everyone every day all summer long so visit fanduel.com to get started LS we got a really fun show today for the everydays we got a question from one of our fantastic insiders that we're goingon to get into about the tight ends because we have to talk to Jordan powpow after practice today on Thursday as we're recording this we're gonna get into all our takeaways from Thursday's practice but we've gotta start with the biggest one the eight-time Super Bowl champion the goat New England Patriots former New England Patriots head coach Bill bellich was back on at practice on Thursday and it's it's just so cool to see him out there man it really is well it was really funny today when he literally looked exactly like Jed aside from you know depending on how far your how far how your vision is you know Jed's obviously a little bit little bit Slimmer a little bit younger but again they're really like I remember we're taking a video of them as they were walking off back in the spring and they're they're basically the same person if you really don't have a Keen Eye and even if you do have a keen I just 20 yards away they kind of look like the same person but it's really funny but no but it was nice having bill out there and we knew he was gonna be back because again there's the like Futures event and it sounded like on macave show that um Michael leardi said that he and if he were guys are going to come out here sometime in the fall during fall cam so this would be round about the time and the cool thing is it's not just him making the appearance fee for the you know the dinner with Bill and and all that sort of stuff I posted this on Twitter and I'll have a story about it on on inside the huskys but it was talking about just how will or not will said that I said that today how bill um is actually like paying attention to every single position group in practice he's not just standing there like all Steve so when do you think you're coming back to NFL you like you like Nashville like you know they're he's actually truly invested in it which I think is nice to see no I agree and it's it's really funny because you know we got a comment from somebody who was certainly a fan of a of a non- Washington team the other day who said I'm tired of you guys using you know Bill Bel as clickbait he's not doing anything he just went to a practice and that's so far from the truth because we're there and we're watching it we're watching him interact I remember at one point I was watching him with and he was with Steve and they're watching the defensive line and yeah he's not always interacting with the players but we watch him in the spring step in and Coach guys we got to ask melin about that and he's like yeah that was a really interesting moment like it's it's really crazy to kind of think about that and what it's like having you know Bill bich be there and I remember we talked to a lot of coaches about it too where they said yeah he's been really involved he was really helping us out with not just game planning but you know teaching the system doing this doing that where he was coaching the coaches and all of that is in itself a really really huge help to obviously any program but to have it be Washington and to have all this happen at Washington is so awesome and it's it makes our job more fun we love our job we love what we do and having a guy like Bill bich around the program is just so special and you got to give a lot of credit to Jed fish for being able to make all this happen yeah it's it's the vision of jedf fish knowing what he getting in both his his sons the bich and Vinnie c as well so it's not just the bich bich connection it's like you also have ceri who is proven to be a more than capable college coach in you know recruit at least recruit on the recruiting Trail should we say but we can see it in practice how intently he is working with these safeties and honestly all the defensive backs kind of in that triangle that we talked about with him Mondo and John Richardson the quarterback coach just how they all engage and kind of play off of each other and even Steve when he says it's like it's to washhington defense it's not my defense it's not Bill's defense when in reality it's probably a mixture of everything and it's a little bit more his dad's defense and we're all gonna give credit to but it's also it's his version of it it's not him going back from you know five to 10 years ago and pulling out bill bich playes from New England saying all right guys this is what we're running I don't care what the offense is running it's not 2024 it's 2015 you know it's so I think there's even more ways that we've seen like we saw today where it's again there's no no no no down line fronts and you know various different looks that that the defense has been showing it's it's going to be a new age but it's also I think it's a unique kind of meshing of the two minds where you have a young belich and center and a middle of the road because jet still relatively young in the grand scheme and things in Jed fish with Bill it's almost like Bill's kind of relearning the ropes in a way it's oh okay interesting like I I used to have Tom Brady and now I'm working with I'm talking with Deon Williams who's a lot you know more mobile and more Dynamic quarterback and that's no disrespective Brady right but it's just like it's getting Bill to see something in a new light in a new way and I think being around at college program is almost perfect for him because we're these guys all trying to end up in the NFL where B was absolutely no I I I really like where you're going with that and it's because it's an interesting step back for Bill right where obviously you know this is the first time in like literally 50 years that he hasn't been coaching in the NFL so I'm sure he's kind of like you know wandered around like man what am what am I going to do with my time and being able to not only have a low stress environment where he can go help his son not necessarily have to worry about that aspect of it very much and obviously we've seen him making the media rounds he's got his whole show that he's doing all that other stuff and he's just saying yeah I'm gonna spend some time helping Washington helping the defense it's it's all just like truly so special in my opinion because the more you look at it and the more you see like in you know we're going to look back on this moment in five 10 15 years with no matter what happens and you say yeah there was that time period where Bill bellich was at Washington and you can't understate that or no he's not you know a coach that's on the on the payroll or anything right now at least but it's one of those things where it's yeah that's that's a really amazing thing to think about and just the more you look at it the more you look at what this defense is going to turn into as we talked about earlier this week it all is obviously so heavily inspired by him and what he's doing and having the architect the master of all that where you know I I love what Jed fish's offensive scheme is going to be but it's one thing to have him teach it it's like having Mike Shanahan and Kyle Shanahan and sha McVey The Architects of what that is come into the building and say hey yeah this is how you run this this is how you want that taught and of course Jed fish is more than capable of doing that or else he wouldn't be in this position and the same thing with Steve but having his dad just say yeah I've got time on my hands let me come in and let me help you out out with all these different things just makes that learning process so much easier and makes it special for these guys yeah he he's more than just a raah ra guy mean obviously he's never gonna be you know the pom pom guy anyways but just in that respect it's more or less I I think it's you you kind of put it in a perfect breath where it's taking a step back it's seeing things through a new light seeing it almost like how is sun do it it's like all right you know I've been the one calling the plays for two three decades as you mentioned let's see how Steve calls it and maybe Steve's doing some things these guys and obviously you know there's always going to be that story five to 10 years from now when Bill's back in the NFL and they draft somebody out of Washington or there's like a Washington TI or you know like a f pry Sox signs with I don't know whatever whever Bill ends up and you know Bill like hey you know what I remember watching him his first day at Washington when I came out there that first fall for under Jed fish I almost wonder like what's Bill's expectations for what he's gonna get out of this I think I would love I would just love to like have a couple of questions for Bill like what is the end game here what are you what are you getting out so far like have you gotten out so far and what more do you feel like you can both offer and get out of this program and experience seeing your son in action seeing Vinnie work with the safeties instead of the running backs like you know did you know that Vinnie could coach safeties you know is that is that a thing or were you just trying to pige hor your guys and um I'm being tongue and Chic about that last part but it's it's still all kind all the same where I'm curious what Bill what Bill makes of this because he could turn into something great and you know learn from like the next wave of kind of the new era of college offenses like Ryan grub is going to bring to the Seahawks or is he just like I'm going to just use this and be around my son and kind of help my kid and you know make an appearance make some money and then just you know still keep doing my own way because I don't think that's necessarily the case Lis I I love everything you said there now let's crack into the notebook get us some other things from Thursday's practice right after a message from our good friends over at fol I love sports I love him so much I never want him to stop but as the playoffs wind down we get fewer games and the sports aren't sport in like I want them to but FanDuel lets me keep the sports going whenever I want all I have to do is open the app and dream up bets anytime I'm in the mood and this summer fand is hooking up all customers with a boost or a bonus daily that's right there's something for everyone every day all summer long so head over to fanduel.com and start making the most out a your summer FanDuel is an official sports betting partner of Major League Baseball and speaking Major League Baseball I know I said it the other day but I gotta come back to it Bobby wit is just he might be the best player in baseball right now just with the way he runs he's a true five tool player watching him field watching that guy hit and his MVP odds over on FanDuel they're they're looking pretty nice right now and he's certainly a better player than Aaron judge if he keeps doing what he's doing he certainly deserves to win MVP over judge so you should go check out his odds on FanDuel so Lars let's jump into some of the other takeaways from Thursday where the first thing that I I think we need to mention is Will Rogers has continued to look really really good leading this offense no out and I think it was exactly what we thought where when you looked at what he did in the spring it was kind of like okay you know wait till he gets the offensive line and a little more sunk in with the receivers and you saw it today not just to Denzel not just to Giles but also to Jeremiah you could see all the Reps over the summer really starting to pay off and he had a back shoulder throw to Jeremiah that he made look effortless and it was one of those yeah you could even hear the whisper like oh wow it's the back shoulder and it's like yeah wi can do some of these throws you might not have seen it last year in the past couple years you know towards the end with Mike Leech but he's got all that you know in his bank it's just a matter of how can Jed unlock it and I think we we've seen a pretty pointed Jed fish know that he's got a good quarterback in Will Rogers and it's like hey all right receivers win your one-on-one offensive line figure it out I we saw I saw D'Angelo LE stand up looking pyop toing one one like you know these guys are hearing the message and so I think as long as everybody continues to progress as they shouldn't can but like will is this is exactly why you still have jaman pushing and doing good things with his legs and stuff like that there's no no qums about that but also you can see there's clearly a gap between will and de and let still disrespect it's exactly kind of what we expect where it's a fifth year senior and a true freshman who by the way will win the job possibly in 25 and you know have two or three years to play and and the rest will be history and that'll be fine and like you said you know I don't know if it was yesterday's show or on Tuesday's show but know Deon will probably have the better career of the two All Things Considered a because Will's only going to get one year but you know oh you mean on Lake I was going to say it's hard to be top five all time in in passing and touchdowns in the SEC but no I I I hear your point yeah no please I'm sorry continue right just in the sense of what they will each be able to do on like Panic kind of got snuck that back year in there with that second year because ideally he was also gonna be a one year too so the fact that you're only gonna get one you know that deon's really the future guy but you still want to see what he can do now and but I think we we finally start to see will be like all right this is my offense Joon is my running back Cam's my running back I got my three receivers my four receivers you know latu and more great you know which we'll talk about in the third segment I think it's just a matter of the offensive line you know some position still to sort out there I think you know I don't think that that five is set by any stretch of the imagination at least I would hope not you know disrespect to the five that have been going with the ones right now but I I there's still the defensive line is getting a lot of push in some moments where you would think okay you know you can have Jonah and Cam Davis make guys miss every now and then but you do need to open some holes in the Run game especially so Jonah did make a really nice play today on a screen where he ran through a couple tackles to took a 25 yards for a touchdown uh one thing that I want to mention here is one guy who also had a really good day working with Will Rogers is somebody who missed a workout a couple of days ago due to a minor injury and it was nothing to be concerned about and we really saw that on full display today and that's Denzel Boston where we haven't mentioned his name a lot over the course of you know the first week or so of the show especially like we're in the spring where he certainly hasn't looked like he did in the spring in one way and that's making highlight real catches but outside of that he's been just as good in every single area where he's been a really nice route Runner he his athleticism and stretching the field he's been a really good run blocker and is succeeding at all three levels of the field he just isn't you know going up over guys and Mossing aesan Brak like he was every single day in the spring so we haven't necessarily talked about him a whole time but he's some that has really really looked good in this offense and you know as we've talked about over the last couple days when you combine him with Jeremiah Hunter who's continuing to look really really good when you combine it with Giles Jackson who had another really strong day today all of a sudden as you said Lars we're talking about a really really good core of wide receivers a really good core of skill positions in general when you factor in the tight ends when you factor in the running backs as you just said and that's what makes this offense really exciting now of course I like I know I keep saying as you said but with what you just said with if the offensive line holds up that's the biggest thing if the offensive line holds up this could be a really really good offense and it doesn't need to be elite it does not need to win the Joe Moore award I know that's every offensive Line's goal but it doesn't have to do that to run this offense effectively and if it can it's going to be really really solid now LS let's jump over the defense really quick here because one guy that I really want to talk about that I'm certainly hitting on one of my agendas here is DeShaun Lynch DeShaun Lynch had another really really good day today I've got him down here with two sacks and it doesn't he's also got a a pass breakup that he had you know rolling out and just trying to get in coverage on on Dean Williams and trying to track him down he's somebody who's continued to have a really really strong camp where you know we talked about him with Jason KUSI the other day and he's somebody who you know he gave us the the chalk answer of yeah it's really nice to have a super valuable football player who can line up all over the defense and we've seen him line up as a knows we've seen him line up as a defensive tackle we've seen him line up as a defensive end we've even seen him you know line up as a standup outside linebacker where having a guy who can line up literally anywhere on the defensive line and not just do it but play that position effectively is so critical in any defense but especially in this one it frees up so many other things and to see him be really really productive today was a really nice sign in my opinion I'm I'm 100% with you and I think it's it's the first facility that really does it for me with him which similar perfect seg for my guy would be um Jordan Shaw didn't have a pick had really had a couple PPU said probably should have had at least one pick if not two um there was one that he had against Dean that he just FL out dropped and I was like that's criminal but you know that Jordan sh has made enough plays um throughout fall camp where I think he's a guy between him and Peyton Waters where I know we had this discussion off you know before the show and I practice where we we both know Harrington and brard are going to play and then you have Mel and you have campf I still Envision I still see a world in some way shape or form especially with those latter two guys and that's don't disr to Harrington to Mel but I don't think they've necessarily done anything in Fall camp that has locked down those spots and if anything you start to get into you know September at October you know that Steve and Benny are gonna say all right you know what let's see what the Freshman can do and the red sh freshman can do and that's where Jordan shawy comes into play at Nick where pton Waters comes in safety where pton seems like a guy who would not going to be afraid to you know lay a couple of guys out so know you know and if you think about just how the injury history has gone at that safety position you know there's going to be guy five and six coming off the bench it's not just GNA be poor guys so I'm still you know again I'm willing to you know couch it and say that you still are going to lean on the veterans but want to give since we talking about the defense gotta give a shout out to couple of young guys who still making some points yeah absolutely because pton did have a pick in sevens today on deont Williams and that's the second straight day with an interception and that's somebody who we talked about him a lot in the spring because he did look really impressive and you know as you mentioned with some of these older guys cam brard is one that we should certainly mention here for a moment because he continues to get work with the first team and that's something we talked about throughout the Summer where that's a guy where we've seen him line up as we said with deshun Lynch all over the field where we see him do a whole lot of different things we s we're seeing him rush off the edge too like the guy is literally everywhere and that's exactly what we wanted to see out of him because you know I remember we had we've had this conversation many times where he was a really really coveted Prospect in the transfer portal and it came down to udub in Michigan and he chose Washington and this feels like why because when we talk about the scheme and we talk about that this can be a really really really good defense it's because they're putting their best players and their best athletes in positions to succeed they're not saying all right you're a safety we need you to play back here on 90% of the snaps and yeah you're going to be here you're going to be there no it's going to be really fluid and we're going to line you up all over the field and one other guy who as long as we're on the secondary we need to give a shout out to that had a really good day was thad's Dixon he had a pick in the one-on-one portion he had a pick in the seven on seven portion and he's somebody who you know when we talk about the quarterback battle where yeah Elijah Jackson has had more success and he's been around the program longer but thaddus Dixon is a guy who has continue to improve especially under John Richardson in the spring and so far in the fall and he's making it a conversation and it just the more we look at it it's going to be a really really deep rotation of corners and that's thanks to a lot of the Improvement we've seen from that it's exactly why I was beaten the drama I know you were too but what what happens when you have actual coaching yeah that simple like that that that's flat out what it is where we knew how good that could be and you could see the potential of him last fall same thing with Elijah where it's hey he played the full season didn't start every single game well I think started actually most games that the end of the season but either way when you looked at you guys okay they're they're there there's like there's they haven't hit the ceiling yet but like what what's the what's the hold up and then Richardson just shows up and it's like oh here like here here's my technique here's my here's my here's my like lessons to you and now we're already seeing it less than a week in about a week in the fall cam okay well plus you know both they made a pretty decent impression in Spring but even still we were talking about over the summer it's like okay which one of the two are you having the answer might be yes like you might I think they're the answer is kind of yes it's like I think honestly that's the best answer because it still doesn't preclude rotating in Jordan Shaw or Jon mcut some of the other guys we've seen at that Nick position but it's like if you're gonna have a couple of versatile safeties use the guy that's got some six1 length and some 6-2 length and you know Elijah Jack Elijah was what that like 41 43 in vertical height a couple years ago so he know he's got it in him and it's just a matter of unlocking it I think Richardson is the perfect coach to do it no absolutely I love everything you're going for there and Lars we got to talk to Jordan powpow and Kiki lot to after practice and we got a fantastic questions from one from one of our insiders about the tight ends in this offense which we'll get to right after a message from our good friends over at game time because game time is an authorized ticket Marketplace of Major League Baseball which makes getting tickets faster and easier prices on the game time app with our locked in Huskies Insider program and if you're interested in it we got a twoe free trial for everybody for all anybody who wants to sign up for that all our everydays down in the description below and he asked us can you talk to us a on the show a little bit more about what the tight end role is going to be in this offense and we said yeah absolutely we wanted to get to it on yesterday's show and then we were like hold on a sec we get to talk to Jordan powpow and KI latu on Thursday so let's hold off let's wait a little bit and let's get to it on Friday so now that we're here Lars let's let's talk a little bit about this this role what are some of the things that you know we've seen and that Jordan Papa told us today about what the the tight end role is going to look like in this offense yeah it's it's a little bit of both because I think they want two specific types of tight ends you have one who's the traditional kind of that sixth in line blocker and one who was more able to flex out on a more consistent basis it's not the say that quitting more can't Flex out side because we saw him do that a couple times last season not a ton but then granted you're talking about Devin C and Jack West over two fifth year veteran still being on the team that's he was he was kind of never he's always that third tight end but even then we see that we saw in the back thr Championship where if he needed to be a guy that you were called upon he could deliver and I we've seen that throughout both spring and fall Camp so far but it was a clear and obvious sign when Jordan powpow said no we needed to go get a receiving tight end and it's so disrespect to not to say that he can't be a receiving tight end but there's a different type of it's a different type when you get into a six7 you want to pronounce the name because I know I Butch K as Jordan told us today yeah he corrected me I was like hey is this the he's like it's lucky but you know he said it again a second time but um I think you know was just kind of hammered home the point of there are things that Quinton can do that are obviously important but they don't have a guy like K KATU on the team at this point which on no I I so I I like where you're going with that I think it's there there's a little bit of a twofold answer there where a lot of it is they like having some of those multiple tight end sets but it's about the compliment just the the complimentary skill where he said yeah we love everything that M Quinn can do as a run blocker and he's a beast and we've seen him get a lot better as a you know as a pass catcher but having a guy like Ki because was one thing that that I asked him where it's how valuable is it to have a guy that can not only play in line but can split out wide into the slot or you know even go out and line up in the X and we love Quint more that's not necessarily where his strengths lie and that's something that we can do with that we've seen them do with Ki latu as well where that that's part of it and having a guy like that who can do all those things and run routes and Be an Effective pass catcher especially you know in the Red Zone where we saw kcki draw a pass interference penalty the other day because you know they're doing an unsurprising thing and throwing him a fade ball and he just kind of got ripped down by whoever was in coverage but I think it goes a little bit beyond that where it's about the depth in the room as well where you know yeah you mentioned Ryan auton you mentioned Charlie corl and Decker de graph or having those guys is great but between them they have two years of experience and you know unfortunately for Ryan he's been injured through a a good part of that and one career catch so having a veteran guy in the room no matter what is a very important thing to do there which is also a big part of this discussion you're not wrong although I do want to say like Owen CS kind of deserves a little bit of a shout out in this regard because know I know I think he's officially listed as a receiver I could be wrong in that but he really just kind of seems like that extra body in the room where you know what if there was a walk on to bet on on offense Owen might have a couple of catches you know a couple of catches I can say that respect because you know we saw him make several plays in the spring and then I think that's almost kind of why like hey you know what can we at least get latu like a veteran in the room and we still have Charlie Crow as you mentioned and um you couple guys coming in 25 so you're not necessarily worri about the long-term Deb I think you were more worried about okay if um Co Charlie Crow or Ryan auton SL deer gra is your second tight end that was going to be the world you were living in and I think as you mentioned that's kind of not necessarily the greatest world to be swimming in so that's why you go out and get a guy like RI where even though he's coming off and injured I think there's no question he's put the injury past him I haven't seen any indication for fall camp that he would be hindered by that in any way now again things could come up he told us as much too right but it's also why that's why you have two guys where let's say KY does get a little banged up you can bring in Decker Ryan whoever and still have Quinton or vice versa if qu if Q gets banged up you still have Kik Ki and I got to get that practice WRA down but when you have Ki and and Decker and all and the rest of the younger guys then it's okay you can you can make that work but you if you have just one or the other it's not going to be as pretty that's kind of what we saw in trink absolutely and so one thing that we've seen ki do a lot of and it's not just him it's just be a safety Bel and it's something where he's you know big enough and strong enough that he's really hard to tackle where we haven't seen him run a lot of routes where he's going deep down field and I feel that that's something as you know they install more of the Playbook on offense and he continues to learn the offense since he's one of the spring transfers that we might see him do a little bit more of because we saw Tanner mclin do it at Arizona and when I when I asked Jordan Palo and I said how important is is it to have a guy that can you know split out and play in the slot and do those things the guy that he immediately brought up and said you know having a guy that can be really versatile the first name that out of his mouth is Kon where he wasn't comparing Ki to Kon in anyway but he was saying having a guy who can do as many different things as possible is extremely valuable to us and at the NFL level and you know as we've heard Jed fish and every single member of this coaching staff say 100 times it's about preparing guys for the NFL it's about preparing them to reach that next level and Lars as you know because you've been on this Beed a lot longer than I have Jordan powpow is one of the best at getting guys to the NFL he's done it for 10 years at this point and has done a fantastic job of it so he understands what it takes to get to that next level and it's just really nice to see him in the fold and saying those things about Ki because he's got the intangibles he's got everything he needs and learning this offense This truly Pro style offense is going to be a great way to help get him there and I think we're going to see him utilized a lot like we've seen a lot of NFL tight ends utilized over the last five 10 years let's call it yeah and if you think about it I remember asking him I don't know if was spring or if it was a media day but just one of the two times where he basically mentioned you know being able to grow under Jed fish and I think we've almost seen the evolution of Jordan Papa where we know you know what you're getting in him as a tight end Coach and developer you know you're going to get a guy who's going to develop at least one to two tight ends every year every other year for the NFL draft on a consistent basis and guys that will actually stick in the league will disley is still playing with the Chargers Drew sample is still in Cincinnati now are they Travis Kelce and and you know Matt leapor and Sam leor yeah Sam leor yeah um Matt leor was an old Brewer back in the day but um either way but the point being Jordan's always been a guy who knows how to get guys to the NFL but developing in Jed's offense I think has been so important for Jordan because it's almost allowed him to say you know what instead of trying to force two into one body like you know I'm not gonna Force Hunter Bryant to be the world's greatest run blocking tight end I'm just gonna split him out wide kind of like with LTI where I I almost wanted to ask him where we didn't get a chance to because you know quick quick quick answers quick quick you know questions that sort of thing but I wanted to ask him like you know with your 67 frame I know Austin fair and shens another former popow tight end there was thought that he could play offensive tackle at one point in his career coming out of gate Harbor I wonder if L would ever floated with that because again at 67 there's things you can do with that there he's bigger than some of the offensive lineman currently at Washington so I I would be curious you know as that six blocker has it always come naturally to you or has it been the opposite where you're kind of like you know I'm not going to use that example you know I split out tight end maybe a tan mlin ask where it's okay I'm going to be more of a receiving Target less so focus on the blocking and we'll bring on the blocking when it comes along but that's why you have Quinton Moore as your lead blocker no I I I I I really think there's a bunch of good points there because the the tight end position is just going to be so interesting in the offense this fall and Lars with that being said thank you as always for being
