editor over with Husky wire thank you for making this your first watch or first listen of the day today's episode is brought to by Monopoly go I admit it I have a competitive side and it is a big fan of Monopoly go the mobile hit Twist on classic Monopoly so join your friends and download Monopoly go now free on the App Store or Google Play Lars Pete Carroll is back at practice today there it wasn't as as we saw a couple offensive lineman the Pocky F now was back at practice in pad today but in a non-c cont Jersey there were a couple other offensive lineman Kaylee tii and I believe it was Royce Cleveland who missed practice so it was a little bit lighter on the team drill stuff lot of seven on seven uh just a whole lot of other work from Special Teams some other things like that so biggest news is that Pete Carroll is back at practice today and unlike Tuesday where you know he just kind of hung out and was was there he got involved he did some coaching spent about 10 minutes after practice addressing the team and you know I mean yeah we we of course we know Brennan Carroll Steve belich that their their sons are are coaching but it doesn't make it any less cool that these guys are cycling through Mont Lake and taking some time to help out and address the team and do all those things right exactly I mean we saw with Pete Carol where when he was on the field today he was talking with both Deon Williams and Will Rogers as the other was you know kind of standing on the sideline right where when Deon Williams was running the offense Will Rogers was talking P Carrol and then Rogers gets in the offense and LeBron Williams getting a couple of notes and again you made a great joke about Pete Carol giving tips to quarterbacks but it's still it's regardless of you know history and things like that wants to hear that I'm not gonna say the I'm just gonna say you made a joke about Pete car and quarterbacks and I'm assuming people will know what what you said um but it's it's still just to your point right where it's that that invaluable experience that you're not going to get like Pete's not going down to USC or out to Oregon or out to Michigan or wherever any of the schools that you want to name well one because the sun doesn't work there but two again he can he's unemployed he can do whatever he wants yet no he's still employed he's got a roll with the Seahawks but it's and but it's again exactly as you said it's and it's not much it kind of is what it is where it's an advisory role but it's still cool because it's a he's staying around and as you said yeah no he he can kind of just do what he wants right exactly same thing with belich right where he's going to other schools but he's spending a lot of time at Washington right IID imagine again probably towards the end of Spring ball well I guess he's got that thing with the draft go going on but I'm assuming he might make one more appearance in Spring ball and then obviously I'm sure he'll be around in Fall Camp because again what even if Bill Bel does Co does television work that doesn't prevent him from doing that from Seattle where he can just be in an office or do what or F I mean Bill's got enough money he probably can do whatever he wants that that's not an object right let let me just say i' I'd like to trade backgrounds with him like I I'm really proud of how this has all come together but having like all the lardi trophies behind him that was pretty cool as well but with that being said because yeah that is that is the biggest story from from a somewhat light practice but there was still a lot that we saw on the field and I feel that the best place to start is with some breaking news and that is Denzel Boston did not make the play the play of the day today and it was in fact Jeremiah Hunter who took a 75 yard touchdown he went up between Curley Reid and pton Waters and just outran a both and it's really nice to see him come along because you know as we all talk on the sidelines it's you it's me it's our buddy Nick from last word on college sports it's Alex from huskys wire it's our buddy Evan as well and and shout out to all those guys and as we're all talking it's one of the big things that we've discussed is as we were talk with Troy fanu another shout out where one of the first things he asked us as we're hanging out with him is hey how's the team look this year like what's it like I've been so busy with the draft I can't keep up with a lot of this stuff and the first things we talked about is the receivers the receivers there there there isn't necessarily going to be much of a fallof and it's thanks to Denzel boss and Jeremiah Hunter obviously there's still going to be a step back but it's not nearly what you might expect from losing romad dun Jaylen McMill and Jaylen pulk some of those guys where seeing Jeremiah Hunter where we've talked about the strength we've talked talked about the body control Kevin Cummings talked about his his intelligence today after practice but seeing the speed and seeing some of that athleticism as well is really exciting because like we talked about the last time we brought him up for an extended period of time it's some udubb people have said man I really wonder what he would have looked like at Cal if he had just some average Quarterback play over the last couple of years so being able to see just what he's going to look like in this this offense is so exciting yeah I was gonna say who was the plumber that was a cal like that was probably the closest thing he had to a serviceable quarterback in his time in Berkeley just and that was we're talking 2022 or maybe even 21 when when plumber was there before he went to Louisville but yeah one thing that's also important to note about Jeremiah it's yeah he's got that big 65 body right 64 65 whatever it is it's ridiculously large bigger than a f price sock but the other thing is he doesn't get slowed down by it right where he's not just that big post up all I can do is do whatever he he showed that separation he showed that he's actually got a couple of gears in there which when you think about how this receiving core is going to work together right where you have Denzel on one side Jeremiah on the other and more likely than not Jiles Jackson up the middle but then all three of those guys do a something a little bit different right child is more more so than both of them but even having just Denzel on one side and Jeremiah on the other you're talking about two different types of receivers that again yeah they're not Roman dunes and jayen pul but there's truly not as much separation as what we would think when you just look at okay well that's also Roman dun two two two twoe starter two and a half year starter Denzel hasn't really gotten that many snaps I mean Kevin Cummings highlighted after practice well what tape can you evaluate Den zelon because he only has nine catches like yeah most of it was blocking but again that's how you see the field right the only way you're seeing the field and starting is well we got to need you to block because we're not taking you off just to have a different set of receivers come in so we can run the play run ball so on on on that note we have to give a shout out to Denzel and and Giles who had a fantastic joint press conference that they that they held after practice on on Thursday and one thing that that Giles kind of said under his breath was violence is always the answer because it was talking about his run blocking someone asked a question about his run blocking G just kind of remarks violence is always the answer and I was like is that is that is that a mantra and they they kind of looked each other started laugh there said no it's just it's just something that we say and it's just it's just because not a coaching montra it's just something that the two of us came up with and and and talk about all the time and it certainly is an answer when you talk about his play style and as he started to become more physical when you talk about Denzel Boston but also when you look at his run blocking and as Kevin [ __ ] said yeah no he he's really aggressive we love the way that he blocks he gets downhill really quickly and with his long arms he's he's able to just do a whole lot for us so I I just thought that that was fantastic and then coupling those two things together was was was just wonderful yeah it really almost is symbolic of their play on the field right where where Denzel does kind of one thing and then Giles is is the anger translator as it were right whereas they both could be a little bit angry right and you know I think Giles without question is I'm GNA say the heartbeat to the offense for the nonobvious reasons right where that that doesn't not mean Giles is going to be your leading receiver get the most targets all that but much like Jacob bandis where Zack dery and Sebastian Valdez one of those two guys mentioned him on defense and saying hey you know what he's the guy that you kind of just need in the room right he's whether he's a starter or coming off the bench or whatever it is that guy has a place on this team and I think seeing the contrast for those two guys is really cool because they're both symbolically guys where we've heard we've known a lot about them we just haven't seen it in their time in Washington for one reason or another right Denzel because he was younger and buried Giles because he didn't have an offensive coordinator in 21 and then when 22 came around got the injury in the thumb that was last 23 right but and that was kind of the other hiccup where G's even acknowledged that was like yeah I was goingon to Red going into the spring like we were just they shut it down all the way and then the injuries happen and things like that and again J they're kind of two perfect examples in the nil era where they could probably go look and see if there's more money elsewhere but it's like why would you when you're getting great coaching and you can maximize your value at Washington right LS with that being said we still got a lot to get to from Thursday's practice but first we got to give a shout out to our good friends over at Monopoly go Lars I've been told I'm a competitive person do you think that's true yeah that's a safe that's safe assessment guaranteed fit is only available to you as customers so Lars what else stood out to you at at Thursday's practice because we didn't necessarily get a good look at a whole bunch of things but I I just we didn't necessarily even get a chance to review a lot of this while we were on the field at practice so i' I'd love to know some of you other thoughts yeah so the one thing I do like about this spring is we kind of get to walk up and down the sideline whereas we're just used to being kind of in a little bit of box there towards the end of practices in the last 30 minutes of practice we were watching some seven on seven11 on 11 depending on which unit was in I'm standing next to UD Pat Chung um friend of the show friend of the program Adam Muhammad makes a massive cut and and and Pat just kind of unravels his his roster he's like who's that guy and I'm like it's a freshman he's like and I'm like yeah yeah exact exactly and so never never a shy moment to where again we talked we did talk about this earlier practice today I believe it was you I believe it was you where we're talk about the running backs and like okay Jonah Jonah no offense Jonah Coleman is your one right Jonah Coleman is your one but beyond that you can kind of get creative with who your two three four and potentially even five fifth running back is right where in reality you're probably not going past your fourth on a consistent basis when the season comes around but Cam Davis working back from an injury um Adam Mohammad mohamed's been really impressive Daniel and exactly you said I'm sorry Daniel and yeah I'm glad you mentioned him because he's somebody where I wouldn't say he's necessarily been over the top impressive but he's certainly stood out in certain regards whether it be running the ball whether it be as a pass catcher and it's it's just it's really nice to see I'm sorry to cut you off please continue no exactly I think that's kind of almost like a carryon from the receiver conversation we're having where aside from Jonah Coleman who is like the Roman Dunes right okay you know what you're getting with Jonah right just move him aside what else are you getting from two through four two through five they all do something a little bit differently but Adam Muhammad I mean again I would love for him to get a little bit bigger but I don't even think he needs to worry about that just to see the field as a freshman probably doesn't play more than four because ideally you don't want to right I mean again PR aggression things like that you know he who should not be named still not with still technically I believe on the roster hasn't formally been dismissed yet yeah no no no think the running back last season that that got we thought we thought we' get only four games ended up getting a few more because of injuries when we mentioned on the portal the believe what Wednesday show or Thursday show about you look when you look at a portal running back where I think you still do but if Adam it almost you could kind of weigh it out where they're they're more likely they're not going to take a portal running back no doubt but I'm just like Adam Muhammad certainly is kind of offsetting that but hey you know what whoever is two through four Adam's kind of making a case for him to be running back two or three depending on how Cam Davis fully comes back from his injury and then if you add somebody in the portal so that running back room with or without again you have Jonah Coleman but with or without Jonah Coleman is starting to look more promising with each practice yeah absolutely that's something where we got a question about that from one of our everydays uh during the the premiere of our Thursday show they're saying I don't I I'm really curious about running backs and a good time where Penny Boon the Louisville Transfer is coming in on a visit where it looks like it's down to Washington I believe Texas A&M for him and it's something where that kind of would fill that third running back role where is that necessarily what he would want I'm I'm not sure but it's something where you know with with somebody else who we had heard was potentially coming in and now it sounds like we'll be looking elsewhere with with this news um it was a similar thing where it's this is somebody who has a lot of carries under their belt over the last couple of years and would they want to take that Reserve role not necessarily but then when you think about Cam Davis where I I think you and I both expect to be fully healthy by the Fall where it's probably going to be that running back threey roll which is why we talk about it that light and it's somebody where Boone I think might fill that role really well but that's why when you talk about Muhammad when you talk about Daniel got where we saw Sam Adams get a couple of touches today where we kind of start getting into that weeds it's okay yeah there's certainly some room for guys to move up and guys to play their way into a bigger role but at the same time that could all be kind of a moot point when we get to I don't know let's just say let's call it halfway through fall camp and you look at some of these guys and you say oh yeah okay yeah we knew Cameron Davis was going to do that and then let's say they they do end up taking uh Penny Boon the the Louisville kid where okay all of a sudden yeah you have a really established top three and Adam Muhammad can red shirt you can find a way to utilize Daniel andata whether it be you know in some kind of Gadget role as a as a slot receiver I think that'd be kind of fun for him and you can just find ways to make sure he gets on the field where we saw how good he was as a kick returner at times last year as well so the the position I think that right now it's just it's a little bit cloudy and part of that is due to the Davis injury but I want to flip sides real quick because one guy we haven't talked about on the show yet that I was really impressed with he got a couple of sacks today and some of the 11 out 11 portions was uh defensive tackle Bryce Butler Junior College transfer who had originally committed J Fish at Arizona really fun player to watch on film where he plays Edge a lot in just kind of that that three four defensive tackle defensive end sort of role and then you know he's kicked inside a little bit with uh with just the the scheme that Steve bel's Canna be running and LS I got to say I've been really impressed with what I've seen from him so far where it's something where he's kind of had to ramp it up a little bit but over the last week or so he's somebody who has been starting the stand out more and more and this doesn't mean that they're not going to take one or possibly even two defensive tackles from the transfer portal but it's something where it's nice piece to have where we know he's got a bunch of Eligibility remaining and it's something where we can watch him progress we watched oenus Davis who's somebody uh we were talking about with a couple of different people over on the sideline today saying yeah you know he didn't look like he might have been ready last year but as he continues to develop because that's like the offensive line defensive tackles position where it might take a little bit longer for some of these guys to progress and he's somebody who I'm just very intrigued to watch at the rest of the spring right it's it's almost kind of what the spring was designed for right where to your point it doesn't Pro progression from the younger players does not preclude them from going into the portal and still filling holes they need to it's just a matter of okay maybe one doesn't go to the 25 class right where you're taking portal guys maybe two upper class portal guys but then you say okay you know what we see what we like with the younger guys so now that they can pick up the scheme and whether they carry that over into fall campus I think is another thing because let's be real how much of the defense do you think they're installing in spring right we have the same well they told us I will say they told us that they said they want 80 to 85% on both sides of the ball install by the end of spring and so what said where do you think they're at right now because I think it's about 4550 I think they're a little over 50 at this point yeah yeah and and so so it's like okay they're they're picking up the scheme so far but then how much retention is there when you go into fall Camp I think that's why to your point they're still going to pick up some Del alignment in the portal it just maybe saves an extra body to where okay maybe we didn't need to go find an extra body in the 25 class we can knock one number down there bring it like now again I I I don't necessarily think that's the case but I'm saying I got I I gotta cut you off here we got some breaking news yeah uh deel TI Tali I think is is how we're going to go with this uh he's committed to Washington that's uh Portland State transfer offensive lineman in the center so we're gonna take a short break here real fast and we're gonna get into this and we're gonna give a shout out to our good friends over at game time because game time is now an authorized tickets Marketplace of Major League Baseball which makes getting tickets even faster and easier price on the game breaking news horn or something to be able to play that because this is huge and a it's a he's a good Center where he adds dep you can play him at guard and we saw him on campus today we saw him walking around at practice we wanted to get into that anyways and now it's just great where we can just one up that just say all right this guy is committed right and I think the one thing to think about this where when you think about the other names who have been mentioned in the portal right not marus I'm talking about just the Interior liby right where BR Branson Hickman Bryson Branson Hickman right from this SMU Center somebody else has been mentioned you can still take him too I'm glad you said that because exactly something like this where he's got multiple years I believe at least a minimum two years of Eligibility left I don't know if he's had a red shirt year but I believe without a doubt he will have two years left to Washington when brenon Carrol said we need five or six offensive alignment that was a pretty clear indicator hey we still need some guys in the depth right where you mentioned uh was it Royce cland or um Cam's kid U yeah Royce c yeah R who had been and the other one that had been taking reps at Center that was also a walk on we've been kind of seeing some fluctuation there where Zack hemings now back to left guard probably more of a tackle guard Prospect anyways but now it's start kind of starting to see the coaching and what we've seen in practice line up with where they're looking at on the offensive line for in terms of portal right where you're not expecting him to come in you're not expecting D'Angelo to come in and start in the fall Camp right but he's an experienced body and actually when you look at take it for what it's worth pff's uh FCS grades where he started 10 played 10 games last season had a 74 pass blocking grade um to me look only gave up one sack so again right up right off the bat you're looking at somebody with over 600 snaps at the center position where if regardless whatever happen it's almost like an insurance policy on whoever else you go get in the portal right whether it's a Hickman whether it's anybody else I'm not gonna throw out more names because Hickman's the only one that's save his no no I'll throw out one more because he has sent an official visit to come visit Washington and that's Coy fou from from Utah and a local kid went to North Creek High School from Edmonds that would be another one well that's that it seems like if they can get one of those two guys that they might step in as starting center exactly but this is the important insurance to come with that be I think it almost confirms that we're not expecting Landon to play this year right were even if he somehow gets four games at the back end he's still red shirting this season so you're you're keeping that prog and it doesn't impact his progression next year right because whether if you got a Hickman right that's your one off boom you're good and then next year you now have um Landon Hatchet probably as your pencil in starter and D'Angelo is your backup center with three or four years of college experience where hey if Landon Maybe isn't ready to go or whatever you have insurance right where you're not reacting you're not putting Michael Watkins who might be a fine Center down the road you're not putting him back there where again this spring we've seen some mixed results there again he's a true freshman not GNA hold that against him right so it's you know all for all intensive purposes these guys are really just getting their feet wet but it's good long-term planning for the coaching staff that we're seeing like Hey we're not just getting one year rentals we're getting guys where we need depth guys but we're getting depth guys before we get the veteran guys because we need to know that we have both right and then on top of that he's somebody who as of right now with the way the room looks right now we're not sure what his eligibility is going to look like in terms of when he can practice but let's say he suits up the next time we're on the field and that's on Saturday for practice if he's able to suit up then would you be surprised if he's the first team Center or the first team Right Guard or the first team left guard because I I certainly wouldn't be at this point and it's somebody where as you said has that experience was certainly effective at the FCS level and to somebody where he might project out as a backup for the time being at in the Big 10 it's something where right now you need quality bodies and it's I don't mean this is a SL for the guys in the room it's just there literally are not enough there we saw eight offensive lineman practice today you need to make sure more guys are in the room so and this is exactly what it is it's quality it's somebody who has experience and you can slot them in there and just say all right for the time being we trust you and we want to see if you can earn a spot for us this fall and that right now for Brenan Carroll that's that's all he can ask for right so just to be clear just for the audience and for my sake as well you were asking that that question of d'angela like if he's able if he were somehow able to practice right because obviously he's not right I to me just just to be clear he's not gonna practice like anybody that they bring into the portal period cannot play right now like they yeah again it would be it would be nice right if you could just sign him and have a rookie Medi camp like the pros do where the oan free agent boom hey if you have OTAs next week he can suit up we're good but that's not the way it works in college I just want to clarify that because again yes if he was able to come in right now next week he's a starting center but in Fall Camp he might be in the two he'll probably be in the two defs I just wouldn't expect him to be the starter but I'm sure he'll get some work with the ones similar to how deon's got some work with the ones where again Deon probably able to play himself into that situation a little bit more realistically than D'Angelo but no matter who you're getting it's also kind again it reaffirms that hey we you still want to get some guys with the state of Washington ties right where he's from beron or he's Auburn Auburn from Au AUB right and so um sorry local Prejudice going on here um but uh yeah so it's always good to take some of those guys but not taking them for the sake of just taking a body right where we saw that in 21 and some other staffs were like hey we're just gonna take you you're never going to play but we said we were going to take a Washington guy and so here you are this is the guy where again you're not hyping we're not hyping him up with oh hey this is your Bonafide guaranteed starter but anybody that has two years of experience with 600 plus starts I don't care what level I mean it's honestly it's getting Sebastian Valdez right where you can still bring in a philed you can still bring in a number of the Louisville Transfer right there's a number of guys you can bring in that are still J low coming in right coming in from the FPS level but that doesn't preclude or limit you from taking an FCS guy that hey you know what if I'd rather have Sebastian and Phillip than just one or the other again obiously right if you're having one or the other you're taking philli no disrespect to Sebastian but I mean it's again when you bring up certain guy a lot no I I know I do but it's the Jordan Perryman thing right we're again separate from his injury in Fall camper it's a case I see what you're saying you look good in the SCS but can you translate that especially in a one year time if you had two or three years sure right Zack dery kind of be that example right where you had last year in the FBS program get get your weight right now this year you're gonna go kill a win people on the field legally but with that being said you still want to have a mixture of those guys because if let's say Sebastian did have a fallback right or wasn't able to get it to speed in the Big 10 it's like o okay we need some insurance and that's really all you're looking for in the spring period is Insurance aside from three or four starters right five six depending on how far we want to go down the rvit hole Yeah that's that that see that's a discussion that I I don't even think we should go down that road but I before we get out of here let's each do one final takeaway and I'm G to go first I like the the the more I think about it the just the more impressed I am with Deon Williams and we saw him take a lot of first team reps today where it felt like it was it was just a matter of getting both those guys behind the actual offensive line where I don't I don't think it was anything more than that but I I just I'm so impressed with everything that he's done and Giles Jackson talked about it after practice and he was just like this this guy do not carry himself like he's a true freshman he's so mature he's so advanced in so many different ways watching him run watching him move and he's he's he's he's a really special player and it's really cool just to see that hype continue because I was I was talking to somebody today where they're asking about both both freshman quarterbacks and just saying hey I really like both these guys I think they both have really high upside and it was just a conversation of yeah they they both certainly do and both of them are really really exciting demand is is just more advanced right now and that's not saying that two or three years down the line that Demarcus Davis might not be the better player of the two of them because he has such a high ceiling but he just has a little bit more developing to do in terms of mechanics in terms of we saw him leave a couple of short passes short today whereas Dean just seems to be a little bit more on the money with some of his deep throws and just some of the things that he does but it's just really exciting to watch both those guys continue to grow and demand especially I I love how high the coaching staff is on him and I I kind of love where I don't know if I'd feel the same way this fall but right now I I kind of love the fact they're just saying go out there and make a play we want to see what you can do we know the offensive line isn't what it's going to be this fall but we believe in you we trust you we want to see more of what you can do and I was I was really excited to see that today what's what's your your final takea away from this practice Yeah I would kind of echo some of the Sim Sage where just because they don't have two two sets of five five offenses all to go first and second team in some of these days the coaching staff is still finding ways to make the most out of what these guys can do where I think it was a seven on seven Z towards the end of practice where um I believe it was Pro Rogers but it could have been Deon threw a touchdown to Decker guy who made a nice grab jimy dordy the quarterback's coach looked over towards the sideline last I'm like what you guys got to do yeah what for what you're working with here like he's like yeah so I think I think the coaching the coaching staff is well where like hey look our install probably for offense might only be 70 right or you can get the walkthrough vers vers of it installed but then seeing how guys actually handle it in 11 on 11 probably maybe closer to 7570 but that still if anything I think that's why deon's getting so much work is they already know Will's you know again four or five year starter in college triball 12,000 plus passing yards in the SCC he'll figure it out right especially when he gets a better offensive line no disrespect intended but facts of the matter when will was able to kind of look and go through his progressions without having to worry about you know okay a red sh freshman and a and a freshman blocking on the left side of my line no disrespect to those two but it's just it's just a different mental approach to that where they're still getting all the valuable mental reps and I think even at tight end for example where that's another one where that's why I wanted to kind of highlight that position towards as we wrap up here is yeah you're still GNA go get a body in that room but seeing the progression in BO Decker de graph and Ryan Aon who's now PR practice for I believe this is what the third second week straight third week straight almost like yeah he's he's participated in every practice right and actually gone through the joke and made some nice catches so it's not like he's just doing like a walkthrough version of it so I think those two guys are giving promise to our argument of you just need another tight end right just somebody to supplement that room because powp power I think is proven hey I'm gonna get the most out of these guys no matter what I have to do whether it's certain packages or whatever but Decker's catch radius man I mean he's shorter than Ryan aen but that catch radius ain't far far from the same all I I couldn't agree with you more and that feels like a great place to wrap this one up LS as always thank you so much being here thank you to all the everyday for tuning in we've got so much more fun stuff coming
