guys can check out Mondays and Thursdays at 6 PM Eastern outside Hard Rock stadium the site of dad a Thursday night football game that went from a Beatdown that we would have enjoyed talking about where Buffalo flexed muscles against the Miami Dolphins team that they have beaten a lot since Josh Allen's become the quarterback there and instead has turned into a really scary conversation about one young star's future after the cussion sustained by Tua tongoa the Dolphins quarterback dad just an incredibly scary moment in this game for Tua who left Thursday nights lost to Buffalo in the third quarter after s suffering his third diagnosed concussion in his NFL career so dad we'll get to the game at some point but obviously this moment stands out as so much bigger than that we heard some pretty Stark thoughts from Tony Gonzalez from a number of the not only former players on that Thursday Night Football set but from former players all across Twitter about what tu's future in football could or should look like so when you saw this moment what went you through your mind about Tua and his football future based on what we know well you think about a football future and you think about life you know as a future um every player is different on how they go about it this this didn't look overly and again there have been cases before where it didn't look overly bad like oh no I mean he went head first into Demar Hamlin's chest it wasn't a head-to-head hit at all so you don't know did it happen there or did it happen when he he went down and the back of his head uh hit the uh hit the turf but he went into the fencing pose again with the stiff arms and something unfortunate we've seen before in the history with Tua and his third diagnosed concussion so yeah that that's going to be the talk uh obviously we'll get to the game it was same old same old Buffalo beating Miami um but you do you do wonder about the future and as I said every every player is different um you know you go you you you look at the time of football that we're in now where we have more knowledge on things and and players take care of their bodies better and there's more awareness of your body and and later in life where when when in my era you know when when you did something to get on the field you were asked don't you care what you're going to be at 50 and you were like no I care about being on the field well guys today care about and I'm not saying this in a bad way it's just like when I was young you didn't wear a seat belt driving you learn that wearing a seat Bel is smart to do you learn over time uh things that that that are the severity of certain situations ball players are normally used to a knee blown out a shoulder blown out an elbow blown out an ankle Twisted you know the concussion is still kind of a a gray area of because you know you you talk to wide receivers and they still say I'd rather get hit High than hit low where I get hit low I blow my knee out I know I'm done for the year I get high I get hit High I have a concussion I'm out for maybe a week or two if it's a bad if it's a concussion and then I'm back playing again you don't see you don't see the immediacy of the concussion and what the effect is you see the immediacy of a shoulder of a knee of an ankle and that's what players focus on but now through through research and and and obviously Gathering more information we know obviously hitting your head repeatedly and it's not just the hits in the game it could be hits in practice which is why practices are lighter now I'm going into a long spiel on where we are basically it's where we are with concussions and where we are with injuries and do you continue to play because that's the talk with Tua does he continue to play and obviously I I I I'm not in his head I'm not in his life I don't know uh anything about his life I know he's married with two kids I know for me I played the first three years before I got married when you're young and you feel Invincible then I got married then I started having you guys and it takes on a different light now the different light can be I was a 10th rounder not making a lot of money so my my thought even was playing through injuries like I did I got to keep playing to make money to support my family Tua has got enough money even though signing that big deal we'll get into injury guarantees and stuff but the players are making more money now where they are and and this is a factor this is a factor it has to be a factor are you set with your family because the the thought of of your kids are young you're you're you haven't been married long and and continuing to play and possibly you know have had head injuries going on through your life or the the cause of it going on through your life is is a scary thought yeah it is and that was kind of what I wanted to ask you we talked about it a bit before the show but I never got to be a player who was uh uh older who was an adult I was done playing football by the time I was 25 and so factoring those kind of things in was something that I never had to consider because you're right when you are young playing this game there's a feeling of invincibility that everybody talks about whether you played at high school whether you played in college or even if you're a guy that made it and played a few years early in the NFL you see so many grizzly injuries over that time that don't have anything to do with head trauma and some that do that are kind of normalized through your course of the sport and then as you get older we hear a lot of guys reflect on this differently and so I'm sure all of that you know could potentially be on the table and listen Tua was very candid and said after 2022 where he had the one concussion that was later then diagnosed as a neck injury that led to the second concussion that was a scary situation for everybody watching he did to uh told I believe the guys at the Dan levard Show when he was talking with him that he had contemplated retirement after that 2022 season but came back obviously had the great year last year and and the financial part of it is difficult dad because for some guys this will be the greatest earning period of their entire life this is the skill set that they've honed since they were young men and this is their best opportunity to provide for them and their family and you're always kind of weighing that earning potential against what it can do to your body and we do become more and more aware of the effects of that as we get older and get more information and players nowadays do have more of that information the first guy I thought of was Luke Keeley dad who was the other player who suffered a concussion that I visibly remember at the hands of a hit that much like this one with Tua didn't on the surface look like the one that we associate with a concussion it's not to say again like you said that other hits can't provide those same levels of you know subconcussive blows but it was just that hit where you saw Luke Keeley tears in his eyes that ultimately was part of what led him to retiring much sooner than his football abilities probably would have had him and ultimately that's going to be tua's decision I can't get inside his head on that and again this is something I can't really relate to as much but he's going to have a lot to think about and whatever he chooses to do is the right decision you mentioned the injury uh the money portion of this Tua just signs that new contract $42 million signing bonus and $167 million guaranteed for injury which means if he's injured and can't play anymore and the Dolphins cut him he would be owed that much money no matter what now there's some discrepancy about if he chooses to walk away dad and is medically cleared but we do have some precedent for this in the past when Andrew Luck decided to retire suddenly before the season the year that he retired he had $212 million left on his contract the Colts chose to honor that and so there is some part that's up to the team and again that's not the whole part of this conversation but I'd imagine a franchise that knew that this was a part of tu's life knows and chose to resign this player to a massive deal if that were to be the choice that he made would go some go to some extent to make him whole he's already been paid out that $42 million signing bonus he would be owed somewhere over $90 million more than that and I'd have to imagine this organization would go about making sure that him and his family are taken care of that would be the hope I I I would as well and we do have the president of Andrew Luck and and and and for those that are saying why you guys talking about money because M money's important you I mean the guy has his whole life his kids are young I mean now he's made a lot of money and and that's that's where again I can't get into his head because as I've always said when we do the thing the analogy of oh if LeBron played in the 80s he wouldn't have been able to do this or that and I and my my response has always been well if he played in the 80s he would have been brought up in the 80s on ' 80s B BB and he would have been just fine so I can't get into tu's head here because I did play in the 80s in the early 90s when concussions were literally if they held up two fingers and you said three they said close enough and you went back in and you didn't think anything of it so I wouldn't think anything of it so that was my mentality and I'm not saying that to be say I'm this tough guy I'm saying that was the mentality of players playing then and again we have more information now to justify if somebody wants to walk away after three concussions your brother-in-law my son-in-law Ben Broner who played tight end for the the Bears uh for four or five years had three concussions and he decided to walk away because he was going to go to med school and he's in med school to be a neurologist he actually wants to help the NFL PA and former players who suffer concussions by learning more about concussion so that that that's a today's players more the mentality so I can't get into tu's head because I played in a different different age a different time where the mentality was different he is and and the money is something I I would have kept playing I know I would have kept playing because I wasn't making a lot of money to support my wife and two kids and then a third kid you know the year after I retired had I kept if I was able to to keep playing so the mentality is different he has made made a lot of money already and I agree with you I think they would do him right maybe not the whole contract but enough to where he is he is already I think going to live pretty comfortably so that that is a part that you value is my family going to be fine and taken care of and there is also the other part like this is the thing that he's trained his entire life for and wanted to do since he was a kid and now finally seems like he's in a situation where between the coaching staff and the organization and their faith and him seemed comfortable enough to go and pursue that so again while I know our reaction is always all going to be man we've now seen this happen multiple times to this guy in a way that is the most jarring visual when you see that fencing posture and his hands go that way and the reaction is always going to be hey man shut it down you've got so much Life to Live especially people that have lived a lot more of their life but everything we just described these are all the factors that can push and pull a bit for a guy who ultimately gets to make this decision for himself and to your point dad the reason I feel better about that now is because this isn't like when the NFL was lying on concussions and players didn't have all the information we do have a lot more of that information now guys are able to make better decisions about this and so that is what Tu a tongue of ioa is going to have in front of him we certainly wish him the best and a speedy recovery he seems you know like a we've gotten to know a lot more of him as the person in public he's been very candid and he seems like a very you know strong willed young person who's got a lot of life to live in front of him so uh uh support whatever decision he made but in the meantime wishing him the speediest recovery that he can possibly get and Dad the Dolphins at some point are going to have to figure out now the football portion of this because we did see a game on the field last night before all this happened and we'll switch gears and talk about that now and this was a game that even before the concussion with Tua which took place in the third quarter he had thrown three interceptions this offense lost both it starting left guard and it's starting left tackling teron Armstead during this game to shoulder injuries and just kind of like we predicted going into this game dad buffalo in part because of that and just in part because of the way these teams were built was able to dominate along the lines of scrimmage in this game they get a blowout Victory where James Cook goes for 11 carries 78 yards two touchdowns Josh Allen doesn't have to put up monster numbers because they were getting the ball in such advantageous field position even with Dad that secondary that we talked about being new in the back end with dear Hamlin and Taylor rap the linebacker core that saw not only Matt Milano go down during the preseason but now during this game they lost to R Bernard to a peck injury and so you had Dorian Williams and Balon Spectre both guys that started the season as backups out there as starters and it did not matter as Ed Oliver Greg rouso and that Bunch up front put their foot down and got after Tua for a lot of that game and created that Havoc yeah Spectre and Demar Hamlin actually tied for the team lead in tackles with 10 um so you're right I mean it this was the lines of scrimmage because you look at the the stats on this game the the Buffalo Bills had 45 plays Miami had 30 more plays they had 75 plays they held the ball did Miami for over 36 minutes Buffalo just for over 23 minutes so but they made hay with the ball James Cook I mean three touchdowns we talked about it yesterday the bet on who would score the first touchdown and and it was James cook and he had three in the first half first time a bill has had that since Thurman Thomas in '92 so you know we talked about uh uh um missing pieces and replacing pieces and boy James Cook has really stepped up in the first couple of weeks uh for sure um help helping this team uh Josh Allen only ran the ball two times he didn't have to put himself In Harm's Way at all uh because the lines of scrimmage were were were making the difference I mean you look at two of the interceptions two of through they were the guys that they acquired after the preseason Grant Duos was the one on the long in route that that that I mean Tua put right in his chest I mean right in his chest it was a great the first interception yeah when Duo just didn't turn his head fast enough it basically bounced off Duo's chest and was intercepted and then the second one to Robbie chosen it looked like a miscommunication and then an overthrow uh for the interception the third he was trying to throw the ball away from the pocket and just it got got picked off and for a pick six but uh this was this was same old again last year Buffalo beat them 48 to nothing and a closer one in the second game 21-4 but but they just they just own them right now and they owned them on the line of scrimmage as you said they did you know you mentioned James cook but that Buffalo Bill's offensive line they've been allowed to play downhill really since Joe Brady took over last season now you know inside Zone Duo it's a lot of those big heavy Gap runs that let them lean on that Miami defensive front and man it was a hot nasty night down there like it was the kind of night Taylor Made for that sort of Brute Force attack as opposed to Miami that even when their offensive line was healthy dad motioned at the highest rate we've seen it the season so far like has to do a lot of that stuff around the situation up front because we know that offensive line is not considered one of the strengths of the team you were down rahem most poed in this game Devon Anan had over 22 Touches for the first time in his career but at the end of the day the reason I picked Buffalo at the start of this season showed up last night is because they can make football really simple they handed the ball on offense to off to James Cook and on defense they were able to get pressure with just four they were one of the best in the NFL last year in terms of sacks I believe they the third highest number of sacks in the League last year just rushing four pass rushers and Ed Oliver Greg rouso Miller looking resurgent last night in his role as the speed rusher off the edge if they can keep doing that Dad football is really simple for buffalo in a way that translates to a good long season run two win uh two wins two and0 for for Josh Allen on the bills Josh Allen threw it 23 times against Arizona and 19 times uh last night against Miami when you can do that don't have to throw a ball lock and control the ball uh control it running and score at almost at will uh it's it's going to going to look out well for you big win for buffalo in the NFL we'll see who's got big wins coming up in this college football slate this weekend we're feeling cheesy this morning on Gojo and [Music] gock e e e e [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] welcome back to Gojo and gock in about 15 minutes Jessica smana our buddy from the Dan levitar show going to join us Emerson she was with you guys in the pregame PowerUp last night right was she outside of Hardrock reporting live for y'all yeah she was she was talking about how uh basically everything on her body was covered in sweat her leg pits up to uh the Northern Territory everything was Dripping because of how disgustingly hot it was in Miami last night can I just say to that point dad seeing one it's one thing Mike McDaniel's a skinny guy the head coach wearing a sweatshirt on the sideline in that Miami Heat which you spent your last year in the NFL in Miami it was a miserable one in a lot of ways but you can appreciate that heat and then Andrew Whitworth former NFL offensive tackle part of that Thursday night desk wearing the hoodie underneath the bomber jacket the gray bomber jacket in sweats on the sideline in Miami and I saw not a pit stain in sight I don't know what he's made of he's always been built different but that might be the pure example I I'm amazed that he didn't change his wardrobe because that's his look the the hoodie under the under the jacket and and he stayed with us looking because there is nothing worse than going through pregame and being soaking wet uh which is exactly what happens in M Miami it is it is just brutal uh the humidity that that gets you but yeah so kudos to him you're right no pit stains at all because then you you also risk um cramping but you you're sweating that much you got to continue to hydrate you yeah you have to know I mean you have to know going into that and it's not just drinking before the game it's drinking during the week water and and and the right electrolytes all week so so that helps with not non cramping too late yes so uh we're glad she survived that last night I've already been in contact with Jess this morning so she managed to beat the heat last night let's see who can beat the Heat this weekend in college football we'll have our NFL preview coming up in hour number two but right now it's time for our college football weekend preview it is brought to you by the fine folks at cheit this college football season we're feeling the cheesiest with cheit love that feels great heading into the weekend I'm starving right now and some white cheddar grooves would actually be Mana from Heaven if they somehow appeared in my hotel room if someone wants to dash that my way without knowing my location but Dad interesting slate coming up this weekend for college football as we're starting to get into some conference play for certain teams still some compelling out conference matchups as well as you look at tonight we got Arizona at Kansas which oddly enough as you reminded me of before uh today dad not a conference game right now despite the fact that they are both now in the Big 12 Arizona comes up comes over with the group of Pack 12 teams this year you actually said there's an incredible circumstance that's led to this technically being a non-con game for both Big 12 teams so they scheduled this game before Arizona moved over to the Big 12 so this was just supposed to be a non-conference pack 12 Big 12 game uh and then then the the change happened and Arizona came to the to the Big 12 and Nei it happened so late that neither could find another opponent so because of that and so they didn't have an a one more conference game than everybody else they are treating this as a non-conference game so that I mean it's a wild circumstance but let's let's you know admit that college landscape has been pretty wild uh with the changes in the conferences but yes since they scheduled before the conference shift they couldn't get new opponents so so they would not have one more extra for tiebreaking reasons and all that extra uh uh conference game this is a non-conference battle between two same conference foes have fun with that yeah exactly and one that's going to feature some incredible quarterback play Avery Johnson on the Kansas State Side still looking to kind of get going but you know no Fe on that side taroa McMillan has been as advertised at wide receiver for that Arizona team Kansas State uh a seven-point favorite here at H dad probably a little Rich for my blood on that front especially knowing that potent quarterback receiver combo that's already shown plenty of good evidence that they're the same this season on Arizona side yeah 10 AOW though in the second game against Northern Arizona only had two catches had 10 for over 300 yards in the first game both these teams Str struggled in their second games um Ken State I mean K State was down 10 to2 Lane and came back and won that game and Arizona outlasted Northern Arizona 22 to10 they were and and Arizona was 0 for 10 on third Downs uh they were had 10 penalties for 95 yards so both teams kind of did the what we were hoping our Alma would do uh against a lesser opponent just get the win and move on just get the win and move on and that's what these two teams did so that's why they're ranked that's why they're 2 and 0 you're right about Avery Johnson the Kansas State quarterback has hasn't quite got it just going just yet um so we'll see if if if he can get it going but certainly enough Talent on both these teams all right let's look ahead of the westler weekend slate that's our Friday night game which is exciting but Dad uh you mentioned teams that have survived in advance so far let's talk about the Oregon Ducks ninth ranked Ducks going on the road their first road test the season and it is a rivalry game Oregon State a game that by the way has not been played in September this game has been played for now this will be the 128th time the game has been played and they have never played in September so never played this early and at a point in the season where Dad Oregon offensively Dylan Gabriel has the kind of completion percentage numbers we've been used to seeing in this offense at 84.3% of his passes good for third in the nation which is insane to say out loud but against idigo against Boise State you'd kind of expect that what you wouldn't expect is that these have been narrow victories for the Ducks and that along the lines of scrimmage they've been pushed around a little more than expected so Dad 16 and a half Point favorites on the road do you think Oregon can finally get their tires to catch and start looking like the team we expected I I I I think we keep waiting for that but I don't know if this early in the season we can expect that dramatic of an improvement over the first two weeks where they have been ah you know against Boise State Dylan Gabriel was sacked four times times the old line as you mentioned the line of skirmish the old line for Oregon hasn't really shown that improvement from week one to week two so it being week three and and you know the a rivalry game I I'm going to say that this is a little bit too rich the the 16 and a half is a little too rich for my blood yeah I want to say that Oregon's going to get it done I pick them to do a lot of great things but to your point rivalry games are weird it being the first road test is weird while I think they're going to win this game 16 and a half is a lot of points man and Oregon State the only team in the country with two running backs that average in the top 20 in yards per game they got two guys that are averaging over a 100 yards a game through their first two wins against Idaho State and San Diego State and we know that's given orgon a little bit of trouble they're just Fresh Off The Ashton Genty experience against Boise State so I would probably take Oregon State plus the 16 and a half in this one until Oregon proves to me that they can put their foot down on the gas the o line might be more person at this point than it is scheme or anything that's changed and I don't know how much fixing they're going to do of that in a week in a rivalry game that again is a different spot and we'll see how all of those emotions that are much more prevalent in college football factor into this one Dad let's head to the only ranked matchup that we've seen of the weekend really Boston College on the road against six ranked Missouri BC checking in at 24th in the polls after a couple of nice early season wins for them Eli drinkwitz who we've had on this program has Missouri for the second second straight year in contention of the SEC all the way up to number six in the rankings dad haven't really had to put their foot down fully on the gas on offense either has this team how do you like them at home against BC I mean I I I think I like Missouri I mean they haven't given up what a point in two games they they're though though Boston College has been surprising and and you got a hell of a coach in Bill O'Brien uh Bill O'Brien against Eli drinkwitz a nice matchup of coaches but I I just think Missouri is is living up Missouri is is not struggling the way we're seeing some of the other top teams struggle they are taking care of their business so I what what was the line on this I I I I didn't Missouri's a 16-point favorite on draftking sports book oh wow that's another big number that that's another big I don't I don't know if Missouri's at home though um give that number I was going to say I don't know if I can either dad that's a lot of points Boston College averaging around what 285 rushing yards a game put it on Florida State in that regard and remember this is a Missouri defense that lost their coordinator a number of high-profile draft picks especially along the lines of scrimmage there while offensively Luther Burton currently currently and a guy that's in contention for some people's pick we talked about tedar Ro and McMillan in Arizona Luther Burton's another guy that has a legitimate claim in some people's mind of the title of best wide receiver in college football and right now he's the third leading receiver on Missouri's team that connection with him and Brady cook hasn't really gotten going yet and so you combine all those things and some of the newness for Boston College still I I think for some people you got a couple of games of tape on them now but Bill O'Brien getting back to this level of football still knew enough in BC's offensive line again was able to go out against The Talented group in Florida State and move them around that was not an accident that was not a bunch of stuff where you know Thomas castalanos the quarterback had to go play herob ball they just got downhill and played within themselves on that offense so that's going to be the thing castalanos has only thrown the ball 20 what 26 times in two games he's has six touchdowns and no interceptions but the game hasn't been put on his shoulders so because they've run the ball so effectively and when they run the ball you can control the clock but if they find themselves down to Missouri a couple of St scores and they have to throw the ball then then how will Boston College react to that a team that's used to running it all right so what did you say for your pick are you taking BC in the points or you going with Missouri on this yeah yeah I'm taking BC in the points too many points I agree 16 16's a lot there I'll go Eagles as well so both of us taking the points in the early couple of matchups here this is an interesting test D kayin dor I would argue the biggest test early on in his Alabama Career this season Alabama going on the road against Wisconsin haven't had an SEC foe come to Camp Randall since 1971 and Dad don't look now the final score a little bit misleading with Alabama last week they rattled off three touchdowns in the final six minutes to pull away from a USF team that you know has a a competent quarterback that some NFL folks are excited about the o line for Alabama had nine penalties in this last game so they are also 16-point favorites on the road in this one against a Wisconsin team that still can't quite figure out fil Longo's offense there what do you like here between the tide and the Badgers yeah I mean Wisconsin's offense is 101st uh in yards per play after two weeks they they beat uh FCS South Dakota uh 2317 again it was one of those just get the win and move on which they did so I it's tough to call them out when so many other big schools just barely beat little schools to just move on but um this another big number but I I think I might like Alabama in this big numbered game I I I just kon's offense is just not doing it for me no I I'd agree I I'd take Alabama in this one I think defensively for them we mentioned last week with USF they held Byron Brown their quarterback to 13 of 35 for 103 yards and while Tyler van djk and Phil Longo could eventually get this going it's just been such a weird Personnel fit at a place where we know Wisconsin for years under Paul Chris spent their time beefing up the lines running downhill with big backs and now is trying to run Phil Longo's version of the air raid and it just hasn't seemed to click yet and I don't think this Alabama defense who also I think understands the stakes of the game here right now if you're kayin dbor and Company this is one of the ones people circled quick and said hey if you flirt with disaster in this game this is the kind of stuff that gets the locals riled up in a way that you're probably not going to like so I I think for Jaylen milro this Alabama offense you know Kaden Proctor their uh left tackle who was a freshman starter for them last year left for Iowa then came back to Alabama been dealing with an injury the first couple of weeks still unsure on his status in this one but I'm going to say they get it cleaned up this week they go on the road and they get a big time win for kayin dbor as they maintain their place in the playoff race DB we'll get to this last one real quick Texas A&M at Florida Florida's a three-point home dog in this one despite Texas A&M not having one a game on the road in three years and Billy Napier says he's going to play both quarterbacks Graham Merz who missed last week due to the concussion suffered against Miami in game one going to get the start but they'll play DJ lway their festar freshman who went out and lit it up against Samford but we'll see what happens there do you agree with the two quarterback thing Dad where are you at on that no I've never been a two quarterback guy I think it's two you have two quarterbacks you don't have one but but the the JD lagway the true freshman and the monsterized kid he is he is something to watch I I'm I'm looking forward to watching his future if it's at Florida at Florida or wherever he's going to go but this one may be decided on the ground Texas A&M run defense has been shaky was shaky in that first game certainly against Notre Dame Florida's Montreal Johnson may have some room to run so I look at this as possibly a game controlled On The Ground by Florida you know Texas saying this this I just don't trust Florida I just I just don't trust them um so I think I'm taking Texas A&M I think I'm taking Florida Plus three Connor Wegman sec's got injury reports now showing up as questionable on the latest one we'll check in on that more with Jess Matana next on Gojo and go [Music] it e e e e [Music] [Applause] [Applause] welcome back to go Jo go Mike Go Jr Mike Go Senor Emerson lsia and now going out to be joined by our friend Jessica smana you can catch her down at the Dan levitar show you could see her out sweating her whole ass off outside of hard rock last night Jess if you fully recovered from that mess that is a great way of saying it yes I did in fact sweat my whole ass off it was very toasty down here last night at the Dolphins Bills game did you end up going into that Jess were you just outside the stadium how did that go for you guys I know doing hits for Emerson and them on the pregame power up but did you actually stick around for any of that game no I didn't get to stick around I was just there for for all the pregame festivities but man that ended up being kind of a brutal game for Miami oh my God I I I thought it was bad enough going into the third quarter with how badly Miami's offense was playing and then Tua of course getting that concussion was terrible what's uh what What's you're getting everybody's thought your thought on Tu and the concussion and just the timeline of it and and his future yeah I mean I think just my initial reaction is just how bad I feel for him like he's a player that I've really enjoyed watching since his college days and he's obviously had such terrible uh luck I guess you could say with head injuries and with other injuries and I I really just feel bad for the guy and I hope that he he knows that fans are you know all hoping that he recovers and takes the time that he needs away from football right now so I mean it was just awful to see that and you you obviously never want see that in a football game nope and we've heard all the right stuff from Mike McDaniel and this Dolphins organization about what they're going to prioritize with Tua right now being the player the person and Mike seems like the right coach to handle this the right way going forward hopefully after everything we've seen with Tua and this organization so uh Jess I've tried to now put it off for as long as I can with that conversation about the NFL uh how you feeling Bud Notre Dame football really lobbed us a grenade last week they're going on the road to Purdue this weekend are are you feeling any more hopeful about our chances as a big road favorite against Purdue this weekend let me start with this I heard you pick Texas A&M over Florida in the last segment and I have to say I don't I don't feel confident about Texas A&M they have a Transit of loss to Northern Illinois that's pretty bad guys I don't know how you can pick them in anything going forward um no but in all seriousness Mike I think and in some ways uh Saturday felt like uh a warm embrace from from an old friend it felt like a Notre Dame of of years past maybe um but yeah it wasal and exactly I didn't want to say it uh and I did I did think about your Notre Dame last night watching Texas State uh led by their head coach uh GJ Kenny who beat Notre Dame when he was the quarterback for Tulsa back back in your day um so that was a nice little blast from the past but uh yeah I I don't feel very confident I'm actually very concerned about what we have heard and haven't heard about Riley Leonard's Health if he's able to do what he there's a fire alarm going off here they don't want me to talk about Notre Dame guys this is not going well wow you see wow I said Riley Leonard and like flashing lights went off uh but no I I'm worried if he can't run the ball if they're not going to use him to his full abilities and and running the football um that is a huge part of his skill set and why I think Notre Dame brought him to campus so I'm I'm very curious if he's 100% it didn't seem like he was in the latter half of the game against Northern Illinois um just based on what plays they were giving him obviously he threw some a horrible interception in that game um at the same time like I I don't really know what the coaching staff's confidence is in the rest of the quarterback room and if they feel like someone has shown them that they have taken that step ahead of Riley Leonard so I I fully anticipate they're going to start Leonard they said they're going to start Leonard um maybe he just had a bad game and it's not injury related at all but I I'm definitely worried about that non throwing shoulder yeah I'm definitely definitely you know this is a team where you don't talk about playoffs anymore you talk about one week at a time and getting getting back kind of in the groove uh like they did against at least getting the win against Texas A&M so before before we get to what's going on in the Pack 12 just your your overall thoughts of the top of the the college um land now landscape now and how many teams you think are are viable Champs oh that's a great question you know after week two we've really only seen um a couple of the top teams play like a legit FBS opponent so I still feel really good about Georgia I feel pretty good about Ohio State um I thought Texas looked amazing last week against Michigan and I think you know maybe I would end the list there of like my my top three but I'm not ruling Alabama out of anything like Alabama in a lot of ways had a similar uh start to their game as Notre Dame but then in the fourth quarter they were actually able to show why they're Alabama and just you know beat the breaks off of USF in one quarter and definitively won that game so I guess I'd put Alabama up there with like maybe a little asterisk because you know new head coach you always are curious what you're going to get later in the season when conference play starts um but yeah I think I think if you asked me at the beginning of last season I would have also said those four teams too so there there you go 12 team playoff or not the good teams are still really good yeah I was going to say the more things change the more they stay the same because we always said this college football playoff expansion wasn't really going to change the teams that were good now for Alabama they did the one thing that we always thought might give people a chance which was Nick Savin retired but kayin dor comes over as an incredibly capable coach and so now we've got that same situation there so uh Jess in terms of a little bit of different can I interest you in a little Pack 12 Revival that news breaking late the other night where now all of a sudden the remnants of the Pack 12 Washington State and Oregon State announced that going to scoop up four of the mountain West's best in Boise State Fresno State um Colorado State and I forget why I'm blanking on the other one right now San Diego State and just I'm currently out at Fresno right now I'm calling the New Mexico State Fresno State game tomorrow night so as you can imagine our open is going to be a very interesting place talking about this what was your reaction when you saw this break the other night or maybe in the morning I think my initial reaction was like wow they're actually going to pull this off like it it seemed like that was the game plan from Oregon State and Washington state after they decided to stick with the Pack 12 and not move to the Mountain West permanently um so I think great for the Pack 12 obviously not great for the Mountain West because now there's eight teams left in the Mountain West that don't know if you know some of them may get poached to the to the Pack 12 there's two more spots for the Pack 12 to fill for them to be uh you know FBS conference uh I think you need eight teams so um yes there's obviously going to be more uh ramifications from this that we haven't seen yet and some of them I've seen people say that they want uh the Pack 12 to absorb a couple of the top FCS teams which obviously great for FBS football would stink for FCS football because those are some pretty stored programs that have had a lot of success there but obviously there's more money in the Pack 12 it's an iconic brand and it's some it's a conference that quite frankly is just it's worth more on the market even though it was uh very mismanaged for the past decade and a half by leadership there so like good and bad I think I I've I've been frustrated to see the the Big 10 try to co-op the Pack 12 after dark uh or uh the last couple weeks and I I want the Pack 12 to I don't know if they can trademark that or or whatever but tell the Big 10 to back off the Pack 12 is not going anywhere we are still going to have weird wacky uh late at night Pack 12 Football in 2026 well I I hope for the Mountain West uh uh concern for them that more teams don't leave because then they would not have the minimum eight teams because now they're down to eight and hopefully more won't leave other teams that are being talked about because you guys are right the the Pack 12 needs two more they need a minimum of eight there's talk of Tain Memphis UNLV uh going in but how about this how about Stanford and Cal one year in the ACC going back to the Pack 12 I mean it would be phenomenal I I think it would be great for for the school for from the travel especially from the non-football sports but even the football travel you're used to traveling a lot but nonf football to have Stanford and Cal go back to the Pack 12 from a geographic standpoint I think that a lot of people are saying like the Cal Stanford ACC thing doesn't make sense they should go back to the Pack 12 but from a financial standpoint I don't even know if that's really possible or on the table right now plus I've heard a lot of you know college football reporters talk about how K and Stanford like the uh institutional like uh academic standing of the other ACC schools and they don't want to go back to a Pack 12 with schools that they believe that they have a a higher standing of like we we know that this is a factor for uh big universities in choosing a conference and like the academic rigor and yada y y so I don't know if it's possible I don't know if they are even interested in that I think it's it's probably likely that they're happy um staying in the ACC for now and I've also I I have been really impressed with Cal Twitter over the last few days I don't know if you guys have been you've ended up on the calgar rithm go Gojo but they are so okay they beat Auburn last weekend and like they have just been going crazy on Twitter and they they don't seem like they want to go back to the Pack 12 they're like we've gotten more exposure in the ACC in two weeks than we've ever gotten in the Pack 12 which I don't know if that's true or not uh because there there have been a couple you know pretty big time athletes that played for Cal before but regardless uh they seem pretty happy I don't know it just seems like they're not going back they don't want to look back did yeah did you really ask yeah yeah did you really ask if I was up on the calgarth did you really ask if I was you should be on the it's very it's good stuff I Mike I think you would enjoy it I'll send you some tweets okay yeah I need to I need to get myself involved in this I've seen people talking about it but I have not been served members of Cal Twitter just yet and I guess that's what happens when you beat Hugh freeza's Auburn like you get upgraded to this immediate class of Twitter that everyone else wants to be involved in but I I uh I'm going to have to check this out now I love weird college football Twitter and it sounds like this hasn't crossed over into toxic college football Twitter yet no it's like it's pretty it's pretty fun it's a lot of I would say [ __ ] posting it's a lot of [ __ ] posting their mascot um there was a lot of you know pictures of Auburn's Stadium Jordan hair stadium that said property of antifa there was a lot of that sort of ribbing back and forth with h free over the the woke mine virus but um I I highly recommend it they seem very amped up right now they think they're getting game day in a couple weeks if they keep winning so it's a fun place to be hey I mean listen game day at LSU South Carolina which wouldn't have necessarily jumped off the page me a week ago now obviously South Carolina baptized Kentucky last week and gets an LSU team coming to town that's only you know got the one loss against USC at the start of the season but still looks like they're confident enough offensively so stranger things have happened and I think you're right Jess overall about uh Cal and Stanford and the ACC most notably too because this seems like a precedent issue if you're the ACC while it'd be fun for all of us to say hey let's do a doover and just give them back to the Pack 12 you got Florida State and Clemson sitting there looking at you like you sure you want to do that bud you want to go ahead and light that candle we can do this and now all of a sudden they get the chance to get out so that seems like lawyers and to your Point University presidents making this decision like that academic portion of it pops up all the time because as we constantly have to remind people these are University presidents that are actually the ones governing a lot of the change around college football and they care about nerd stuff a lot more than the rest of us do yeah and like uh it's the whole athletic department right it's not just college football like if we did have sort of like how Notre Dame has its own uh you know conference agreement with college football that's separate from the rest of the athletic department then I think you could make these sort of like geographical uh alliances but we don't really have that right now it's it's you know if you want to be in a conference the whole school has to join all of the teams so so which is it though for you know we sit there and talk about the Pack 12 and their values of academics uh of staying in the ACC when let's be H come on it's it's about the money they're making more money in the ACC student athletes be damned they don't care about the student athlete because they're making them travel from one Coast to the other to play volleyball uh or soccer uh and and so I I'm I'm sorry I'm not buying the academic part that it's a better academic standing in the ACC it's a bigger fraking paycheck we know it's all run by money I'm not going to argue with you there Mike yeah thank you I mean it it is but we know that stuff is the stuff that they can at least slap the sticker on it and uh go there and make it happen uh Jess this has been a lot of fun I'm really hoping that we don't have to exchange any more incredibly frustrated wellness check text messages this weekend after Purdue I've played some weird hairy games against Purdue that Stadium I I don't have a lot of good things to say about the stadium or their drums so I'm just going to keep them to myself so as not to get aggregated in case this goes wrong I hate their stupid drums so much Mike I I I'm really nervous they have a good defense they have a a very a head coach with a good track record with defenses and Notre Dame's biggest issue as we know the offense scoring points I am nervous they're not going to do very much of that against Purdue but look we'll see if anyone out there like hacks into our phones and reads how depressing our text messages back and forth over the last week have been they would be very alarmed um but let's hope that never happens fingers crossed thanks Betty we'll talk to you soon thanks Jess oh God I can't believe is an absolute mess in sou in our mentions right now an absolute mess God help us both coming up next we'll get you set for the NFL this weekend here on Gojo and [Music] gool e e e e [Music] [Applause] welcome back to Gojo with gock Mike gock Jr here let's get right into it Kansas State minus 7 against Arizona tonight is our cash it or trash it game of the 1800 Gambler agent eligibility restrictions apply void where prohibited see draftkings.com for details we mentioned Arizona going on the road here uh Noah faf tedar Roa McMillan two electric Playmakers I like them to cover the spread for that reason Avery Johnson in this Kansas State offense new coordinator still trying to get it figured out I think the wild cats in a very tight Big 12 keep it moving we'll have Jordan brener stopped by with more great picks later in the show here on Gojo and [Music] gock e e e e he [Applause] [Applause] welcome back to Gojo and gock hour number two here Mike gock Jr Mike gock Senor and Emerson latsia in Boston I am out in Fresno California which is apparently now Pack 12 territory uh getting ready for New Mexico state on the road against the Fresno State Bulldogs that are one of the four teams getting pulled into the former pack two now pack six looking to become pack eight at some point during that two-year grace period there so excited to be calling this game on True TV who's got the Mountain West uh Turner Sports does right now uh very excited for that one so Me JB long Bridget Howard going to be on the call for that coming up 10:30 p.m. Eastern on Saturday night but Dad in the meantime with that we still have plenty of NFL football to talk about here we know the big story coming off last night we already into week two Thursday Night Football last night the bills get a monster win over the Miami Dolphins they go out there and get it done to the tune of 31 to10 but the big story of the night Tu a Tong of ioa the dolphin Star Quarterback recently signed to that monster extension leaves in the third quarter after scrambling in the red zone and actually delivering a hit onto Bill safety dear Hamlin with another concussion his third diagnosed concussion since 2022 and uh we heard from Mike McDaniel as head coach he said we're concerned about Tua getting the proper medical care right now not at all about the timeline for this player going forward so certainly thoughts and prayers with him dad but it seems like this is someone Miami is going to have to get comfortable not having for at least quite some time yeah and that there there's there's the Tua side in the football side from the football side they got smoked by Buffalo yet again uh it's their first loss of the Season how much time will they spend without Tua Skyler Thompson is the guy that comes in Tim Bole was on the practice squad so do they go out and try and get another quarterback so there's the team aspect of trying to you know continue your season without your starting quarterback and then there's there's Tua and Tua is going to have to be the all all former players are are kind of chiming in on if he should keep playing if he should not keep playing my my thought is it's going to be up to him I mean I I I'm not in his shoes I'm not in his life um I don't know what his thought process is uh but he he will have time certainly to think about it he will miss some time and then being his third concussion you you start to take stock in what's important your your loyalty to the team uh that you're the leader of that this gave you a lot of money obviously you have a wife and two kids there's the family side of it so there's some decision making that has to go on with Tua yep a lot that has to get weighed right now but in the meantime he's going to be in the NFL's concussion protocol he's going to be working through that and you know once he gets cleared from that then we'll start to ask some more of those existential questions but you're right ultimately this comes down to him what he's comfortable with with his body going forward knowing that now players have more information than they did back when the NFL was keeping a lot of that stuff under wraps it's why I can feel a little bit better if Tua does decide to make the decision to come back because he fully understands what's going on or I shouldn't say fully we're always learning new stuff about this but we have a lot better understanding of that going forward and so as much as we can all be concerned and want to take him off the field want to take the helmet away from the player like we see them do so often now that's ultimately got to be a thing that he comes to we've seen guys from the past and especially recently more comfortable doing that younger than ever because of the money these guys make on their first contracts because of the money that's available in the second contract that I'm sure Tua could still keep some of if he decides to walk away but that is going to continue to be a story for another day so again we wish the best of Tua in his recovery and we understand and support any decision that that guy makes about his football future Emerson this has been obviously you know a heavy topic for the morning you're a happy guy we've got a weekend full of football coming up can you make us happy about this weekend in football can you help us kind of get ready for that okay uh this may help you feel happy if you're watching at home right now one of the best rivalries in the NFL here Gojo will be renewed this weekend we're talking the Bengals we're talking the Chiefs although if you look at the odds on the DK sports book odds makers are suggesting this rivalry is over these players hate each other there's been some incredible quotes coming out of both camps this week Bengals 3- one against the Chiefs in their last four games against Kansas City here all right is this your game of the week though Gojo you tell me I think so you mentioned Kansas City a six-point favorite at home now and Dad I have been amazed at the confidence of this Bengals team coming off the most shocking week one loss to the Patriots here you've got cam Taylor briter defensive back who went asked about Xavier worthy the Chiefs rookie wide receiver said he's fast and that's about it he's like 100 something pounds if you get hands on him you might be able to disrupt him you had Jamar Chase come out with the quote on Thursday where he said quote everybody knows that bro it's not if we are the team to beat in the AFC and We Know It And we got to play like it too so Dad are you surprised at this Bengals team and the way that they're coming out swinging going up against the Chiefs team that just had a pretty phenomenal showing in week one opening night I I'm I'm surprised as a as someone who is not used to talking in a in a locker room like that but I'm not surprised in today's NFL or today's sporting world that there are players that that are spouting off it's amazing Xavier worthy I mean two t three touches and two touchdowns yeah it's all great and would say you know he's he's small and you get your hands on him but getting your hands on him is the problem I mean he ran for two for two touchdowns so I I and then say you're the team to beat after just a horrible and he said I know we have to play like that if they listen if they play to their capabilities they're a hell of a lot better than the loss to New England but you are what your your record says you are right now and you are what the way you're playing right now uh and you know T Higgins uh still you know most likely on the Shelf uh they didn't have a running game I don't think they tried to run the ball enough they didn't have a passing game they put up 10 points against a very good New England defense and they got run on they got run on by a team that the only way they could do anything is to get is to run the ball and and and they got smoked so I would expect them to play better but man the Chiefs uh I just now the Chiefs and the Baltimore had an excellent game it was a matter of toes uh that decided that game but I just think the Chiefs have way too much offensively and defensively for Cincinnati at this point I think if you could bottle and sell the collective confidence and energy from wide receivers and defensive backs you could power this earth into the coming Generations from Millennia it is the most potent drug on planet Earth I appreciate it Dad because I'm with you it is just so far outside my purview to walk around with that much confidence I get why Jamar Chase has it for cam Taylor Brit this Chiefs team is petty as hell and not only do I think they're going to win and think they're going to cover but I was looking on the sports book last night Xavier worthy alternate receiving totals you can get Xavier you're worthy at over 50 receiving yards at plus money at plus 135 Sign Sealed and Delivered if you don't think Pat Mahomes and Andy Reid are going to scheme up a way to get him as many shots as possible after this best believe they are going to make that happen and try and rub their Nos and I have no doubt because this one has developed into somewhat of a rivalry and the Bengals have been one of the teams that look to have had the chief's number in an era where very few can lay claim to that but I I'm with you I think the Chiefs running game too potent and unlike new England they have places like Rashid rice Xavier worthy Travis Kelce that they can go with the ball off that so I'm going to pick the Chiefs minus six in this game dad are you on board with that uh yes I am I where the where the Bengals are now I think they will get better but where they are now I'm I'm definitely taking the Chiefs Chiefs and giving the points all right Dad let's move on Justin fields and the Pittsburgh Steelers going to be at the Denver Broncos they're two and a half Point Road favorites here it sounds like we're not going to get the Russell Wilson Revenge game that we were hoping for going back to Denver after his couple years stint there he said I'm just trying to be smart after Thursday's practice got to do a lot of work today on the field and everything else throwing and all that just trying to be smart but Dad I I I think combine that calf injury with Justin Fields who does give this offense a dynamic threat rushing wise that they're kind of going to need against this Denver Broncos defensive front who last week you looked at what they were able to do against a Seahawks team that's got some things on the offensive line that outside of Charles cross I think they need to work out but we've talked about Baron Browning Jonathan Cooper on that other side looked pretty potent off the edge at rusher and so while this Steelers offensive line still working itself out having a quarterback who can use his legs and move around the way Justin Fields can GNA be huge for this team in the early going oh I I think without question I think that the offensive line has been a question mark for Pittsburgh so you need a more mobile quarterback and that's certainly what Justin Fields is I look for the good matchup of Patrick ceran against George Pickins uh that's kind of the headlining matchup I think that'll that'll be good depending on if Justin Fields has time to throw or you know is it scrambling and making up plays down the field and then Bo Knicks gets his first game at home so he doesn't have the crowd to deal with he has the home crowd on his side so let's see if he settles in a little more yeah I thought that Broncos rushing attack was actually pretty capable Shawn pyton as far as scheming stuff did a lot to help his rookie quarterback last week bonck just found out hey these NFL windows are different he made some throws you just absolutely cannot make into windows that didn't exist and that's the biggest difference we always hear about with college guys going to the NFL there so again Pittsburgh is a road favorite here I do think that Steelers defense Dad where we saw hey TJ watt almost broke that game with the Atlanta Falcons open by himself they were going up against Kirk Cousins who's not the most mobile quarterback right now but I think the Steelers get this done on the road I think that defense especially against a rookie is just something I'd be willing to hang my hat on right now while Bo's still figuring it out yeah I think so as where because Garrett BS also the left tackle for the Broncos may be out uh he's got a calf and B Knicks was was sacked twice in the opening weekend but was pressured a ton and when he had to move was offt Target so yeah I I like Pittsburgh especially with TJ watt coming off the edge all right Dad New York quarterbacks had a rough week one which one needs the win more in week two Daniel Jones and the Giants going on the road against the commanders and the Jets heading down to a Tennessee Titans team that gave it away late against the Bears last weekend which New York quarterback needs to win more this weekend well I I think the Jets do because I think the Jets are the team that's in line for the playoffs nobody is nobody is now there can be surprises every year doesn't mean it can't happen we always see bad teams one year make the playoffs the next year but not a lot of people spouting that off about the Giants making the playoffs and the Jets there are high hopes for because of Aaron roders for the next year or two uh for how long he's going to be that they have loaded up or potentially loaded up uh to make a again a Super Bowl run anything short of a Super Bowl is going to be a failure for what they've tried to bringing in Aaron Rogers and try and load up around him especially uh with that defense so I definitely think there's more on you know the Aaron roders and the Jets team than Daniel who week in and week out we talk about he's playing for his job now he is 5-1 and one against Washington so he has done well against them and you have the rookie quarterback and Jaden Daniels playing for Washington who had the best game of the rookie quarterbacks in week one both both passing and running the ball but as far as who needs it more definitely the Jets there's more on this jet season we're talking about the Giants possibly having a high draft pick again if that's a Jets case that's a just an ultimate failure if they were to have a high draft pick so I think it's way more on the Jets I I'm with you I think unfortunately for Daniel Jones his fate is kind of already sealed based off what we've heard from that organization and I just don't see a world where that offense can get a ton better in the immediacy enough to save his job there so I I'll rock with you on that one for the Jets and the tall task that they have uh going on uh going on this weekend as well Dad you've got I believe one of the rookie quarterbacks in Sunday night football this weekend the Texans and the Bears yes Texans and the bears in Houston uh so Caleb Williams gets his chance to kind of redeem himself the team pulled off the win again it's like hey you got the W and that's all that matters is W's and L's in professional sports and they got the win thanks to their defense and special teams but it's a chance for Caleb Williams and this what we thought was loaded offense to kind of do something though we'll see about romad dun he got nicked up in the in that first game uh he may may be day to day may miss some time uh but they're they're going to have a task against this uh this Houston defense no doubt about it I was gonna say if you gave me a pick of the rookie quarterbacks heading into week two we mentioned Caleb Williams against the Texans on the road Jaden Daniels hosting the Giants and bonick hosting the Steelers I think Jaden Daniels is primed to probably make the jump this week that Giants front four certainly fear some and can get after the quarterback but he's a guy I I I Know Dan Quinn wants him to scramble less but this might not be the week for that against that fourman pass rush I think you can cut it Loose I think the Giants back end of that defense is something that could be open for business and of those three guys I think he's facing the defense that gives him a much better chance of having success week to week coming up next though let's take a look ahead at the rest of the Slate here at some underdogs Jordan brener going to join us from The Underdogs podcast and tell you why teams that got blown out week one can't get written off just yet that's coming up next here on Gojo and go [Music] yeah e e e [Applause] he welcome back to Gojo and gock as we look continue to look ahead at the NFL weekend always fun to try and find some dogs and that's what our next guest is here to help us do Jordan brener one of the co-hosts along with Peter keing of The Underdogs podcast over a metalark media Jordan happy week two man how you doing Happy week two gox it's always good to be with you especially when we've got overreactions to week one to talk about and and all sorts of people freaking out it's my favorite time of year I was going to say that's something I did want to talk to you about because it is what we do we've been waiting so long for the season to show up that when we finally get new information to add to the model whether the people that actually do that or just the rest of us in our peanut brains we got a lot of that in week one with some Wild results and I I guess I wanted to ask you a as we're getting ready to look and try and handicap week two and figure out who we think can win how much stock you do put in that especially teams that lost by a pretty significant margin in week one what to expect out of them going into week two so I think we really have to recalibrate our expectations especially in this era football guys where there's only three preseason games and a lot of teams aren't playing their starters at all I think I saw somewhere that 13 quarterbacks didn't play a snap in the preseason so I'm just not sure how much definitive information we can take from week one last year eight games were decided in week one by 10 points or more we can call that a blowout okay those teams that lost by 10 or more came back the next week and went four and four straight up the teams that won by ten or more last week in one week one also went four and four straight up in week two so there was really no Rhyme or Reason to what those team took forward into the next week wow that that that is that is pretty amazing um but are there certain teams where like Carolina Carolina now now they do play the Chargers and the Chargers are going west to east and playing at a 1:00 game which is usually death for a West Coast team but do you see that kind of an improvement for a Carolina team you know I look based on what they looked like last week they won't win a game but we know that changes remember last year guys the Giants got waxed in the opening game by the Cowboys I think it was 40 to nothing went out to Arizona and I think we're down 21 nothing at the half then day ball takes over the play calling big come back Daniel Jones actually connects and the Giants won right and that was after six quarters of looking like the worst football team ever invented so I'm just not sure that we can write off anyone yes and you the Chargers looked better than we thought the Panthers looked awful I think that's a nice spot and I think um I looked up shout out to the Action Network and their amazing tools at action Labs I looked it up and teams that had lost by I think 10 or more the week before we playing a team that also lost the week before or 50 and 34 against the spread uh in week two over time so there's a lot of value and then that that that hits teams like the Giants this week I was going to say so uh looking at the teams that would have qualified coming off last week teams that lost by 10 or more in week one you had certainly the Jets on Monday Night Football as the last installment of that but also the commanders the Cleveland Browns those Las Vegas Raiders the Giants and the Panthers so as you look at that group ORD in particular and the challenges they've got in week two is there one or two two of those teams in particular that you do think has the best chance of rebounding strong yeah I mean I think the the the Jets I'm not going to move totally off my preseason assessment of how good I thought a team is right so the Jets they're three and a half Point favorites at Tennessee um I certainly like them straight up that's a lot I I wish you know I wish the hook weren't there I wish I could have them by less than a field goal but I'm not ready to give up on that team yet and Aaron Rogers does look like he still has a functional arm so that's that's important and and yeah I mean you mentioned the Panthers I think coming back home they'll be motivated I think you mentioned the Chargers coming back west to east I think that's an interesting spot um the Chargers are fivepoint favorites too so I like I like taking the Panthers getting the points there but I'm I'm curious what you guys think too because you've played the game does how much does this evolved preseason and longer regular season change the way players come into the season how we evaluate teams early on oh I I I definitely think they're not as ready I mean there's no doubt I mean with with you're playing now you are practicing while they're less preseason games sometimes that gets lost in the fact that teams are practicing together which I think helps but it doesn't help the quarterback who is always wearing red in those practices and and they can they can Flex their muscle more than any other player because they know they're not going to get hit uh so that might be one of the reasons why and they didn't play a lot in preseason games and they play a lot in those practices but they can't be hit that touchdown passes were basically cut in half uh uh this year how about how about a team like the Patriots who I don't know if we're really they win week one but I don't know how much we're really buying into them in a home game again against the West Coast team coming to the east in Seattle I'm totally with you there's been teams in the past I in fact I think something like 28 teams that since 2000 that won three or fewer games three of them actually won their first game there's there was a Texans team in like 2013 that went two and0 and then lost their next 14 games I you could have a mirage at the beginning of the season so I am not at all ready to jump on any kind of bandwagon with that team credit to them for beating the Bengals I I still think this is a a really not very talented roster and I wouldn't be surprised if they still went something like three and 14 yeah I I I think looking at this and talking about what you mentioned the trend of the blowouts players coming in ready in general it's also one of those things where the NFL is such a different monster than when we handicap something like college football because it's so matchup driven week to week it's so based on what you see as far as injury reports because the talent gap's just not that big for any of these teams from one team to the other a and so I I think factoring in a lot of that stuff like Seattle versus what the Patriots went up against in a team like the Bengals last week is the perfect one where you watch Seattle in week one albe it against the Broncos team that's got a rookie quarterback but defensively with Mike McDonald they gave up fewer than a 100 yards rushing on the ground that group looked improved back end tackled really well and we know they're not going to have to worry as much about jacobe brassette going and airing that thing out because of the receivers they've got in that room and so they seem much more equipped than a Bengals team who the issues from last season were tackling running and stopping the run all these things that showed up again in week one and kind of I guess confirmed what we saw about rosters that we know more about because they've been together longer Jordan if that makes sense it makes perfect sense I literally agree with everything you just said no notes all right perfect no notes there so we can keep it going we've talked about some of the other rookie quarterbacks Jordan how do you deal with rookies usually early on in the season because we've seen instances where hey some guys have gone out there and really struggled and other guys like Caleb Williams struggle but their team still manages to go and get a win and kind of cover up those blemishes so especially for people that might be laying down money around rookie quarterbacks how do you usually try and go and guard against some of the things that can come with that you know I thought this was really interesting because a lot of folks in particular were really high on Jaden Daniels and Kayla Williams in fantasy drafts they were going in like the top 15 if not top 12 of a lot of leagues people ready to insert them as starters right away and I think what we saw and by the way this extended to a lot of the rookie receivers too Marvin Harrison Malik neighbors Brian Thomas romad dun I think our calibration was a little warped because of how good CJ strad was last year and we forgot that that's not normal what he did is was just out of character the history is littered with really great quarterbacks who got off to really slow starts so I think we had to slow our role a little bit look I still love I mean Jaden Daniel just because of the rushan yards right is still a great fantasy player and I still like cayb Williams long term for this season but I just think everybody's got to say okay hold on the offense I think that bears offense will be clicking by week nine with all the weapons they have but it's going to take a little time they have to integrate so many new parts in addition to a rookie quarterback that again it it it this pairs with what we just said right if these guys are getting less experience in the pre-season if they're getting less experience with new teammates it takes time and patience is not something NFL fans are known for how about how about the the wide receivers in and you mentioned you mentioned of Marvin Harrison I mean he was a guy that was I mean everybody loved it was Malik neighbors who actually had the best week one in a Giants loss and the Cardinals put up 28 points so they score points uh in their loss uh but Marvin Harrison has one catch and three targets I mean there were five other receivers whether they were tight ends backs or wide receivers that had more catches than him I'm wondering too now with the benefit of hindsight after watching the bills again last night and what they did against Tyreek Hill and Jaylen wad if we have to give a little more credit to the bills in that game than maybe we did at first I mean they made life difficult for a fantastic Dolphins passing attack and the Cardinals are not that yet so for Marvin Harrison to come in and face what looks like a really good defense in his first week and a team that's playing two high safeties and and the rest okay maybe we back off a little bit there I I still think the guy is going to be great don't you I would agree I I mean you talk about the fantasy portion of it this is a guy most people had penciled in for a thousand yard season as a rookie because of the success that offense had last year with a guy like Trey McBride who didn't have his starting quarterback for half the season Kyler's been healthy all off season so I have been a cardinal stock purchaser over this last off season and de your point the bills are a really good team I'm not selling that stock anytime soon what I am interested in is how you think this league wide Trend in offense going down because we talked about this relative to quarterbacks and receivers but in general Jordan we've seen the reports that went out a couple days ago that offense is down in a way that it hasn't been in like 17 years in the NFL it's been a pretty consistent downward slope and so do we expect tighter margins then because of that all season did we see that reflected last year you know I'm I again I'm wondering if this is an early season Trend and that defense to start out maybe more ahead of the offenses for precisely the reasons you were talking about Mike with quarterbacks not playing and wearing the red jersey probably easier for the defenses to prepare I also wonder again guys and and and you're the ones who've been on the field but if more and more teams go under the two high safety look it's just going to force teams to run the ball more and is that just going to change the dynamic of games a little bit because more running slower Pace fewer total points what do you think well I'll tell you the running backs would be happy about that their value may go back up they may start start signing some deals but yeah you're seeing shorter passes uh shorter air yard passes because of the to High I mean it it's it's a trend everything is cyclical we'll see when it goes back but it's definitely taking away uh from from from the deeper passes how about the The Underdogs this week that you think have the best chance to to cover to cover well I mean we mentioned Carolina at home um I I just think that's an interesting spot and like I said I like going against the grain there and everyone thinks they're they're just awful so getting Five Points it's uh I think that's that's that's a tasty spot that's probably my favorite right now um gosh where else on the board I I can't even I can't even I'm so tempted to go back to the giant well like like week two last year they're getting a point and a half against the commanders but I think my co-hosts will kill me at this point if I if I jinx them but that I you know that's an interesting spot I just I like the idea of when you think the team that you think is most down at this point coming out with a lot of motivation and it's still early we just haven't seen the we still haven't seen their true colors yet if that makes any sense yep no it it does and the NFL has a funny way of providing us with the funniest outcome possible the minute everybody sells and dumps on one team so I I'm with you the Panthers are in a fascinating position and quite honestly a one where the situation feels pretty dire if you get two weeks in a row of your ass kick the way that they did last week especially starting off with division opponent David terer we know that man's got a quick trigger finger and it could get even more agitated uh coming off week two here check him out alongside Peter keing again underdogs at mear media always great stuff Jordan we appreciate the time brother and hopefully we'll talk to you again soon all right absolutely love spending time with you guys thanks man awesome stuff here and uh yeah Dad that the Panthers team's in a fascinating spot right now where I just I don't know how much I can trust them I don't know how good I feel about it because we just haven't seen any signs of life with that team I I I I would go with the Chargers in this and give the what five five and a half I just I know I know that the what the what the record says when you go West Coast to East Coast and it's a one o'clock game I get it um but I just I just like the Chargers in this one just more out of the fact that I haven't seen anything anything positive out of Carolina I know that people have been handing out offensive rookie of the week honors I think Jaden Daniels might have pulled away for that with that this year I I forget if that was it or not how dare they ignore the accomplishments of friend of the program in former Fighting Irish offensive tackle Joe alt locking down Max Crosby in week one I think that's the other part of it is they got through a dub against the defensive front with him and Christian Wilkins that was actually built to challenge them Derrick Brown goes down now for a Carolina Panthers team that already let Brian Burns walk in the off seon and now all of a sudden I think you've got the potential for Justin Herbert to have a very clean pocket and hopefully get the ball to our next guest coming up next we'll talk to Chargers wide receiver Quinton Johnson about the matchup this [Music] weekend e e e e heading in the week two of the NFL season pumped to be joined by Chargers wide receiver Quinton Johnston seconde player out of TCU Quinton good morning and uh how you feeling coming off week one for you guys uh you know uh feeling good it's always good to uh you know start out the season with a win so it was a good team win I'm I'm excited for the next game well and starting off with a division game like that got to be wild coming out of the gate we saw it get a little bit charged up in there you were over in the mix when one of your receivers got caught up in it Did Josh Palmer so walk me through the fight scenario there cuz usually that's for big guys like us so you're going over getting in the mix so uh my boy scored right before that obviously big for him that was his first n thefield touchdown shout out to him I guess uh Josh and other dud was get into it you know most of the game and um I kind of I kind of looked up last minute cuz I was ready to walk back cuz uh we didn't convert I walk back to the sideline I look up um they were over there on the ground wrestling fighting and stuff so uh initially I went over there I'm like I'm like y'all chill y'all get up and you know was trying to kind of kind of kind of sort of trying to break it up uh and then and then and then it just got too much I kind of realized very quickly they would they W trying to break it up right then my guy Josh over there and I couldn't just you know sit there and let that happen so um kind of kind of kind of got into it with those two guys right then um and then and then after that you know everybody ran over there was just pulling people off each other I got I got pulled off by somebody uh me and him me and him kind of went back and forth uh you know get into it but uh yeah you know you know you know eventually after that it broke up but it was still it was still kind of um uh a lot of tension you know and you're not the normaliz wide receiver you can get in some scraps you being being the size you are you're going to be intimidating to other receivers so how how was the between the new new coach and Jim harball in the training camp in the first game how how different was was it from last year yeah yeah yeah uh for sure um I feel like um I feel like it was a big positive for us having a guy like that come in and just bringing a positive energy to the to the team as a whole I'll just give a good example of what type of coach is like we'll be we'll be on the ropes or something and then I'll look back and you know uh to to pass the ropes off it'll be him standing right there and he's like come on he's he's sitting there with cat on doing the workout with us so um I feel like from day one he just he just he just kind of showed us that he's a player coach and he's good to be around we kind of we kind of got gained a lot of trust from him you know very early for you coming off your rookie campaign and going into your second year now with a new coaching staff here what's been the biggest thing you've been trying to work on and what is the coaching staff talk to you about Greg Roman in this offense the way that they see you involved yeah yeah for sure um just just just just growing my game um as a as an all-around receiver um uh taking taking taking my last year's experience and kind of you know building off that learning from it the ups and the Downs um yeah and then and then uh coach coach Roman has a you know um you know a big a big Spotlight I feel like um is going to shine on me this year um they got they got me in a lot of game plans and you know I'm ready for it well yeah I mean last year with the offensive weapons I know Mike Williams got hurt early but Keenan Allen and even Austin Eckler in the backfield and all of them gone I I would was from the offseason on to this first game was it told to you by Greg Roman hey you you're you're now the guy uh for sure um uh it wasn't it wasn't it wasn't as direct as it was um until I first got here but I mean like obviously with those with those guys going that's always um that's always something um I'm not even going to say at the back of my mind at the front of my mind um you know through every through every workout um through every uh film session over the summer um I mean I mean every time I you know uh thought about football every time somebody said something about football that was always at the front of my mind um so um you know that that kind of that kind of just pushed me to work a little bit harder this summer just you know getting ready for the season have you guys talked about it in the wide receiver room I mean your guys room has been the subject of a lot of conversation with those guys leaving in the way that they view that offense has there kind of been a chip on the shoulder in there um somewhat somewhat um but but but we don't want to put too much pressure on it uh we still we still want to uh you know go in go uh to every game putting one full forward uh you know playing game cuz you know at the end of the day we still got um you know uh a lot of confidence in ourselves and a lot of U you know confidence in the people we have in the room with uh Jim Harbaugh being the coach knowing he likes to run the ball drafting an offensive tackle with with the first pick how much was it relayed to you wide receivers hey you guys are GNA have to be doing some blocking down field on these running plays uh I mean I mean I mean I was kind of already just like a thought like we already knew um like as soon as they did that it's like okay we going to be doing some we going to be doing some block but at the end of today that's good for us too um you know the more we block and stuff the more um you know the Run game opens up and stuff like that the more that helps us out um you know and vice versa we do our job you know helps the running backs in the Run game so uh we're still we're still we're still very excited for that for Justin obviously last year the first time his career was really affected by injury and took him off the field during the regular season dealt with a little bit of the planner fascist stuff during the preseason this year has it been tough with all that in mind to kind of get on the same page with him and get the Reps in this new offense with him this year or do you guys feel comfortable already uh no I feel like um I feel like for the most part we're still we're still comfortable CU I mean so he was he was still there um you know every day at practice even though we weren't getting just the actual uh you know physical reps we still you know um you know uh daily in and out of meetings with each other we we we were doing joint practices with the joint U meetings with the quarterbacks and stuff like that and then um you know from time from time to time he he'll do like he'll do like spot up throws and stuff like that when he when when he was starting to get back right but um know after that when he came back we feel like we hav it you know Mr beat we still we still picked up on where we um left off before he got hurt um and I feel like um I feel like we're we're continuing to you know go up so with with again with your new coaching Jim Harbaugh sometimes he he talks and it's like kind of a weird thing that he says if have you have you found that when you're listening to him in meetings that of just kind of the tangents he goes off on sometimes I mean I mean I mean yeah but that's but that's but that's what um you know I feel like I feel like that's what makes him so likable just about a coach you know um you know uh to us to us you know at least um he's he's just he's just allaround funny guy um you know uh when it's time to be serious it's for sure time to be serious with him um but he's but he's a real um you know a real lighthearted guy real playful guy he likes to likes to play um you know a lot especially like in me he cracks a lot of jokes and stuff like that you know which which which keeps us up it's always it's always a good time being around him good culture around the organization it really seems like talking to guys it in your building right now we talked about him a little bit at the beginning but in your room lad makoni a rookie in a position you were in last year Gets In The End Zone in his first game what's impressed you the most about him as he comes into the league the way you did last year oh yeah for sure um you know he he came he came in it seemed like almost day one he already had the offense down pack um he's he's he's a he's a he's a leader even though he's you know um you know a rookie I feel like uh not only not only one of the receivers I mean one of the leaders in the receiver room but you know on the team as well um know he comes in day in day out he's going to be the same person hard working um you know I like that about him a lot you know your your rookie year you you came in you had 38 receptions and a couple of touchdowns are you a guy that puts numbers to goals like if you have a goal this season are there numbers to your goals um uh not not not anything specific just um you know I kind of I kind of kind of want to just go by like milestones in the game if I get uh certain amount of catches I'll at least be at this this this yardage and then you know hopefully um you know at the end of the season I'll look up and be you know satisfied with what I did but um you know just going in um you know preparing before the game and you know just put my best fo forward you know while I'm in the game I feel like I'll be right where I want to be for you guys this week you're on the road against the Carolina Panthers team that listen struggled out the gate there's no way to sugarcoat what we saw happen with them against the Saints so for you guys what have you seen so far on tape and how do you avoid kind of that exhale that can sometimes happen when you see an opponent go out and get beat like that yeah um I mean I mean I mean so we look at the tape and we still we still at the end of the day we see a we see we see an NFL team full of you know professional football players so we don't want to take anybody lightly no matter you know who it is what they did the week before this is a this is a new week and we kind of we kind of got a was kind of just like a Comon saying in football you know called you know said um you know uh um Any Given Sunday so you know Any Given Sunday anybody can you know beat anybody you don't want to take anybody lightly you know just watching the film um um we see some Goods we see some bads you know but that's that's what that's what any team so um we still we still got to put our best for before like I said before when you go out to a game like on the East Coast well they always talk about uh East Coast or West Coast going to east coast and playing at one o'clock and how that can be a disadvantage how how do you find the travel where you end up being out on the East Coast for two days and having an early game um just I mean just I mean just turn around getting adjust as quick as you can um you know um you know make make sure you're hydrated uh make sure you get the right sleep um that come that comes with being a professional of any sport uh you just got to you just got to get adjusted quick and you know show up like you're you know back at home for uh game day I have no doubt you guys will do just that again off to a one and0 start new era with Jim Harbaugh at the helm and things looking bright for the Chargers faithful uh Quinton we appreciate the time and all the Insight man best of luck stay healthy and hopefully we'll get to catch up with you again at some point this season all right man I appreciate you guys for having me [Music] [Applause] [Music] for e e e [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] all right time to finish off the show the way we always do this Johnston the Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver wherever you get our podcast or right here on YouTube as soon as we get done and guys let's start off with this that and the third Emerson's with us today so we knew Jacksonville propaganda was going to make its way into the lineup the Jags home opener this weekend facing a Browns team that got beat up both these teams lost last weekend won't actually be played at EverBank stadium but instead ever Bank Stadium uh the naming sponsor of the stadium in a collaboration with the team Star Quarterback unveiling the one week only name change to the stadium they did a bunch of ads with him over the summer and Dad all I got to say is based on what we've seen and heard and know about Trevor Lawrence as someone who you know it said doesn't really want the spotlight on him all this much this must have been so much money thrown his way to get him to go out and agree to do this yeah uh no doubt about it uh but but you you know there's there's the fear that it will always be known as Trevor Bank Stadium which makes you wonder will EverBank lose some notoriety in it I remember in Arizona when they built uh Bank One ballpark Bank One ballpark became known as the Bob and nobody knew Bob the Bob was associated with bank one ballpark so Trevor bank I mean well now it's obviously there's ever Bank in it but will it lose something in the association Emerson yeah thanks thank you very much senior for explaining that to me the video that the Jaguars and Trevor Lawrence put out though is very funny it's very creative it's very cheesy the video they put out announcing this change people are crapping on America's team right now but people are at least talking about the Jags another thing I thought about immediately when I saw this you need to make sure you spell Trevor Bank Stadium correctly when you plug it into your GPS and then third you absolutely have to win on Sunday after pulling this move you cannot lose your home opener to the lowly Browns days after this social media campaign and they they they've been teasing it all week here guys they're like change is coming everyone says oh man they're going to cut Trevor Lawrence's hair he's going to go complet completely bald and beautiful just like Gojo no turns out they're just adding a TR in front of EverBank stadium for one week okay you have to win they will absolutely be clowned even more than they already are on social media if they lose this week inside Trevor Bank Stadium the Jags are three-point home favorites getting that courtesy three uh on the draftking sports book 15 and 14 in home openers and haven't beaten the Browns since 2017 that being said I actually like the Jags to win in this game I think BRS Vibes all time off that offense still pretty beat up uh I do fear miles Garrett and Company against that Jags offensive line but hey Trevor's going to go out there and earn that money why not this week uh we move away from Jacksonville propaganda and Emerson moved towards that which is interesting golf attire from Tony Romo yeah I'm not quite sure why people are hating on him this much for this fit is this the worst fit you've ever seen on a golf of course is the question what do you think here Gojo it appears to be a polo with what looks like some athletic shorts I've golfed in bathing suits and simple white t-shirts before out here at the peak of Summer Wherever this was shot could just be super hot you don't want swamp ass Jim shorts are perfect for battling that I mean there there's a there's a thought of where you're golfing as well if you're golfing on some nine-hole mun course than golfing in a bathing shirt and a white T-shirt I can see happening for you Emerson yeah but you're if you're golfing anywhere nice you got to have the the collar shirt that I I've golfed in shorts like those too though I mean I I look for Comfort um I I definitely have golfed in shorts like not not a ton but I have and I don't know the type of golf course he's at now certainly you're not you're not golfing like that at Pebble Beach um so I I think that has a lot to do with where your golfing he was he was on the YouTube seros with Bryson desmo where they try and break 50 with a celebrity guest each time and uh so I I'm sure it was some way where it was just them it was a controlled environment and Dad yeah if anyone can appreciate dressing like this when you have the money to dress better it's you that's your entire ethos so I don't know how you would fix your lips to say one critical word about this you know what oh no I listen as I did I I'm not but I've I've been fortunate enough to golf the likes of Pebble Beach and whistling straight and Pinehurst and I wouldn't wear that I would know to dress better than that but I've also that's the ultimate like rich guy Flex to walk into a place that is very nice and say I have so much money that I am spending and will spend here that I don't need to abide by everybody else's rules you you have me confused with a really rich person then uh because I'm not that rich I'm talking about Tony not no no Tony Tony yes Tony could definitely pull that up because he's also a golfer he's golf everywhere so he he could pull that off yeah this is clearly it's some nice country club because of the video and who he is golfing with you know who's going to get in trouble for this guys is the starter at this golf course all right this picture is making its rounds head of the club's going to come over and be like hey Jimmy come on over here look at this pick how the hell did Tony Romo get on this track with those shorts all right Jimmy strike strike one it is a good reminder about the importance of building too because for Tony Romo we don't really see him in this particular form and fashion that often usually when he's golfing like Dad said he's been in a bunch of the tournaments plays in the celebrity tournaments you see him dress pretty normally there this is Adam Sandler level golf Aton and when you're not Adam Sandler who's reinforced this over time for so long that we're just like oh yeah of course Adam Sandler is going to wear gym shorts and loose fitting t-shirts when you're somebody else and tries to do it now all of a sudden we start raising the alarms because we haven't been pilled for that the way that Sandler does and you know what I just saw a meme the other day that we are entering Adam Sandler season everyone with like the gym shorts the oversized basketball shorts and then the massive hoodies or like deep Long teas oh and this is it dude it's it's fact it's Fat Guy season fat guy football weather means you get to walk out of the house wearing gym shorts and a hoodie up top you get a little bit of ventilation down low a little bit of the warmth and softening of the trouble areas up top with the sweatshirt you're already modeling that right now so this is a great time to be alive for everybody as is for this getting to the third uh now Emerson let's get to the food portion of the proceedings here what you you wear loose clothing so you can eat things like this all right french fries what do you mean no french fries but nope topped with olives so the tweet my friend has just ordered possibly the worst takeaway order of all time you're not an olive guy Gojo nope oh I'm an olive guy Mike is I would absolutely smash this right now there's nothing that you could listen there's very little you couldn't put on fries that I still wouldn't eat this is just a little sprinkle of feta cheese away from essentially being like a Mediterranean fch french fry twist so I have zero problem with this I love more Savory on top of it little bit of a different texture those look like good golden brown crunchy fries I'm all in and salivating right now you got to put this under the broiler with feta cheese that is the absolute move with this so Emerson Mike to to Mike's point of liking olives when he was a kid he used to put olives on his fingers oh like push them onto his fingers and eat them off his fingers I love this uh that that's what that's what Young Mike gool did I feel like it's a classic little kid move by the way you no you're just a sicko you've always been a sicko you you you used to do that and your and your your sister Sydney used to eat butter packets she used to eat butter packets Mike used to put put uh olives on his fing in cdate eight butter packets this listen I I'm go ahead and do this go ahead and eat this it's just I I'm all for it if if you want to I just can't stand olives just pour some nice melted cheese on those fries and I'm good to go yeah Emerson I kid you not my sister would be at a restaurant and those butter packets that are the little ones with the plastic top that you got to pop and peel off she used to just take a knife dig butter out of it and then feed it from the knife onto her mouth like she was some Soldier lost in the woods having to eat whatever she found in the wild so uh truly built different I thought the olive thing was a thing that everybody did as little kids like oh yeah you put some of the black olives on your fingers you eat them off there and you go on your Merry way apparently I'm finding out I'm a bit of a freak yeah you are [Music] a [Music]
