LET'S GET RIGHT TO LISSETTE NUNEZ. SHE IS IN RUTHERFORD THIS MORNING AND SHE'S, SHE HAS HOW RIDERS ARE REACTING. LIZETTE YOU ACTUALLY COVERED A LOT OF THESE DISRUPTIONS. >> YEP, I SURE DID. AND YOU KNO, WHEN WE EXPLAINED IT TO PEOPLE, SOME PEOPLE THOUGHT IT WAS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. THEY'RE LIKE, THERE'S NO WAY. BUT WE HAD TO TELL THEM. YES. SO STARTING TODAY, IF YOU'RE TAKING AN NJ TRANSIT TRAIN OR A BUS, IT WILL BE FREE UNTIL SEPTEMBER 2ND. SO THIS IS A WAY THE STATE'S PRETTY MUCH SAYING, HEY, WE'RE SORRY. WE'RE REALLY TRYING TO MAKE IT UP TO YOU THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS. BOY OH BOY, SO MANY PROBLEMS ON NJ TRANSIT. I WAS COVERING THEM, PEOPLE TELLING ME THAT THEY WERE LEFT STRANDED IN TRAINS FOR SEVERAL HOURS. MULTIPLE PEOPLE TELLING ME THEY PAID HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS IN EITHER UBER OR LYFT TO GET FROM THE CITY BACK HOME TO NEW JERSEY, JUST BECAUSE OF ALL OF THESE ISSUES. AND GOVERNOR MURPHY ACTUALLY MADE THAT ANNOUNCEMENT HERE ON GOOD DAY NEW YORK. THE GOVERNOR BELIEVES MOST OF THE ISSUES FELL ON AMTRAK, PARTICULARLY THE PROBLEMS WITH OVERHEAD WIRES. HOWEVER HOWEVER, THE INFRASTRUCTURE IS ACTUALLY SHARED BY BOTH NJ TRANSIT AS WELL AS AMTRAK. MURPHY SAID THAT HE MET WITH BOTH AGENCIES OVER THE SUMMER AND SAYS THERE ARE EFFORTS UNDERWAY TO FIX THE ISSUE, ADDING THAT AMTRAK HAS APPLIED FOR $300 MILLION IN FEDERAL GRANTS TO FIX OVERHEAD WIRES. >> IT IS, I'D SAY, LESS THAN A MAKEUP, BECAUSE I'M NOT NAIVE ENOUGH TO THINK THAT IF YOU'VE HAD THE SUMMER THAT OUR COMMUTERS HAVE HAD, THAT ONE WEEK WILL DO IT, BUT IT IS AN ACKNOWLEDGMENT AND THANKING OUR OUR THOUSANDS, HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF CUSTOMERS, A TIP OF THE CAP AND THE SUMMER ON A GRACE NOTE TO BE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF IT. >> I TOLD FRIENDS OF MINE, AND WE'RE GOING TO GO DOWN THE SHORE. WE MIGHT GO TO SPRING LAKE OR MAYBE BAY HEAD. >> I'M DEFINITELY GOING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE. SO, SHOUT OUT TO NEW JERSEY TRANSIT. >> SO THIS WEEK IS TYPICALLY THE SLOWEST WEEK FOR THE SYSTEM, GIVEN THAT LABOR DAY IS COMING UP AND SOME PEOPLE MAY HAVE OFF, SO THEY MIGHT BE COMMUTING TO THE OFFICE, BUT PEOPLE ARE THAT WE'VE BEEN TALKING TO SAY, HEY, WE'LL TAKE ANYTHING THAT WE CAN GET. NOW FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO DO HAVE THOSE MONTHLY PASSES AND THEY ALREADY PAID FOR AUGUST, THEY WILL NOT BE EXCLUDED FROM THIS. THEY WILL GET A 25% DISCOUNT FOR SEPTEMBER.
