Washington Commanders Add 1 of the 2 QBs GM Adam Peters Said the Team Would Add in Vet Jeff Driskel

Network who else could have be but me your man Lou welcome to the command post you know what it is post up take command of course s your commander-in Chief Lou T thank you for joining me I told y'all you can set your watch to it all right anytime I put out a video talking about Washington sign in a free agent they're going to sign another free agent directly thereafter here we are again this is getting out of hand now seriously this is out of control so just put out a video talking about Washington signing uh running back Jeremy McNichols to add depth to the roster but really more competition I think he's more of an insurance policy they had signed alamad SAS over the weekend uh so I reacted to that as well and then voila Washington signs a quarterback Jeff Driscoll who um I told you every time they sign somebody um I try to find the connection that's currently on the staff so for this one I had to go all the way back to 2019 because this is a journeyman quarterback when we talk about journeyman quarterbacks you're talking about guys like Jeff Driscoll who probably has already played for six or seven NFL teams in a very short amount of time I can remember him um in Detroit I can remember him in Cincinnati I did not know he was in Cleveland this year I remember him being in Arizona briefly um Houston I remember him very vividly being in Houston and in San Francisco I may have left out a stop or two I mean that's how many teams he's played for already add Washington to the list now whether he makes this team or not um remains to be seen I told you I think we're going to have three quarterbacks I want him on this team if we're keeping three because I don't want Jake from anywhere near our roster on game days so in order you know they they enacted a new rule last year um after the whole debacle in the NFC championship game back in 22 with the 49ers um with the emergency quarterback so you can have a third quarterback uh active on game days but in an emergency role that doesn't count towards the 53 man active roster on game days or the 46 or whatever the number is active on game days but that guy has to be on your active 53 man roster he cannot be on the practice squad so I think Washington is going to keep three quarterbacks this year with that said um he could make this team because Jake from stinks okay and I know there are some Jake from stands out there I don't know what the hell is wrong with you but I can't tell you who to like and who to root for but I actually like Jeff Driscoll and the connection to Washington is is Lance Newark our assistant GM who was with Jeff Driscoll um in 2019 in Detroit and so that's the one guy that actually has exposure to him maybe a coach or two also has worked with him um throughout their career somewhere in a landing destination because again he's been around right like Tupac he get around right but at at the end of the day he's being brought in as that fourth quarterback remember our GM Adam Peters in that scrum that we talked about in Orlando last week uh told the uh reporters that were a part of that scrum uh that Washington is going to take and I told I told you that was one of the more impactful statements that he made which was we're going to go to camp with four quarterbacks which every team goes to camp with four quarterbacks that that wasn't the the statement that got you know blew our minds but just to hear him say it right you know he didn't have to tell us that he could have just done it but for him to tell us we were like okay so that means we're adding he said we will add two quarterbacks at some point well we know we're adding one of them in the draft more likely than not I feel like 99.9% uh sure that it's going to be at the number two overall pick but we didn't know where the other quarterback would come from would it be another rookie would it be another veteran well we got our answer now okay so does this uh does this exclude Washington from making a selection at the back end of this draft or even bringing in an undrafted guy that they like after the draft is over as a a priority free agent no it doesn't if they really like a quarterback at in the sixth round in the seventh round they could still take that guy right um but the likelihood is now they won't right that's what this signing kind of says is that now we've got three quarterbacks on the roster currently all veterans which makes sense if you're gonna draft a young guy you don't want two young guys and one veteran sandwiched in between you'd prefer to have you know two veterans mentoring the Young quarterback and have that be the quarterback room so that's what it looks like it's going to be the the rookie that we take at number two overall Marcus Mariota and I think Jeff Driscoll is a an upgrade over uh Jake FR so to me I look at Jeff Driscoll as a guy that could be on this roster because I keep telling you we're keeping three quarterbacks this is one of those rosters this is one of those years and next year may be another one of those years just depending on how this year goes but next year also could be another one of those years where we're still formulating the roster we're still turning it over and so you're going to have you know a a kind of disproportionate roster where in in a normal competitive year where you feel like you're chasing after something meaningful you're only carrying two quarterbacks because you need that roster spot it's too valuable to go into the season with a third quarterback when you have an established starter and you have a quality backup that's all you need but we're not there yet when you have a Young quarterback you need that third uh quarterback on the roster and so I I remember when we drafted Sam how we had three quarterbacks we had Carson Wentz we had Taylor Hani and we had Sam how like that's what I Envision this roster being this year right you're gonna have the rookie quarterback you're gonna have two veterans and that's how they're going to go into the season um and again I like Jeff Driscoll more than I like Jake from and I expect him you know to make this roster and and I can remember remember Jeff Driscoll having some good moments I don't know if you guys remember the game this is the one that I remember the most from Jeff Driscoll I think his most extensive work probably came as a Cincinnati Bengal we played against him if you recall if I'm not mistaken we played against him that year in 2020 I believe I could be wrong about this but when we knocked Joe burrow we were the team that hurt Joe burrow right Jonathan Allen fell on his leg tore his ACL knocked him out of his rookie season in 2020 I think Jeff Driscoll finished up I could be wrong all right and it could have been Finley from NC State but I really think it was Jeff Driscoll who finished up that game in the second half and we ended up winning that game again I could be wrong but the I think his most extensive showing in the league came in Cincinnati he got some starts that year after burrow got hurt I want to say it was him because I think he started the rest of that year and actually played well in some spots but my most notable Jeff Driscoll game if you recall was in 2022 he went to H he went to the Texas he went to Texas for two years he went to Dallas and you know that Houston Texas Dallas Cowboys game is a big deal in the state of Texas because it's bragging rights well he went into Big D because that was the year where they were trying to figure out if Davis Mills was any good and Davis Mills wasn't any good and but he got hurt the week prior so he was out so Jeff Jeff Driscoll got the start they go into Dallas and he plays his ass off and he's got those boys in a position to win if Lovey Smith who was the coach at the time had just opted to I I want to say it was Lovey Smith it might have been 2021 because I think Lovey Smith was the head coach um no it was 2022 because Lovey Smith was the coach 21 was was Curry was c um what was his name cuffy Curry Cully David Cully it was 2022 and they went in there and they had the Cowboys buy the balls had them buy the scrotum and if they would have just scored a touchdown they got inside like the three yard line inside the two and they couldn't punch it in but if they had just took taken a field goal they probably would have won the game either way they went forward on fourth down they didn't get it Dallas got the stop and then Dak took them on this crazy Drive capped it off at the touchdown and they came back in dramatic fashion and beat the Texans the Texans were a lousy team obviously they ended up with the number two overall pick should have been the number one pick but somehow they managed to catch a hell Mary in the final week of the Season against Indianapolis ended up getting number one uh number two overall pick but that's nor here North there the bottom line is Driscoll played his ass off against Dallas had a chance they should have beaten Dallas that game and it would have been one of the worst losses for the Cowboys in recent memory but they avoided that disaster but Driscoll played well in that game so I just remember that he can play he's an athlete he's got a live arm he's solid he's a journeyman quarterback exactly what you're looking for as your fourth quarterback he's going to be the third quarterback if you ask me CU Jake from stinks so um let me know what you think about this signing but as Peters True to his word told us that we were taking four quarterbacks to camp this is the third guy on the roster now we're going to add that fourth quarterback at number two presumably and that that will be your four quarterbacks heading to Camp obviously the rookie Marcus Mariota now Jake uh Jeff Driscoll and then Jake from those will be your four quarterbacks you take the camp and um I expect them to trim that down to three and I think Jake from ultimately is the odd man out when it is all said and done but that's going to do it for me your man Lou T so we got our answer we got our fourth quarterback so the likelihood is I don't think this stops them from taking a quarterback in the draft if they like one but what it does say to me is that hey if we find a player that we like at the back end of this draft we don't have to spend a pick on another quarterback we can just take that player at a different position right so the likelihood of Washington selecting a quarterback a second quarterback in this draft just went down like at exponentially it went from like a 60% chance that they'd take another quarterback to down to probably less than 5% you know it'll have to be the absolute perfect scenario guy that they absolutely love as a backup option think he's got a lot of talent and they didn't expect him to be there they might have had a fourth round grade on him and he's sitting there in the sixth round then maybe they do something right but I I just don't see that happening I see them spending their draft capital and assets Elsewhere on other positions not quarterback and this signing kind of you know I don't want to say it cements that but it all but cements it at this point so anyway that's going to do it for me your man Lou T here on the command post you know what it is post up take command until next time
