Does it snow in Africa? // 9 coldest African countries.

Intro [Music] welcome to another video today's video is very interesting and uh let me start off with a question does africa receive snow stay tuned because i'm going to answer this question Does Africa receive snow africa is often the subject of many false misconceptions and one of them is that it is one huge hot country outrageous i know well here is the truth africa is actually a very diverse continent twice in fact more diverse than you may think now whereas some areas of africa are indeed what you might consider as dry and hot many others are not just come to kenya in july and august and the cold that will bite you will immediately drive this point home enough said here are nine african countries that are familiar with snow [Music] Kenya number one kenya kenya is a beautiful cavi country she has hills mountains plains and valleys that gently cares her terrain and you know what that means it means most of the kenyan interior is high altitude of course now we can know why kenya can experience the mild temperate weather many high altitude areas of kenya like the peaks of mount kenya which is africa's second highest mountain yandere ranges and even some towers in central kenya like el bagon and limuru do indeed receive varying amounts of what you might consider to be snow during the cold months of june july and august this is snow along road Lesotho number two lesotho now alessador is a southern african nation and it is also the highest elevated nation overall in the world this and its location in southern africa makes it prone to icy snowy winters from june to august the nation is transformed into a winter wonderland with the temperatures dipping to negative 20 in the highlands imagine that tourists and locals often treat themselves to great winter skiing at a frisky mountain [Music] resorts South Africa number three south africa now in south africa winter is between june to august and it is a generally dry and cool with the snow falling in the mountaineers regions south africa unlike many other african countries has four seasons some are for winter and spring only that they have flipped from the seasons in the northern hemisphere winter brings its own crop of stunning visitors and excitingly you will see snow in the mountaineers areas from the high passes of the drakensberg to the peaks around cape town and satellite in the karoo reputed to be south africa's coldest town with the temperatures below zero degrees receives snowfall every winter Algeria number four algeria algeria boasts a far more valid climate than you might expect from a country of which more than four feet of the land area is part of the sahara desert at altitudes above 900 meters above sea level winter snow is regular often lying on the ground for several days or even weeks between the months of november and february many areas around the atlas mountains are often blanketed with the layers of thick thick snow Tanzania number five tanzania tanzania is home to mount kilimanjaro the tallest mountain in africa of course this makes sense that such a place could experience snow on any given day as long as the peak is not engaged in the usual thick mist you will be treated to fantastic humidity you will be treated to fantastic spectacle of huge glaciers and snow covered [Music] peaks [Music] number six tunisia Tunisia in tunisia temperature is typically between 16 and 18 degrees but in a blink of an eye snow may fall at night temperature drops to about seven degrees and below zero degrees in highlands and deserts peaks of atlas mountains are often covered with snow caps tunisian winters are long cold windy and partly cloudy and there are lots of winter activities to keep you occupied [Music] number seven morocco Morocco morocco follows the same seasonal pattern as any other northern hemisphere country winter lasts from november to january and disease the coldest wettest weather of the year snow in morocco is not unusual in fact two ski resorts in the atlas mountains one near marrakech and the other near ifran experienced fairly regular snowfall every january and february [Music] Uganda number eight uganda the rwanzori mountains in uganda gets regular sunnah falls that cover them the rosary mountain chain includes africa's third highest peak month migrator which stands at five thousand one hundred and nine meters above sea level the regions glaciers waterfalls and lakes make it one of africa's most cold but beautiful alpine areas the permanent snow line stands at about 14 000 feet on the east and 16 000 feet on the west in uganda august is the coldest month and you will see many ugandans in heavy [Music] clothes and lastly ethiopia Ethiopia the period from december to february can be classified as ethiopia's winter season and the overall climate is a little bit cooler than during the rest of the year some snowfall is experienced in siemian mountains in northern ethiopia northeast of uganda in hamhara region which are part of the ethiopian highlands the siemens are remarkable as being one of the few spots in tropical africa where snow regularly falls [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] hope you learned something today if anything at least you enjoyed the site do suggest more africa related topics for me to cover in future thank you guys for watching and see you in the next one you
