LOCKED ON ANGELS POSTCAST: 9 LOSSES IN LAST 10 for Los Angeles Angels after 6-2 defeat vs Tigers

quo gets crushed the lineup is H pretty bad as always but today the Angels also throw in one of the worst defensive Innings I have ever seen in my life we'll talk about another Angels loss on and after the fact wherever you get the locked on Angels podcast feed I am Gavin Carls if you don't know who I am I spent the last four years as a credential journalist in the LA area I'm now a part of locked on podcast Network and boy oh boy is this team somehow even worse than we previously thought I think so obviously the the losses keep churning in now nine losses in the last 10 games for the angels as they fall six to2 in their series opener in Detroit against the Tigers Johnny quo not as good as his debut for the Angels hey he's 0 for two um it's not really his fault it certainly wasn't in his first start wasn't really his Lo his fault for the most part tonight either because in my opinion this game was turned around thanks to like I said in the intro probably the worst defensive inning I've ever seen in my life somehow someway the ruling on some of the plays there's only one error I don't know how I think there should be three either way there's three awful plays that helped the Tigers get two runs in the fourth inning and start a three inning rally that helped them pull away in this one as Jeff immediately throws in here the valid question 100 Lost season you got to start talking about it more and more all we were saying the last week or so was win one out of four games the rest of the year win one out of four games every series every couple and you'll be fine well how about nine losses in your last 10 this 100 Lost season not only the worst season of all time for the Angels I think that's going to happen but maybe the disgraceful 100 loss season that might there's three errors three unacceptable pathetic disgraceful can't happen plays by the Angels fielders the Angels actually jump out to a one- nothing lead for the first time in a while this team actually is ahead thanks to a leadoff double from Taylor Ward and then a RBI single from Nolan Chanel in the top of the first but we fast forward all the way to the bottom of the fourth at this point Johnny quo has been pitching really well three scoreless Innings he comes in in the fourth and immediately I mean immediately Things Fall Apart in the bottom of the fourth and it starts with a Parker Meadows triple I put triple in air quotes why because if you watch this one you probably know what I'm talking about if you don't if you didn't watch this one I will tell you this is not a triple from Parker Meadows this is an error by Taylor Ward I don't care what anybody says this ball is in the air for a while a while Taylor Ward drifting to left Center Kevin parlar drifting from center field to left Center at the end of the day Taylor Ward has enough time to look up at the ball position his glove in the right place and close his glove and just whiff the ball just with it sure did it get a little dicey because Kevin polar was also in the area they looked like they were going to get close to colliding okay maybe but still you got to make that play Taylor Ward you have to and somehow Taylor Ward doesn't make the play he just whiffs on the ball and Parker meow strolls all the way to third I don't think this is a triple I think this is an error was it a bad pitch a slider right down the middle from Johnny quo yes was it a ball in the Gap where two fielders are coming close to each other yes but this is an error Taylor Ward you got to make this play you have to make this play and this horrible defensive inning was just getting started quo quo Strikes Out Riley green and then with one out and that same runner on third m verling hits a line drive in right field it's certainly a base hit it's certainly a base hit Adele goes to cut it off maybe it's a double it's going to be a close play maybe he can throw one in and try to throw out um Matt verling at second but no Joe Adell Fields the ball with his glove and then it just falls out of his glove falls back to the turf he's got to go run after it and pick it up and what could be a bang bang play at second is now a Matt verling ending up at third they do rule this one the error it's ruled a double with an error to advance to third but this could have been a bang bang play at second and instead a guys on third base disgraceful and yet the most unacceptable uh unacceptable one of them all might be the next that bat Carrie Carpenter up against quo runner on third already one run in one out and he hits a weak weak liner grounder floater to center field up the middle Z Netto you are great you are a great Fielder you're a great hitter at this point you're the future of this franchise but how in the world do you not make contact with this ball and it's not even that he missed it if you didn't watch the play it's a kind of a floating liner to Center to up the middle at second base Neto is playing in the infield is in with the runner on third with one out but at the end of the day nto has plenty of time to line this one up and what frustrates me is not that he whiffed the ball CU he did with it but no effort no attempt to get in front of the ball the ball's hit at Netto and he instantly opens up his shoulders and tries to make it like he's Fielding a steel throw a a throw down to second on a steel attempt where you know you you open your body you open your shoulders because you're trying to make a tag there is no need to do this on this play it was not hit that hard there's enough time for Netto to he maybe he's not going to fully jump in front of it like a catch or blocking a wild pitch but you can at least like move half a foot a foot over like come on are you kidding me instead he doesn't the ball hits The Grass it is a wet grass because if you somehow don't know this game was delayed like 3 hours um I don't know the exact timing but it was delayed quite a few hours because of rain so it's wet out there I get it the ball uh skitted off the turf here and it slips under neto's glove once again it's a tough pick play you see him he lifts his glove up like he's trying to pick he's expecting a higher hop instead it skips under his glove okay but the moral of the story is you don't need to make it a pick attempt you can get in front of the hit and have it maybe hit off your leg hit off your arm hit off your glove and sure maybe even if you do that maybe the runner was already sprinting home in Matt vierling from third and he scores with ease but maybe not maybe he hesitates you knock it down you pick it up n has shown he can pick up a ball quickly and throw it home maybe you make the play but no no and this is why it annoys me it feels like a lack of effort with this team that Taylor Ward miss ball he's just he's jogging he's looking up he looks D this team looks like the Bad News Bears man they look like the Bad News Bears like they don't just look like a team who's not talented they look like a team who's checked out and is finding a more embarrassing way to lose every night this team is going to lose a 100 games now I'm going to come out and say it this team has no business losing a 100 games is the roster bad yes is Mike Trout out for the year and hasn't played basically all year yes does Anthony randone play once a year for this team yes but this team is not a 100 loss roster you've got three guys nto Shanel um I'm blanking Netto shenel and ohappy those are three guys that are good enough to give you some hope for the future Kevin po you you telling me the angels are going to lose 100 games in a year where Kevin polar gave you like two months of being a like plus 900 Ops hitter are you kidding me the angels are going to lose 100 games in a year where Tyler Anderson is an All-Star in a year where they plucked a random Bullpen reliever in Jose Serano and turned him into an at times Elite starting pitcher now you've got Johnny quo pitching in 2024 and not even looking that ter ter until the defense already gives up on him there's so many like this team has of course been terrible and of course they've arguably not arguably they've probably been below expectations in what was already an extremely low expectation year but when you look at individual players like sure Brandon Dre has been disgraceful Taylor Ward for the most part been ridiculous Anthony randone doesn't play trout is out I get it I get it but hoppy was Elite for a lot of this year Zack Netto has been I mean he's cooled off the last couple weeks but at the end of the July and early August Zack nle was Elite Chanel's picking it up Joe Adell and Mickey monac are they hitting in the two10 yes but they'll give you a double or triple this team should not be on the verge of a 100 losses and even looking at the record right now they are 54 and 78 they are still not on Pace to lose 100 games but here me Gavin Carlson on August 27th when the Angels still just have to win nine nine games before they lose 22 that's not asking you got to win nine of your next 30 I'm not asking for much and I and yet instead I'm coming here tonight and declaring this team will lose 100 games because they look the worst they have looked all season and no it's not because they actually did the right thing at the deadline and sold every body I mean this is a cat cataclysmic I can't even say the word correctly level of failure how do you not trade everybody at the deadline and get worse the bullpen has gotten better since they traded a stez and Garcia away and this team has gotten worse Anthony randone has gotten healthier this team has gotten worse Taylor Ward has been lifted higher in the lineup this team has gotten worse Zack has been red hot for the most part recently this team has gotten worse how this team doesn't get more than double- digit hits ever the only thing they ever give you double digit of is strikeouts and that's the only good thing that happened tonight is this team only stried out struck out seven times they've been striking out 13 14 15 16 times every game lately so congratulations you only struck out seven times but you had five hits you score two runs and that's not even the the second worst thing that happened tonight that's the third worst thing Gavin's good bad and ugly there's there's no Goods the angels having five hits in two runs is not even the ugly it's the bad Johnny quo giving up six earned runs in five innings isn't even the ugly it's the bad the ugly is this Fielding that I saw this inning in the bottom of the fourth and it seems like an eternity ago cuz since then the the Tigers put up four more runs three in the sixth one in the fifth and it made this game essentially over 62 you know the Angels aren't coming back from that of course they give you a couple base runners in the ninth inning but how in the world with everything that happened this game those aren't even the ugliest the ugly the lowest point is three awful defensive plays in the fourth inning and I don't care I don't I haven't really seen people talking about it of course the announcers don't bring it up that's an error by Taylor Ward Joe Adell that's a embarrassing error that is called an error and Zach Netto that's probably an error too if he got in position and missed it this is an error but because he didn't even get in position they call it a hit three errors in my opinion terrible and on the nettle missplay you see quo go are you kidding me he literally he didn't even hide it he's like oh man he's he quo's made two starts for this team and he looks like he can't take it anymore already he would rather retire he would rather play in Triple A this guy's won a World Series this guy used to be one of the top five 10 pitchers in the league and he'd rather be in Triple A than play for this team right now come on come there's so many reasons why it's unacceptable Ron Washington I like you I think you still should be the manager next year but if you just if you get to 100 losses angels in Ron Washington I got to rethink it this lineup is no good this rotation is terrible this Bullpen isn't great either but this is not a 100 loss team come on man you need to I I think they said he had a team me I don't even know I think they said he had a team meeting today he had a rain delay he had even more time to have Team meetings this team is absolutely lifeless lifeless you got swept in four games by the blue JS who are eight games under 500 or something the tigers are an average team at best 500 record literally coming into this game as average as it gets and you never you never you never look like you have a chance to win this game and you don't just lose you lose in infuriating ways embarrassing Fielding Johnny quo is your pitcher in 2024 and he's not even the low Point why is Brandon Dy still playing baseball by the way 155 average the Ops is below 450 another 0 for three with a strike there's it's unreal it's unreal I don't even know what to say we're going to take a break that I'm ranting I'm going to rant when I come back I'm going to rant in segment three there's nothing games that this is actually the worst Angels team ever that that it's all of these things despite the positives I said if you told me this team was going to lose 100 games I'd tell you trout missed a whole year okay that did happen i' tell you rendon's going to miss the whole year that basically happened but I would tell you Net's going to hit under 250 Chanel's going to hit under 250 hopp is going to hit over under 250 Taylor Ward's going to hit under 250 Uh Kevin polar is you know of course Joe Adell is going to be terrible Mickey monak is going to be terrible they haven't even been they've been terrible but not even as terrible as you would have had to think they would be in order to lose a 100 games and yet they're going to do it they're going to do it guys it's it's it's just it's infuriating it's infuriating we talked about the errors that some and tell please someone tell me in the chat if I'm crazy at at least one of those other mistakes is an error right how is the the Adele play the only error on the scorebook okay the Taylor between Taylor Ward and Neto one of those two guys deserves an error error okay and Johnny quo should not have six earned runs next to his name he should have like four okay now quo was bad he was bad he's three scoreless the fourth inning happens but you can tell this is a guy who's been through World Series starts and he looked like he couldn't emotionally take this and and checks out in the fifth inning he gives up a run in the sixth inning he gives up two runs suddenly this turns into the home run derby um in this one Jake Rogers hits a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth and then the bottom of the sixth how about home run from Riley green walk and then two-run home run from Carrie Carpenter to just break this game open um yeah quo was not great but in the first game he actually looked okay and didn't get any run support today he looked okay until the defense abandoned him and then it all fell apart so I'm not blaming quo once again my take and my opinion on the whole quo thing and why aren't we using a a young you know arm as a starter is that okay a we already are using plenty of starters in the young starters in this rotation right but B oh might be nice to watch a professional Play and Learn from him starters you know whether it's the pitchers whether it's the hitter anybody see a professional see a guy who's won when you're a team where not really anybody on this roster has won before but man you could tell he is furious to be on this team he looked pissed off especially after that Netto mistake my gosh um just embarrassing embarrassing day um and it's just crazy I'm saying this after a 6-2 loss this team has lost games way worse this year this stretch I mean think about it they lost 8 to2 on Sunday they lost uh actually all these games now they look at it they've actually been pretty close two uh 28 loss on Sunday is the biggest loss of the whole uh stretch you lose 3 to one 5 to four 5 to3 3 nothing you win 9 to5 you lose 5 to3 you lose 3 to one and then yes you had the three or the 113 loss um against the Braves but what is the common theme there lowc scoring games the pitching doing enough even in this game even in this game where I'm absolutely furious at the defense where I'm saying quo is terrible this team still only gives up six runs because the bullpen continues to be undoubtedly the best brightest spot of this team and we've got no names pitching now and it's still the bright spot Ryan Miller makes his MLB debut at 28 years old and he's probably the bright part of the team today Zephyr Han Zephyr John I don't even know how to say it he looked great he struck out two of his three guys just like Miller Burke who has not been good at all has even after a strike out the side inning he still has a 752 ER I I just I don't know what to say guys I don't know what to say I don't want know what to say offensively uh did I even say how we scored our runs yeah I talked about a run in the first we had a run in the fifth inning let's see if I can even remember how it was I I I promise you I watch the game but I'm so out of it oh yeah Joe hadel had a nice triple very nice triple line went down the right field line uh used that great speed they had a mistake of Their Own Part throwing the ball in maybe should have been a close play at third but he gets to third thank goodness Taylor Ward gets a sack fly the least you could ask from a veteran who's gives you f minus defense is to get a sack fly it tied the game at two it tied the game at two and then things imploded in the bottom of the fifth and the bottom of the sixth um but yeah this is It's just H I don't even know what to say guys when we come back I'll read your comments I going to be frustrated about my angels we've got the Kansas City Royals and Cleveland Guardians in a battle for first place in a division and they haven't and not even battling while being like under 500 these are good teams but roster wise are they that much better than the no no and let they're competing for first place we're competing to not lose 100 games can't believe it useless trucker says I Surrender I can't believe randone is batting this low I can't either Angels wi is back on his higher Tory Hunter bandwagon I don't know I don't know I still think Ron deserves a chance but like I that someone comes in and they get worse at baseball being around this team right now um Burke 752 ra yes they're gonna have to give away Angel's tickets left six on base one for seven with runners in scoring position Jeff says he appreciates me I appreciate you guys you're the only reason I do this you know that what do you think of Ry does this offseason spend foolish or cheap out um clearly this team you know there was times where I thought this team was a guy or two away you're looking at oh happy playing like he's played before this stretch Netto playing like he's played NE Shanel heating up a little bit I mean there was a point when Reno was looking like one of the best contact hitters in all baseball uh Taylor Ward wasn't abysmal at at certain points and you're thinking hey this team gets Mike Trout back even randone learns how to play baseball and maybe if one of the two between moniac or Adele can figure it out you're just maybe an outfielder away a good DH hitter away and certainly some pitching away for maybe competing no I think we're I think we're a whole culture change still away we're roster and culture change away still so I don't think Arty is going to spend I think honestly he shouldn't spend so knowing him he will that's just that's what the Angels do uh will you be doing any offseason Angels update podcasts uh TBD um I mean my my role here with locked on is to do the postcast after games and of course the super Halo Bros do a fantastic job of giving you five days a week Angels podcast they will certainly be doing that still 5 days a week in the off season I'm sure you know who are and what they do they're on the same network they are fantastic my role is to do the postgame shows that's what I'm doing right now TBD I might do something in the offseason TBD um but certainly I'll still be doing UCLA postgame shows Rams postgame shows uh throughout the fall and early winter uh BC coming here talking about sh and the Dodgers I don't know what they're doing tonight but I'm sure they're doing better than the Angels why was 155 Brandon Drury the DH why not develop someone stepanic maybe totally agree like there's certain things like I get okay quo you got to start him we've used every pitcher we have uh kavadis or no katus is an good example but Taylor Ward whatever he's still like somehow a top nine hitter in this lineup but Brandon Dre is the worst player on this roster he might be the worst player in the system at this point I totally agree there's no reason this guy should be playing let alone DH it's crazy it's just crazy um frustrating the angels have been but I think because of you guys it's still what keeps me excited doing this um Angel wi says you should make your own YouTube channel we'll support for sure that's kind of what I'm hinting at I think that is going to be the Avenue I go on um maybe we'll talk about the angels on there but certainly UCLA um that's the early plan so please support me on that um as well on and I appreciate you from Andrew I appreciate you as well I appreciate all of you so much it's been a rough year for our Angels a really rough year I'm still holding out hope that we don't lose a 100 games that we somehow don't set the record for the worst season in angels history but I don't know we'll see um one last thing I'll say and what has turned into a really long postcast um I'm also in the process of an apartment move I know I've brought it up a little bit um so if in a couple days suddenly the background's different I'm sure I'll explain it on that postcast but I literally like as tomorrow I'm hoping to hear back from my dream apartment um and we'll be moving in hopefully this weekend fingers crossed so there might be some more chaos um so be on the lookout
