Minnesota Golden Gophers 2023 Football Schedule Preview/Projected Record

foreign [Music] what's up sports fans this is the Lucas Ross Sports channel it's time to continue my 2023 schedule preview and projected records for the 2023 college football season we continue them with a Minnesota Golden Gophers there was a schedule last year for the Minnesota Golden Gophers the overall record for this team going 9-4 in 2022 8-4 in the regular season so a really good season last year for this Minnesota team you look at who they played in the non-conference they played New Mexico State Western Illinois and then of course they played Colorado so they didn't have too tough of a non-conference schedule of course Colorado was one of the worst Pac-12 teams from last year and then outside of the Big Ten West they played Michigan State on the road Penn State on the road and then of course they played also the Rutgers here at home so they didn't have two tub of a draw there outside of the Big Ten you know West I mean you know Michigan State didn't really turn out to be as good as we kind of expect them to be and then of course Penn State they turned out to be really good as we thought but the Rutgers they weren't that good as we thought as well so again they didn't have to chuff of a draw there outside of the Big Ten West and you look at who they played on the schedule they did lose you know some good games to Purdue Illinois and Iowa so this is a Minnesota team that probably could have won it all last year in the Big Ten West maybe possibly the Big Ten Championship you never know but could there be could this be their year that they could probably surprise some people and head to the Big Ten Championship let's look now to the 2023 schedule for Minnesota here's a schedule for them heading to 2023 and you look at who they'll play in the non-conference they'll play Eastern Michigan North Carolina then also they'll play Louisiana on September 30th so again not too tough of a non-conference schedule of course that one against North Carolina on the road makes it a little bit tougher but it's not really as bad as it um is like it was last year so North Carolina will be a tough one though on the road that game will be on set from the 16th and you look at Minnesota who they'll play outside the big ten west of course we know they're going to be playing every single Big Ten West team on this schedule in the Big 10 East they'll play Michigan here on October the 7th they'll get that game at home they'll play Michigan State once again on October the 28th they'll also get that game at home and they have to play Ohio State on the road on November 18th so that's a late game in November um obviously kind of like a brutal tough draw there outside of the Big Ten West I mean Big Ten East though really tough this year Michigan and Ohio State both on the schedule good news is to get Michigan at home so that's a winnable game but you get Michigan State at home I mean they might be a better team than they were last year but you never know about them am and then of course you had to play Ohio State on the road that's in late November so maybe Minnesota can you know maybe pull off an upset you never know but I think this um Big 10 East schedule is a pretty tough one for Minnesota let's go game by game now for this Minnesota team so they'll start the season off on August the 31st looks like a week zero game here against Nebraska here at home that's a pretty interesting game to kick off the year with a Big Ten opponent that will be on August the 31st it's a home game for Minnesota then they'll play Eastern Michigan here on September the 9th then they'll play back-to-back Road games here with North Carolina and Northwestern not tough back-to-back Row games I mean North Carolina will be a tough road game though that one will be on set during the 16th of course Drake May coming back is going to be huge for North Carolina and then Northwestern here on the road Northwestern uh obviously one of the most disappointing teams from last year and of course one of the worst teams in the Big Ten as well from last year they'll play this game on the road then they'll play Louisiana after that on September the 30th so they could get kind of a break there before playing Michigan here on October the 7th this will be a pretty interesting matchup kind of looking forward to this game right here Minnesota probably has a really good shot to pull off an upset you never know this will be on October the 7th they'll get a bye week after playing that game then they'll play on the road at Iowa gonna be a really tough place to play here so you have to play Michigan at home and then of course Iowa after that so that's a pretty tough stretch there in the month of October and they'll play Michigan State here on October the 28th and then heading into November they'll play Illinois here on November the 4th that'll be a home game for Minnesota then they'll play back-to-back Row games here once again with Purdue and Ohio State these are tough back-to-back Road games I think these are the toughest back-to-back Road games here for Minnesota we did Purdue schedule preview yesterday so you can go back and watch that video this will be an interesting game here on November the 11th then they'll get that game against Ohio State on November the 18th that is a really tough brutal back to back there for Minnesota and then they'll end things out here with Wisconsin here on November the 25th I'm really looking forward to this matchup Luke fickle coming into Wisconsin going to be a huge one so schedule overall a pretty tough one here for Minnesota of course you got Michigan and Ohio State outside of the Big Ten West and he got North Carolina the non-conference and he strive to play every single Big Ten West team on this schedule so he had the schedule overall pretty tough one for Minnesota let's get now to the projected record here for this Minnesota team this is the scale I use for my projections if it's a one percent game these are games where Minnesota has no chance of winning in uh 20 games in the orange these are games or Minnesota is gonna be about a couple touchdowns of an underdog 40 games in the yellow these are games where Minnesota is going to be about a touchdown of an underdog 50 50 games these will stay in the white games where they can go either way 60 in the purple these are games where Minnesota is going to be favored by about a touchdown 80 percent games in the blue these are games where Minnesota is going to be favored by a couple touchdowns and then the 90 games these are going to be games where Minnesota is going to be favored by more than three touchdowns and we always start with the green games here on my projection so let's start with the easy wins here for Minnesota at 90 percent and that's two of them on the schedule it's Eastern Michigan here and Louisiana two games here in the month of September it's your uh three out of it's two out of your three non-conference games here two easy cupcake games here for Minnesota they have no business to lose both of these games at home especially against Eastern Michigan and Louisiana so kind of expecting Minnesota to roll over in both of these games that's why I got them in the green and they should really be easily big favorites heading into both of these games I don't have any blue games on here for Minnesota but I do have some purple games so we'll go straight to the purple games uh games where Minnesota is going to be favored by about at least a touchdown and I think you've got two of those on the schedule Nebraska and Northwestern on the road Nebraska was a pretty tough one for me but with home Advantage I'm going to say that Minnesota will have the advantage here at home and plus what Nebraska was last year I got to put this one in the purple same thing with Northwestern they were one of the worst Big Ten teams from last year but I got to put this one in the purple because it is on the road you never know what can happen so I think Minnesota will be uh you know touchdown favorites in both of these games in the purple with Nebraska on August the 31st and then September the 23rd against Northwestern we go to the games now where Minnesota is going to be favored or actually an underdog again you know a heavy Underdog or a touchdown or a couple touchdowns of an underdog we don't have any red games on here but we do have a 20 game on here in the orange and that's the Ohio State game on the road this is the only game I see Minnesota really being only a couple touchdowns of an underdog I think Ohio state is definitely their toughest Road game here outside the Big Ten East I mean that's pretty much their only Big Ten East game on the road I think the toughest Road game out of the Big Ten West will be pretty much I Iowa but as of right now this is the only game I see Minnesota being a couple touchdowns of underdogs but it could change to a 40 game by the time we do those predictions in the month of May so but this is really the only game I see Minnesota uh being a couple touchdowns of underdogs so that's the only game I have in the orange we go to the games now and the yellow games where Minnesota is going to be about a couple touch or a touchdown of an underdog in the 40 percent and I just got two games here on this schedule it's North Carolina on the road and then Michigan here at home so I got him as underdogs in both of these games with a non-conference game against North Carolina on the road and then Michigan here at home I mean based off of what North Carolina was last year making it to the ACC Championship that's why I got to put it here in the yellow but it could switch to a 50 50 game I think this will be a 50 50 game by the time you get into a later part of the off season uh same thing with Michigan that's a game that Minnesota can win that's a game that you know they can pull off an upset in you never know what can happen I think this will be a game where they can go either way perhaps but as of right now I'm gonna put in the yellow just based off of where Michigan was last year making the Big Ten championship and the rest of the game's here for Menace soda on the schedule Iowa Michigan State Illinois Purdue and Wisconsin I think these are all 50 50 games games where they can go either way Iowa especially a tough place to play on the road I think that's a game that can go either way Purdue obviously tough one to call we don't know how good Purdue's going to be I think this will be a game that can go either way still and then the home games on here Michigan State wasn't that good last year I probably should have put it in the purple I'm gonna favor I'm gonna like make this one a 50 50 game because I think Michigan state will be better than they were last year maybe it's just a step back for them from last year Illinois obviously a tough one to call based off of where they were last year Wisconsin obviously a game that you know can go either way I know they have a first year head coach but I think this will still be a 50 50 game because it's also in the later part of November so I think all these games right here are all 50 50 games how many games do I see them winning out of those 50 50 games I see them winning probably two out of those five games here in the the white maybe three out of those five games you never know maybe they could lose only you know maybe just one of those games but maybe they can win all of them you never know it could happen you never know about Minnesota sometimes they could be a really good sneaky good Big Ten team coming into 2023 but let's get to the projected record now not my official prediction this is simply a projection based on this schedule so if you look at the game set Minnesota's favorite inning and the green and the purple games and also if you look at the games that they're underdogs in that orange game and the yellow also with those two games and then of course the 50 50 games you get an overall projected record for this Minnesota team at seven and five or 2023 7-5 is the projection here for Minnesota I mean they can go eight and four you never know you know eight and four is possible maybe um six and six is possible just because of how this tough the schedule is because you got to remember they played North Carolina on the road out of the Dawn conference then they'll play Michigan and Ohio State out of the west or actually out of the East so that will be that will be a tough stretch there you know in the month of October with Iowa on the road as well and then November will come into a tough one there as well they'll play back-to-back Road games there on that schedule but those are their toughest back-to-back games in the month of November with Purdue and Ohio State but seven and five is the overall projected record for this Minnesota team let me guys know what you think about this Minnesota team what do you think their best case scenario is and
