Tony Goldwyn hello Chicago and hello to everyone tuning in from all across America welcome to the first night of the Democratic National Convention now how is that for an opening act I'm just saying now as our vice president just said over the next four days we will be bringing folks together from all around the country people from every Walk of Life to talk about this nation we love and about a candidate who has devoted her life to Public Service who never shies away from a righteous fight and who always stands up for the people we are going to talk about the choice America fa in this election it's a choice not just between two very different candidates but between two very different Futures we will hear from everyday Americans about what is truly at stake in this campaign the future of our middle class the future of Reproductive Rights the future of our climate our security our schools the future of our freedom the future of our very democracy we will see the vision of our nominee it is a vision of stability security and opportunity for everyday Americans where we continue to grow this economy by growing the middle class and where the safety of our children our families and our communities are a fundamental civil right it is a future where instead of scoffing at allies and fawning over dictators our president stands up for our friends faces down our adversaries and American democracy remains a Beacon of Hope and inspires the world to take on our biggest challenges together we'll learn the story of a leader who has dedicated her life to making doing the work of making good on the promise of America a leader who understands the middle class because she grew up in the middle class a leader who has taken on powerful interests at every step of her career and fought for the rights and freedoms of all of us and then of course we will hear again from the Democratic nominee herself the next president of the United States of America comma Harris because she had has a message for us it is a message that's joyful not mean-spirited a message of Public Service not self-service a message of optimism and opportunity not chaos and division a message that has woken us up to who we are to who we've always been because Americans are not a cynical people we are not small-minded and whether we realize it right now or not we are currently already writing a new chapter of the American story and we can dream as big as we want so I just want to ask you are you excited yeah well good are you ready okay well the I challenge you to make this the moment you get off the sidelines and into the game so I want you to text join to 30330 and get involved because when we fight what happens we win and we are going to win this thing together and while we're doing it we are going to have a whole lot of fun so let's get started thank NBA coach Steve Kerr you thank you so much thank you it is so fun to be back here in the United Center and as you guys know a lot of good stuff has happened in this building especially in the 9s you young people Google Michael Jordan and you can read all about it okay so there was an amazing vibe in this building back in those days and I feel that same winning Spirit here tonight so the last time I was in a packed basketball arena was in Paris France nine days ago some of the best players on Earth 12 incredible American men came together to win Olympic gold and the next night I was back in that same building watching 12 more of the best players on Earth our incredible American women do the same thing and I cannot think of a better metaphor for what this country is all about than the way Team USA came together at the Olympics we had players from across our wonderful country players who have trained and fought relentlessly shed tears trying to beat one another throughout their careers joining forces to wear the red white and blue and when we won the American flag raised to the rafters the national anthem playing gold medals draped around the necks of our players whose hands were held over their hearts it was the proudest moment of my life thank you thank you now I I could never have imagined that a few days later I would receive an invitation to step into a different kind of Arena and so here I am I know I know very well that speaking out about politics these days comes with risks I can see the shut up and whistle tweets being fired off as we speak but I also knew as soon as I was asked that it was too important as an American citizen not to speak up in an election of this magnitude the reason I said yes to speaking here tonight is that as a coach and former player as a husband a son a father even a grandfather and as an American I believe in a certain kind of leadership I believe that leaders must display dignity I believe that leaders must tell the truth I believe that leaders should be able to laugh at themselves I believe leaders must care for and love the people they are leading I believe leaders must possess knowledge and expertise but with the full awareness that none of us has all the answers and in fact some of the best answers often come from members of the team and if you look for those qualities in your friends or your boss or an employee or your child's teacher or your mayor and shouldn't you want those same qualities in your president and when you think about it that way this is no contest with KLA Harris and Tim Walls I see all those qualities they have devoted their lives to serving other people whether vice president Harris was defending her community in the courtroom or Governor walls was inspiring the Next Generation in the classroom or on the field for that matter by the way coach to coach that guy's awesome although I have to say coach Wall's way too much Reliance on the blitz in '99 against mano East you had a strong defensive line I would have played more press coverage with your corners and then dropped the safeties into a Tampa two that's just me sorry I wanted you to know how I feel every day of the NBA season all right but listen The Joy The Compassion the commitment to our country that we saw at the Olympics that is what KLA Harris and Tim Walls have and it is is what our country needs leadership real leadership not the kind that seeks to divide us but the kind that recognizes and celebrates our common purpose think about what our team achieved with 12 Americans in Paris putting aside rivalries to represent our country now imagine what we could do with all 330 million of us playing on the same team not as not as Democrats not as Republicans not as Libertarians but as Americans who know the greatness of this nation doesn't come from any one of us but from each of us doing our part to build a more perfect union that vision is what this campaign is all about it's why I'm here tonight and it's why I'll be getting out every day to help people get out and vote on November 5th and elect KLA Harris and Tim Walls as the next president and vice president of the United States and and after the results are tallied that night we can in the words of the great Steph Curry we can tell Donald Trump night night thank "The View" co-host Ana Navarro you bu Chicago so tell me are you excited wow what energy what a moment I have to tell you I will never stop being the little Refugee girl who came to this country at the age of eight thank you for inviting me to be here welcome to the second night of the Democratic National Convention let me tell you about the kamla Harris I know she is legitimately a joyful optimistic leader she cares about policy yes but she also cares about people and how that policy affects real people not just the members of maral Lago and you know what else Kamala Harris she likes dogs and my dog chaa likes her dogs are good judges of character character so are cats we cannot elect a president who does not like dogs or hangs around with people who shoot them now let's be serious Donald Trump and his minions call Kamala a communist I know communism I fled communism from Nicaragua when I was 8 years old I don't take it lightly and let me tell you what communist dictators do and it's never just for one day they attack the Free Press they call them the enemy of the people like Ortega does in Nicaragua they put their unqualified relatives in cushy government jobs so they can get rich of their positions like the castros do in Cuba and they refuse to accept legit legitimate elections when they lose and call for violence to stay in power like Maduro is doing right now in Venezuela now you tell me something do any of those things sound familiar is there anybody running for president who reminds you of that and I know one thing it's not Kamala Harris that is not the American the America we love it's not the land of Freedom we treasure last night we heard President Biden say that he loves his job but he loves his country more every American needs to love our country more every American has the duty to put our country first country first before party country first before political ambition country country first before have it and in this election putting country first means one thing and one thing only voting for kamla Harris and that that is what this night is about that is what we're going to talk about tonight so you know what let's get it started let's get this Fiesta [Applause] Social media influencer Nabela Noor going what calls me here tonight is Hope as a woman who has struggled with fertility I have not always been hopeful but today I am I'd always dreamt of motherhood and coming from a large Bangladeshi American family I imagined it'd be easy it wasn't my husband and I tried to conceive we failed we tried and failed again and again and again for six long years finally I got pregnant we were Overjoyed but then I miscarried I was devastated it was only after sharing my story online and hearing from women about their experiences with IVF that I felt a tiny glimmer of hope so I started the IVF process but just just a few weeks before my egg retrieval I learned I was pregnant today we have two beautiful daughters but this is not everyone's ending for many women IVF is the only choice that choice and more is at stake in November the freedom to plan your family the hope of having a family at all I'm here to stand stand with everyone fighting for our reproductive freedoms because my daughters and yours deserve every option every hope every possible future to anyone listening who is struggling to start a family you are not alone we will not let you lose hope because when we come together to raise our voices with love we win thank you good evening Mindy Kaling everyone hello hello and welcome welcome to the third night of the Democratic National Convention my name is Mindy kaing thank you for those of you who don't know me I am an incredibly famous jenzy actress who you might recognize from the office thank you the mindi project or as the woman who courageously outed kamla Harris as Indian in an Instagram cooking video yes you're welcome I am so proud to be here supporting my friend but the real reason I am here is that deep down I truly believe that as a woman of color and as a single mother of three it is incredibly important that I be appointed ambassador to Italy that's how this works right that's like why I'm here I've never been I'm dying to go and guys I just really need a break um I know it's not the priority tonight but just think about it I am actually here because I have known the vice president for a long time and I want to tell you one a story about one of the first times I ever met her she wasn't Madam vice president then she was my Senator and we were filming a video where she came to my home to cook doses a South Indian dish yes it's not every day that a senator comes over and I was pretty nervous but when she arrived we immediately did it off we talked about the love we have for our moms who had both passed away from cancer both of our mothers were immigrants from India who came to America and committed their lives to serving others my mother SWAT became an OBGYN thank you kamla's mother shimala became a scientist with a PhD who dedicated her life to trying to find a cure for cancer and after speaking to kamla it was clear to me that Shima had passed down the same optimism and fearlessness to her daughter but the thing I remember the most about the vice president is that KLA Harris Can Cook guys she was so much better than me but she also knew that my family was watching so as she gently correct Ed my sloppy Dosa making she was complimenting me every step of the way making sure that my daughter kit heard how good of a cook I am she had no desire to be seen as better than anyone else she just wanted my kid to be impressed with her mom and when she finally and when she finally did into my dosea she looked at me and said M really good and then never took another bite again yes yes but it is that warmth that generosity of spirit that I know she will bring to the White House as our next president kamla Harris cares deeply about other people she will fight to protect our freedoms because those are the values that her mother passed down to Stevie Wonder her this year I've prayed very hard for peace to come to our world's Nations but also to each one of our hearts even though our hearts have been beaten and broken Beyond prayer I know the important of action and now is the time to understand where we are and what it will take to win wi the broken hearts win the dis chanted wi the angry Spirits now is the time this is the moment to remember when you tell your children where you were and what you did as we as we stand between history's pain in tomorrow's promises we must choose courage over complacency it is time to get up and go vot listen the choice is clear clear than anyone else is saying did you hear me clear than anyone else is saying you feel me we need to choose Joy over anger kindness over recrimination and peace over War every time we must choose to be above the ugly world words the hateful anger and the division those words and anger create we must keep on keeping on until we truly are a United people of these United States and then and then we will reach our higher ground right are y'all ready are y'all ready to reach your Higher Ground are you ready to reach a higher higher higher ground tell me I want to hear you again are you ready are we ready because you know we need KLA Harris yes we do and we need a great man as we do have as a future vice president you know that so you know what I'm depending on you to do as Le would say the right thing are y'all Kenan Thompson ready all right all right all right what's up DNC all right y'all remember this big old book from before when Colorado governor Jared polus ripped a page out of it this is Project 20125 the Republican blueprint for a second Trump term it is a yeah yeah boo it is a real document that you can read for yourself at kamah harris.com project 2025 you ever seen a document that could kill a small animal and democracy at the same time here it is you know how when you download an app and there are hundreds of pages there that you don't read it's just the terms and conditions and you just click agree right well these are the terms and conditions of a second Trump presidency you vote for him you vote for all of this let's take a look all right do we got Matt here with us tonight is Matt here hey there he is Matt how are you sir all right Matt Now Matt I understand that you work as an AV Tech in Nevada and you make a decent hourly rage is that [Applause] [Music] right oh I don't know if we can hear Matt can we hear Matt so who's going to fix it keep speaking Matt till we can hear you uh-huh okay that's good I guess we're going to move on from [Applause] Matt and this is Becky Becky can we hear you hi Keenan it's great to be here thank you all right good now you're married correct I am me and my wife have been together for about 8 years oh that's amazing very very cute thanks but I have got some bad news for you I hate that on page 584 project 2025 calls for the elimination of protections for lgbtq plus Americans so yeah right back to the Stone Age I'm afraid so right back to the stoneage that's terrible yeah it is thank you Becky for being here and making that wonderful Point all right next up we have Nirvana Nirvana are you with us and your people are with us as well all right good now Nirvana I understand that you are on insulin to manage your diabetes yes yes and thanks to President Biden and vice president Harris I only PID $35 a month for my insulin that is great that is great but on page 465 project 2025 calls for millions of people like yourself to pay more for prescription drugs like insulin why why well I guess maybe to help big farmer make more money that they can donate to Republican politicians I assume yeah that makes sense yes unfortunately it does make sense all right let's talk to Anita Anita are you there yes hello Anita hello and Anita what do you do for a living I'm an OBGYN who delivers babies and does surgery an OBGYN she is an OBGYN that delivers babies uh-oh uh oh yeah it's bad news isn't it it sure is on page 459 project 2025 resurrects a law from the 1800s called the Comm stock act to ban abortion Nationwide and throw health care providers in jail oh my God that is awful yes it is awful all right let's do one more is Sharia with us Sharia are you there hey Keenan I'm here yes Sharia I love it all right let's talk to you um I understand that you work for the federal government yes sir I'm in the United States Department of Education I'm a proud civil servant and a proud Union president she works for the Department of Education and she's a proud civil servant well unfortunately for you on page 78 project 2025 calls for president Trump to purge the Civil Service of everyone who isn't a Maga loyalist are you a Maga loyalist now Kina absolutely not I I'm just I'm just asking I mean you might as well be because also page 319 calls for the complete elimination of the Department of Education I yeah there there's a there's a bunch of stuff in here but that's all we have time for at the moment just remember everything that we just talked about is very real it is in this book you can read it online at kamah harris.com pro202 and most importantly you can stop it from ever happening by electing kamla Harris as the next president of the United Oprah Winfrey States good evening everybody who says you can't go home again after watching the Obamas last night that was some epic fire wasn't it some epic fire we're now so fired up we can't wait to leave here and do something and what we're we're going to do is elect Colo Harris as the next president of the United States I am so honored to have been asked to speak on tonight's theme about what matters most to me to you and all of us Americans freedom there are people who want you to see our country as a nation of us against them people who want to scare you who want to rule you people who'd have you believe that books are dangerous and assault rifles are safe that there's a right way to worship and a wrong way to love people who seek first to divide and then to conquer but here's the thing when we stand together it is impossible to conquer Us in the words of an extraordinary American the late Congressman John Lewis he said no matter what what ship our ancestors arrived on we are all in the same boat now Congressman Lewis knew very well how far this country has come because he was one of the brilliant Americans who helped to get us where we are but he also knew that the work is not done the work will never be done because Freedom isn't free America is an ongoing project it requires commitment it requires being open to the hard work and the heart work of democracy and every now and then it requires standing up to Life's bullies I know this I've lived in Mississippi in Tennessee in Wisconsin Maryland Indiana Florida Hawaii Colorado California and California and Sweet Home Chicago Illinois I have actually traveled this country from the Redwood Forest love those redwoods to The Gulfstream Waters I've seen racism and sexism and income inequality and division I've not only seen it at times I've been on the receiving end of it but more often than not what I've witnessed and experienced are human beings both conservative and liberal who may not agree with each other but who'd still help you in a heartbeat if you were in trouble these are the people who make me proud to say that I am an American they are the best of America and despite what some would have you think we are not so different from our neighbors when a house is on fire we don't ask about the homeowner's race or religion we don't wonder who they're partner is or how they voted no we just try to do the best we can to save them and if the place place happens to belong to a childless cat lady well we try to get that cat out too cuz we are a country of people who work hard for the money we wish our brothers and sisters well and we pray for peace we know all the old tricks and tropes that are designed to distract us from what actually matters but we are Beyond ridiculous tweets and lies and Foolery these are complicated times people and they require adult conversation and I welcome those conversations because civilized debate is vital to democracy and it is the best of America now over the last couple of nights we have all seen brave people walk onto this stage and share their most private pain Amanda and Josh Kate Hadley they told us their stories of rape and incest and near-death experiences from having the state deny them the abortion that their doctor explained was medically necessary and they've told us these things for one reason and that is to keep what happened to them from happening to anybody else because if you do not have autonomy over this over this if you cannot control when and how you choose to bring your children into this world and how they are raised and supported there is no American Dream the women and men who are battling to keep us from going back to a time of desperation and shame and Stone Cold fear they are the new Freedom Fighters and make no mistake they are the best of America I want to talk now about somebody who's not with us tonight Tessy Pros Williams was born in New Orleans not long after the Supreme Court rulle that segregated Public Schools were unconstitutional that was in 1954 same year I was born but I didn't have to head to first grade at the all-white McDon 19 school with a US Marshall by my side like Tessy did and when I got to school the building wasn't empty like it was for Tessy you see rather than allowing Madonna to be integrated parents pull their kids out of the school leaving only Tessy and two other little black girls Gail etan and Leona itate to sit in a classroom with the windows papered over to block snipers from attacking their six-year-old bodies Tessy passed away six weeks ago and I tell this story to honor her tonight because she she like Ruby Bridges and her friends Leona and Gail the New Orleans four they were called they broke barriers and they paid dearly for it but it was the grace and guts and courage of women like Tessy privos Williams that paved the way for another young girl who 9 years later became part of the second class to inte at the public schools in Berkeley California and it seems to me that at school and at home somebody did a beautiful job of showing this young girl how to challenge the people at the top and empower the people at the bottom they showed her how to look at the world and see not just what is but what can be they instilled in her a passion for justice and freedom and the Glorious fighting Spirit necessary to pursue that passion and soon and very soon soon and very soon we're going to be teaching our daughters and sons about how this child of an Indian mother and a Jamaican father two idealistic energetic immigrants immigrants how this child grew up to become the 47th president of the United States that is the best of America you know you know let me tell you this this election isn't about us and them it's about you and me and what we want our futures to look like there are choices to be made when we cast our ballot now there's a certain candidate that says if we just go to the polls this one time that we'll never have to do it again well you know what you're looking at a registered independent who's proud to vote again and again and again because I'm an American and that's what Americans do voting is the best of America and I have always since I was eligible to vote I've always voted my values and that is what is needed in this election now more than ever so I'm calling on all you Independence and all you undecided you know this is true you know I'm telling you the truth that values and character matter most of all all in leadership and in life and more than anything you know this is true that decency and respect are on the ballot in 2024 and and just plain Common Sense Common Sense tells you that kamla Harris and Tim walz can give us decency and respect they're the ones to give it to us so we are Americans we are Americans let us choose loyalty to the Constitution over loyalty to any individual because because that's the best of America and let us choose optimism over cynicism because that's the best of America and let us choose inclusion over retribution let us choose Common Sense over nonsense because that's the best of America and let us choose the sweet promise of Tomorrow over the bitter return to yesterday we won't go back we won't be set back pushed back bullied back kicked back we're not going back not going back we're not going back so let us choose let us choose truth let us choose honor and let us choose Joy because that's the best of America but more than anything else let us choose Freedom why because that that's the best of America we're all Americans and together let's all choose Kamala haris thank you Chicago thank Kerry Washington you welcome welcome to the final night of the Democratic National Convention the last three nights have been extraordinary and tonight we hear from our next president kamla Harris now as I stand here I know that there are folks on social media already saying go back to your TV show shut up and act but I am not here tonight as an actor I am here as a mother as a daughter as a proud Union member I'm here I am here as the granddaughter of immigrants as a black woman descended from enslaved people I am here tonight because I am an American and because I am a voter and because we the people are stronger when all our voices are heard look I know that I am the one standing on this stage but I am not the lead character in this story you are all of you you are The Messengers you are the fixers dare I say it you are the Olivia popes you are the superheroes saving this democracy it is you not me who have the greatest power to convince your loved ones to vote so just like Michelle Obama told us let's do something let's make a video Everybody take out your phones everybody take out your phones we're going to make a moment can somebody bring me my phone I want to capture this historic moment and share it with the people that we love oh hi over here okay we going to take this video guys we're all going to take it together we're going to post it to social media text your friends send this message out into the world when I say when we fight you're going to say are you ready okay let's record we're recording you ready Tony yep I'm ready okay ready when we fight when we fight when we fight are you ready for kamla Harris to win good because when Kamala wins America wins we did it we did it Joe thank you Tony I don't get to St no you got to go bye everybody Tony Goldwin ladies and gentlemen okay so listen it's come to my attention that there are some folks who struggle or pretend to struggle with the proper pronunciation of our future president's name so hear me out confusion is understandable disrespect is not so tonight we are going to help everyone get it right here to help me are some very special [Applause] guests thank you ladies can you tell us your names hello everybody my name is Amara and my name is Leela her little sister and what are you here to do to teach you how to your Auntie's name okay so how do you pronounce it first you say comma like a common a sentence then you say la like la la la la la put it together and it's one 2 three comma all right so let's practice let's practice everybody on the everybody over here say karma everybody over here say la [Applause] together for president San Francisco last week and yeah look at D.L. Hughley them hey now hey Chicago how y'all doing what's happened in California now now wait wait where those aka's at where they at you know what in three months ain't going to be no living with y'all I I I can tell I can tell you this I don't blame Donald Trump for not wanting to bake Cela I've been married to a black woman for 40 years and I ain't won one debate I'm 0 93,000 now of course Trump is saying that kamla isn't black I guarantee you this Kam's been black a lot longer than Trump's been a Republican and if you keep sliding in the PO the way he is the only thing the only way he can keep kamla out of the White House is if he buys it and refuses to rent it to [Applause] it of course Kamala is getting broad support they got black men for kamla white men for kamla Latinos and Asians for kamla they even have Republicans for kamla Republicans will I guess Donald Trump will finally know what it's like when you get left for a younger woman but uh seriously KLA knows the truth about the American dream that hard work is not alone uh enough uh hard work alone is not enough to succeed that you need access and information and opportunity and she knows that some folks are off deny those very things as president she will give each and every one of us a fair shot in life but I but I have to admit I didn't always believe that I mean if you told me the 15-year-old me would be on stage supporting a prosecutor and a teacher there is no way that I would have believed you but because of that I made assumptions about kamla's record and I often repeated them to a lot of people then one day kamla invited me to her house she put her hand on my shoulder and she asked me to do some research something I had never done something a lot of people I know had never done before imagine attacking someone's character without a single Google search um so I did what I should have done in the first place I I learned that she had done for us exactly what she promised to I believe that you're apology should be as loud as your accusation and I'm here apologizing in front of the whole damn world I am I was wrong I was wrong and I'm so very glad I was wrong because KLA you give me hope for the future a future where my grandchildren Nola and Stevie had the freedom to control their own bodies where they have the opportunity to go as far as their wits and their talents would take them that future ladies and gentlemen is possible but only if we let KLA Harris as the 47th president of the United States of America I will say this to you the best piece of advice I've ever gotten in my entire life is you don't have to know what you will do just know what you want and we won't go NBA champion Steph Curry back what's up everybody Stephen Curry here I know you all know I play for the Golden State Warriors but man what a great honor it was to represent Team USA and go out there and win that gold medal at the Olympics this summer and that Unity on and off the court reminded us all that together we can do all things and continue to inspire the world that's why I believe that kamla as president could bring that Unity back and continue to move our country forward this is about preserving hope and and belief in our country making sure families can be taken care of during the most precious times I got to visit Kamala with my team in the White House last year and I can tell you one thing I knew then I definitely know now the overal office and suits are well so in the words of Michelle Obama do something go vote be active let's show out in November like never before it's been an honor for me to represent our country it's an honor to support kamla so let's all do our Eva Longoria part God [Applause] bless hello Chicago yes I am so excited to be here tonight what an honor to be part of this historic moment and y'all are part of it look I have known kamla Harris for more than a decade and she comes from a family a lot like mine and I'm sure a lot like yours we were both raised knowing that no one was going to hand us anything especially as women that we were going to have to touch every wrong of the ladder to get ahead we were going to have to work really hard now she worked in McDonald's but I worked de Wendy's and look at us now uh you see kamla and I were able to see Beyond the Horizon because our families supported Our Big Dreams well guess what As Americans we're all part of one big family some Familia and as Familia we have to have each other's back we have have to support each other's dreams because kamala's success is our success and she supports us to dream big too so let me tell you in the Latino community in our community we have a saying which means yes it means yes we can but tonight I'm here to tell you yes she can so we're going to say she so when when someone asks you is she ready to lead this country forward we're going to say she said when somebody says is she qualified for the job we're going to say she said when somebody asks is she going to be the first female president of the United States we're going to say she said with it our voices our vote we're going to decide this election and let me tell you the energy tonight isn't just here in Chicago it's all across the country people are gathered at watch parties everywhere to celebrate kamla Harris say hello yes all right we know how to work so let's get to work let's turn all of this enthusiasm and joy into action between now and November 5th let's go she she [Applause]
