about this game we're now past Florida State as as Bill O'Brien says it's time to move on and to talk about this upcoming weekend's matchup with the dude we've got Mitch wolf Mitch how's it going it's going well I think I'm still Concerns Over BC's Game Against Duquesne riding the high from Monday night's game um but as you said Bill Ryan says you got to turn the page and it's on to an FCS team that I think BC should have more success with than the one they faced last year all right so let's talk about duanes what is a Duke by the way um for them I think it's well I know for um James Madison they're also the Dukes but it's more of a bulldog um I know know that duain as a per he was basically one of the uh robber barons of the 19th century I believe um I'm trying to find what their mascot actually is it looks like a lion wearing a top hat okay so I'm actually well now I'm seeing ones with just a dude wearing a top hat well I will say I will put it up on the website because I feel like we need to see this but why I'll let you talk a little bit talk a little bit about Duane while I get this going yeah so I watched a few Duane games just to try to uh see what they were about you know this is obviously a game that is going to matter for BC at the end of the season but uh watching them you get you look if you look at them from a record standpoint like oh they you know won their division or their conference last year they I think they were seven and six they you know played pretty well in conference then they lost in the first round of the FCS playoffs and in the games they lost last year they played quite poorly and two of those losses came at the hands of FBS teams in West Virginia and Coastal Carolina and then when they played young Town state in the FCS playoffs they got beat 40 to7 so when I looked do a little deeper into stats and watched some of their games it became clear that this is kind of a it's a very it's a high variance team and a big part of that is that their offense was huckit Chuck it football last year their quarterback Darius pones LED all division one quarterbacks with I think at least 50 dropbacks in his average depth of Target which was 15.8 yards okay so if you're watching on YouTube it is a line and a top hat kind of a teal teal and blue line which is interesting it's like theor antifreeze yeah yeah it's like a it's like a line that is a combination of Sully from Monsters Inc but uh anyways um they were just chucking the ball down field and even though they did that a ton they I have a I have a kind of a fun stat here uh oh no sorry that's my different preview but they lost both their leading wide receivers um to one to the NFL or just out of Eligibility another transferred I think to UMass and they didn't really replace him that well and the offensive line is also really bad um and a lot of injuries too um but they were rotating guys and it was just they just could not protect so basically you know quarterback gets the ball runs around for a second and just heaves it as far as he can and that was basically their entire offense last year they didn't run the ball super well um on defense they're very aggressive when it comes to blitzing but they're also very under siiz they're very susceptible to the Run game especially from you know FCS opponents that are better and FBS opponents um terms of personnel on defense they're I think let me try to remember I think they're they're replacing both outside cornerbacks uh they bring back both safeties um it's kind of just just comparing it to Holy Cross where there was a a very cohesive vision and you could tell that Bob chzn really had that team rolling and last year they took a step backwards because they were kind of coming off a bit just a year where things went well for them you know they they won some close games they lost some good players but last year you know Holy Cross didn't do as well as they did two years ago but obviously they took BC right down to the wire um and everything from looking at everything Duane has I just don't think that they have the personnel and the coaching to match up that even though Jerry Schmidt their coach has been there forever um he is one of the most highly decorated coaches in the FCS um I'm trying to find here we go so last year he w Jerry smid won a coach NEC coach of the year his second time and was a finalist for FCS coach of the year for the third time he has led Duane to winning seasons 15 out of 19 seasons and is currently holding a 120 83 record at Duan so guy's a good coach but I just think that this team just doesn't have a lot of talent herb size Duquesne's Struggles Against FBS Teams so they just played Toledo last week yes tell tell me what you saw or heard about from that game yeah I watched that game and they lost 49 to10 and frankly I thought that it it could have been a lot worse uh firstly Toledo they they let off the gas a bit in the second half and the one drive that was successful I think it was the thir touchdown drive for Duan I think on one of the first plays they I think it was third and long they hit a deep pass where the Defenders kind of just lost the receiver down the sideline um and he had a big catch like 35 yards two plays later they had a run play where the running back fumbled and the ball basically got Advanced by everybody trying to pick it up but not actually being able to secure it got Advanced another 15 yards the two plays after that they get a defensive pass interference and then two plays later they're in the end zone so you have some things go your way to get the touchdown Drive they got a field goal um but you know if if you have a more standard Drive I don't think that touchdown Drive happens and it was just it was pretty bad like you could tell even Toledo was just outmatching them in terms of just athleticism and physicality they had some long touchdowns um and I will say the one thing that I thought Dain did well was they were able to rush the passer pretty well but that's because they were blitzing really aggressively I think they Blitz on 48% of the opponent's dropbacks which is crazy high and from what I understand Toledo is also breaking in five new starters on the offensive line um two of them had played for Toledo last year but like barely two were well one was a transfer for FCS school one was a transfer from Ohio State who hadn't played like at all and the other one was a red Shir freshman who red shirted last year so brand new offensive line had some issues dealing with the blitz it's you know it's to be expected buto kind of figured that out and then they were able all right in a moment it's an FCS team it's one where BC should win by a lot I want to ask Mitch what he wants what he's different ACC hosts two of them are the wolf pack uh about all the ACC news and I want you guys to get over there and check it out get their takes on acc B BC and the ACC and let yourself be be known and for the folks that have been asking why I'm not on that I'll tell you exactly why I haven't been on it it's because they recorded at the worst time humanly possible they recorded at like six o'clock in the afternoon I can't do that I've told them that I can't do it so I might be on at some point but I wouldn't expect it anytime soon but they're great go check them out anyways let's talk about this game uh you know i i i i Mitch I know earlier this week you were saying you're worried a little bit just because you're you know you've watched enough Boston College football to to worry about it but realistically what are you g to be looking for and what do you want to see in this game from Boston College so the thing that I want to see BC's Passing Game Strategy and I'm not confident if I'll if they're going to let me see it is when I watched the Florida State game I thought one of the things that I thought BC struggled with was I did not think their receivers did a good job of creating separation and that some of that is to be forgiven because they're playing against Florida State who for all their faults they probably one of the most athletic and better secondaries in the ACC so I can understand it um and I and again I still thought Will O'Brien will long did a good job of drawing up and calling play to try to get them separation they just weren't doing a good enough job of it and then that leads to my second issue which was I thought when given the opportunity to do like a true dropback play where Thomas C reads his defense and has to throw the ball to receiver Beyond line of scrimmage I thought he was pretty hesitant to do that and I think part of that was by Design from the coaching staff in that they told him hey we don't you don't especially when they were up by up up by a few scores at that point don't put the ball In Harm's Way if you you know try to read the defense but if it's not there get out and scramble and to his credit he did that he would read the defense he would try to sit there and find something and if it wasn't there he would then scramble which did lead to some sacks but I would not say they they were not really the offensive Line's fault and usually they were only for a loss of one or two yards so I would like to see BC open up the passing game a little more let castalanos throw the ball um and not just you know wheel routes and screens and what have you um but because they are eventually playing they because they're playing Missouri the next week and then they get into the ACC play later in the year I would imagine they don't want to put tons of stuff on tape now there are certainly passing Concepts you can run that everybody runs that you can run out of pretty simple formations that are not going to give away anything and I think maybe they'll do a little bit that because next week when they do play Missouri they they need to have passing offense ready to go because even if they do a good job of controlling the game clock by running the ball I really think def the defense is going to struggle to slow down Miss's passing attack because that is on it is a whole different ball game than playing for State's passing attack so they need to kind of be ready to play a shootout and if the passing game is not doesn't at least have a tuneup game against an FCS team then you know BC could be out of that game pretty fast so I want to see them get The Passing game going um to get Thomas calan least warmed up like okay like I feel a lot more comfortable in this new offense when I'm actually ask to throw the ball because once we get in the real games like he's going to need to do that like not every game is going to kind of go as well as the for State game did now we're gonna see the offensive line and I I said it on yesterday's episode Bill O'Brien didn't say Logan Taylor was gonna play he says he's back that could mean he's at practice that that that tells me he's not playing and I would not play him not not in a million years especially after how well Dwayne Alec performed in his in his stad against State and as I've said du kan's defens like I know we kind of rag on Florida State oh they're the best defensive line of the country they got pushed around there's still multiple NFL players in that defensive line and duaine does not have anything close to NFL players in their defensive line so so that that's my answer that I was asking for so you you would keep you would play I would think playing Alec and then I I would honestly from my perspective having Taylor practicing this yes oh yeah for sure and that way he's getting up to speed and honestly probably BC's twos are probably going to be better than Duane's 1es anyway and I mean you could put I mean they might I wouldn't even mind just putting Kevin Klein in there just because he is he is about the size of two of duan's defensive lineman put together so just you know they should be able to bowl over them in the Run game without a ton of issue um this is a team that just struggled to stop Toledo's Run game and you know they again too's offensive line was dealing with a lot of new pieces uh they have a new quarterback they have running back so that that basically now I think about it the entire offense except at the tight end is pretty much new so you know they had some hiccups early but they were able to get rolled and you know BC has a and their quarterback could run a little bit they did some run stuff with him and I was okay well if Duan is struggling to stop this guy running a Matt quarterback castan is gonna run all over these guys although I don't hope they don't run him too much because you don't want to risk him getting injured against an FCS opponent so I have my name I'm gonna watch for and I think fans are gonna have fun watching for him as I think turbo Richard's gonna have a lot to do in this game oh yeah yeah and he had some he had some very nice plays against Florida State you know we we talked we you mentioned him wrote about him I mentioned him and Camp as being really impressive and you know first Carry against Florida state has a 15 yard gain had some other nice plays so yeah I think you're going to see him get a lot of carries it'll be good to see guys like Dr trell Jones and Jordan McDonald get carries later in the game um and honestly like because of how well things get Florida State like I just want to see that be replicated in terms of the quality of play on both sides of the ball there's nothing really where I'm like I want to see this because I didn't see enough of it um except maybe BC's run defense because they just didn't have to defend many designed runs against Florida State but again because I think Duane's offensive line is pretty bad their only runs that were really successful were they had one like true successful designed run the other one I mentioned was the one that had the Florida State Game Analysis fumble and then there were two Pon scrambles other than that Toledo shut them down so BC should be able to do the same on defense I think you're going to see a lot more of a vanilla game plan from Tim Lewis you're not going to see all these crazy simulated blitzes and coverage rotations and blah blah blah I think you're just going to see him rush for and you know I think you could see Naraku have a have a plethora of sacks in this game because I really don't think that duan's line offensive line is any good at all and he ate Darius Washington for lunch against Florida State and Darius Washington is one of the best tackles in the allegedly according to the media who voted him first team all ACC offensive tackle which I'm still mad about yeah I I mean I'll never forgive him it just doesn't make any sense okay all right uh and any other last thoughts before we get into our predictions uh think about Dain um I I I think it I mean we'll get into predictions but I I think it is interesting that I was checking today and I was trying to find any Source I could there is not a line in this game that you can find so Vegas is if Vegas is that reticent to put a line on a game like this I think they also agree that it's going to be a blowout of pretty big proportions now for the fans too I want to ask you this it's it's super fan shirt return the super fans are returning what what year were you what did you have you had Super Fan shirs right I did yes um I honestly forget because I like I think I like lost mine um and it's also weird because like I was in band so I never got to really wear it um so I'm not sure where it is honestly um and I forget which what are said um I could definitely ask somebody but I I can't think it off the top of my head I think I can remember some of the ones that were around me like there was one like rising to new heights there one like uh actually ours might have been carry the torch light the way or that might have been the year ahead of us or behind us I can't remember exactly but yeah I mean I think that I'm trying to think when they went away because I think they went away before Co they started they stopped making new ones yeah right yep okay that's right okay so they don't have they don't have sayings on this one but I I want tell you guys I tell a quick story since I tell I told the story about my son meeting Thomas Tommy castalanos last week on the last episode I'll give you another quick AJ story story so I got married uh in 2009 at a conference center that was owned by Northeastern and story yes in northeastern in front in front of the the the hall was a giant husky so I brought my BC stuff I think I was just gonna wear it to the honeymoon and I decided at the wedding to take out the Super Fan shirt and put it on the Husky and then my brother who was best man took his shaving cream and poured it all over the Husky's mouth so it look like it was foaming at the mouth wearing a BC Super Fan shirt and then he was riding it probably my favorite not no offense to my wife but one of my favorite pictures from that wedding is him riding the foaming husky I after that we just kind of moved on with the night and left the shirt there and security ended up taking it so I don't have my original Super Fan shirt but I don't think there's a better way I could have lost it than that um so anyways I just had to share that story anyways we're g to get to predictions in just just a moment I want to get into what we're both predicting what bloated score we're going to look at I didn't look listen relist to our Holy Cross game but I don't remember what we picked for that but I'm pretty sure we picked blowouts for that too didn't we I think I think yes blowouts but I think we still picked it closer than we're gonna pick this thought of how much I expect BC to win by I I I'm always hesitant to to have them blow up be a blowout but Bill O'Brien's a different Beast I I think it's gonna be a big one and I think I think I'm going to go with something like BC winning 45 to seven I think it's going to be my pick oh that's pretty kind um so in my weekly so first of all it was carry the torch light the way I was correct um so in my preview piece for this week I looked back at the last five games that uh Duan has played against FBS opponents and when you combine all the scores of them it ends up being an average of 55 to or 54 to 10 so I'm gonna go with 63 to nothing and i' watching Duane last week they like their scores they got lucky I think they're actually and this is confusing they're not throwing the ball as deep downfield as they used to so I think they've kind of neutered themselves so they don't have that chance for explosive plays but even if they were I think that BC's defensive backs would be able to cover them you know none of their receivers are anything like super special like their leading receiver last week was a transfer from Rhode Island their other one was a transfer from UMass one the one who caught the big long pass was a transfer from Northern Colorado so these guys are just not going to contend with BC's FBS athletes and you know say which you like mid power mid to you know mid to lower tier power athletes that BC has um they're not even though FC receivers were not as good like they they were challenging BC defensive backs in a whole other way that these receivers would um so I think that BC is going to run away with this one obviously again no spread which is crazy I don't think that there's as big a talent Gap as there was between BC and Howard in 2015 even though that BC team was probably a good bit worse than uh that uh than the one this sorry that BC team was worse than the one this year and that Howard probably and that Howard team was probably worse than the one that duaine is so I again I'm with you though like I now I'm like more nervous about this game than the four than going to the four State game because I was I thought we were G to lose that one and now I'm like man if we if BC somehow blows this to Duane like that's just going to take all the momentum out of the sales this program which again I just can't imagine it happening um BC has too much talent I think they're still just gonna be too well coached to you know really lay an egg in this game yeah I'm kind of expecting that we'll have some sweet relief quick because I imagine they're going to run the ball like twice and then just blow off for a touchdown right away I I I I sense that'll happen quick and then they'll get to trying the passing game over on under point over under 0.5 snaps Thomas castalano plays in the second half zero I def under yeah I don't think he's play get jacobe Robinson out there um we don't have any updates on Grayson James and I'm not sure but this will be a great opportunity for Robinson to get out there and get some live snaps um and you get to see what he does so Mitch Let's uh let's wrap this up and get back to the Chiefs and Ravens uh this game doesn't count towards BC's bow eligibility which I'm pretty sure it does yep so let's just put that bad uh they didn't pass the ball enough yeah people still find the negatives but whatever
