[Music] we welcome you all to the second annual XR Southern Summit here at Southern Utah University this National Conference brings together those within higher education and Industry Fields who have a focus or interest in extended realities and emerging Technologies it is exciting to see you all here and it's wonderful to have you gathered on our campus I really feel like this conference is a group where can bring Community together I feel like we need to focus more on the collaborative aspect of VR not only is this going to provide them an active learning experience but it's also going to connect them with their fellow peers and it's going to give them the chance to learn from each other and be in the same space together and our VR AR classroom is the first of its kind where we have 23 medaquest 3 headsets with monitors and a multitude of educational applications for faculty and students to use this event is extremely important to push forward the integration of augmented reality and virtual reality which I feel will play a huge part in so many areas of so many Industries moving forward I teach mobile app development at Dixie Tech uh AR and BR are some of the topics that we cover and so it's an opportunity for us to come and learn more about it it's not obvious why you would use virtual reality to teach philosophy right but if you're working with for example the publication history of Yiddish Pulp Fiction in the 20th century like Professor zarat here is doing he can actually walk through a timeline of Publications represented by data points in virtual reality I'm in cyber security major so I got this opportunity to test with apple Vision Pro so that's why I came here they have like a computer setup where you can really pick apart the engine and look at the individual pieces I think we've always been storytelling species we would sit around the campfire we would tell stories back in the day would have just been talking then it turned into written word and now we have so many more forms to tell stories including video VR immersive technology we had a project where we were going to build a restaurant and we start going through this in VR they start looking around and they're like wow this piece of equipment isn't going to work here like for the flow of how our people work in the restaurant we're going to have to move this equipment here we're going to have to move this equip been here it's different when you get in the headset and you're there experiencing and you're immersed in that world
