welcome back to Global News update today we bring you some heartbreaking news from the World of Sports NHL starred Johnny gdo and his younger brother Matthew gdo tragically lost their lives in a devastating accident involving a suspected drunk driver let's dive into the details of this tragic incident segment one the incident Johnny gdo in his NHL year on the night of Thursday August 29th 2024 Johnny GD a beloved player for the Columbus Blue Jackets and his brother Matthew were riding their bikes in oldman's Township New Jersey it was supposed to be a joyous time as the brothers were set to be groomsmen at their sister Katie's wedding the following day somber image of a road at night however tragedy struck when a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 43-year-old Shan Higgins attempted to pass two slower vehicles on County Route 551 in the process the gdo brothers were struck and killed according to the New Jersey State Police Higgins is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol segment two the aftermath mugshot of Shan Higgins Shan Higgins has since been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and is being held without bond at the Salem County Correctional Facility the investigation is ongoing and the authorities are determined to bring Justice to the gdo family segment three remembering Johnny gdo tribute Montage of Johnny gd's career highlights Johnny gdo affectionately known as Johnny hockey was more than just an NHL star he was a loving husband father son brother and friend he leaves behind his wife Meredith and their two young children Noah and Johnny Jr who are now facing an unimaginable loss cut to social media posts from the Columbus Blue Jackets the Columbus Blue Jackets where Johnny most recently played expressed their deep sorrow in a statement calling the deaths an unimaginable tragedy they highlighted Johnny's love for the game and the joy he brought to everyone who watched him on the ice highlights of Johnny playing for Boston College Calgary Flames and Team USA from Boston College to the calvary flames and later to the Columbus Blue Jackets Johnny's impact on the sport of hockey was profound but it was his kindness and genuine spirit that left an indelible impression on all who knew him segment four closing remarks candle it vigil as the hocky community and the gdo family mourn this unimaginable loss we ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time Johnny and Matthew grro will be deeply missed but never for Goten fate to Black with text overlay in memory of Johnny and Matthew gdo thank you for watching Global News update please like share and subscribe for more updates
