we are in Nashville Tennessee the Music City for the opening week of the college football season for the Bojangles Virginia Tech game preview it's not just football season it's tailgate season when you've got crispy chicken and fluffy buttermilk biscuits from Bojangles your tailgate is better than great it's legendary open the Bojangles app and order your tailgate box today use promo code Hokies at checkout and receive six bberry cookies for free when you order a tailgate it is bow time and it is go time for the Virginia Tech Hokies who battle Vanderbilt Saturday afternoon here in Nashville Bill Roth with Mike burnup we welcome you to the 2024 college football season lot of excitement for the hokes Mike coming into this year it really is because you got so much production coming back Bill all 20 starters are back you got every starter on offense back you got your kickers back most of the defense is back which was the top 20 defense at the end of the year so yeah I mean I think people are exced EXC about it now you got to go out and prove it it is going to be very hot on this field Saturday afternoon it might be one of the hottest games Tech has ever played kind of different than the last time we were here 26 years ago when Virginia Tech faced Alabama in the inaugural Music City Bowl uh that was a little bit uh chilly it was free facial night now I honestly believe if I had an egg right now bill I could fry it on that platform we're standing on so a lot different temperature players have got to adjust to it the shoes have got to be good but you got to stay hydrated all right let's talk talk a little bit about this game tomorrow the hes as we know have a lot coming back great talent Kiron drones at quarterback uh take us through your keys to the game what will it take for Tech to get out of here tomorrow with a season opening Road win I think first and foremost you got to play clean and what I mean by that is like opening games you see some crazy stuff happen we've seen it through the years with Virginia Tech right guys are so amped up they commit a stupid personal foul the ball gets snapped over somebody's head you have a special team's error kick gets blocked or something like that so you got to play a clean game be good don't get penalized play a smart game I think that's number one all right what about number two because winning on the road is important and you got to control the line of scrimmage I think you know you got all the hype around all the skilled people on this team but what it boils down to builds what's up front that counts you got to control the line of scrimmage both sides you got all those veterans back on offense every starter back and the same thing on defense you got some new faces in there but I think they've upgraded in that department that will help out those guys on the defense on the back end so control the line of scrimmage and I think you got a great chance to win and finally it is a new look Vanderbilt team Diego Pavia the quarterback for the commodor transferring in from New Mexico state that leads us to key number three right yeah it does I mean Pavia is a heck of a player you know he's only six feet tall about 210 Bill did not have one FBS offer coming out of high school so he plays with a little bit of a chip on his shoulder but you know you're in the Music City you want him to sing but you don't want him to to dance right keep him in the pocket make him throw the football because he's got the great ability to extend plays with his feet and you don't want to see that happen sometimes that can cause you real problems so get the pressure up front put the pressure on it make him uncomfortable and that'll certainly improve your chances to win Virginia Tech and Vanderbilt right here at First Bank Stadium on campus at Vanderbilt University now here is our broadcast information for tomorrow's game our coverage begins at 10:00 a.m. eastern time Zach Mackey Mike burnup with the pregame show from here in Nashville the kickoff is coming up right after noon eastern time you can hear it on SiriusXM satellite radio and of course on the Hokey Sports mobile app we are delighted to begin year number 30 together calling Virginia Tech football and we hope you'll join us tomorrow on the Virginia Tech Sports Network the Hokies and Vanderbilt kick things off here in Nashville we'll talk with you Saturday starting at 10: a.m.
