brought this to shade like I did not know this happen this is the biggest heists in the history of Georgia even today so literally this was back in the 70s when Muhammad Ali he was he was like could not get hired to box because he refused to fight Vietnam War and so people call him a draft Dodger people said he hated his country and called him Memorial and so you know now he's looked at as a as a hero but it's one of those moments where in history sometimes being on the right side of History doesn't look like that so he was banned he came down to Atlanta to fight an unsanctioned boxing match and it attracted celebrities and athletes and and gangsters honestly from all over the country and true story somebody threw an underground Casino night one of the promoters said hey all these folks in town and then folks came through with mask and robbed everybody and they happened to be robbing some of the biggest gangsters in the country and didn't know it and that's just the jumping off point beginning you didn't miss nothing that's just a beginning that's just the start and then after that it's just like what's going to happen man who's going to make it out of it and it all at the center of it all is chicken man Kevin Hart playing a local Hustler who's trying to level up his name is chicken his name is chicken man the most Atlanta name ever you could ever think Chi when I first heard this story I listened to that podcast I was like chicken man I was like am I related to this dude this is the most Southwest Atlanta thing I ever heard of my but yeah he Kevin 's playing a real man Gordon uh Chicken Man Williams man and he's a hustler that's trying to make it trying to level up nice so Shay you are originally from Atlanta yeah okay Georgia you Southwest College Park that's why peacock September fifth we want everybody to watch all of them they jump in the how many total episodes Shay eight eight so how many we getting on the fifth I believe three the first three which are very much like they're like a movie like the first three like you you watch the first three you're like where you going to go with this and it's like no man we just getting going why wasn't this a movie yeah well I think it was a lot of I think initially and and will can speak to this initially it was a movie for a while it was definitely trying to be made as a movie it went through some different iterations and It ultimately didn't work out but I always say this I think sometimes like this a story a production is just trying to find the right format is trying to write find the right storytellers is trying to find the right Village to get that and I think Fight Night is the ultimate example of that I think the limited series format was the perect perfect format for fight night because it gave us an opportunity not just to like explore the events of H that happened that evening that kind of set everything off but to explore all the players that were involved and I think it gives you like we have like the the real estate and the terrain of really like your sport all these different characters that were involved in this particular U this particular event and every and the aftermath of it well say absolutely I mean cuz I look at the name yeah this don't sound like no series I know it's a big movie star name right the biggest stars in the world I like to say we assemble to Black Avengers come on let's go chocolate Avengers two of them I mean I do right technically it's three follow wait a minute come on if you talk about Marvel who I got from the Marvel Universe at it got got he got three he got three of before before before okay okay okay War Machine okay nice we got some inter connection no but we we went I mean obviously you put a cast like that together you got to call everybody personally and so we reached out and I brought you know Kev was the first call so I got Kev on board and Kev and I we started calling uh each cast member individually to say yo would you get down with this and they read shade script and they were like yo this sounds dope let's go to Atlant and Sho we shot it right here in the a so you call people huh what happened oh here we go you know it always get awkward with ticker after a while because every time I co here to promote a project and he ain't been in one get promised well well hold on oh see will you not I believe no no no I believe what I said was I believe I gave a promise to strongly considered then have an evaluation and then I mean is that not correct T I think you have an amazing career ahead and behind you Terence Howard in that wig yeah wig now on we can now let you know that's why he was in the wig he was on set shooting right he was shooting okay so my question I mean so Jazzy do you think TIG has a 70s face that's what I was going ask show you one of my the costume if we put some hair on him cuz he you want to see me with some hair oh if I had a FR you got a great 2020 face that's what I see when I see you I see very contemporary you know I see see you got the vision we all got the vision yeah of him in like you know late 90s you know what I'm saying like SE give me a flat first of all not not flat tops now you got this before flat top late 90s which been giv you that the 70s I could have did the about to show you a picture just just to show you my versatility we brought back I mean obviously the Atlanta we see today obviously it's this beautiful vibrant City that's a a cultural Mecca like economic Mecca entertainment Mecca what we're saying is and I had never seen a show or anything movie that really like explain the kind of DNA or the origin story of all this popped off and when I heard about this and I listen to that podcast I was like finally this is the moment this is the origin story that kind of popped off all this black meca stuff and so this is what this what's so special about this you finally get to see from local atlantans but also people who are not from Atlanta who have heard about Atlanta or got something to say about Atlanta you finally get to get to see the story of how it all started told from for us by us you know what I mean so yeah 100% love it m so I'm from Atlanta of course I wasn't born in the 70s but why haven't we heard this story before I don't I mean a lot of these stories and we speak to this too I feel like a lot of these local kind of like africanamerican stories are told orally you know what I mean like you don't they're not in history books they're not like in magazines your Grandmama like the funny I didn't know about this when I first heard about the first thing I did was called my auntie my uncles and all in it they all knew somebody so they they they heard of the story they all knew somebody I found out I got connections to my mom my godmother Sam Sam Jackson who was involved in a project he he was he was here in college yeah he remember there living in Atlanta absolutely the place where the actual heists happened his wife is from that area we were in the neighborhood shooting Sam was like first of all y'all got it right right because we had to go and transform every place into 70s Atlanta in an authentic way and Sam said y'all got it right this is what it looked like he said I know because I was there my wife was there so yeah it's it's um it's interesting Shay talked about like the origin story a lot of people we think of Atlanta especially recent Atlanta right we think of the music and civil rights and all that is extremely important Atlanta had ups and downs and so this was an inflection point for the city and so it's a super entertaining way to look at how at you got these dreamers and Hustlers right Kevin Hart plays a dreamer even SE Kevin even Sam Jackson in a way even though he's big gangster he's a dream he has a dream of what Atlanta can become it's interesting when you see kind of like origin stories that show you how a city came to be this is a big inflection point that show that Atlanta could operate on the level of a New York or Chicago and LA or Miami cuz it wasn't considered that way right you know T still looking for this 70s picture his and he whoa hey hey I mean let's give it more like 84 let me tell y'all something cuz that's man closely Shor T got a strong jaw he got a I didn't know I didn't y'all hav't seen this picture that I'm seeing a TIG I don't know if y'all on the B103 but uh T got an old face I just realiz start super with I never look at you the same brother you got a old face you look like a strong 60s so put him in the game I mean 60 years old that's how you giving me right that's giv principle that's a princip I see you with the makeup on what was that for was for a period piece about ARA Franklin really yeah 60s that was 60 okay see called me I see I see you you look good third Good Marshall in high school kind of way but it's still you still look good baby fight million Heist out on peacock September 5th next a lot in there LI or or off camera yeah I know what you're going for but you know what it was it was honestly behind the scenes it was love you had actors a lot of them who had worked together before right of course you got Taj right um you got you know Sam had worked with Don Kevin and Don had been looking to work together on something of this scale they hadn't been able to do it um Kev had not worked with Sam in a real way before he and Sam and I had talked about working together it was kind of an opportunity for some folks who were big in this industry who had not worked together so a lot of people will say yo how come so and so never works with so and so right I want to see Delle Will Smith and Sam Jackson in the movie you know they just pick these stars and so a lot of times it just doesn't line up that way you don't have folks like me behind the scene and shave that are being very intentional about let's put our folks together in the right roles that's what happened here man it was love it was really love behind the scenes okay but did you automatically like when you wrote the charact when they wrote the characters did you automatically in your mind picture who you thought would play the actual part we talked about Sam very early didn't we I think the only one was like Sam was always a dream but I didn't think it would I mean you just like yeah we'll see was in when we brought yeah Kevin was pretty much yeah he was already in so no but like Sam was probably the only one but it was just like kind of writing into that and you'll see what happens and then all of a sudden you got Sam Jackson nice okay listen I'm looking forward to Fight Night million doll Heist out on peacock they dropping three episodes September 5th next Thursday then you get the rest of them
