Jaguars' offense could be 'frustrating' for managers | Fantasy Football Happy Hour | NFL on NBC

last season Trevor Lawrence had the sixth most deep passes this off season the Jack Jacksonville Jaguars drafted Brian Thomas Jr who led the FBS with 17 receiving touchdowns in 2023 nine of which came on plays of 30 or more yards the Jaguars also added free agent wide receiver Gabe Davis since he entered the NFL Gabe Davis leads all players in average depth of Target and is second in yards per reception Denny Carter what say you about my deep passing stats around Trevor Lawrence look you know I I think it's going to be kind of frustrating uh for Fantasy purposes to draft Gabe Davis and or draft Brian Thomas and expect uh consistent production out of them they are going to have their blowup weeks good luck guessing when that will come uh you know this this Jags offense is predicated on Lawrence letting it rip down the silent usually down the boundary which is very very low percentage sort of throws that's how that's why Ridley struggled honestly last year uh and so they're going to keep doing that I guess but if you ever saw receivers who could actually come down with those and and get production from those it is it is Davis and Thomas so I I guess it could work but I'm just I'm skeptical of the overall offensive team building uh for for Jacksonville and I I think that all three of these Kirk uh Brian Thomas and Gabe Davis I think all three of these guys are just going to frustrate the heck out of fantasy managers this year yeah I think the the point of this and you tell me if you agree with Denny if you agree with me but 100 facts is basically and I say this in the intro 100 facts is literally me just listing a lot of facts and it's just a clever way it's a clever presentation at least I think it's clever it's a clever presentation of me just trying to lead you in a direction of what I think right and so I am Pro Trevor Lawrence this year he made the love list as well and so my argument there is saying like this is a guy that threw deep a ton last year with a bunch of success obviously Calvin Ridley that was a struggle but they went out and added a deep threat and G and Gabe Davis they also drafted a deep threat and Brian Thomas they have Christian Kirk and Evan Ingram there um in the uh you know returning as well so my question to you uh Jay Croucher you know Trevor Lawrence who last year was fourth in pass attempts per game the Jags overall ranked top 10 in the NFL in passing rate are you buying a bounceback from Trevor Lawrence fantasy wise this year so I think the pro argument for Lawrence was what you outlined and also the fact that one he was just injured all of last season constantly dealing with injuries to uh where was concussion his knees shoulder he's just banged up all the time just on average he should be healthier uh there's also the fact that you still have to regress a bit to the idea that he was drafted as a generational quarterback and he's shown enough flashes that we can't just throw that out the door he does in theory still have you know top five quarterback upside on the downside is that it just doesn't seem like a very tightly run ship in Jacksonville there's concerns about the offensive play calling why did they just completely melt down the stretch like why are you losing to the Titans in the final week of the season in Ryan tanah Hill's farewell game when you have the division on the line so I think that there are those concerns with Brian Thomas he is the guy who's most compelling to me just because of the talent and the upside and I think there are worlds where he could be Trevor Lawrence's number one wide receiver and he is closer to the Marvin Harrison Malik neighbors of the worlds than the lad mcon Jaylen PES of the worlds which I think is probably viewed halfway in between there which is fair and he does have a ton of upside and he's lit up camp um but I just don't really want to buy into this Jag situation Denny you know I will say go ahead matth no you go get getting to Matthew's point you know if you want to ignore the Jags receivers that's fine the way to play it would would be to draft Lawrence and redraft and just and just let it fly hopefully he makes that connection with these big guys on the outside rather than the small guys he was throwing to last year for some reason on those same rout so I I think I do think you're on to something there if he is Contin if he continues to be very aggressive on downfield throws he's going to have a lot of Spike weeks it's going to be pretty good for Fantasy uh yeah and he also has a few yards with his legs he's
