Are the Tyler Lockett contract details accurate on Spotrac or Over The Cap?

what's going on everybody good afternoon and I am making this video right now because I think I need your help yes I need your help you watching this video on the other side of the internet I uh I've come ac across conflicting information that is pretty significant and I want to figure out who's in the right and who's in the wrong here so let's talk it through I'll explain why I was doing this I'll have a little bit of a I I'll go into a little bit of a tangent first and then we'll get into what has confused me so this video is about Tyler Lockett and what happened was most of you guys know that lockett's missed a lot of practice over the last few days and a couple people have theorized that what if Lockett is being held out of practice because we're planning to trade him in the coming days what if Tyler Lockett is trade bait for a team like the Steelers who wanted Brandon iuk very badly but don't look like they're going to get him would they then set their sights on a player like Tyler Lockett would they maybe come at us with like a third round pick for Tyler Lockett and I want to be clear here I think the answer to that is no I don't think Lockett is trade bait and I don't think the Steelers would give us anything real for him like I don't think they'd give us a third round pick I don't even know if they'd give us a fourth round pick they probably would but I'm not so sure like Tyler Lockett is a player who's about to turn 32 everybody kind of understands that he's near the end this is not a guy who's going to play until he's 36 a lot of people assume this is lockett's final year in the NFL period so you're the Steelers you're a team that generally stays in the pocket and stays kind of conservative you have the opportunity to trade for a player who is already past his prime who is probably going to retire at the end of the year I I don't think you do that unless you're giving up like a fifth round pick maybe a fourth like players like this typically don't really go for that much the Aging receiver that has kind of gotten to the point where they're they're not dime a dozen but they're not that hard to replicate for cheaper and younger like we we uh we typically don't see those guys go for a big package I remember like almost 20 years ago Eric molds got traded from the Buffalo Bills to the Houston Texans for nothing like a fifth round pick and at the time didn't understand it I asked my friend who was a little older than me like why is a good receiver like Eric molds being given away for a fifth round pick and he kind of explained like he's an older player that's uh how it goes you you might be a productive wide receiver but when you hit that age as a receiver you're just not going to demand the big uh big um recuperation of picks so I don't think we would trade locket mainly for that reason I don't think Pittsburgh would give us anything real I mean is a fourth or fifth round pick worth that but I also wanted to look at it financially if we traded Tyler Lockett what would uh the finances look like so you go over to over the cap here and if you set it to a Trade Post June 1st because it is post June 1st there's about 14 million dead the Seahawks would eat and 5 million in cap savings so most of the money is still dead we we don't really save very much money here we not that we really need need to save money that badly because our salary cap situation settled but you wouldn't be doing it to save money and you're not doing it to get a draft pick like it's got to be one or the other right maybe you could work out a situation where Pittsburgh takes on most of his salary maybe you could work out some kind of an arrangement where instead of you taking on 14 million dead it's like 4 million dead but would Pittsburgh do that again this is not Jerry Rice here this is Tyler Lockett I I don't think Pittsburgh does that so so I looked at this and I was like I can't make it make sense I think lockett's going to stay here for 2024 and that's just the way it is but while looking at these numbers I couldn't help but notice something here so this is over the cap which I've taken to use this offseason a lot and this is spot Trak which I don't use very much anymore because I don't like their new layout not saying anything bad about their information though which is why I'm making this video because these two websites tell us very different stories so this is B track if you go down here to the table and you scroll all the way to the right and take a look at the dead cap category if the player is let go you can see that on spot Trak it says 12.66% what affects me is this next uh line the dead cap hit according to spot Trak in 2025 is $4 million which in NFL terms is pretty insignificant but that's not what over the cap says over the cap says on well it doesn't really matter if it's post June 1st or pre-june 1st because it's the last year of the deal they say the dead cap hit is just shy of 13.9 million so basically 10 million more uh several times more however you want to put it that's a big difference so they still have a saving a majority of the cap had 17 million in savings but there's a big difference between 17 million in savings and 20 27 million in savings here so yeah the reason why I'm making this video is really I want to ask who has the right number what is the right calculation here uh Brady Henderson if you're watching my video help me out here man so looking at the tables looking at these two tables here I'm looking at like the base salary 4.66 and then 10 million next year for lockit that's what OTC has so they're synced up on base salary it's this pro-rated signing bonus where we have 7.8 7.8 and then on OTC they have 13.9 13.9 so that seems to be where the discrepancy lies um there um there there's a roster bonus of 5.3 million that OTC has matched up with spot Trak they also have the same roster uh per game bonus it looks like it looks like that matches up so I'm trying to figure out where this comes from I'm trying to figure out where the miscalculation is because something's not quite right here um spot TR has a few more categories by the way if you're wondering why some the numbers show up on one side and the other doesn't I don't think that's the issue but we could really use a uh little bit of a education about which number is correct here because 4 million dead is very insignificant that's kind of a no-brainer like if we get to next year and the locket cap hit is 31 million but the dead cap hit is 4 million you don't even really have to think about it it hurts cuz locket is a great seok and I think that we all imagined that he would retire here but if he doesn't want to retire next year you have a very easy decision now I think that the 14 million Deb is still kind of easy because you know you need to turn the page a little bit here you've got players like met CF and jsn and even Jake Bobo maybe someone else will emerge as a decent depth guy as well you could draft somebody you've got to turn the page at some point and Lockett has kind of gotten to the point now where the things that he doesn't do are frustrating and the things that he doesn't do are kind of damaging like like the complete unwillingness to do anything in terms of yak the complete unwillingness to do anything in terms of taking a hit I get it I understand it I support it like don't get me wrong I think it's the right thing for him to do but you're not seeing other receivers in the NFL play like that and at a certain point it's a disadvantage so I can't be paying 31 million for that either way but there's a big difference here and and I love Tyler Lockett everything I just said I know it all sounds a little bit harsh but most receivers do not play the way that Tyler Lockett does and look it's allowed him to stay in the league for a while here but it it does take yards off the board and it does sometimes take points off the board it just does compared to these other guys that don't do that so if you happen to know which numbers right here let let me know I'm going to see you guys later thank
