get that fixed they are a championship level group um and I hope we see him there the Jets feel optimistic level optimistic yeah about what but they had one drive all game where they looked like a professional outfit and I tweeted not sarcastically but kind of sadly I think that drive was the happiest sequence of events for Jet fans in a decade I I honest to God I that might be I seriously I I think it was uh optimistic because here is the through line of folks who really want to believe in the Jets what you're hearing this morning man Aaron did show he can still throw such a pretty ball America on the Miss I no just just in general that he still zip on his ball yeah yeah listen I remember being a kid watching the NFL today and one day and Dan they would occasionally like go outside and throw the ball around Dan Marino was in his 50s and the ball came out of his hand beautifully I believe that he looked like he could Aaron Rogers will be able to throw a pretty ball forever nobody thought well he's just not going to know how to throw anymore the question was the other parts about playing football and how did that go for the Jets offensively the season started with a drop and an eye roll and then a fumble and an eye roll before the one good sustained Drive uh shockingly and we can show it to you the San Francisco defense figured out what Nat Hackett Aaron Rogers wanted to do uh left um I they cracked the code boys that he's throwing there and it styed some things defensively this big bad Jets defense allowed points on eight consecutive drives you know how many times that happened in the entirety of the 2023 NFL season by any team zero correct the last it actually the Saints did it this weekend against the Panthers prior to that that counts the last time it happened was bake show with the Rams against Nat hacket uh Broncos but he's not running the defense but just what it is so I mean you have no pass rush seem like you miss son reic big winner of the night and Jordan Mason torched you yes and so no they shouldn't feel optimistic and every time we talk about the Jets after each game I'm going to ask Brew this question is it it yet fair for me to question Bobby salah's coaching credentials or is it still too early it's early it's still too early okay all right we'll find out when Jets fans come here my goodness don't listen to these two about your te anything uh yeah that's frustrating when Happ they hate your team we don't hate they will never say a positive word about your team I like Chad Pennington I on the other hand m don't really care about your team one way or the other which means I'm unbiased and I will tell you the truth and here it is you shouldn't be pessimistic how about that you shouldn't be all over the place with optimism but you shouldn't be pessimistic after one game all right you should be optimistic that you have a chance to make the playoffs for the first time in 14 years what about win the division like they were favored to do still have chance yeah I still it's week one last last year the Buffalo Bills got beat by the Jets without Aaron Rodgers in week one and how' that work oh they won the division it's week one you played the best team in the NFC last year is it right the defending champs in their building they have a ton of stuff to prove and you lost now expect them to win game but we didn't expect them to be down 3213 we didn't expect them to allow points on eight straight drives Aaron Rogers was playing his first game in a year and a half and he did not look special I I would he didn't look special he looked more like the Aaron Rogers from the last year in Green Bay there's no doubt about that and the game if I may just to show before you finish and Wilds goes it this game from Aaron roders statistically looked a hell of a lot like the last time we saw iron Rogers right I yes I team scores in the teens you struggle to get to 200 yards one touchdown one pick and at some point there is the possibility oh against good teams that's who Aaron roggers is against I against all teams that's who Aaron Rogers real here's what I'm just objectively I'm wondering does Aaron roders at this stage of his career and even the last several years need a Matt leflour because he didn't you know remember aens never wanted a lot of pre- snap motion even when he was Elite at the height of his career and then lfl and he started struggling at the end of McCarthy's tenur without that stuff lfl comes in they upgrade the offense if you will more pre-nap motion and things like that and they're scheming Guys open and he has two MVP years now I wonder at this stage of his career cuz yesterday it looked basic right it and Rogers and that hack it or running it and so that's a question that I do have but to to you know one game against one of the top two three four teams in the league how long did he have to prep for this game wild you can't prep when you've been out for a year and a half you still are going to have some growing paints especially against the top team in his offensive coordinator that he brought over they should be like let's run our favorite stuff how many quarterbacks looked so so this weend just about everyone and all of them out were B Hood like the savior of the New York Jets here's how I compared it to brew went to Bali remember one of those vacations I think it was the second vacation if you came back and I was like how was the vacation and you said you know what fine it I didn't it didn't it didn't ruin the vacation it was a decent week no you said it was bucket list and that's what I wanted that's what I needed to see you were going against the ners when people are Sayers people are saying the Jets are going to the Super Bowl those people because they believe in Aaron Rogers who had 167 yards slightly less than Deshawn Watson between Deshawn Watson Jo BR he had 13 completions to three guys his passer rating was 23rd he's just an average Quarterback and I have to turn on these shows and hear that he's this this this is what really gets to me if you want peel back the emotional layers that he's following the same track as Tom Brady and he is not Brady his debut lost to a Saints team he had 239 yards he had two uh passing touchdowns he ran a touchdown he had two interceptions go like oh that's the rusty part but Brady looked like the old Brady and Aaron Rogers does not look like the I age he no he he did not look like that and I think so I just think there are so I want to be very clear here I do not think Aaron roggers was the problem last night he wasn't part of the solution I think the if I am I think the biggest problem was the defense which is a bigger problem in and of itself it's supposed to be great supposed to be great well but so no no no but the defense is supposed to be great instantly early in the year the defense supposed to be ahead of the offense one of the reason to bruise point so many offenses quarterback struggled defenses are ahead so I so there is that should have worked in their favor instead they got run on they generated no pass rush they had no answers for an entertainment I know we'll get to it that was without one of if not their biggest weapon so you have that piece of it the second one is that Target chart is abysmal every single pass it was going to either Bree hall or Garrett Wilson with the occasional one Allen Lazard and then I guess he had won to Concklin I don't even know who they didn't even play Williams no Mike Williams started and then left and then came back in at the end there it was there was no creativity and part of that was Aaron was one of three quarterbacks in week one to get rid of the ball on average in less than two and a half seconds it's almost like he's an older quarterback who's not mobile anymore and was afraid to get hit now maybe that gets better but the fastest to get rid of the ball this weekend was J Daniels who was very clear my first read open no I'm running Baker who just seemed to be cooking immediately like and and Aaron was number three on that list 2.47 thir he always been quick release he's always been quick release but with high production oh yeah now and so the this is and this is where I get a little frustrated Brew not with you but we can't this is kind of a first cousin of the what I thought was excuse making for the Dolphins when it was like well it's hard to beat the Ravens and the Chiefs like yeah but you have to if you in the bills if you going to the Jets are supposed to be contenders the Jets are the favorites to win a division that has Tua and Josh Allen in it the now does that mean you need to go to San Francisco and win of course not San Francisco might go undefeated at home this year but should you go to San Francisco and look competent should you go to San Francisco and have more than one drive with your starters that's good other than the Aaron Rogers free play touchdown Which is still excellent that that that part is demoralizing but no it shouldn't be because Buffalo did not look great this weekend they struggled with an Arizona team most people don't have making the play I know people think they're frisky and real talk people think they're frisky but they came into your building and almost beat you all right Miami got a win which was a a good win but they didn't look great so I'm just my thing is just I agree Jets fans first of all anybody thinking they were going to win the Super Bowl you were already a little too high but even I just think they shouldn't be pessimistic and like down like oh my gosh we're going to be terrible you were playing the San Francisco 49ers I I guess my point is I can't think of another Contender or Contender adjacent team that was very bad on both sides of the ball the bills defense wasn't good this week their offense was the the Eagles if you think they're a contender their defense wasn't good their offense was I'm trying to go you know up and down the list Atlanta's offense was awful their defense was actually pretty good held them to just field goals maybe that's the closest to it go go up and down the list what other team that we have real expectations for you're supposed to I thought Miami's offense wasn't great the defense was I'm down on them but the Bengals that's why the the the Bengals defense was fine the Bengals they allowed 16 points was against New England okay so the Bengals are the one the Bengals are the one and we asked is it Panic time yeah that's right we asked is it Panic time and so I mean no my my answer to this is no the jet should not feel optimistic and I don't think you think no I'm just saying I don't think the sky is fall yeah that's all I'm saying I would be like bad news numbers are not a reflection of how well or poorly he played I will tell you this is an instance where I think he was better than those numbers suggest I thought that this was to me more impressive than some of his 120 passer rating three touchdown games because I did it was it was a whole weekend of bad quarterback play essentially with the rare exception as you guys mentioned it started off looking like he was going to follow in that Trend I think I sent you guys on our off the Record Tex chain uh you know a meme or a gift about that and then after those opening few drives I thought there was one drive the entire game where he wasn't very good and it was the one where Aman got on him a bit like oh that could have been picked and that was right and it was like bang bang bang but everything before that and everything after that was excellent I thought it and I didn't think it was super easy layup stuff guys some of the guys were open but they were still good reads I thought the pass the play to use check was a good read by pie I listen I thought he played well and I was watching that game and I because I don't think the Jets defense is bad I don't think they are the best defense in football the way some people expected so I thought this was an impressive performance by Brock per despite the numbers looking mediocre well and and auk was completely Rusty he dropped two passes one of them a perfectly thrown ball in the end zone that would have made the stats look better obviously I want to throw this out out at you Nick just and and mcaffrey until further notice is the best running back in the league now we'll see does saquan pass him this year does Henry you know Henry's just a totally different type of running back I want to throw this at you though and I'm not saying this to diminish mcaffrey because you've said rightly that pie has the shadow of Jimmy G even though Jimmy G is not better than him they won with Jimmy G mcaffrey kind of has the shadow of their running success pre before him they they got to the Super Bowl with Raheem moard and Matt breida they've they have always had I mean once garoo got there and they became a pretty good team they've always had a good run game under Kyle Shanahan regardless of who it was Elijah Mitchell Jeff Wilson go back to his dad you know what I mean I'm just I mean mcaffrey obviously showed what he could do in Carolina we know he's a really he's a great back but I don't know that their run game would have been any better yesterday with mff he's a better receiver than these other guys so so listen I the M for mcaffrey it is it is also that he did seem to Super charge that offense the moment he got their midseason a couple years ago Jimmy G played the best football of his life that they've been you know the most success they ever had been since he's been there but we also know Christian mcaffry was a multiple time all proo before he ever set foot in San Francisco but you are treading close to what I think this is why I don't think we disagree on pry as much as others if someone came out today and said Jordan Mason top five back in football well no well right and it'd be like well what do you want him to do what do you wild what do you want but this is this is the difference nobody would realistically say that today but if Jordan Mason did this for a year and a half then you might start saying it right but so the but that's kind of but if Jordan Mason did it for a year and a half I still think some people would be like well he's good and maybe better than he should have been as an undrafted player but we have seen Raheem moer we have seen Matt breida we have seen the guys that Kyle's dad Mike did with it we would always do that and especially if he then left the Niners went somewhere else and was baday and the next guy stepped in and was great I think we always all do that type of stuff because if someone right now came out and said man I think Jordan Mason at the whole league missed on him I think he is a top 10 back in this league and I think next week but let's say next week cuz he's probably going to play mhm he has 20 carries for 105 yards I think Wilds or people similar could be like well what more do you want the guy to do like what you like and so that to me is do you understand what I'm saying yeah I do I'm I'm just look all motivated to get that huge contract become the highest paid non QB in the league and they are sbob complete can I ask question without question aren't they less than if Dak hadn't signed his deal that doesn't this by definition mean that they have more like doesn't signing the deal make it like let me just create a fanciful Universe now that this deal has been signed and I'm going to give I think a semi-realistic playoff field Detroit's the one seed San Francisco's the two seed Dallas is the three seed sure okay we all on the same page in round one Dallas hosts Philadelphia and wins Dax again it's just just round two Dallas goes to San Francisco the sight of so many of their playoff failures Dak plays great wow and they win round three they're playing the fighting Dan Campbell in Detroit and in a game very similar to last year's conference or last Year's game before the playoffs it comes down to the very end except this year Skipper correctly says I'm eligible and the Cowboys lose they're blowing it up they're firing people or they are or Jerry Jones is saying best year in 30 years this is why we signed Dak Mike McCarthy come back and we are ready to roll that's exactly what having signed this deal or if he went into the year on an expiring deal the way I predicted like what do you think would is more likely to lead to success for the Cowboys in deak oh him not being signed oh wow really yeah that's pressure even though you know you it's motivating it's Mo It's like because you have something to prove and so now you're not only trying to prove it to the team that you want to be with but you're like in case in case y'all don't know these other 31 teams might get me okay so just quick review quarterbacks not being signed play better receivers not being signed Dak knows like he's would gotten paid no matter what quickly this is what I think Jerry's doing number one I think him putting the pressure on him is why I always talk about their culture not being coach Tomlin as I sit here today uh we're preparing as if Justin is going to be our quarterback I think that's the appropriate way to do it speculation is a waste of time uh Russell's hurt he's not one of these guys to make it an easy decision for us to say no he's our starter no matter what happens and it would be different have Russ been named a starter and it was a a distinct difference usually with Lamar Lamar Jackson ran the ball 16 times uh on Thursday night miss practice on Monday because he was according to Mike Galo a little bit sore brw caus for concern no what is cause for celebration what oh look they should not have needed this and hopefully they didn't but it's a great wakeup call oh okay I mean all right I buy this if if Lamar didn't think I was out there tripping in game one like what you know and hard Baugh didn't say anything to him like Lamar we know you wanted this game you ran the ball exceptionally but you can't be running over guys like now you know and and likely together and just go a little more conservative offense and then let Lamar do his thing here and there like I I think that's what they need to do and this is a wake up call yeah I look I'm concerned because I don't know if you can stop a guy from actually doing what he did like we haven't seen Lamar run for 16 have 16 carry since 2021 like he's pressing clearly he was pressing in that game but to have your quarterback lose weight say you're going to be a little bit better more impactful in the running game so you can be a little more elusive more explosive faster all the things and then go seeking contact that was the part seeking contact like I don't mind you running I absolutely don't mind you running get down I understand but you don't think that's he clearly can stop seeking contact yeah but will he oh you think it was Chiefs related not 20 think a lot of it was Chiefs related I I I actually agree with Brew I because I we've never so the 16 carries is an interesting thing because it's the exact same number Jaden Daniels had and there's an article in the Washington Post today where they were basically killing the Commander's coaching staff of column because 16 for the record Vic never did it Josh Allen's never done it cam has only done it one time Josh Allen's never done it no Josh Allen never has run 16 times in a game Mike Vic never did it cam did it once Lamar this was the 15th time exactly but it was to your point all or early in his career and he I've never seen him play a game like this where Lamar when he would run a lot most of the time nobody would touch him like Glide out of bounds or you know to get skinny this time he was trying to prove a point and it did feel to me like it was Kansas City related the reason I concerning Wilds is when you play on a Thursday Monday is your Thursday and by that I mean if they had played Sunday your four days removed he's not able to practice that would have been their Thursday practice so he's sore sore work and now all of a sudden is on his revised contract and last leg if you will making it work down in Tampa Bay with the Buccaneers I think Baker would be giving more will be getting more credit than he's been given Baker Mayfield in my opinion and you going to say the mountain is not left or right it would be above Herbert for me with what he was able to do off of last season into the playoffs literally took the Detroit Lions to the brink could have won that game fell short not because of his performance rolled right into this season and jumped took W right where he left off Baker
