Inside Michigan Football vs. Texas: Wolverines Plan With Donovan Edwards And How To Beat Quinn Ewers

[Music] we are 24 hours from game time hell we're filming this at 11:20 Central 12:20 Eastern um by the time 24 hours from now this game will probably be a few minutes into the first quarter so make remember in our comments this week so show them whose boss horns down all day now took a bunch of questions from our Instagram account and really cherry-picked the ones that I thought gave me the best opportunity to express what I think is going to happen in this game and you know what how Michigan's been preparing for this Texas Team all week in practice we're taking all these questions from our strengths well on a show earlier this week I went through where I thought Texas had the advantage over Michigan so let's start there right number one offensive line continuity this is an offensive line that's got four starters that had been together in 2023 2022 and now 2024 109 returning starts among this offensive line as a unit together next up you've got a veteran Star Quarterback righten queen of yours playing in his third straight season as the tech T starting quarterback he's had you know a pretty good run of it didn't really light it up from a touchdown perspective last year right people say oh my gosh 21 touchdowns that's like what a Michigan quarterback would do typically but he did miss a couple games with injury missed like four or five games the year prior as well in 2022 so he has had a little bit of the injury bug did add five touchdowns on the ground last year so that veteran quarterback definitely in Advantage you know not NE going against Michigan secondary or anything like that but just if you compare the positions together okay cool Texas got a third string quarter third quarterback uh one of the biggest recruits of all time and he's projected to be a top 15 or so pick in this upcoming NFL draft ironically uh Arch Manning behind him he does have one year of Eligibility left so it' be kind of wild if we decide to come back for a fifth year um so what else is Texas half year they've got an experienced head coach right they've got uh Steve sarkeesian in his fourth year at Texas this his 10th season as a college football head coach was kind of mediocre actually at Washington right just like five six games over 500 and then he went to USC didn't even last his second season before he got fired for some off the field issues doing a little this you know he seems like he's gotten his life together after that uh Bev of pass catches right they're losing their top five pass catches from last year but they have six wide receivers that they think can be you know first team kind of guys so they think kind they brought over two high quality uh transfers one from Alabama one from Houston they've got probably one of two or three best incoming freshman wide receivers who I've talked about a lot this week and then they've got a couple guys who were freshman last year that are kind of making their way up the ranks last but not least their depth their overall proven Talent is a lot stronger than um you know than what Michigan has I guess just kind of overall the entire depth of the roster like something like 15 or so former five stars draft and the people from Texas I talk to cover this program or follow this program they don't know really what they have with The Replacements number two replacing 242 catches 20 touchdowns and like 3400 yards receiving from their top five pass catchers last year three Draft receivers one draft at tight end and a running back taken in the second round and last but not least the thing that really you know they were brutal last year uh in the secondary they brought out a couple guys in the transfer portal some of the guys who stunk last year have maybe moved on but Texas weaknesses right there Michigan games have you been to so I took the time yesterday I literally went through every schedule for the last like 30 plus years of when I remember I kind of went back to my first game and I might be missing the game and I even might be misremembering I went to that game and I I don't know we'll see but I think this is going to be my 63rd game at Michigan football game in person I believe I've been a 52 at Michigan Stadium I've been to 10 not at Michigan Stadium i' been to a few bowl games uh including national title game Alabama Rose Bowl Etc you know national championship for all you Texas fans wouldn't know anything about that um I've been at three Road games Notre name Road game Ohio State Road game Maryland Etc um and so this will be my 53rd game in the big house I believe 10 Road games at uh uh to watch this Michigan football team play so I ask you guys this question how many Michigan football games have you attended in person have you been to let me know down in the comments has any been been more to than 63 um you know my Heyday is going back through there I went to five games in 2019 uh four home one blll game and then in 2018 I went to an away game and four home games as well uh so five games those years but typically it's from like two to three games pretty much every year my life although uh last year 2023 I did not go to a Michigan football home game only went to the semi-final and the national championship game Tony Coleman longtime viewer of the show says do you think the O will fix issues by next week I think the uh you know we all saw Dominique GIS right the uh the Italian uh former former Mafia member of The Sopranos got the start at Setter and then got pulled in the second quarter came back in the third quarter right he was getting no push in the running game but graded out as Michigan's best pass blocker but worst run backer last week but I think this is going to be the same group H pre goodis giovan elh hadti and Evan link the red shirt freshman who got the start at right tackle now it's all on Chiron Moore in my in my opinion right it is on Chiron Moore as the guy who really turned around the offensive line struggles that Michigan had in the 2019 season even some of the 2018 season when they had all these guys drafted but still couldn't develop like a super strong running game um and Sh Moore really took that over in 2020 and has accelerated to Michigan's head coach all five starters you know being replaced from 2023 I don't think the average casual fan understands the continuity of an offensive line that takes to work together just like anything else like a receiver and a quarterback right being on the same page offensive line has to be there as well these guys are only playing their second game uh luckily they're not going up against last year's Texas defensive line and it's a little bit more less experienced less talented players especially on the interior but they've got to get it together right if Michigan can't impose the will especially in the second half going on the fourth quarter Lu they did against Ohio State against Washington even against Alabama in the fourth quarter and overtime um that's not going to B well for this team winning the game tomorrow zier command it says how will the da be utilized uh versus Texas well um we speculated on this and had sources Insight scoop what is Michigan working on to get Dian Edwards more involved in the game this is a player who had 175 you know re yard receiving game as a true freshman threw a 75 yard touchdown pass right 45 uh yards through the air as a true freshman threw a pass against Ohio State in 2023 threw a pass against Alabama in 2023 yet Michigan doesn't seem to be creative for long stretches of his career with putting him in a position to succeed so we we're here in early in practice practice on Tuesday into Wednesday is kle Mings Diamond Edwards getting those guys on the field more often so it's not so obvious what's going to happen they're not going to tip their plays as much and maybe they can even you know fake hand off to mullings turn boom we're hitting the diamond Edwards swinging out there or hand off to mullings up the middle Edwards is a decoy out there potentially even Mings is a lead blocker which he's done through parts of his career for Edwards um or Edwards probably goes out and serves as a slot receiver I expect that you get two running back sets I believe you'll probably get as many as 10 snaps if right you know what they've been working on practice typically what the prioriti in practice it doesn't take over the game plan but you te typically do see it at a much higher volume than you would have had it been deemphasized or not talked about in practice but the haters are out there in full force on d Edwards after his 27 yard performance but hey he scored a touchdown and uh you know did it with Alex orgy coming out of the backfield so uh he he got some play right remember last year we the whole Preston gets a toy gets a present every touchdown down Edward scores been score a touchdown to like the eighth Game of the Year ninth game of the year so uh we didn't make that deal this year thankfully because I think the da will get in the end zone a lot more um if he doesn't catch least five six passes on Saturday I'm going to be Gravely disappointed in the utilization of him from sh Moore and Kurt Campbell who gets more carriers versus taxes I want to know from you guys how you feeling I'm kind of leaning mullings at this point right so I might be typing my K down in the comments get down there in the comment section is it going to be the do or Hassan H Haskins 2.0 kle mullings give me a d or a K in the comments Anton in the Instagram comment man he saying do you think Michigan ran a vanilla offense just to win against Florida Fresno State uh and they want to show more versus Texas now I will say this when I was a younger man when I was more of a spry you know I'm getting out there in the world I'm learning things I would always assume oh well Lloyd Carr they're holding back the good plays for Notre Dame they're holding back the good plays for the Michigan State game oh they're going to finally open it up against Ohio State I just think that's BS at this point right maybe you know one or two players not going to put everything out there but I think that this you know team coached a uh you know this this this offense that we saw was exactly what was probably expected right a walk- on quarterback who hasn't started a game in five years and if you're going to play games right oh we're not going to show you the good stuff we're not even going to try with 10 new starters that's what we call coaching malpractice right the game was a six-point game in the fourth quarter and you might come back and say oh well hey Michigan marched right down the field and scored a touchdown easy passing pitch and catch the co and loveing so they finally open it up if so coaching malpractice right uh I don't think Fresno was as low of a talent team it wasn't like you know Arkansas State might be next week where Michigan should just by showing up win by four or five scores this was a really good team picked third in their confidence the best quarterback in the Mountain West so I don't think they were holding anything back uh to to surprise Texas with I think just replacing 10 starters and you know these guys have a lot of these guys haven't played football in years and years Joey uncore 150 what will Michigan have to do to beat Texas um they've got to have a lot of things that they've got to do right uh this just can't be um you know roll out there and try and out Talent or you know out even out scheme uh these people so there's three things I think are the key to the game number one you got to dismantle the interior offensive line now Texas got one of the best centers in all of college football only placing one guy on the sage line so it's going to be tough so it's going to be up to Kenneth Grant and Mason Graham who frankly I don't think had their best games against Fresno State last week but it's going to be a key get that push remember the stat I've been saying all week 2.5 seconds Michigan has got to get their hands on Queen ERS whether Sack or just hurry or you know push him down the ground 10 times in under 2.5 seconds this week if they are going to get the win next up is the inside running game right that's where Michigan might have the advantage even though replacing five offensive line stars is Texas has lost their best two Defenders to the NFL draft their two defensive tackles and then third you've got to come with the 2021 Ohio State 2022 Ohio State 2023 Washington game plan you give up things in between the 20s but when you get inside that Red Zone you blanket those wide receivers and that's when you've got to hit this quarterback number three is key right benva don't break this is a Texas offense that wants to hit home runs against Michigan and if they get out that 70 yard touchdown down the sideline or 70 yard pass whatever it is if they're scoring touchdowns outside 40 you know 40 yards 30 yards Michigan's in trouble for this game you've got to make him take up seven8 minutes of clock to get in the red zone and then play the defense that Michigan's been known for especially the last three seasons and uh good things will happen you make Quinn rush you make him release that ball just a just a smidge faster right instead of stepping to throw he's stepping back to throw whatever it is and then he starts being tentative then he starts throwing to that second guy in his progressions who's not as open when the third guy is open because he starts here in the footsteps comes up the middle that's when he get out of his rhythm have to step to the side boom Josiah Stewart come there boom drik Moore from the other side and that is the winning St strategy that Michigan has used against similar offenses over the past three seasons um the Stevens of line the secondary they are the key to winning right Jer Hill welcome to Michigan football your second start you are going to be tested all day because I don't think they're going to go after will Johnson uh a ton Zeke Barry nice interception your first start in your first Real playing time for Michigan need another one against Texas there's no R more Mari page is a nice game uh it's it's time to play Big Boy ball right this is uh this is not just the first game Michigan's going to have that's going to be challenging soon right in two weeks they've got a USC team that's going to pass the ball all over the place as well so I think we're going to learn about about what this defense is made of even though they're replacing only three St you know they're returning only three starters a ton of guys right nine of the 11 starters have significant playing time in the pass guys if you made it to the end of the video
