in Calgary sets the stage for a fitting finish to a fabulous Labor Day weekend in the CFL it's the Battle of Alberta with two huge points on the line Edmonton has won three of their last four to get themselves back in this race two game slide for Calgary and then be looking at one of their defensive leaders to step up today well the Edmonton elks have rushed the ball for almost 750 yards in the last four games Calgary's middle linebacker Micah awe is one of the best run Stoppers in the [Applause] league and he's well aware of the Elks running game so rock meet hard place speaking of rocks Edmonton's middle linebacker Niles Morgan leads the league and is on Pace for 120 defensive tackles it's Calgary it's Edmonton it's Labor Day buckle up it's going to be physical what a way to wrap up this week cannot wait to kick things off here Calgary as we mentioned dropped two in a row Edmonton 3 and one in the month of August to essentially save their season stamp Peters have owned this day winning 10 of the last 11 Edmonson finally getting one back in 2021 Calgary won the toss deferred Edmonton will start the game with the ball and we are underway at McMahon first return to the Ball Game shy of the 25 and the physicality starts early this is what Labor Day is it's another notch do you move it up it's like a playoff game Labor Day physicality you'll see it immediately opening a 100yd game in their last four games doesn't matter who's in there's an incomplete pass looking for Dylan Mitchell working against Roberson and it'll be a punting situation for MBT in the Edmonton Rose was talking about it this week I'm sure they've emphasized it big time all week long that and through the buy because Calgary had that extended by if we're going to beat Edmonton we've got to stop that run Darius Jackson three and three since taking over as the interm head coach for this club second and four will they stay on the ground they do it's brown straight ahead and he's got enough league coming into this week with 733 defensive tackles and in the secondary Cordell Jackson is very quietly and slowly becoming a leader in that group he leads his team in knockdowns and interceptions with three Nick Anderson playing alongside Morgan tied for second in the league in tackles with 64 himself Mayer down the field laid out there intercepted just inside the 30 bouncing back up is Bam and he'll be tracked down from behind now a flag after the interception has been thrown on the field we'll sort that out when we return dadri bham has his second interception of the Season as he takes it away from Jake [Music] Mayer and this is the one-on-one match up between the two and I'm not sure if Ismail Heyman saw this football or was trying to find it and couldn't find it really didn't react back to the ball and bham just sat underneath it I think that was the reaction from Jake Mary looked and said hey did you not see that one I threw it right down the sideline to you it was thrown was to the outside right out by that sideline I think that McLoud bethle Thompson was looking for more of a fade to get closer to the rail there than Mitchell ran just a communication and 10 so after the turnover it's a quick two and out and Calgary will avoid any damage yeah there was a receiver over in the area so it won't be another intentional grounding but Cloud bethl Thompson just looked there's Javon leak and he thought he was running a different route this kick is skyed bounces at the three and then through the end zone so a couple of singles has Edmonton on top two nothing 17 days off is there a worry about the stamp Peters but I'm concerned about our details you said the practice week was up and down he really believe that there was just too much time off this team's been off for really two and a half weeks so they do believe it'll get better as the game goes but that was a concern coming into this game rest definitely but certainly some Rush here in the first quarter how about as a player suits 17 days between games a little bit long yeah especially coming off a loss then you you have to live with that for that long period of time and you're looking at the big plays offensively big play in the passing game is anything over 30 yards Jake Mayer has 11 on the season but five were in their last two games so he was getting that connection in the chemistry and that long break may have been an issue start this one on the ground to Hill trying to find some space and eventually drilled back but did pick up a three or four yards on that initial push it be interesting to see just what kind of a tailback Hill is it looks like he's certainly got that second effort and he's he knows as most tailbacks do that you never want to go down with first Contact take two or three Edmonton Elks to get him there no surprise it was Morgan that started it Anderson finished it off with purfoy sort of mixed in second and six just one pass completion from May so far in the game looking for another here and he's got it and that'll be a first down taken up to Midfield as he goes back to is Hyman well the former quarter quarterback and head coach of the stamps is going to like that one because the timing was there it's a quick slant and the pass was there the accurac was was there and it looked like a well executed offensive play into that soft spot that both defenses have done a nice job scouting each other scouting the offenses and you look at the Run game for the Elks as we we talked about in the first quarter has been so strong throughout the last four or five games and right now Calgary knew that too they emphasized it all week and threw the by and just 29 yards rushing for the Elks in the first quarter pretty much an even split sort of between brown and leak so far leak's got four carries for 15 yards Brown's got three for 14 yards haven't seen ranking just yet he'll be involved on special teams a little bit I believe [Music] really like the play call because it it's attacking the perimeter and with all focus on Javon leak there's the play action to leak that holds basically the front seven and you try to get one of your advantage of a slow start for Calgary's offense cuz they do look out of syn and Edmonton hasn't been able to take real advantage of it just yet they got great field position now to maybe get started
