IT KICKED OFF BEFORE DAWN MONDAY MORNING WITH THERE'S HUBEI CELEBRATION. IT'S A CHANCE TO HONOR CARIBBEAN CULTURE THROUGH DANCE, COLORFUL COSTUMES, MUSIC AND, OF COURSE, FOOD. FOR MORE ON ALL OF THIS LET'S BRING IN CBS NEW YORK REPORTER HANNAH CLICKER. GREAT TO SEE YOU. WHAT'S HAPPENING THERE THIS HOUR? >> Reporter: GOOD TO SEE YOU. GOOD AFTERNOON. WE ARE HERE ALONG EASTERN PARKWAY IN BROOKLYN, ABOUT A TWO MILE LONG PARADE ROUTE. WE ARE FURTHER BY THE END OF THE ROUTE WE ARE REALLY JUST STARTING TO SEE THE FIRST COUPLE OF WAVES OF PARTICIPANTS MAKE THEIR WAY DOWN THE PARADE. A LOT OF NYPD CAME BY. WE SAW FDNY, CORRECTIONS OFFICERS, BUT WE ARE REALLY STARTING TO GET INTO THE SWING OF THINGS. IT HAS BEEN AN EXCITING DAY. I HAVE BEEN COVERING THIS PARADE FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW AND EVERY YEAR THE COSTUMES, THE FLOAT JUST GET MORE AND MORE ELABORATE. WE'VE GOT COSTUMES, PEOPLE WEARING THESE ELABORATE THINGS WITH FEATHERS AND RHINESTONES WE'VE GOT ENCHANTING MUSIC. REALLY MAKES AN EXCITING DAY. SO MUCH CARIBBEAN CULTURE. FOOD, MUSIC, SO MUCH TO TAKE IN. >> I'M WONDERING FOR FOLKS WHO HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO GO, TELL US ABOUT THE MEANING BEHIND THIS CELEBRATION. >> Reporter: THIS IS A BROOKLYN TRADITION FOR MORE THAN 50 YEARS BUT I BELIEVE THIS IS THE 57th YEAR. THE PARADE DATES BACK BEFORE THAT AND STARTED ORIGINALLY IN HARLEM AND EVENTUALLY MADE ITS WAY TO BROOKLYN. IT'S A WAY TO CELEBRATE CARIBBEAN CULTURE IN THE CITY. BROOKLYN, THIS PART OF BROOKLYN, IS KNOWN AS LITTLE CARIBBEAN. IT HAS A LOT OF CARIBBEAN PEOPLE. A LOT OF CARIBBEAN INFLUENCE. RESTAURANTS, GOOD FOOD. THIS IS JUST A WAY, IT'S ORGANIZED BY THE WEST INDIAN AMERICAN CARNIVAL DAY CELEBRATION THAT WORKS YEAR-ROUND TO PROMOTE CARIBBEAN CULTURE AND CARIBBEAN PEOPLE. THIS IS KIND OF THEIR SUPER BOWL, IF YOU WILL. THIS IS A BIG DAY. ALL WEEK TO HAVE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE PARADE, INCLUDING ACE DEAL PAN BAND COMPETITION. CALLED PANORAMA. THEY HAVE A CHILDREN'S CARNIVAL. KICKING OFF THE FESTIVITIES THIS MORNING. THIS IS KIND OF THE GRAND FINALE OF THAT WHOLE WEEK OF CARNIVAL CELEBRATIONS. >> I'M ALREADY CRAVING DOUBLES RIGHT NOW. MY MOUTH IS WATERING. THERE WOULD BE HUGE CROWDS THERE. I WANT TO ASK ABOUT THE SECURITY THAT MIGHT BE THERE TO MAKE SURE PEOPLE ARE SAFE WHILE THEY ARE HAVING FUN. >> Reporter: ABSOLUTELY. THE NYPD ADDRESSED THIS LAST WEEK, TALKING ABOUT THE SECURITY MEASURES THAT ARE GOING TO BE IN PLACE. AS YOU SAID, THIS ATTRACTS MORE THAN 1 MILLION PEOPLE A YEAR. NYPD SAID THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE THEIR TEAM SECURITY CHECKPOINTS, ALSO DRONES OVERHEAD AND A LARGE POLICE PRESENCE. WHICH WE HAVE BEEN SEEING WHILE WE HAVE IT OUT HERE. ANOTHER PART OF THIS DIMENSION IS THEY WILL BE COLLABORATING WITH SAFE LEADERS AND ANTI- VIOLENCE, VIOLENCE PREVENTION GROUPS THAT ARE GOING TO BE OUT HERE AT WORK IN THIS COMMUNITY THAT ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND THE PEOPLE. THAT ARE GOING TO BE WORKING TOGETHER TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE
