TWIN BABIES Harmed by Family Friend? Nicole Virzi Charged with Criminal Homicide | Pittsburgh

sounds pretty horrifying I'm going to show you everything I know about it thank you so much for being here welcome to all my moderators patrons members subscribers anyone who's new here any family and who be discussing today 29 years old okay it's a very strange case this I'm wondering why what it's very like okay here we go she's the daughter of a top NYC so New York City cardiologist Peter J verie she holds a graduate degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of California in San Diego and she's a fifth year PhD candidate pursuing her doctorate okay very educated right she is charged with murdering a 6 and 1/2 week old baby and assaulting his twin brother who survived what okay so the charges she faces are homicide aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children those are some pretty serious charges she was arrested on June 16th of 2024 and she's currently in the oh no trying to practice that word Alini alagi aleni oh man are they locals in ch in the Alini County Jail I think that's how you say it she's pleaded not guilty her father this top Cardiologist is of course saying that his daughter's innocent no one that knew her or knows her believes that she could do this which obviously in cases like this you know people wouldn't expect that anyone could do something like this just remember she is is innocent until proven guilty right so her preliminary picture of her and she said my research aims to explore the complex interplay between psychological factors such as depression stress negative effect and Trauma and critical Health outcomes and behaviors such as metabolic syndrome heart disease obesity eating behavior and exercise I am particularly interested in exploring these relationships within female and Trauma exposed populations interesting so it sounds like someone who cares about others right right okay everyone it's mugshot time so there is her mugshot on the right hand side all right so the magisterial uh district court public court summary shows us her charges there criminal homicide one count aggravated assault three counts and endangering the welfare of children two counts and this this case in the timeline is like H okay empart says this is such a strange case thanks for covering a g thank you so much artson yes it sure is now her bail has been denied of course her attorney said that he will be working on that I'm sure he will be um so bail denied no no bond No bail at this point um thank goodness by the sounds of it right so June 14th to 16th 20 24 is the weekend in question Nicole verie had traveled from San Diego to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania to visit her good friends Savannah Roberts and Ethan cats this is all public information uh so and I just saw some articles when saying the parents' names but it's all out there okay it's all over the place so all right now that already makes me question like okay so you're going to visit your friends sure sure but visiting friends to babysit oh my word I don't know what's going on there so just hear me out and I can't wait to hear your thoughts if you're watching the replay please leave your comments uh leave me some comments as well I can't wait to hear what you think about this case it's a little confusing C Savannah and Ethan describe Nicole as a very trusted friend I mean that's from the opposite side of the country you know what I mean from San Diego you're going to go for a weekend to Pittsburgh okay sure people visit their friends I'm just like where did they meet how did they know each other how long has it been going on how you know what I mean there's so many questions so uh Savannah and Ethan had just welcomed twin boys into the world in May of 2024 so the babies were only 6 and a half weeks old shame okay the couple would be celebrating their wedding anniversary that weekend and it would have been Leon's first Father's Day Leon Ethan why saying Leon not it would have been Ethan's first Father's Day there's a typo Leon is the baby's name okay it would have been Ethan's first Father's Day with his sons you see it just makes me qu I have questions okay I'm not blaming anybody of course we know she's arrested and what she's charged with and it sounds arous I'm just like it's such a strange weekend because it's like okay so a very good friend comes to visit did they organize the visit as in did um Savannah and Ethan invite her or did she just show up kind of like you know knowing it's the anniversary you know what I mean okay so the reason I say that is because what a weird weekend to have a friend visiting when it's so special it's your wedding anniversary and the very first Father's Day with your sons right so what what is Nicole doing there I don't know D mystery obsessed thank you so much so they said that uh Nicole checked herself into an Airbnb less than a mile from their home it's really weird some weird stuff like is it is it like a bit of a stalker case is Nicole ver the suspect super jealous that's where I'm going with this because I just I don't really know what else to think about it let me know what you think right Kelly also said alagan is how it's pronounced thank you so much so here's why for me if I were to speculate what the hell would the motive of this be I know you haven't heard the crime be getting to it but could it be jealousy did Nicole speak to them that she's going to to come and visit or what is it and if so why would they have over just to babysit type of thing right so ver and Roberts were doctoral students at different universities but Savannah was studying at the University of Pittsburgh but both women focused on eating disorders trauma and Body Image so they're both fifth year PhD students okay both of them are in the same field of study that's why I'm wondering if n was Nicole jealous of her or like what is going on here right Cara thank you so much for your sticker there Beach B says oh no I sense this is going to be a terrible case yeah especially because it involves babies six and a half weeks old so Savannah was studying the University of Pittsburgh the other one Nicole the suspect was studying in San Diego right and so both in the same field though so Savannah are Robert sheor is a PhD student in clinical and developmental psychology at the University of Pittsburgh studying under the mentorship of Dr Sophia Chas Bradley she also regularly collaborates with Tiffany a brown of Auburn University Savannah studies the develop um the development and prevention of body dissatisfaction and disordered eating in adolescence particularly among lgbtq plus youth to learn more about her work please visit her website and her website is very extensive her resume is like wow you know very long very extensive lots of studies both very academic if I really had to say who if they were competing okay I I think that Savannah was winning I think she was winning okay now I don't know I'm just speculating because I don't understand what Nicole is charged with why that would even happen Okay so Nicole grew up in the tri state area and is a graduate of pepper Dean University who holds a degree in in Clinical Psychology both super successful women okay so how did they connect I don't know I don't know where exactly they met is the man the link between them with these two friends before and from where apparently this is a little screenshot that I got from um one of my sources is linked in the description box where they talk about them connecting on X it says but Roberts made reference to her at least twice once in January 2022 where she referred to B's incredible work and once in May of 2021 when she wrote a post to ver saying you are going to do an amazing job I can't wait to hear about your experience so Savannah who's the mom of the two babies she was super encouraging to Nicole she seemed really sweet really encouraging and I think that she's a little bit more qualified if I could say it like that even though they're both fifth year right Savannah's also a fifth year PhD student uh just a side note that Nicole was also an instructor at cycle bar in Caramel Valley San Diego so I saw and read it people were like what she was like my cycle bar instructor like what do you mean no she had the best playlist like where is she shame so there's people out there like what I'm I'm trying to understand the charger she did what now allegedly right okay so uh keep going sorry I'm just s comment them I'm like what all right rexie said celebrating my 50th wedding anniversary with the Grizzlies oh my goodness Rexy thank you for being here and happy 50th wedding anniversary to you and your partner that is awesome wow all right so now we go to Saturday June 15th of 2024 now listen to this okay Nicole was alone with the twin boys remember 6 and a half weeks old and she said that she noticed blood in one of the baby's diapers or injuries to his genitals so she notified her friends the parents I do not know where the friends were I don't know if they were out celebrating their wedding anniversary and they asked uh Nicole to babysit that if she was a jealous stalker type would make her pretty pissed off I'm not too sure I'm not blaming anyone I'm I'm just think trying to I'm trying to understand so to suddenly be like whoo there's blood in his diaper and his genitals have got injuries that's okay so the parents then whether they were in another room or came home or whatever the parents took that little baby to the hospital okay and that was the was the UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh so they take the one baby to the hospital they leave the other baby in the care of Nicole now a lot of people when I look at social media because I want to really wanted to see what do people think about this CU I'm like I have so many questions a lot of people were saying why would they not take both if they suspect anything but at that point I don't think they suspected that their friend caused the injuries they were just like oh my word he's like got let's say blood in the nappies right like oh my let's take him to the hospital and why would they leave the other baby with her well people have said of course uh the obvious it's not good to take a newborn to a hospital full of sick people right of course I know the argument you could have kept one in the car the other one goes in whatever it is but at that point they clearly still felt safe to leave the other child with Nicole so while they're at the hospital with one baby that does have injuries it's not just made up okay that baby had injuries Nicole is a home alone with the one baby now trigger one okay when Nicole was alone with baby Leon she said that she had gone into the family's kitchen to get a baby bottle when she heard one of the babies screaming so this is all cited and quoted from the criminal complaint I'd love to see a police interview um I'm waiting to get the criminal complaint these things take time sometimes and all the media that has it never posts it it's like my pet peeve just post it somewhere so we can read it we want the facts right we don't want speculation we want the facts but they say Nicole was alone with baby Leon and she says she went to the family's kitchen to get a baby bottle that she heard him screaming she says when she returned the baby was on the floor and out of his bouncer seat she called 911 at approximately 11:15 p.m. and told police that she was the one who observed the injury to the other twin earlier and she was the one who notified the parents they say their biry was staying in a nearby Airbnb on South Graham Street when asked to care for the baby all right very interesting uh Caroline let's see what you said there you said could be totally accidental problems and maybe parents who want to blame somebody anybody that's what people are saying on social media too like could it be accidental let's dig a Little Deeper let's see so Savannah and Ethan told the police that Nicole was alone with baby Ari just before she told him about his injuries and she was alone with leyon when he suffered blun force trauma and multiple skull fractures oh dear so those that's that's not just like one coincidence it's two which is a red flag okay so Nicole told the police that she kept baby leyon in a bouncy chair while his parents were at the hospital occasionally changing burping and feeding him throughout the night don't you think it's a little late I mean I don't have kids but I can already I know like it's too late to have a kid in a bouncy chair is it not is 11:15 please correct me if I'm wrong to me that sounds so weird that the baby is not like lying down somewhere sleeping bouncy chair 11:15 when you're calling 911 H all right so so Nico say she kept the baby the whole time you kept the baby in a bouncy chair the whole time I don't know man while the parents at the hospital occasion changing buring feeding him throughout the night at approximately 11: p.m. she told the police that she went to the kitchen to get a bottle for the baby but did not want but did not strap him into the chair okay she told police that she came back into the room and she found little Leon on the ground with a large bump on his head she called police at 11:17 p.m. to report that baby Leon had fallen from a bouncer seat and bumped his head she told dispatches the baby was conscious but having trouble breathing so here's a little screenshot from an article where they say ver told police that she started taking care of Leon at about 6:30 p.m. on Saturday the complaint said he was functioning normally he had eaten and soiled two diapers and had been burped ver told police she fell asleep you see that's now a different story again I'm like is she telling different stories or is the media just reporting different things but they say this she fell asleep for a period of time while Leon was in the bouncer seat the complaint said when she woke up she went to the kitchen to get a bottle for Leon and heard the baby screaming all right Dr bull butter always like saying your name hey Grizzlies we feeling snarky yet I'm ready is anyone feeling snarky I'm kind of withholding my snark for a moment yet I'm like what is going on in this case so right so they say versy told police she fell asleep fell as fell asleep for how many hours especially if the baby was in the bouncy chair and then apparently fell out and was screaming at like 11:00 p.m. that's quite interesting and Luna said a 6 we old won't be able to get out of that seat even not strapped in even that right even that that's what I wanted to know like could a baby fall out of the bouncy chair there we go Linda said a six we baby can't fall out of a bouncer seat mhm mhm Carol said 6 weeks old baby in bouncy seat is questionable they are too tiny so they say she said she found Leon lying on the floor and picked him up the complaint said she saw a large bump to the left side of Leon's head mm mhm all right paramedics responded and took Leon to a children's hospital where he died shortly before 6: a.m. police said that Nicole now here's another red flag police said that Nicole could not provide a plausible explanation for the injuries besides him falling out of a bouncy chair they probably challenged that and she just couldn't she said that the children's parents took one twin to the hospital around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and she was left to care for Leon on her own she told police that she fell asleep well baby Leon I'm I know I'm repeating some things but we repeating the timeline and getting all the information from all the different sources right we're going over it with a fine tooth comb based on what we know so far okay that that baby Leon was in a bouncer seat when she got up she say she went to get a bottle and found him on the floor screaming and noticed that he was becoming non responsive I'm just hearing lots of different things being said here so they say the complaint noted that Miss Bersy was the only one who discovered the scratches while she was changing the child's diaper that's the first child Ari who went then to the hospital and the parents said they'd seen no injuries prior to miss verie pointing them out uh the alany hope I said it right this time County Office of the medical examiner Dr ARL goldshmid later performed a preliminary autopsy and determined that Leon's cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and ruled his death a homicide so I mean if a autopsy is being performed I think they would also know the difference between falling out of a bouncy chair and blun force trauma am I right based on everything we know about true right so they said uh Leon this is what his parents said Leon will always be remembered as a happy smiley goofy baby boy his untimely and tragic death has deeply impacted the Pittsburgh Community occurring on Ethan's first Father's Day and the parents first wedding anniversary if we were to speculate and I'm only speculating for a second if Nicole for any reason desired either one of those parents I don't even know which one and they're celebrating these very special occasions this family newborn babies wedding anniversary first Father's Day that's a very exciting weekend for her to show up or to be around or to be invited I don't know but if for any reason she was jealous of whoever else oh my that seems to me the only motive I could possibly think of of course she's innocent to proven guilty so there's the mug shot again of course all right well just I just Qui want to see that don't miss a comment oh relle said Google only get a baby bouncer seat only after checking your baby's weight height movement and head control the baby May topple over or get hurt if they're not physically ready to use a bouncer thank you so much uh I like said the parents are some of the kindest humans it's absolutely devastating it is so devastating I mean these babies were born in May they were only 6 and 1/2 weeks old like what goes on here why I just wow okay so arri the baby that was taken to the hospital right first when Leon was left in the care of Nicole Ari had scratches bruising swelling and redness there's a lot of injuries as well and the baby's parents say they didn't see injuries before I know that there's going to be people playing Devil's Advocate that will say well how do we know well we don't know but I guess the medical examiners will know because a question I would have would would they be able to prove especially of course for this trial then that the injuries occurred that were like new injuries you know what I mean did they occur that weekend wow okay so a CT scan later determined that little Leon suffered a skull fracture along with multiple brain bleeds the injury sustained by both twins are consistent with having been sustained as a result of child abuse as these are inflicted injuries that are not natural and not accidental a doctor informed detectives according to the criminal complaint doctors who examined the baby's injuries found a skull fracture on the left side of his head and several brain bleeds now the reason I highlighted left side is because Nicole said oh when she went to you know she had she went she was sleeping then she went to the kitchen clearly it sounds like without checking on the baby her story is like wow I was like sleeping went to the kitchen made a bottle heard the baby screaming and then oh my word there he was he fell out of his bouncy chair and she said he he was lying on his left side now you see those very specific details she Shar is I think it's a bit of a red flag if the injuries are all the skull fracture on the baby's left side okay and there's several brain bleeds and she's particularly saying yeah yeah he was he was lying on his left side right Carrie said multiple head traumas from more than one strike yes they can prove mechanism if uh Jerry and time shaken baby syndrome very scary right okay so silly B said I think they mean those newborn seats that by I don't think they mean an actual bouncy chair and if they do that's crazy I don't know because they haven't shown a single picture of it and every single Source I've looked at they talk about a bouncy chair right so I don't know if it's one of those that they can like line and just like vibrates a little bit and makes them comfortable or if it's like those bouncy ones I also thought that's for a little bit older kids um ekc said it's a seat that can be moved a bit not a bouncer oh thank you ekc then shame on the media or the police report if that's what's in the criminal complaint if they they keep saying bouncy chair right okay so details are important we want to know so I'm also um putting a little flower on the face of the surviving child of course man and there on the right hand side is a picture of Nicole interesting I'm going to show you a clip of her as well uh Nicole's father maintains her innocence Nicole's attorney David shreer said we are at the beginning of our investigation but it's important to note that my client has no criminal history whatsoever she's a PhD student and a longtime friend of the family well on this channel we've covered a couple of PhD students who did some questionable things do you remember that PhD student who just suddenly drove over in Florida to his mother's house and and stabbed her to death I mean that's that if you haven't heard of that it's in my video section that is crazy so if one is academic or book smart it doesn't mean that one cannot commit criminal acts right but I understand what they mean it's just like squeaky clean record and super academic and obviously a lot to lose we've looked obviously remember we've looked at dentists we've looked at plastic surgeons and all sorts of people committing all sorts of crimes so nothing will really shock me anymore but okay I understand what the attorney is trying to say here he said she's a PhD student who was a long time friend of the family our client denies these allegations she's a loving person and a friend to these people and would never harm anyone's child let alone theirs he said this is the attorney by the way she's going to be 30 years old she's a PhD student she's long-term friends with a family in this situation and as I've said it doesn't show any criminal history no background and we're anxious to get our day in court right now she's charged with a general count of homicide which for the most part bond is not available of course we're going to be doing our due diligence on that end and see if we can make some changes there okay interesting um I just quickly want to see something thank you everyone that's emailing me the difference between uh the bouncy chair or not let me show you a picture quickly it's probably more like this should see where it comes up there we go okay it's a big one hold on there it's probably something like this right is what they're referring to rather than those that have like the the round thing where they kind of stand up and they can jump right I think it's more something like this again I'm speculating I haven't seen a picture of it okay so interesting we'll keep going I'm just I'm so shocked by this by this cas it's unbelievable so they say one of her friends say she did not know her to be violent but she noted that she did have interpersonal issues now I would love to hear from that friend if you're also won't share that then if you ask me not to okay so uh yeah t said I can't imagine a fall from something like that being fatal and I don't think what they're saying with multiple skull fractures and brain bleeds and then don't don't forget the other child had all kinds of swelling and bruising and scratches and was bleeding in his diaper like what was going on there okay so yeah someone says uh there we go t and wild flers well that's a red flag right one of her friends saying she didn't know it to be vent but she did have interpersonal issues she said I would say she was a little rigid she was nice but very driven and motivated that's what the colleague and friend said they didn't name her or him that's what they said now the reason I highlight that as well is because very driven and motivated could that also equate you very competitive you know what I mean like imagine if she was competing with the mother of the children maybe she wanted her life maybe she wanted her resume you know maybe she wanted her man maybe she wanted her home her kids everything I don't know I don't know what I don't even know what to think about the psychology of this based on what she's charged with but let me know what you think so these are some questions that I have which is why I'm saying I'm keeping a very open mind as I always do but like in this case I'm just like really trying to understand so why why was she babysitting for her friends why was she in town how much experience does she have with children cuz she could study all she likes but how much experience does she have with children you know was she nurturing towards children does she want children of her own could she have children of her own how do we know how do we know H does she have a boyfriend or a girlfriend does she have love interest what what's going on huh huh okay so uh why would she point out injuries of one baby and then harm the other one intentionally doesn't that sound just crazy like why would she do that be like this baby is injured okay and then they take the baby to the hospital and then she's alone with the other baby why would she then murder that one it's so crazy oh my goodness like what kind of mental state is that okay so then what type of bouncer seat was it yes okay so we've cleared that up a little bit right we looked at it's probably something more like this CU that's what I was wondering what type of bouncer seat was it is it possible the baby fell out were doctors able to determine that baby AR's injuries from were from that weekend and of course I think doctors of course would be able to I'm just wondering for myself over here like are they able to tell that it was new injuries okay so let me read this on the left first so they've got a GoFundMe the family okay and they say and by the way it's their friends that set it up because I saw on social media some people pointed out red flags for the family starting a GoFundMe and I know in some cases sometimes a GoFundMe is a red flag okay it has been in cases unfortunately or sometimes people whip a fake ones or whatever it is so all I know is that they didn't start the Gund me themselves but their friends did because I checked them out I saw their names I searched for them on Facebook I saw okay they exist although and they from Pittsburgh and all that but I couldn't actually find their profiles on Facebook so just always be careful with gofundmes as much as people want to help just just be cautious right anyway so they said in addition to coping with the unbearable loss of their beloved Son Leon savan and Ethan are facing significant financial burdens funds raised will cover funeral expenses medical bills resulting from injury sustained by both Leon and Ari essential baby suppliers and relocation costs as they navigate this difficult time relocation cost are they going to move because of the trauma are they going to move because they want to be as far away from this one as possible because she scared them because she's a stalker or what what are we talking about right who knows wow okay yeah chai te I see a lot of people on social media asking this why would the parents leave the other child with her after one child got injured I think as I said earlier I think they wouldn't have suspected that the baby got injured from her at that point and they wouldn't want to take a newborn to a hospital and expose them to all sorts of of germs is what I'm thinking that's what people are also saying right let me know what your thoughts are so on the right hand side the attorney said she's obviously devastated well we don't know that how do we know she's obviously devastated but okay she's obviously devastated she's highly distraught and deeply sad she said it was nothing intentional okay but that mean if she says it was nothing intentional yes and the attorney is saying you know these mistakes happen all the time that the baby could have fallen out I don't know what happened to the other one like how is the one injured and the other one is murdered I mean that's a lot that's two babies not just one if it was one case like one baby and you're like maybe maybe they fell out of the chair or something but maybe not there's two one injured and they said genitals injured I mean what so they said we're doing a deep investigation I'm not sure why the attorney is saying we're doing an investigation all time because of course he's the attorney the investigators are investigating she has no criminal history we will do our best to give her a fair Hearing in court this is a case with a dead child and a young lady in jail and it should not be speculated on before the case goes to court well guess what welcome to 2024 where YouTubers and the audiences will talk about it and we might actually speculate what happened here because it's extremely concerning and we want to learn lessons from these cases I guess one lesson would also be I mean you can't you can't foresee this but like even if someone is a really close friend a really good friend very trusted friend maybe they're not so good with children be very careful careful who babysits your kids it's always hey in True Crime it's always like be careful who you let around your kids who's in your home around your kids especially alone that's an ongoing red flag R Java junky said they probably can't bear to be in the same house anymore how devastating rest in peace sweet boy and he was only 6 and a half weeks old I can't imagine I mean the dad was about to celebrate his very first Father's Day oh my goodness and the couple was celebrating their wedding anniversary yeah if it turns out that she stalked them and was jealous of Savannah I won't be shocked I won't be shocked but at this point we don't know so one more time Nicole ver is 29 years old she was arrested on June 16th of 2024 and her next court hearing is July 24th at 2:30 p.m. and that's in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania because she's in the alany county jail she's pleaded not guilty she has no bond okay so I want to just show you a clip or two so just hold on one second here is her profile out there okay so she's I don't see that she has her own like website or something I can only see this profile but if we were to speculate what if she felt super jealous of Savannah well there might be a reason to feel super jealous cuz Savannah was super accomplished and studying in the same field and doing extremely well and clearly um I think they're married I think Savannah and Ethan are married married two uh newborn children I mean I think if we speculating that maybe she was jealous mhm there's a lot to be jealous about it looks like so Savannah R Roberts this is her website and she I mean just look at her resume my goodness hold on one second like wow there's a lot there I'll I'll just um put this link in the description box if you want to check out all her qualifications please never harass her don't harass any family members ever from this channel ever I know some people do that why why do people do that um leave them in peace sham man I just want to show you that she's got a lot going on on her website and I I don't see a lot going on for Nicole based on the website and who's tutting her tutoring her or mentoring her or her connections I mean Savannah is just it seems like outshining her now I'm not trying to play them up against each other I'm just trying to speculate why on Earth would Nicole if she did this why would she do something like that Joanna Newberg happy birthday to you let's see everybody at this r street she stayed in Airbnb she checked herself into her Airbnb that's so weird Okay meaning meaning given the circumstances so you're checking yourself in there but then you babysitting a bit you visiting a bit it's just I don't know so okay and uh they stayed on this Walnut in this Walnut Street area so very she she stayed very close to the home okay now we're going to look at this clip quickly here who was babysitting her friends infant twins has been charged with killing one of the boys and injur the other it happened this weekend in sh let's just boost this a little bit side and now she's in the alany county jail Shelley Bortz is there and joins us with the details Nicole verzy is behind bars here charged with homicide after police say six week old Leon Catz died while in her care unimaginable H just just uh terrible and I feel so sorry for the family it's an unimaginable crime yet police say it happened in this Shady Side neighborhood six- we old twin boys one killed the other injured at the hands of their babysitter they're so innocent they didn't ask for this and uh helpless uh you just don't understand you know why someone would have this in their heart to terrible feelings what would precipitate something like this cannot imagine cannot imag so uh Jen X Jen 71 says how long does she know her I also want to know I want to know how long they knew each other you know where they met how long were they friends how close were they say a very trusted friend but they live on opposite sides of the country and seemed like they grew up in different places so I'm not too sure I want to know as well and also did they have other babysit I know the babies were only 6 and a half weeks old you know so did they need a babysitter because of the wedding bouncer the 911 caller was identified as 29-year-old Nicole verzy a friend of the baby's parents who was visiting from San Diego she told investigators six-week old Leon Katz fell from the bouncer when she left the room to get him a bottle Catz was rushed to UPMC children's hospital where he later died from blunt force trauma to the head that caused a skull fracture doctors who treated cats said his injuries were not accidental V's attorney David shreer disagrees our client was uh thrust quickly into a role of having to babysit a small child and an accident occurred and that child died and unfortunately but even that our client was thrust quickly into the role of having to baby said why why why was she thrust into that role this is the defense attorney so you know if it is a case of her if I speculate again pure speculation if she's stalking the guy and she wants to him or whatever or she's friends with a lady I don't know and then she's she she just arrives and she's like oh you guys go out you go out I'll Babys soon do you know what I mean because of defensive would be like whoa she was thrust into that role very quickly why why why I have questions oh my goodness itely accidents do happen and it's a sad thing it's an awful thing but it doesn't mean that someone's culpable according to the criminal complaint the reason verie was watching Leon cats Saturday night was because his parents had to rush his twin brother to the hospital for an injury to his genital area after being in ver care earlier that day Cat's twin brother was found to have scratches bruising and swelling I would ask the public to always listen to the facts and not jump to conclusions and allow the facts to come out as appropriate ver is charged with homicide aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children her bond was denied and the rest we know right it's just wow okay so here's another clip here and then we're going to see a clip of her too the woman who's being held here in the alag county jail on charges of killing one baby twin and assaulting the other is a friend of the parents who was visiting from San Diego Police charged 29-year-old Nicole ver is responsible for the severe skull fracture that took the life of 6 and A2 week old leyon cats over the weekend the alleged she did it while babysitting him inside the parents apartment on Walnut Street in Shadyside David shreer is her defense attorney in short you know our client denies these allegations uh she is a loving person um and a friend to these people and would never harm anyone's child let alone theirs she was watching the baby while the parents had taken the other twin to UPMC children's hospital because that baby twin had injuries to his genitals the criminal complaint says doctors informed detectives the injuries sustained by both are consistent with having been sustained as the result of child abuse as these are inflicted injuries that are not natural and not accidental pery was staying in an Airbnb apartment rental at this building on South Graham and Pittsburgh's friendship neighborhood less than a mile from the twins parents' home verie indicates online that she's a fifth-year PhD candidate at the University of California at San Diego Clinical Psychology program but I know that she's a very accomplished person that she either has her PhD or is getting it right now um and that she's very diligent about that but beyond that again we're at the beginning of this experience verie told police she was in the kitchen to get the baby bottle and heard the baby screaming that when she returned the baby was on the floor and out of a bouncer seat she called 911 she told police she was the one who observed the injury to the other twin earlier and notified the cardiovascular disease in 2022 within this study we aim to build upon previous research suggesting that in women somatic symptoms of depression may be important to the development of es schic heart disease risk factors and major adverse cardiovascular events we examine the relationships between symptoms of depression including cognitive and somatic symptoms metabolic syndrome inflammatory markers coronary artery disease severity and functional capacity in two independent cohorts of women with suspected esic heart disease in the wise cohort we also examine these variables as as predictors of all cause mortality and major adverse cardiac events over a 9.3 year followup period the Y sample included women with suspected esea with or without obstructive coronary artery disease the ycbd sample consisted of women with suspected esea and no obstructive coronary artery disease a condition known as enoa in both studies somatic symptoms of depression were associated with metabolic syndrome while cognitive symptoms of depression were not within the y s sematic symptoms of depression and metabolic syndrome were independent predictors of all cause mortality and major adverse cardiac events after controlling for known biological risk factors for adverse cardiac events while cognitive symptoms were not these results add to previous studies suggesting that somatic symptoms of depression May warrant specific attention in women with elevated cardiovascular disease risk they also highlight the importance of future research evaluating the biobehavioral basis of the prove I mean that's going to be difficult exactly when those injuries happen because there it's so strange that the one baby is injured you know and then and then they go to the hospital and then the other one has blun force trauma and that's homicide and Nicole is there alone now there's many things that we could still speculate but I'm going to leave it at that my mind is full of questions you know what will her especially if you think what will her defense be Oho that makes one start asking some interesting questions especially if she was like oh no I was just sleeping sleeping you know she could say that she was like ruied she was knocked out like what she was starting to look after this one baby Howa six and then she like woke up and then walked to the kitchen to make the baby a bottle and just heard them screaming she could make her defense could say well maybe someone else entered the home both times all the one time I don't know it's just like what a strange case right so Sinister and you just obviously you can't judge a book A book by its cover but just seeing her there just wouldn't know and we don't know because she's innocent till proven guilty but like wow the accusations are very very hectic right um so ekc said her father's a New York uh City cardiologist yes I know that's what we said uh in the presentation as well right here at the beginning her father is an apparently a very well-known one just trying to move myself over then we can see it so she's the daughter of a top NYC cardiologist Peter J verzy so I don't know there's so much to think about here I will keep you posted um if I do manage to get the criminal complaint which you know takes some time often times with a court sometimes quicker some Tak some time if I manage to get it and there's any details that I didn't share here that I learn from that then we'll meet again and we'll go over that if there's anything that we find out along the way then of course we'll go over that and she's next in court on July 24th at 2:30 p.m. uh that would be in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania right Carrie said given the multi skull fractures her credible defense will only be that she blacked out and was afraid to say that yeah even that I mean you know it's almost like doesn't it give you a little bit of coburger Vibes like someone who's an expert at certain things and then they're accused of certain crimes you know what I mean like I wonder what all her defense will come up with based on all her educational experience and psychology and maybe she'll say it was psychosis or she blacked out or whatever it is I don't know we will see we will see um yeah la me how how do I say that she said it wasn't intentional she knows what she did sounds like Sarah boon not intentional okay so I don't know if they're going to be streaming the hearing or not on July 24th if they are well we'll keep a look out for it and see if we can learn anything from that I'm not too sure right uh T Tre said is there any ring cam or video or digital forensics not that I've seen mentioned yet but as I say maybe once we have some documents or something then maybe we'll learn more I wonder as well you know but what a case it's so scary to think I mean think of the possibility because the police have to be pretty confident to arrest someone that they can actually you know prosecute so for them to say well she didn't even she can't even give plausible reasons of how the especially the first baby got the injuries can't really say so for the police to actually charge her with all these charges that she's facing homicide aggravated assault endangering the welfare of children that's very serious and if so then to think that she was a that's what the parents say a really good friend of theirs a trusted friend in their home and then one baby gets injured and they're like oh my would we have to take them to the hospital and she's like don't worry I'm speculating but I could just imagine it like don't worry I'll take care of little Leon you go ahead um and then that baby is murdered I mean that is really dark that's so scary so thank you so much everyone for being here and listening to this case
