Chicago Bears Just Got Good and Bad News

look the Chicago Bears they just got terrible news and on Saturday Chicago had to place three players on injured reserve but the most notable is undrafted free agent Ian wheeler um this ends the chance of these players playing in the 2024 regular season one of the players once again was a fan favorite undrafted rookie running back who had a really strong preseason appearance and I'm talking about Ian Ian wheeler and uh the Bears have until Tuesday to get their 90 man roster Trimm to 53 putting three players on IR I mean that gets them a few steps closer to that number but it's not really the way that you want to do it and um duly noted the Bears just suffered some serious injuries on Thursday night it makes me feel like I don't want to play four instead of three preseason games ever again and uh Ian wheeler he's headed to injured reserve that ends his season and he suffered an ACL tear on Thursday night against the Chiefs and this guy was a fan favorite right you guys are watching hard knocks this summer he deferred medical school to fulfill this dream that he had and that's a playing in the NFL and that's actually pretty cool and it was a really fun story and and he performed so well against Buffalo in the preseason lot of noise that he had an outside shot of making the Bears practice squad I think he had an outside shot of supplanting someone like Homer to get that last running back spot especially since he had some pop available in the return game he ran the ball five times for 43 yards and two touchdowns against the bills and it was looking so good uh and he finished the preseason with 52 rushing yards and two touchdowns on two on 12 carries and um yeah he ran five times for five yards he only averaged one yards per one yard per Rush at against the Chiefs and just blew the ACL and that's just really tough for the Howard product and so now we're looking at the Bears running back room it's probably pretty much decided now DeAndre Swift is our starter khil Herbert Roshan Johnson will be behind him and then Travis Homer he is still going to get this last spot and and good for him he has so much value as a special teamer and and really blessed to have him still but man I really was excited about wheeler I'm going to get back to him let's talk about a few other players that suffered injuries on Thursday night Douglas Colman tough story he was hospitalized for a neck injury good news though released from the hospital on Friday returned to Chicago but he had to be placed on injured reserve for the season he was taken off the field on a stretcher it was a really scary moment the 26-year-old he has been playing for the Canadian football leagues outow red blacks for the last three years and in 19 he was an all Big 12 safety for his efforts at Texas Tech so that's really impressive and according to Adam Hodge I'm gonna open up the story on shy City Sports you guys if you want to read a little more but according according to Adam hodj um Coleman and ride receiver nimba we Webster he had a growing injury the Simba Webster was placed on injured reserve as well so that's missing the season and Webster he's been on the French of a roster spot for more than one season I think it's the past three just one of the remaining players for the mat naggie era of Bears football that we're trying to forget um but the fact that he held on this long from that regime it shows that this guy really provided depth and it would have made him tough for him to make the roster because I mean we're looking at a wide receiver five or wide receiver six but um yeah I not sure if he would have made the 53 anymore he he would have been lucky to be on the practice squad but anyways I wanted to cover those two injuries and I just want to give a little encouragement regarding wheeler and personally once again I think this is hugely disappointing I was looking forward to seeing him on this roster once again to replace Travis Homer but this was one of my favorite storylines from hard hard knock and you're talking about literally an undrafted free agent from an HB cuu which is interesting in its own and he was just a grinder and he was looking to make this running back's room or be a return Specialist or a combination of both I really think he would have made this team and uh the quest is end end ACL and we've seen so many players return from ACL injuries I mean we forget how difficult it is to rehab from this and we kind of get numb to it but this is a severe injury and um I hope they recovers quickly I hope he's back in Bears camp next year I hope we keep him on the practice squad and we don't let another team poach him but obviously we don't have to worry about that he's on injured reserve and once again he had a multiple touchdown game against the bills and uh yeah kind of on Hard Knocks this is the guy's just impressively smart he's just a great young guy and although on Hard Knocks he was saying hey I'm focused on football it's kind of nice though because he did have a backup plan if this game if this game doesn't bring a career if it doesn't come to fruition he was chasing some admirable goals in the mental health field and and hear him say I've always been interested in behavior and mental disorders and um this is according to a December write up on Howard University's website and this is straight from wheeler after studying psychology in college I realized that medicine was the field for me so he graduated a Bachelor of Science in Psychology he mitored in chemistry he also served as a site coordinator for a dc-based health education and Equity organization called Grassroots health and that's led by Collegiate athletes and um yeah he was he aimed to create a community center in the future he wants to educate others and destigmatize mental health I mean come on how could we not root for this this guy a little more on him as a player on the field it's been commendable how far he's come 511 205 pounds he was the star running back for Howard he rushed for 1,150 yards and 14 touchdowns and 42 games for the bison and that's coming on to the team as a walk on I mean he I think he averaged about six yards per Rush which is impressive but not a ton of rushing yards for a college career his impact further than that way past rushing yards and he does have some receiver chops this guy is a return machine he had 1 1556 yards from Catching passes and returning kicks he finishes collegiate career with 27 and 10 2710 allpurpose yards and 18 total touchdowns for Howard and he was just an allaround player long list list of honors um HBCU star three-time all meac return specialist and that's three years running ending in 2023 last year onetime all meac running back that's in 21 three-time Phil steel FCS all meac kick returner and that's all of his years in college and just he was an allaround dominant player both on and off the football field named a multiple meac football all Academic Teams finished his collegiate career with a 3.57 grade point average and I can talk more about his production on the field you guys have watched the videos that I placed on him I was super hot on him but now we're going to have to temper expectations until next year but just a really good kid really wanted to highlight what a good man he is and um yeah good luck in your return next year I really hope it pans out and and have some more Talent uh to compete for a roster spot next year you guys let me know if you're as disappointed in this injury I know I am and uh but the good thing is as this team improves these injuries aren't as serious this is a team that is going to be really hard to make the roster regardless and uh hey we still have a great running back room so you guys uh bear down we also have vus Jones possibly joining the running back room as well we'll see her well where he ends up in the shuffle as far as this 53 and I can't wait you guys will talk
