hey guys something just happened that shows that the NFL is starting to get scared of the Chicago Bears and at the very least starting to show them respect what's up this is Sports Talk Bears I'm Sean you guys like And subscribe it's been you guys have been a blessing so this kind of all starts with the Bear's apparent failure to Land Matt judon and he just recently went to the Falcons and the Bears showed that they were willing to be aggressive willing to go further than expected to bring Matt judon to Chicago but the fact that they weren't able to close the deal I'm saying it's not a failure it's actually kind of a good thing but not in the way you think so looking back during this week Chicago were in the headlines uh when the Patriots agreed to trade pass rusher Matthew judon to the Atlanta Falcons lots of reports and they were correct that the Bears were also in on the judon deal they were a finalist and I like this in One Way shows GM Ryan poles is still going to be aggressive and improving the roster when he sees a player that he wants and he's also signaling that he believes that the Bears are willing are ready to win right now so we kind of look at the behavior of Atlanta they got judon they pass in likes of latu at number eight overall to take quarterback Michael Pennock Jr that allowed the Bears to take Rome Odun with the next pick uh the Bears and uh they also excuse me the f Falcons they also addressed Edge rusher in the third round with brilin twice tce he's now injured that's unfortunate so certainly judan was needed more by Atlanta than the Bears they s the Bears just simply wanted to get a running baate for montz sweat but here's where things got interesting um I originally thought the Bears wouldn't part with more than their 2025 fifth round pick for judan right it's an underestimation for how far Ryan po is willing to go when he sees a player he likes so NBC Sports Boston's Phil Perry he reported uh just on Thursday that the bears actually matched the offer and the offer was a third round pick that Atlanta offered for judon to New England so they had essentially the exact same author offer and that's super interesting and I'm going to go to this story on um excuse me I'm going to go to the story on Wendy citygrid iron.com you guys give them your eyes they are fantastic so this is according to Patriots Insider Phil Perry there are several teams interested in acquiring the 32 year-old according to League sources including the Bears Whose desire for a pass rusher LED them to offer a third round selection of their own so it's kind of crazy all it took was a third rounder to bring judan to Atlanta the Bears offer was exactly the same and um hey why did the Patriots take Atlanta's offer they took Atlanta's offer it was exactly the same why did the Patriots choose Atlanta's and I think it's because the Patriots looked at the Bears what they've done with their team and I don't know if you'd call it fear but definitely respect they looked at all that Atlanta did on their team they looked at all that Chicago did on our team and realized Atlanta's going to give them a better pick so I think that was the Lynch pin of why they picked Atlanta's offer offer and that's something completely new so once again the implication the Patriots thought the Falcons would be worse this year with the Bears that's something we're not used to that's honestly stunning I mean the Bears play in the same division as the Packers NFC runner up Detroit Lions and the Falcons you can argue that the Falcons have the best team in the NFC south on paper and to me this Pursuit even if it didn't work out it signals something big the NFL is preparing for the Bears to be good right now so we're looking at what Atlanta did it kind of mirrors some things Atlanta signed Kirk Cousins they added darnel Moody they added rondale Moore which unfortunately I think rondale Moore might be out for the season or severely injured um they already boasted a fairly complete roster on both sides of the ball the Patriots still looked at the Bears and figured they would finish with a better record than the Falcons and that is significant that's after Atlanta signed a big-time quarterback with Kurt Cousins and they also did two big free agent signings on the defensive side it looks like the Atlanta was becoming a pretty uh complete team so it appears that the whole league has taken official notice of the Bears roster and they're starting to be some fear or at the very least some respect we're looking at the Caleb Williams effect being absolutely real way before the draft Chicago traded for Keenan Allen uh six-time pro bowler we've got Romo dun we've got Swift we've added so much to this team bears look to have a dangerous at the very least top 10 defense I think it might even be top five because we have the best secondary in the league and the only thing missing was another pass stretcher op opposite Montes sweat the Bears still might pursue help there but um I don't think PS is interested in kind of nickel and diing it he's like hey if we can get judon that is an incremental difference I'm going to throw my hat in the ring and see what I can do so there also might be another reason too and Scott Pioli he had something to say about what actually went down and it's and it's actually a high-profile and very expensive free agent that was who judon was was going to become and according to peoli the snag for the Bears might have been due to the contract that judan was looking to sign the Bears wen't only speaking with the Patriots but also to judah's agents so it's a straight from peoli I had a front row seat listening to polls and there folks here talking with talking with it and when it happened I thought there was a really good chance but what it came down to was the money and what was going to be done with the contract he went to Atlanta based on the money and that situation what the contract was going to be so we're looking at that too that's got to be taken into consideration it might not have been completely a choice between the two but the contract was always going to be a hurdle for judon his relationship with the Patriots was not good because he wasn't offered what he deemed a fair extension he's set right now to make a base salary of 6.5 in 2024 that's the final year of his deal but he's been negotiating throughout this deal constantly year after year and after after year and he doesn't even have an extension with Atlanta done yet and that's according to CBS Sports Jonathan Jones but I think rest assured that'll happen with Atlanta I mean Atlanta has invested a third round pick they're going to have to negotiate that I don't know if they are secure knowing that it's going to happen but there is a consideration that possibly Chicago negotiated directly with judah's agent saw that a deal is going to be very difficult to get done if not impossible for what the Bears are willing to pay and that's one thing that our GM does right he draws a Line in the Sand he has specific valuations for players and when that valuation is crossed he's not really willing to compromise there's also a matter of did the Bears dodge a bullet is this actually does this fit the team build because we're looking at this judah's a 32y old player he's gonna be signed a big money is that really what this team build is so someone like judon though who turned 32 today by the way he likely wouldn't have fit the Bears plans for too long if he'd come here perhaps not unlike Keenan Allen uh the true window for the Bears that for a title it might be Williams second and third Seasons not this year we're looking for playoffs this year we're looking for possibly winning the division this year but a Super Bowl is possibly not in the cards unless you know you're s way more positive than I am so if you look at that if the Bears Championship window is possibly in Caleb Williams second and third Seasons that's saying judon is going to be 33 and 34 years old signed to a huge contract that kind of sounds like a bit of an Al Albatross right um the Bears might be thinking that the moments now just not later right so PS is like I'm going to throw my hat in the ring for this player if I can get him for this cost I'll do it otherwise I'm goingon to rely on this young talent and you're looking at momes too maybe he saw firsthand of course he did right how the Chiefs handled Patrick Mahomes first season maybe he wants to test the thought of the experiment of what it would have looked like if momes had started for Kansas City right away with Williams like could Mahomes have elevated that ready-made playoff team pass what Alex Smith did if given the chance like let's see if we can grab somebody like judan for a price that we're willing to pay and see if everything can be readymade for Caleb and possibly FastTrack it I don't know I'm just kind of it's kind of J conjecture at this point I think though judah's gone so let's table that there's really only two really big serious choices as free agents we've gotten gway still sitting out there he's been sitting out there long enough that maybe he'll come super cheap that'd be an easy answer right to still get a little more ret rotational pass rush um last year his season didn't pan out really as good as he'd hop but he has a fresh but we have a refreshed rejuvenated defense and a team for that matter it's possible that could bring it in gawe and he might get back to him old self a little bit excuse me you're also looking at Charles Harris he's a free agent he's a former first round pick back in 2017 most recently played for the Lions tallied 10 sacks over three seasons there including seven and a half for 2021 not super inspiring but that seems to be all that's left so I understand Po's not really going for these lower level guys he just kind of SW swung for the fences with judan he was outbid or um Atlanta simply isn't viewed as good as Chicago and New England just picked the better pick so there's another thing though is it possible that a trade is possible for Hassan reick from the Jets I mean that's a situation to monitor the Jets traded a third round pick for reck he's yet to play or practice with a team just demanded a trade a few days ago the Jets hold off the power here and even if reic holds out and he doesn't play if he ultimately signs elsewhere when his deal is up New York would receive a third round compensatory pick so if PS wants to go for reck it's going to take more than a third round pick reck's also going to demand a very high contract but he's younger I mean we'll wait and see monitor that situation but um man it's going to be way bigger of an offer I don't know if I'm into that and the way that we're looking at book developing the way that Hardy came on this last preseason game you've got DeMarcus Walker I think he's going to be a really strong play on the right side it's very possible that we don't definitely need this that judon was a luxury to try to win absolutely right now and follow how GM Ryan PS sees this team we're never going to know for sure but I just thought it was really interesting I think it's really cool that a team looks at the Chicago Bears which is something that we're not used to and Compares them to a team like Atlanta that looks like they're ready to win now and be like you know what I think the Bears are going to be better it's a really good thing you guys let me know what you think in the comments it is so good to hang out with you bear down and uh hey let's enjoy this preseason game this weekend see you later
