Chicago Bears Add Final Piece To Roster

hey guys this is great to see the Chicago Bears they just finished off their roster and just recently the Bears signed defensive tackle Sam Roberts to their practice squad now this isn't normally more than a blip but this move it def definitely tells us a couple things it likely means Zack Pickins not GNA be ready for week one this is due to a growing injury you guys know that injury can be tough to get over quickly to say the least and it also means that this signing comes with intent he's likely going to be brought on to the 53 player roster as a week one ad against the Titans um as that game approaches and man I just cannot wait for real football and see the Chicago Bears team in action and this guy he played in seven games and started one for the Patriots last season so this experience it trumps it trumps Michael dumer it trumps coward they were both released by the team so yes this is improved depth but this is also following the team trading for Chris Williams now with the signing of Sam Roberts both should be on the week one roster so let's talk a little bit about who Roberts is he's in his third season and formerly a New England Patriot playing 12 games over the last two seasons for the pets had one start and he typically lined up as a left defensive tackle and better yet this is a nice scheme fit for Coach Eber flu and I'm going to go to this story on Bleacher Nation you guys it it's just a good profile on him I would definitely check that out so a little more about him um this is just a nice scheme fit for Coach eberflus he played college ball at Southwestern Missouri State money to you guys if you can tell me immediately who the mascot is I don't think you can that's because it's a division 2 school and he was drafted in the sixth round in 2022 and uh Greg Gabriel at Wendy City grid iron he had this to say about him while I didn't see any sacks in the preseason he did have a fairly good interior pass rush he gets a good push he creates pressure his hand use is good and he's able to redirect his charge with moves and counter moves so in the bear scheme totally capable of playing either the one Tech or the three Tech but during the preseason th and this is interesting I didn't notice this the Bears weren't playing strictly one one Tech or three Tech but rather left and right defensive tackle so that means depending on the offensive for the offensive line formation that they're facing the defensive tackles could be a one te or a three Tech and that's going to be how the Bears play with their defensive tackles this fall and Robert's versatility he definitely helps and that's just a really good call on Gabriel so really the take on this player he plays with a high motor consistently he doesn't take plays off he's quick to get off the ball that definitely hits coach Eber Flo's hits principle he's shown he can get penetration too really good against the run and actually he looked pretty good with the Patriots over the preseason he had 10 sackal as just rotational lineman eight of them came just last week in their final preseason game so kind of coming out of school too good measurables 65 293 uh he ran a pedestrian 51340 but Gabriel brought up something else that I didn't see this is really an an interesting Insight he pulled up lame when he ran that he had a pull during his pro day that's when that measurement was taken so it's likely that he's more of a 4.95 and that's a pretty dramatic Improvement as far as a player speed at this position and if you watch the tape he plays with that kind of speed so that's really good so I think what I'm telling you this isn't really a prediction I'd say it's actually a heads up Roberts is going to be on the active roster at some point most likely week one and he should be an immediate contributor to this defensive front and that's really good news and here's something as well if you think about the Patriots they've always been a tough disciplined defensive team right you can say whatever you want about belich about how his tenure there ended but man he was a hard-nosed coach he demanded uh Perfection he demanded dedication he demanded playing hard and it says something that Roberts was a contributor on that defensive front uh helm by bellich right I mean for some reason he fell out of favor with the Mayo regime he was released but it's just a really nice quality signing by GM Ryan PS and the Bears the Bears staff and uh man just at the perfect time as Pickins recovers this Shores up the line immediately instead of waiting for an injury to heal it's just really nice urgency and I say this often but it's not always about the huge signing it's about these little ones these little ones that inch by inch push a team towards being Elite and that's where Chicago's at it's this attention to depth it's this attention to detail really just gives that last little oomph for a team coming up and um that that just little Edge combined with other little edges it's just it's just a really good thing that this staff gets it and that Ryan poles is paying attention to the details and now and now we've got a defensive line that the depth was pretty it was pretty suspect but now with these last three moves the Bears have really shorted up and I have a lot of faith on this defensive front I really don't think there's a weakness now these just fill out this line so you've got veteran depth on the defensive line at a much needed spot that was also done with the Chris Williams trade from the Browns another one with very little investment just like this still keeping the cap still fully healthy and flexible and I think we need to just trust our GM we're looking at both of these moves they are telegraphed a bit I already talked about this earlier with the Williams signing but it it Bears talking about again I mean coach Floy was asked about situational depth at defensive tackle it was made super thin after the Pickin injury and this kind of telegraphed all of these moves this is his response yeah it's not as strong and deep as you'd want for sure so there is concern we'll be looking at that as we go I know coward's done a nice job in there for the limited time he's played he didn't make the team but in practice he's looked good so we have some options there we're definitely going to look at that and this is proof that depth might be needed if you once again look back at that Kansas City preseason game we're looking at a rookie quarterback I believe his name was Carson steel he had 50 yards s on only five carries and these carries were right through the teeth of this Reserve defense no bueno right it was showing that this depth on this team was not quality at defensive tackle just poor Gap Integrity help right GM Ryan polls he provided it so we got the Taylor move absolutely love that then we've got the Williams pickup both of those were trades right very low value trades from our end it with two sixth round picks now we've got the Robert signing for the Patriots and it's just three quality depth pieces very little cost now this roster position is nice and deep just so well done and another thing that I like about the Bears how they've handled this they're not looking at the scrap peep they're not just grabbing Cup players GM Ryan PS I'm hope and I'm also hoping and I know that there was a lot of help from coach flu as well just identifying these players making lowrisk moves moves getting players that actually fit this scheme High motor players and um also not really putting the team in C Purgatory by doing it just some really nice moves and uh you guys let me know what you'd like to see profiled as we're getting closer to this game with the Tennessee Titans I
