LSU players speak on their performance level after 44-21 win vs. Nicholls

[Applause] I come the coach's trust in him um he did a great job in practice and a great job I feel like in week one so they let him loose and it definitely shows werak thinks I think it's just little things I mean it's just one person missing their assignment or not communication like communicating so it's just a little things as when we get those correct and and practice during the week I think um Those runs are going to be gashes for sure on the first touchdown uh play not played the goal line on for the first touchdown your line of at fullback how much practice have you got that fullback oh we we had a a few plays out of that formation so yeah it was a good play um and try got to catch his first touchdown so that was great for him when did you make uh Jaan Johnson going out there and getting a couple catches getting a touchdown sounds like BK wants him to be a bigger part the offense going for would you make it his first performance yeah it was it was very impressive I mean uh he came early this week and it's like he he's been on the offense forever he he knew the Playbook coach uh Coach Frank Wilson he uh he did a great job uh teaching him and I think he picked up on the offense really fast and it showed tonight for sure Jon how do you guys get more physical I mean you know this offensive line was highly touted and you guys aren't blowing anybody off the ball right now so how do you teach or learn physicality in you know in the midst of the season what does it require for you yeah I think that just it's just the want to be physical I mean you can only um teach and coach so much physicality I think if we just we just need to go out there and want to be physical and it's just a mindset you know so as long as we could just change our mindset to be U physically dominating then we can be physical coach Kelly just said after the game that he thought the team was fatigued tired this game did did you feel like it was a long week for you guys it was a quick turnaround so I mean some can say but I mean I don't want to make excuse for ourselves it was a quick turnaround a long flight we got back at 5: in the morning I mean people could say what they want to say but um I think um we could just we just need to prepare better and during the week and we need to come to play for sure I think we're all going to freak out a little about the lack of rushing yards but Brian did say you guys checked out or some things because of the box and the looks that you were getting so knowing what was called and what was executed I guess should we maybe not make as much about it because you are able to move the ball through the air yeah I just saw a lot of man a lot of man pressure so I mean why not take advantage of we had a best receiving room in the um in the country and one of the best quarterbacks so I think as long as we get the ball ball in in the hands of the receiver room I think we'll be fine what is the next step I guess for this offense as you guys go into a game against South Carolina that you're going have a lot of eyeballs on you how much game days is going to be there just what's the next step of the evolution of this offense just a quick turnar around uh watch this film be critical and just um know your job so I think this week's going to be a huge week of preparation for us and as long as we Pride as hard will be good do you feel like it's the living up to the potential of this team is the challenge right now I mean it's it is early right but like I think we all expect a lot of you guys it seems like you're just kind of inconsistent right now yeah as you should I mean um I think what we got to get better at is our mindset um we got to play with a sense of urgency and we got to flip that mindset so it's just that's just one thing that could flip our mindset in a day so that's just one of those things that we got to do thanks thank appreciate it uh what would you say like about them I think they did a great job uh creating depth early in the season is really important cuz guys can go down at any time just like you saw today we have some guys go down so I mean having a next man up mentality is really important yeah tell me what that tackle room looks like now you know not knowing jacoban status but how big he was for you obviously J got some a lot of minutes tonight what are they going to have to do yeah I mean next man up like I said I mean I don't know what happened to tank and what his status is going to be but he's obviously a big part of that room he's probably the leader of that room so him going down those guys just going to have to come together and it's not just going to be them uh the whole defense as a whole has to help out those guys linebackers has to help them and safy have to help them just everyone in general how about the physicality Brian's talked about this two weeks in a row now you guys needing to bring the Hat a little bit more yeah especially up front I think we need to be more physical the uh front front seven guys and I don't know about the offensive side and things like that but us on defense I think we definitely need to be more physical at the point of attack how how is that for you you know perk especially because you guys are doing different things right like watch and see what you guys are trying to do but you know you're not necessarily just pumping in there all the time right yeah so I mean sometimes we have to key the tight end and things like that it's hard especially for fans they sometimes don't really understand what we're really trying to do so like you said so I mean everyone just has to do their job and trust a man next to him because that's one thing start to go bad when you start doing that about every other the other person's job yeah we just talking to Mason about the potential of this team yeah it seems like you guys aren't really hitting on it right so as a guy that's kind of knows what the potential could be how do you how do you get everybody else you know moving in the right direction I think we just need to come together as a team uh when things aren't going well like today on defense those first couple jobs or whatever uh the end of the second half just come together and execute really it's about execution man the whole team offense defense aspect team if we execute we'll have a good outcome spord had a pretty good Game it look like yeah gay play uh pretty good uh he's always flashed like during uh spring and fall so I'm not surprised he pretty good was the team fatigued this week coach talked about that I mean I think a lot of guys are fatigued I mean you going to be fatigue playing football I mean even though we had a short week I think Tuesdays and Wednesday Wednesdays are always hard even if we didn't have a short week so I mean it's not really an excuse honestly how about Jan stepping in flipping back you know flip him back to offense for him to step in and get score and play Early yeah that's great man uh early in the week I was talking to uh the assistant running back coach he was saying he's a natural back there so it's great to see him go out there and score a touchdown his first game play running back about the way they play I mean they've got a bunch of instate guys and this is their Super Bowl off like your Chemistry car there been any kind of learning curve or um I'm definitely feeling more comfortable um you know I'm playing a lot of different positions so just me just just learning the concepts as a whole makes it easier for me to just you know go out and and not think and just go out and play CJ you know we're all going to look at it and be like oh they can't run the ball right but Brian kind of talked about you guys checking out of plays and taking the looks that they're giving you right how much of that goes into the offense yeah just playing the game that you're dealt I guess um you know I think we we do a good job of you know reading defenses uh nus is definitely a guy who who can check and you know switch the play up at any time so you know we definitely got to be on our on 10 at all time because you know he could change the play at any time so how how was it I guess just out there tonight in Tiger stadium for the first time it was a great experience um you know my first ever home game here at LSU was definitely a great experience a lot of great fans um it was very cool it was a good Wier and we got time for one more question here when you see a guy like Jaan just flip the ball the middle of the week and have the game that he did what does it say about his AB it's it's crazy because I heard about him in in high school and he has like every record in Louisiana and for him just to be able to switch on offense and come in and make plays and adjust I I definitely think the sky is a limit for that guy all right thank you CJ appreciate [Music]
