Intro [Music] everybody welcome to breakfast with Bob here in beautiful in these France we are brought to you by they'll fix polar you can active premium plus sports travel let's see clay restaurant it Hotel West End and our next guest mr. Cyril Vimeo right vino vino Vienna it's up to you Vienna Vienna so great to see you again yeah great to see you I'm either ukelele but I know we've got the siren instead so having the World Championship here in France that's pretty cool right yeah it's very cool yeah I never did 7.30 championship you know was qualified maybe 7th time but never took the slot and this year in France so yeah you have to be here yeah I have to be here and this is a five hour drive for you from home yeah six hours so not so far yeah we can come with family and friends and so it's perfect and not have to pack up the bike and go to the airport yeah it's easy no need to wait at the airport we leave whenever we want so yeah that's perfect that's perfect so when did you get into traffic because When did you get into triathlon you were you were swimming you're in gymnastics for four years you played a year of soccer table-tennis yeah I did a lot of sports but I did my first one when I was 12 yes so quite early but I didn't fully train it was just for fun and it was very progressive you know and when I was 21 I did a good result at French under-23 French championship by French I thought okay I have to train a little because can be good yes and after I trained harder but not not so hard and I worked I did French Grand Prix I did some long-distance threatens and when I did my first Ironman race I was quite well prepared but not like a pro yes and I finished seventh overall seventh or I thought okay no you have to try to train very hard and to see what happened right now it was very very progressive this was when I was 28 so you so yeah into a little later and now you were teaching physical education yeah yeah that's right but I did I don't work anymore since 2013 but yeah I'm still a spot teacher yeah I'm unpaid like a spot teacher but to do treatment so when you were doing both When did you stop working your teaching and trying to be a pro you were 12th in Kona something like twelve yeah exactly in 2013 when I stopped working and so youth then you were like I'm going full time before that yeah yeah yeah I took the decision early in the year before Hawaii I said yeah okay in the top 15 I'm the only guy who works so I have to try to stop working and try to be the best I can and did that make a When did you start training big difference in your training when you started trying for much difference because when I was teaching I couldn't go in training camp whenever I wanted so for example for Hawaii the preparation was in Picardy so quite cold and you meet the weather in September you know the back to school everything to do it was very very different I had training camps only on holiday time and I was not a lot at home so yeah it's very different no I can do whatever I want go wherever I want to race and spend as much time as I want if my wife is okay of course but after you left teaching A bad crash then you were at a training camp and had a bad crash yeah yeah in 2014 yeah it's a it's so far for me because I could die in this accident you know I had my broken ribs and I was three months without running and swimming and and more importantly you had given up your Giving up her job job yeah yes no Edgar money to accept it from my club Bava tree at home at the time who was a huge support to to continue to do traction and yeah it was it was not a good moment but that led to getting fifth yeah yeah she was so angry at training you know I wanted to prove something to myself and I trained so hard during six months and I had a huge season regarding the accident because I won the Iron Man UK yes first victory on Ironman distance I was in ITU World Championship in China so I came to Hawaii and I said okay if I see my season it's perfect I did a very good season so how is just bonus no I will try my best but I don't care about the results right so I said I just want to finish this season I'm very tired and finally I was in very very good shape so yeah it was very special year yeah and you get fifth place yeah yeah yeah and His best result really no nobody was expecting nobody yeah you I wasn't expecting so then now that's the highest finish ever for a Frenchman yes yes it's hard to say that because if you say that too to other countries they are just laughing but yes it's the best result but then Pressure the following year pressure yes of course but pressure but from me first because I wanted to do better right you know when you when you feel if you wanna como do you want to come back and do ten right right so yeah I want you to do podium but you got sixth yeah six nothing wrong with that I mean if when you're fifth it's hard but well that is very special because now if you say me this year will be six I say okay I think that I take that but at this time when I finished thick sighs so what about race yeah it was special but it was good moments absolutely and you mean you've had you've been you know 15 18 12 you've had some some good really good performances there how has the racing change there it seems like people are riding the bike so much faster yeah yeah it's faster and faster every year maybe five six years ago you could you had Sebastian king who was riding very very strong yes and the profile was a little slower than him I know more and more people are riding fast so the it changed the race a lot before that Pro we're waiting for the run you know no nobody wants to wait for the run you've got to get away now yeah how has that changed the way you train for Kona there's a lot more on the bike the bike was my favorite discipline so it didn't change a lot you know I just try to increase my level and write do my best but didn't change really my training so doing this race a month out Expectations from Kona obviously this is in your home country important to be here what are your expectations for this weekend my expectations is to finish the race on my bike because it's very technical it is right so I want to go to canal so I will try to finish the bike on my bike yeah make sure you don't fall out yeah right yeah but my expectations are to try my best I train hard I'm quite fit so you know when I had a look at the startled eyes start least I thought wow what happen's I don't know I don't know we will see but I think for me at the 15 would be a big race yeah yeah when you look at Javier Gomez Bike Lap and Alistair Brown yeah the field is deep and I don't know how these guys will manage the the race so we can't know that it's very special here I think we never had a bike lap like that never I don't know yeah it's it's funny because very seldom do you have a bike with this much up and this much technical downhill and that's really gonna separate people I think it will be surprising so I hope I will surprise myself yes have you been here have you trained on this course much a little some years ago and for this year no we just arrived yesterday and did the by Club to see how it is to remain but no but I trained out in the montains in Omaha yes so I did a lot of Montagnes on the bike so it should be okay you're gonna be great we'll see when you look Best Race back at all the racing you've done do you look at that fifth place in Kona was that your best race even though you've had wins or you look at another race is more important for you yet this race is it just changed my life I can say that so yeah yeah it's very important race I was in a very great shape but when I won the ITU World Championship was a really important part of my career to die for I didn't say this race is more important than this race you have the boss race are very important they both come together yeah Dealing with injuries did you ever when you're dealing with the injuries did you question if you made the right decision living teaching for sure at the beginning I didn't know if I could just have the same level as before the accident right so it was a it was complicated but after some month about that you know I'm not thinking about that every time it for me it's in another life and I didn't exist them in a good shape I'm strong so yes it's like I never had an accident so yes great how Triathlon in France has triathlon progressed and grown here in France is that if you've seen a big growth in the sport yeah yeah of course because when I did my first Hawaii it was quite surprising to have a French like me not well-known not famous doing Kona now everybody wants to go to Kona we have more and more young people trying to do long-distance ten years ago you had only people who did a short distance who did long distance when they were old no you have young guys who wants to do long distance first so it's very different and we see that long distance is more important in firms than 10 years ago I love that it's cool Cyril thank you so much for taking time thank you for always a pleasure I catch up oh no this one your Hassan is better here it is right yeah I love it Cyril V&O has been our guest again hold on everybody we will be right back
