Nevada Senate Candidate Captain Sam Brown Tells Us His Incredible Story of Survival | Clay and Buck

we are joined by Captain Sam Brown he is running for Senate in Nevada a critical Senate race he is a combat veteran a Purple Heart recipient he's got a new book out as well a live day Captain Brown honored to have you on the program sir first time I'm getting a chance to talk to you thanks for being here it's it's great to be here um thanks for having me on and um and uh look I if I may just uh for a moment um you guys are doing a terrific job promoting this seg I got a text from my mother saying son I hear you're going to be on the on the show today so mother out there I love you um you took care of me for six months after I was wounded and um I just want you to know that uh I am the man I am today in large part because of your your love and and support Captain Brad if I can just say uh first off your mother sounds like an amazing mom and a great American a and she also has phenomenal taste in radio so we're off to a very strong her listening and being aware and also having done a fabulous job as a mom as our own moms did but your story is a compelling one Buck you want to dive right back in here yeah Sam I want to give you the opportunity uh to just tell everybody about your story a bit and and set the table before we dive right into the thick of your critical Senate race in Nevada swing state but um what do everyone what should everyone know about how you got to where you are today and why you're running for Senate yeah like I mean it started with parents that uh that loved this country and instilled that in me as a child and so um look I'm I'm of the generation I call I call us you know the post 911 uh generation I was a senior in high school when our country was attacked and um I had gone through the process applying to Military acmis and and before the end of 2001 I got accepted to West Point and reported there in July of' 02 and that kind of put me on the trajectory uh where I ended up um you know commissioning as an infantry officer serving in Afghanistan you know just the greatest um you know honor and privilege of my life was to be entrusted with you know those those men uh and on mission for this country and in 2008 another unit had been ambushed they needed support and we were the closest ones to it and you know I I still believe that when you've got Americans Under Fire or under threat the right response is to run to the sound of the guns and go provide that support and that's what we did and and unfortunately hit a roadside bomb in the process but um you know it uh it left one of my soldiers killed and four of us wounded but here here's the here's the thing I guess I want people to know in part why I'm here the greatest lesson I ever learned in my life didn't come from a from a former president didn't come from uh you know a Commanding General it came from one of my soldiers a young man from South Texas as I was burning there laying in the desert um and getting to the point where I knew I couldn't put the Flames out myself and I didn't know if anyone else was going to get to me um I was wrestling with the thoughts of how long is it going to take to burn to death what's the transition from this life to the next going to be like and I gave up the will to live and in that next moment I heard the voice of one of my soldiers and he screamed out sir I've got you and it gave me a little spark of hope but his words weren't enough if he just stood away in safety and screamed out I've got you and didn't bring himself to me through the fire um and and begin to put out the Flames then I would have died but he did come to me it was his actions that actually saved my life and um look I I've detailed that story and kind of the rest of my life in this book that I just released last week on the 16th anniversary of my live day it's called the live day anyone can get it on Amazon um but that that moment has propelled me to where I'm at today and I believe that America is hurting there's a lot of people that are in that moment of crisis in their life and we've got people who will just call out like you know I've got you but won't do anything about it my book is about it's not a political book it's about giving people hope who are desperate to just survive and um in my book is sharing that story that message and me running for the Senate is me following through on doing more than just talking but taking action we're talking to Captain Sam Brown and that story you just told us is incredibly compelling and and I want to go back to it for a moment you said in that moment you were thinking how long does it take to burn to death I I can't even even imagine what a feeling like that would be but as you are now running to for the Senate I would imagine that whatever can be said about you when you have stared down death as you did it can't really come close to to to really kind of getting to you what do you think that moment has meant for your ability to serve Nevada and still continue to serve your country I guess that connection to me is really compelling take us into that worldview if you could AB absolutely so so when you're when you're teetering at that moment and I literally I gave up the will to live because that's what going to be relief from what I was at and um and so to survive uh you know this kind of this uh miraculous way I've never lacked conviction that my life was spared for a reason and so you know this was this was kind of my my point of really finding faith in God and and that has that that went from being kind of a just a head knowledge I call it you know acknowledging sort you know historical facts to becoming something that I really truly believe in my heart and but I believe that's true for everyone that we're all here for a purpose and a reason uh and and that that experience the three years that followed I mean my recovery took three years I was in and out of the hospital over 30 surgeries um it was grueling and that was just the beginning of the rest of my life um but that it stealed me it hardened me for just such a time as this and we all have the option in life are we going to engage are we going to use the talents we have or the endurance we've built for a for a higher person purpose um and and having come through that I never lack conviction and if anything um the you know the the circumstances that we find ourselves in just gives me additional conviction and helps me dig in um even more and uh in my pursuit of trying to serve others who who frankly need a champion we're speaking to Captain Sam Brown who is running in Nevada telling us about his story uh his book is alive day uh Sam you are I mean it's it's an amazing story and and this audience you know in particular appreciates it a lot of uh current or former military and a lot of military families listening in um you're stepping into the arena you're in the arena right now uh running against an entrenched Democrat in Nevada it is always uphill going against a a Democrat I I wanted you to tell everybody how this race is shaping up so far and what the differences are between the leadership that you would bring to the United States Senate uh versus your opponent uh Jackie Rosen yeah so most of the listeners because they're you know politically attuned are going to be familiar with um the name Harry Reid and so you know Jackie Rosen is her start point is Harry Reid she was a protege of his and uh even though he's dead now you know his legacy still lives on and and he created um you know somewhat of a machine here that that brought her into the senate in 2018 she had served one term in the house starting in 2016 uh but she's really been absent from the state and as you can imagine someone who didn't have to um really work hard and and create her own path to representing the people of Nevada um she's she's just well conditioned to follow leadership uh whether it's Chuck Schumer or Joe Biden and KLA Harris she has been just a a follower along the way now the the impact that it's had here in the state is we've got the second highest unemployment uh rate in the nation we've got the second highest energy costs in the nation and people have been really economically hurt by this um she also sits on the homeland security committee a a committee and a position where she ought to be able to push back uh bring accountability provide oversight On the Border crisis And yet when President Trump was still in office she she tried to slow roll and push back on on his initiatives and under you know Camala Harris as the borders are and Joe Biden's uh leadership she's done nothing to bring accountability there um my my offer to the folks is is quite the opposite we we do need someone who understands the hardships of of these economic policies look here's an interesting contrast six years ago uh while she was running for Senate uh as a congresswoman I was working in an Amazon warehouse I know what it's like to work hard you know a 10-hour shift um to be able to afford just just enough uh today you know I'm I'm a successful businessman i' had started a business over these last six years um but you know things are still tight for my family just like a lot of nevadans I bring that perspective and and that's what we need as someone who understands the impact of the policies and can lead on them we're talking to Captain Sam Brown you're going to be with President Trump later today in Nevada which is a Battleground state for people out there that are listening to us right now we know the senate race in 2022 came down to a Razor's Edge I would imagine that you're polling and your data shows that the whole state of Nevada is going to come down to a couple of thousand votes one way or the other in in all sincerity how can people help you what do you see on the ground and what are you expecting with this rally that Trump is going to have with you later uh this afternoon this evening yeah PE people are hungry for leadership and you're right um uh just two years ago it was a closest Senate race in the nation it was a Razor's Edge we're seeing Poland kind of shaping up like that again um but we've got we've got additional things in our favor one of the reasons that race was lost last cycle is we had Republicans not turning out um there was over 100,000 Republicans that just didn't come out to vote and so we've got to get um everyone committed to voting um and and you know being involved to the extent they can people can go to Captain Sam brown.com to contribute from Across the Nation but if you live in Nevada or you know people in Nevada at the end of the day it's not who raises the most money that wins it's who has the most votes that wins and our polling is showing that it's very close uh but we're we're pushing into um into you know groups as Independents who haven't traditionally voted for Republicans um and Republicans haven't really pursued uh but I believe that U you know sort of a business philosophy anyone can be a customer um any voter can any any registered voter out there could vote for me um I need to go make the case we've been doing that and we've seen the poll really tighten up and we're we're right within the margin of eror now outstanding stuff Captain Sam Brown if we were in Nevada we'd be voting for you we know your mom is thank her for listening but we would
