What impact will Trevis Gipson have in Jacksonville?

but Trevis Gibson I think is going to play a critical role on this Jaguars team this upcoming season I'm not saying he's going to take snaps away from Josh Allen and Trayvon Walker by any means but I think if there's an injury to either of those guys and certainly knock on wood that there's not going to be or if either of them needs a a breather Trevis Gibson now reunited with one of his coaches in Chicago Bill shuy and John Shipley did a great article on Trevis over the weekend so be sure and find that at si.com and the fact that he I think is going to be inspired to play with some of the guys here versus when he was with Tennessee I don't know that there were anyone I don't know if there was anyone in Tennessee that inspires you to be no offense to Ard and key right well especially when you only play Eight Games because he was only active for eight games a season ago in Tennesse no one believed in him and but speaking of Ard and key Lauren that's why I agree with you and I think maybe maybe it's not a splash free agent signing but I think Trevis becomes your ardan key of 2022 in 2024 ardan key only got you four and a half sacks his one year in Jacksonville and was able to cash in on the other side of it with the Titans Travis Gibson has had a seven sack season and a three sack season before his one-year stint in Tennessee which obviously you know did not go as planned and that was in a rotational role getting seven sacks in Chicago his second year in the league and then three sacks the next year and in that next year in 2022 he wasn't even in the the right scheme fit for him and he was still able to find a way to three sacks which is more than well um cbon Chason had in three years here in his first three seasons in Jacksonville and so yes significant upgrade over that number four Edge rusher position that caleban Chason has filled the better part of the last four years and even Dewan smoo who of course unfairly will be judged because of coming off of the Achilles not being activated until week five last season smoo on one leg plus whatever chasam was doing I think Travis Gibson as a whole to mention whatever miles Cole can offer you significant upgrade in the room and especially if you're still clamoring for do the Jaguars Ed add to the edge depth I think at the very least on paper this is a significant upgrade upgrade I love Travis Gibson I've said that on here before and the interesting thing going back to 2021 when he was he you know obviously new to the Bears they had just drafted them fifth rounder the Bears defense at that time was kind of on the uh on the way out like a lot of the guys were getting older there were some injuries coming along um they were kind of in that point of the the down part of what had been a pretty solid defense the last the few seasons before that but it still had CLE Mack you still had a Keem Hicks Robert Quinn had a career year that year 18 and a half sacks and so there was a lot to help him that season because there were so much but one of the things that really popped out to me was because in the beginning of the Season he did there was some there were banged up a little bit so he had a decent amount of snaps snaps in the beginning of the Season you almost immediately saw a production out of him he wasn't quite getting to the quarterback but you were like he's there there's something with Travis gimson at the end of the year they were all banged up and it just was kind of a hot mess and he really had to take a bigger on a bigger role at that point and in the last I think five games he had five or six sacks in his last five games and of the seven that he had that season and that's when he started when he was on the field more so going into the 2022 season Bears fans were super excited about Trevis Gibson because obviously you just ended the season the way that you had and you saw when he was on the field it just looked different it looked like they were adding pressure more and they were those QB hurries were adding up and the they were forcing the quarterbacks to kind of make decisions they didn't want to and then like Mia pointed to they changed scheme though so he moved to like a true defensive end rather than an outside linebacker and uh it kind of shifted things around in addition Iber Flo came brought in aladim Muhammad who was his guy so Travis was n getting wasn't getting many snaps at all that year and I I went back and I listened to the podcast I did on him uh for making monsters and the whole time I was just like we need to play Travis more I don't understand why we're not paying Travis more now looking back it the scheme was probably the bigger thing of why ebra flu wasn't but it's still that shows how frustrated I was and how much more I wanted him on the football field because he does make such an impact in addition to that he really was really good against the run too and that was like one of the underrated things that I I think people didn't talk talk about a ton and it's something that this staff values greatly yes the ability to stop the run something The Scouting Department I mean look at I.E trayon Walker part of why he was the selection over Aiden Hutchinson and it's why Yan probably would not come back here correct and those things add value it's not something that you talk about a ton because everybody wants the sacks and wants the flashy plays but being able to be one of those guys where people avoid that side of the field is important and I truly saw that in in moments in Chicago when Travis was there so I think and that's why it points back to my my uh AR not argument my statement the other day about how confident I am on the defensive line and how good I think they can be with Devon Hamilton being healthy and with Eric Armstead Edition those two I think helped so much with the outside guys and then now it does take pressure off of Trayvon and Josh Allen because I do think he could be a key piece and I'm not saying he's going to have 10 11 12 sacks but I do think we could see easily five six seven sacks what I also love is that Gibson is frustrated with his time in Tennessee oh yeah so the Titans right so you've got then the extra motivation for Trevis to get after will Levis which Bring It On yeah I I think that another important note to make is again going back to how this quote unquote pass rusher Edge rusher room is stacked I think it's important to note especially for those of you who are still clamoring for is there a guy out there on the street that the Jaguars could sign to fortify that room so many people who said why is Bud depri Not getting called down I75 from Georgia to reunite with Ryan neelen I think it's important to note that in Ryan neel's tenure as a defense coordinator both with the Falcons and with the Saints the idea of interior defensive lineman also having the ability and the flexibility to play on the edge to create depth at the edge position is a staple of his defense I believe you will not only see Trayvon Walker and Josh Allen rotating inside I believe you will see Roy Robertson Harris go to the edge which is part of where he you know that's where he made his bread and butter early on in his NFL career with ironically the Chicago Bears Eric Armstead has a history playing on the edge even if that's not his n natural starting position per se Mason Smith lined up at a wide nine at times his freshman season at LSU and finally and I understand he's the biggest project of the crew but miles Cole spoke with a three-point stance or standing up although they have him really in a three-point stance right now and so right then and there I just listed four additional players for quote unquote depth at the edge rusher outside linebacker def defensive end position that a year ago didn't exist because last year and yes the scheme was part of it but it was so much it's Josh it's Trayvon they play on the
