[Music] one of the things I thought was interesting in the locker room yesterday Nick Bosa said that he thinks the 49ers defensive line is improved and you know what I I was thinking about it Chase and I'm like well I kind of agree I kind of agree that the defensive lines improved now other people who want to kind of spin their own narrative are you know hey the 49ers lost Eric Armstead but did they really lose Eric Armstead or did they decide did they move on from Eric Armstead to younger healthier cheaper options so I don't look at it as they lost Eric Armstead I look at it as they moved on from Eric Armstead and to me Collins and you know Floyd on the starting group and then Elliott behind I think you added three pretty decent players up front what do you think do you agree with Bosa that the ners D line is improved it seems to be a largely debatable uh opinion so I think their front four is better and I know that the Niners moved off of Eric Armstead who was a team captain up for the Walter Payton man of the year he's a Sacramento guy and he was beloved in the Bay Area and he had his moments where he was a terrific and dominant player and when the games mattered most in the NFL playoffs he played some of his best football when he was a San Francisco 49er the issue though the last two years he's been banged up a lot and the production has been down so when you actually look at the numbers Malik Collins is about $10 million cheaper than Eric Armstead this year so the Niners were able to save money and he's actually been more productive more available and the healthier player so he was actually more impactful and he has some scheme familiarity here because he played under demo Brian's last year and we saw in a small sample size what he's capable of doing I think he could be one of the X factors for this team this year against the Raiders he took on two blockers threw them to the side with force and then was able to make a tackle in the Run game and he didn't grade out necessarily high as a run Defender last year but he's a different Prototype at defensive tackle than Eric Armstead and I think he's going to be a better player this year than Eric Armstead at a cheaper rate so you add him to defensive tackle I think that jvon Hargrave is just due for a bounceback year and he had a bad year last year after signing that four-year $84 million contract but still had seven sacks I think that Leonard Floyd is a clear upgrade over Chase young more Bend more twitch more speed better pass rusher more consistent player you're going to get more of a consistent effort he has nine plus sacks in each of the last four years there are only like four or five other players in the NFL who have been able to do that and we're talking about the miles Garretts of the world and he's played in more than a hundred straight games when you include the regular season in the playoffs so this is the best Edge rusher that Nick Bosa has had opposite of him since D Ford was healthy and so the front four I like it starting wise Nick bosam malate Collins Javon hardgrave and Leonard Floyd you look at some of the backups Rob Bert Beal is completely unproven Kevin given is kind of a traditional rotational backup defensive tackle who is always gonna kind of be a fringe roster type Jordan Elliott did perform well against the run I like the depth upgrade there you have your turr Matos as well and we'll see if he can play against the Jets on Monday but he gives you that Ardon key Charles a manyu NASCAR package type of role where he can play Edge and defensive tackle so I think the front four is better but some of the depth is highly unproven and the Niners simply just do not have a lot of depth along the defensive line but starting wise maybe we see a little bit of a philosophical shift uh a lot of teams like to rotate their defensive linemen in and out of the lineup to keep them fresh later in the year I'm not sure the ners are going to have that luxury so if their front four can stay healthy I think they're a more productive unit than last year because you upgrade from Armstead to Collins let's say hardgrave has a bounceback year Floyd is better than Chase young and I think that Nick Bosa gets back to that 2022 form as compared to last year when he was slow out of the gate due to that hold out you know Bosa said I really like the new guys I think we've improved I think Leonard Floyd brings something to our defense that we haven't had a guy who can make plays all over the field and he doesn't get tired uh it almost sounds like a slap at somebody having a guy like that who's super long and athletic and can rush I think this scheme is going to bring out the best of him I'm excited um I I look at it this way I mean essentially it wasn't a trade but it almost was I mean the 49ers you know said goodbye to four defensive linemen and added four defensive linemen If This Were a trade would you make this trade would you trade Eric Armstead Javon kinlaw Randy Gregory and Chase young for Malik Collins um youer gross M Leonard Floyd and Jordan Elliott I would yeah I probably would yeah I probably would and here's the thing too the Niners got Malik Collins for a seventh round pick and they were able to shed $10 million of the Eric Armstead contract so I think in totality it was a smart organizational move and a smart football move yeah no no no question about it um okay I want to I want to show you you saw this probably but I want to put the share the screen and show the one of the subplots of this game is that Leonard Floyd got death threats from Jets fans and I asked him about it and here he is in the locker room and you know he he downplayed it at first um good guy here's a minute with Leonard Floyd listen to this you sacked wait wait here we go make make sure I've got this there we go okay uh where is it where is it there we go okay here we go uh Leonard Floyd from day or so day or so ago inside the locker room you sacked A-Rod and he got hurt and the Jets fans went crazy on you and they're giving you death threats is that is that actually happen did that actually happen uh yeah I I mean it was a lot of threats but I'm trying not to talk too much into it because it was last year you know this year is a new year I just plan to come out and do my job and help our team win yeah that's that's my goal any extra motivation though because of that because of that reaction the fans gave you it's extra motivation period it's it's opportunity to go out there and verus p and get out the quarterback so this an extra opportunity man and I'm taking that moment and running with it yeah can't wait for Monday night I can't wait to watch this guy this is probably the guy that I'm most excited about as far as newcomers um I do think this is the best Edge rusher they've had since really in this era um opposite Bosa because I think he's better than what D Ford uh was when he was a n but um you know to me that's interesting I mean Floyd didn't want to get into it there but I mean he sacked Rogers they thought they were going to the Super Bowl their Jets fans they're delusional they issued death threats at this guy uh he he's trying to downplay it but man he's fired up I expect him to go off Monday night here's the thing too there was nothing dirty about that play Aaron Rogers playing on the worst surface in the National Football League and the Niners have been very vocal about this at met Life Stadium got tackled and he had the weight of another player on top of him and his Achilles just gave out it's not like Leonard Floyd Dove to his knee to try to hurt him or tear his ACL he tore his Achilles because that surface stinks and it just gave out for a quarterback who's 40 years old so I think it's ridiculous that anybody would send Leonard Floyd a death threat but look as we know the word fan stands for fanatic and I think Jets fans even though they won that game in week one knew that their season was going down the drain just because of terrible quarterback play with Zach Wilson and their hopes went dormant once again because Aaron Rogers was out uh the game because keep in mind that not everybody has peacock or can afford it not not everybody has these streaming services and then sometimes these games regionally aren't available for people in America or if they're International viewers so we kind of serve as like the go-to spot for free for people to tap in so that's kind of what we bring to the table in General on the channel if you're not familiar well very cool and uh chat sports give them a follow and of course why am I promoting them they're already have over a 100,000 Subs but you guys are doing great work and that's why you have all the subs that you have um as far as the 49ers question mark going into this game How concerned are you with the ners offensive Line's ability to block this front this is you know Javon kinlaw going over to you know um who's put on 30 pounds they say um and then you got Quinn and Williams we know kinlaw's not a rusher he's just a run Defender but he's a he'll clog the middle they got a great spe great spring out of Leonard Taylor the rookie from Miami they can even though they don't have uh uh they you know they don't have reic they still have Michael Clemens Germaine Johnson Will McDonald Tac McKinley Braden McGregor I mean they got dudes for sure they got s and Reed on the back end um I think Chuck T chakar might be a guy that that Shanahan might go after but how do you see the match match up of the Niner offense and this Jets D we um Gardner does not travel so you know auk can you know he they can move auk around and get him matched up on Reed if they so choose yeah so I'm obviously worried about Colton mckivitz at right tackle he gave up 47 pressures last year and I just don't know if he's a starting caliber right tackle for a team that has Super Bowl aspirations I know that the Niners team building philosophy is to pay players who score touchdowns the ners have talked about that Chris forer has talked about that but he's a leaky valve there at right tackle I do think that Dominic puny who looks to be the real deal can really help him out on that right side but Jake brindle is kind of an average Center as well Aaron Banks has had his up and down so the matchup between the Niners offensive line which is a weakness outside of Trent Williams and the Jets defensive line which is a strength is a big storyline in this game quinnn and Williams is so difficult to stop we saw Javon kinla finally turn the corner and now he gets to play Under Robert Salah where if he can stay healthy I think that he can end up having a really good year on a one-year contract it looks as though hopefully those knee issues are past him but this is a great matchup between this Niners offense just in general and this Jets defense the Niners are the number one overall offense in the NFL last year Robert Salin knows how Kyle Shanahan approaches the game of football how he thinks about the game of offensive football and the Jets were number one in yards per play given up at 4.6 last year and the Niners struggled against top defenses and really good defensive coordinators a year ago the Cleveland Browns led by Jim Schwarz the Minnesota Vikings led by Brian Flores the Cincinnati Bengals led by Lou anarumo I probably butchered his name the Baltimore Ravens uh the Baltimore Ravens with Mike McDonald and then Steve spagnolo and the Kansas City Chiefs so those Elite defense were kind of the ners offensive cryptonite last year and now you start week one you're kind of patching things together right Brandon iuk just joined the team earlier this week for his first official practice hopefully Trent Williams is going to be able to play I loved your reporting that auk looked winded Trent Williams looked winded look there's nothing that can replicate training camp practices 11 on 11s game Speed game physicality so hopefully they're going to be able to get up the speed but also they're probably not going to be 100% so really good matchup and then Brandon auk he wanted to get paid he got $30 million per year $76 million in guaranteed money now it's time to prove it against one of the upper echelon Corners in the game in s Gardner who last year had an overall PFF grade of 88.6 a coverage grade of 90.8 only gave up 8.7 yards per catch and a passer rating allowed of 76 and a half and one more thing Jets linebacker are really good Quincy Williams and CJ Mosley a lot of people have allowed them to fall under the radar but outside of Dr Green law and Fred Warner last year that was one of the best linebacking Duos in the NFL we're GNA find out how uh improved the nin or0 line is their pass protection was a major weakness last year they ranked 24th in the NFL but they bring in Dominic Poney he plugs and plays at Right Guard and um I love the kid he's a tremendous kid I love talking to him great personality great athlete I mean he's really you should see the guy shoot the basketball in the in the uh in their hoop in the in the room he's pretty good athlete um I mentioned to him I'm like hey man don't ever challenge Trent to a game of horse because he'll sit from 25 feet away and just drain thre he's like really I'm like yeah really and Joan Jennings as well Jan Jennings can shoot the hell out of the basketball um reck you know I asked um Bob was shoing about reick you know Robert Salo won't even call him out for the game and yet he hasn't shown up all summer no chance that Assan reck's playing Monday night right I I would be shocked if he plays I just don't Envision a scenario in which he can play just coming in cold off an offseason in which he didn't attend anything and you expect him to play week one against the Niners I just don't see how that's possible I don't either what do you what do you think of the trade-off the Eagles got Bryce Huff the Jets got Hanan reic but then didn't don't have reck how much is the loss of puff what's he looked like this summer he he I think he led the Jeffs Jets last year in total pressures so it's not like they're just losing a guy they're losing a significant piece yeah he had 47 pressures I believe and 10 sacks and he played less than 50% of the snaps so he was the Jets best Edge rusher last year and a pretty good developmental story for that organization because he was actually a udfa at of Memphis and then he got $17 million per year from the Eagles it's interesting because Vic fangio kind of has him playing a newer position he's never been highly graded against the run but he made some strides there they're going to ask him and the other Edge rushers to drop back in coverage and he actually played deep into the second preseason game for a player who got paid a lot made a really good tackle on a quick hitting pass to the perimeter on a wide receiver screen he was able to make that play made some good plays against the run and he's still a really young player who I think is best footballs to come and the Niners or the Eagles excuse me sign him away from the Jets they trade Hassan reic to the Jets and they get a third round pick and reic hasn't reported yet and that third could become a two so I think the Eagles kind of fleece New York and that's nothing new because the Jets are kind of a joke [Music]
