Sudoku solution – New York Times 15 September 2024 Hard level

[Music] hello fellow sedans welcome to Zen and the Art of the Guardian sodoku puzzle it's uh Sunday the 15th of September 2024 I hope you are keeping well almost forgot the date there uh hope you are keeping well enjoying your weekend uh as best you possibly can I'm enjoying my weekend I'm heading out off for a lunch date a bit later so I should be playing this game nice and early in fact it's only just been published The New York Times uh uh hard level sadoku puzzle um what's going on in the world I see there has been a train crash in Egypt in a place uh that I'd never heard of called zaga Zig sounds like it ought to be a football chant or something but anyway it was serious plane uh train crash uh and apparently three people have died including two children and 40 have been injured that's bad news sad news from um Egypt uh and uh we always like to think of train Travelers being pretty safe but uh you know accidents can and do happen I guess from time to time like planes as well all right uh let's get on with the game of sodoku shall we um I'll say get on with it but I actually don't have any numbers to give you just yet no doubt one will be on it it way soon I'll deliver a number to you as soon as it's delivered to me excuse me coughing not into the microphone you won't be catching anything off of me okay we've got four blocking across here and there and a four going up there so we will get ourselves four in that square there we have five blocking across here and down there so there's a five okay slow start for me let's see what's going on we've got ones in those squares we've got ones there we've got ones there we've got ones here uh ones there unfortunately I'm being let down here too many places for the ones are over here unfortunately what do we know about the twos they can go in there threes are down here with the fives okay okay our first New York time style pair three and five so this is a pair of three and five down here so now when the two blocks down here and across and across there that's going to position a two in that square there three and five are here I already said ones are in those squares there uh 1 2 3 four five so we're looking for 6 8 n then uh so we've got a pair of nines there eights are there six is oh okay six okay this is a pair of six and one then I just said because I had the ones if you remember one looks like this right blocking up like this okay across here across here so one has to be in one of those squares now we got the six blocking down here we know this is three and five so this is a pair of one and six and this is three and five uh so this is to be eight and nine so nine across there will give us nine there and eight there I see we have two and eight somewhere there I think we're missing 1 3 five and six across this row aren't we we've got 1 35 together so that's going to be our six there um I was going to go through bit by bit and I stopped now for for h m for uh so I think I've got a pair of six and two I've got six and two blocking up here this was one and six wasn't it so six in this Square now and two up here blocking up here and six and two across there so indeed I have got a pair of six and two in those squares there six and two um I already know that the ones are in those squares fours are like this sevens have to be here what about eight eight blocking like this so eight possibly in those squares uh I think this could be an eight because nine is in those I think this could be a single eight um oh no I said one also didn't I one On's are in those squares it's so eight sorry maybe I should just this I know this is one and six so and what's left uh 789 right ah okay so we've got one I should have done this before one and six in those squares so we're left with 7 8 n here and we've got seven and eight together so in fact that is going to be our nine now we have nine blocking up here and nine blocking across there that puts nine into one of those squares blocking up nine across there there goes a nine nine across this way this way and up here will give me a nine in that square for oh we've got five and six blocking across here now excuse me so that's a pair of five and six meaning this has to be four and something so the four blocking up there there's the four what's the something which is not five or six three that's what it is and so now this is one and eight so we got the eight blocking up here here's the eight there's the one and now one down here or one across there will give me one in that square eight blocking up here puts eight into this square and gives me seven there seven blocking up here and up there means that's a seven H we already know this was something I worked out before and then have now forgotten oh it doesn't matter I've only got one digit missing here I just can look at it like that it's a four isn't it what was this two and six okay um for e don't have any completed digits just yet we have six blocking this square and this Square low just going to put six there and we have six across here across here and down there I was actually doing digit five but I just saw that so let's come back and have another look no we got one blocking this Square here so there's our one and now we know five goes in that square there one down one across here and one across there still still don't have any completed digits uh we have 28 and n blocking down here so we have 28 and N in these squares here I don't know which is which because 28 n are in different rows but we've got 2 eight and N here so we know that this is not two eight or nine so it's got to be three and seven so seven across there gives us seven there and puts three into that square there still no completed digits this is really uh a cliffhanger here trying to build suspense for the soku Channel for there we go s across this way and down there two blocks but um both of these squares in this column so that gives me a two up there last digits to get down here are four and eight I think so eight blocking across there will give me the eight there and this will be a four now four across here and four down there means that's a four this is going to be 5 six obviously we got these five sixes up there still that we have haven't done yet uh four blocking up here and four across there this could finish the four yes thank goodness we've got at least one number out of the way and now we've got one blocking across there that'll give us one there one down here and one across here puts one into that square one across here one down there gives me the one there I know this is a six two blocks across here that gives me two in that square there this will be six I think six across there ah there we go six there five there five there five across here for the five in this Square this will be a three no forget that seven no no uh five is what we need five across there five up there there's a five this would be eight eight down here and eight across there there's our eight eight this way eight that way there's our eight the missing digit here two I think and one of missing digits here are three so three blocking up that will give us a three there and the last number to place here is a nine nine blocks of cross here giving me the nine there and the last number here too I think okay what's left to be done three blocking across here that gives me the three there this will be seven seven back this way and this way means that's a seven we could just look and see which number is missing right three is missing there six is missing there from those
